this might have been better in the philosophy bit, but i don't want it to get too high brow. just general natter. so what is a community? once upon a time, I thought a community was any group of people who were talking about the same subject in the same general area. but I don't think this is altogether true. upon spending a little bit of time in another place recently, I started to realise that you can't have a community based on people alone. there needs to be a draw. people visit various places for various reasons that are personal to them. so if I am part of a community in real life, it is because i live in a certain area and frequent the same landmarks.…

Hey guys, most of you already know I am dyslexic. I have trouble with writing essays and stuff like that. I want to apply for the JET programme this year but I don't have any support with writing. I was wondering if you could help me a little? as you are probably well aware, I have no issues writing forum posts. I can write fine when I am writing as though I am talking to somebody. so if you can perhaps help me to write my personal statement, by talking with me about it, I think that would be a great way to get it done. cheers p.s. here is the guidelines for the personal statement that i need to satisfy. http://www.jet-uk.org/application/apppersta.html

hey all, I have been working on my personal website for promoting my abilities in design etc. I'd like to get some feedback please. I'm looking for real honesty. of course I don't want you to insult me, but if the only way of saying something is very blunt, then by all means say it. I want to make it the best that I can. thanks. http://www.tremault.tk

as the title says, what web communities or forms of social media do you spend most time on, or do you spend your online time browsing for information or perhaps you spend most time watching vids or something else? and is there any particular reason you prefer it? I spend some times on twitter, often talking with a friend, a japanese guyver fan. I try to watch some youtube vid of japan if I can. I follow facebook and talk to some guys from here that are my facebook friend. I visit other online community to talk about this and that. I'd probably spend more time here but it seems to be vacant a lot these days.

I really found this article hilarious about a man biting a snake out of revenge. Man Bites Snake to Death in Revenge A Nepali man who was bitten by a cobra snake subsequently bit the snake to death, a local newspaper reported on Thursday (Aug. 23). After being bitten by the snake, while he was working in his rice paddy on Tuesday, 55-year-old Mohamed Salmo Miya chased the snake, caught it and bit it until it died, the Annapurna Postreported, according to Reuters. "I could have killed it with a stick but bit it with my teeth instead because I was angry," Miya was quoted as saying. Miya, who lives in a village some 125 miles (200 kilometers) southeast of th…

Thoughts, comments, etc.? I'm not going to spoil the events of the movie or anything like that -- I will, however, say that Christopher Nolan did a remarkable job when it comes to bringing the entire trilogy to life, and TDKR definitely lives up to its billing. Tom Hardy was very good as Bane (far better than the imbecile cretin we saw in "Batman and Robin"), Anne Hathaway did pretty good as Selina Kyle... the entire ensemble cast did an outstanding job. ...I make no promises about wanting to see something like the Tumbler and the Bat in the fan-fiction, though.

english is a very awkward language. every week when i teach english, we have various exercises going over different grammar, verb inflections and all that. most native english speakers do not realise how tricky it can be. it's when your mind is working with a different language, that is when it becomes apparent how contrary english actually is. a lot of people who may have english as their second language, are very self conscious about their ability. even though a lot of the time, their english is better than many native english speakers. an interesting fact for you here... I can not tell the difference between lend and borrow. it's not because i'm stupid or lazy…

So Odin brought up the idea of doing a podcast for our site. I think it's a great idea myself. So what I think is best, is if we can get a team of 3 guys. this way there is lower pressure on each guy. we can use skype to set up a three way conversation and can record it and put it to youtube or put it to a thread in mp3 format. or both. first port of call is getting some guys together who want to do this. after that, we can look at what we would be talking about. I think if we just pick a general topic, then we can see how it goes. we could end up talking about anything, from our perceptions of kamen rider or super sentai, to our ideas about where guyver is headed…

Who's seen it and what did you think? I saw it it with my wife and I thought it was fantastic! Warner Brothers really could learn something from Marvel. The "puny god" scene was hilarious! The Hulk was by far my favorite character in the movie. Mark Ruffalo has signed a six movie deal, so I would expect him in 3 Avenger's films and 3 Hulk films.

[Admin Note: Topic split off from What if... Part 4] Not so much with money. Without getting too deep into politics, people who has affected the world with their greed for more money and used that money to change how they got that money, are still remembered for what they did. ..Actually I will get into some politics. During the early 1990's the US Navy had this multi-billioniare program called the A-12. Screwups and more politics later the A-12 projected was dumped. But all that money that went into the R&D for that prgram sucked up all the money for the F-14D program. The US Navy wanted their entire fleet plus additional planes to be F-14D. Instead we ended up get…

Can't believe nobody has posted this here yet. Lion-O and the warriors from Thundera will be back on television next year in a new animated series set to air on Cartoon Network in 2011. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, the new "Thundercats" series will be the studio's first project to use anime-style animation, and promises to be a "21st century reimagining" of the classic '80s cartoon series. According to the studio, the new series will appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers to the universe of Lion-O and his Thunderan brethren. Calling it "a sweeping tale combining swords and science and boasting ferocious battles with the highest of stakes," the studio …

I know quite a number of people who aparently dont have, or cant remember having dreams. Personaly I dream every night, but forget most of them through out the day unless they are especialy vivid or distinctive. For me the theme is usualy based on something that has passed through my mind during the day, but I've not spent too much time thinking about. The most common elemelts used to be the building of my old bording school. That and a strange lack of people. I almost always feel like there is only small population. I guess it feels sort of like a film where you are only concentraited on a few characters and not much outside their world seems to exist. There have been a…

Just currious. Anyone here taking any form of martial arts? If so what kind and what rank? Ive got about five years of martial arts expirience in various styles and i was looking to see if anyone else had any and wanted to discuss some things. Also, if youve never done any but have comments id appriciate that too. Basically anything general on martial arts. Weapons styles work too, even if youve never had professional training in them. I have Bo staff and Japanese sword training, and im taking Sai and Nunchaku training now.

Captain America is one of my favorite characters and I'm getting really excited about the upcoming movie. It was already confirmed that Christ Evans will be taking the lead role of the famed Avenger. My question is, how will this affect the whole franchise of Marvel movies seeing that Evans already appeared as the Human Torch in the earlier Fantastic Four movie? I'm also somewhat skeptical about his performance since I percieved him as somewhat immature in his earlier roles. I was hoping that they would cast an unknown actor for the titular role. Also, good news is that they casted Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull. I respect Weavings acting skill and I'm looking forward to…

hi all. I think we need a new subsection for the "techie" stuff since no debate is involved here. Not to mention that we have no section dedicated to seeking help. Asking technical help from a debate section doesn't seem to be appropriate. Anyway, i'm really stumped. My pc is shot and i'm trying to fix it without having to replace everything, because its an old model (p4 dual core bought on 2007). I first tested the memory and it failed so i bought a new ram (1gb ddr2 667). It detects the ram now when it boots up, but it won't get past the boot screen. Cmos checksum fail appears so i changed the cmos battery. No effect. Removed all peripherals and still no good. I'm star…
