In accordance with staff requests, I placed orders for both volumes, which came to a whopping $36(not complaining). as far as my train of thought regarding the series stoppage, I feel that if the franchise continued to make the story readily available to people, there would be A: a bigger voice for it's return, B: a larger fan base, C: more of a desire for merchandise. Like you said Kanji, it's only a five dollar book. Well, It WOULD help me... I just don't think it helps the Guyver franchise. Now the merchandise sales generated from highly distributed pop material? That's a different story. but maybe the fans should do more distributing of the translations to get MORE fans, instead of making them as difficult to get Ahold of as they are. Just my way of seeing this. And I'm only responding to things replied to me here, apologies to any topic damage that may occur forthwith. As there are currently 3 that the Advocacy has (30, 31 and 32). I think Guyvers problem itself isn't exposure, but Takaya himself. Erratic releases, and content that does not currently fit the wants of current times. If they re-boooted Guyver as a cute anime schoolgirl series, or a harem series, then its popularity would certainly rise... But other than that, it is long past its prime. I mean, WE like it, but new people starting off with the series will get turned off but the low quality and old art, and never get into the plot enough to enjoy it ( which is why I now recommend watching the 2005 TV series first. It at least is more modern and can be substituted for a lot of the early stuff). As for bringing in new fans, there is 29 volumes readily available online... But even so, with the erratic releases, Guyver will never be at the top of major manga sites because you need consistent releasing to even get on new release lists for people to find it. In short: Guyver is an old as hell series with a story framework that is also old as hell, and doesn't fit with the current popular trends ( ie boy with powers is still popular... but there is usually a harem attached to those kinds of series now... And Shonen ACE is full of).

Personally I think with the reemergence of old series like Dragon ball with its super, Gundam with too many to name, Devil man with the upcoming Netflix anime, etc. Etc. The timing couldn't be better to revamp the manga as a whole. English releases of everything up to date would do wonders I'm willing to bet. Or even jumping into the world of games, that would do at least SOMETHING to popularize the damn thing.
river_chaos
I feel as if Takaya sees the series as more of a hobby that has gained a following and doesn't want to put any more effort into aside from what's available in Japan. Don't get me wrong: I like the fact that he's taking the time to figure out where he's taking the story and being involved with the statue development (seriously, the time taken to design and then run several prototypes of said statues are ridiculous but worth it), BUT he's not making a living off of Guyver. With how many hiatuses he's gone on from the series, there's no way he's paying bills with this! Not even with the merchandise to go with it! I'm starting to think that he doesn't want anyone else to come in and attract attention to it from outside of his home country.
IHateToPryver
I think there might be some truth to this... As sad as that is...
Guyver0
So...In short we're just gonna have to accept things for what it is and hope that Takaya finishes the manga before he passes(hopefully far down the road) and then maybe just maybe he'll be more lenient with people making other creative adaptations with Guyver and have someone turn it into a harem action anime series like High School DxD? Am I reading this right or is this the implied message that everyone else is getting?
river_chaos
No, I'm saying he might never be lenient at all with Guyver. He's had a lot of say in the 2005 anime adaption and some in the live action movies. If any of the interviews are to go by for both projects: he's not easy to talk/work with. He didn't even get an assistant until recently! All I'm saying is that this is more of a hobby to him than something he's fully committed to and doesn't want to put much more effort into it being a franchise, let alone draw in an international audience.
Gazham
It is definitely possible. With him being so tight lipped about things, we may never know!

He more than likely does other things on the side to pay his bills and whatnot but there's no way of really finding out what he does since he's so private. Yoshiki Takaya is not even his real name so who knows what he does under his actual name? It's all a mystery really...

People are highly stingy with the scanlations of the latest volumes. Berserk has been running almost as long as The Guyver, and just as irregularly but the scanlators don't hide it behind a paywall. That said, at least Berserk has an official English distributor so overseas fans can properly support the franchise.

It makes no difference to anything in terms of what is happening with Japan and Takaya. Bio-Boosted Dude
As the topic recently turned into a "Yoshiki Takaya status" discussion (and since I didn't feel like it deserved its own topic), Takaya has been visited by Steve Wang: And This group shot implies something is in the works

Matt Bellamy
I know I am in the minority, but I just want the manga finished. To hell with the current live action movies and merchandise. To hell with new figures and statues of the anime/manga. To hell with any new live action project or special projects. FINISH THE SOURCE MATERIAL FIRST. There is no point in doing new projects based on the story, if that story is never going to finish... And considering his output, that may never happen at this rate. To me, these pictures only prove that he is alive. So he can start working on the manga. *edit* ...even created an instagram account to say that... but nicer...
Guyver0
Matt I do agree that the source material needs to be finished first and foremost. However, I can't but help to get my hopes up on something as possible as a new movie. ...Future heartbreak here I come
Super Existence
Steve Wang has been making his own statues for a while now for companies like Cinemaquette, I'd guess this is probably another statue release and not a new film production if it means anything at all. Sully
the important thing is at least they are working on something. My worry is that Takaya is a little burned out (hence the slow pace) of Guyver and is simply taking a break. Hopefully this meeting is doing something interesting for us fans (but yep like Matt though I really want to see more comic than anything else!). TricoBren
I sure hope he starts "working" on his manga. That would be nice. I'm tired of saying the same thing so I won't repeat myself. Besides, Matt said exactly what I was thinking anyway...

If his releases were more frequent I would have no problem... But as someone who has been reading and watching since about 1997 (geez, 20 years), and it's still not done? Yeah. There is only one thing I need. An ENDING.

TricoBren
Guys, this will probably come as a major surprise but, it doesn't look like there's a chapter this month either. (There's no mention of it on the cover anyway) Guess we'll have to wait for Takaya to stop jerking off Wang before another chapter is done then...
