Scarlett Johansson as Major Kusanagi (Ghost in the Shell)
durendal replied to ./Anonymous's topic in Japanese Entertainment
As Neil Patrick Harris put it, it's about Hollywoods Best and Whitest...sorry....Brightest. I'm not sure if it is what they call "whitewashing", but to give credit, Scarlet Johansson does have experience playing a badass female lead and has shown proficiency in doing so. I just notice that there are not a lot of Asian in the lead roles in Hollywood. -
Thats good to know. I was shocked when Tyrion killed his father. I was waaay shocked. Didn't see that happening. Oh, prepare to be shocked more. That's how it is with GRRM, just because you are the leading protagonist doesn't mean your safe from dying. Heck, everyone thought that Ned Stark was the main protagonist, little did everyone know that his head will roll later in the first season. Literally. I remember reading a fan favorite character being stabbed to death at the last part of the novel. His fate remains unknown if he survived or not.

Don't wait for it, download it now on your smart phone. It's available via IOS and Android. More people downloading it means it will make it faster for them to start developing a console version.

Since they are re-animating Arslan, I do hope they finish the story this time. Or at least end on a satisfying part of the story. -
Final Fantasy Final Fantasy - The Final Fantasy Topics Thread

One name. Hironobu Sakaguchi. Since he left square, all the later final fantasy games failed to reach epic status. -
Here's an idea which i think would be unlikely. Perhaps "Al" was a residue of Alchanfel transforming into Apollon. Maybe he split himself up into 2 separate being to be able to achieve his goals. I mean, why would Apollon have abilities that far surpass the other Zoalords, in which only Alchanfel is capable of? Or maybe Apollon is being controlled by Alchanfel, that leaves him into an innocent state when he goes out hunting. I'm starting to doubt that Apollon is Imakarum. Imakarum had a difficult time with Gigantic Dark, whereas Apollon was able to easily dispatch of Gigantic Exceed. Although they weren't seriously fighting, Apollon seems to evade Exceed rather easily.

At this point, we still don't know, but I guess it is more likely since the Japanese seems to favor the Playstation over the Xbox. I'm kinda saddened that nobody seems to be interested in this game. Granted that most of you guys are hardcore gamers, I guess moving to a mobile game would seem like a downgrade from console playing. I guess games like these only appeal to people like me who doesn't have the luxury to sit down and play console games for hours. Ah, I miss those blissful days.

So who's playing this game. I've only recently started playing this game. Never expected to play it actually. What lured me to play this game, despite being unavailable in our region, is the fact that the makers of this game are the people responsible for making Final Fantasy iconic. With the likes of Hironobu Sakaguchi, Nobuo Uematsu, Yoshitaka Amano, etc. Also, they have this download starter, which they will release specific products, updates or items depending on the number of download. When it hits 2 million downloads, they are going to make a console game for this. Currently it sits at 1.7 million. 300K more. So start downloading this now.

This is no surprise. In prior season, they killed the wife which in the book was supposedly alive. The show was more gruesome, and a lot more merciless. From here on out, it might be entirely different from that of the books. In the trailers, I saw Tyrion walking alongside Denaerys, which I have never seen in the books. It's going to be interesting.

Uh... despite my loathing of the Saban Power Rangers, I kinda disagree with the fan film. If you notice, "Gritty" seems to be becoming a fad these days. I'm sure there are numerous people who see this fan film as how the movie should be done, but we are also forgetting the main audience of the franchise. The children. If you are a parent, would you want your children to watch a movie with a main protagonist cussing and acting violent? I wouldn't. I'm sure there is no harm in giving the franchise a pinch of "darkness", but this is just too much. And besides, for me, the core concept of the "Power Rangers" is not about the characters, but more of the robots. Since I didn't see any "Zords", this did not impress me.

Here's a funny fact. We have Japanese visitors and we call them Takashi-san even though we are speaking in English. Not only for this one guy, but all of our Japanese correspondents, be it business partners or consultants. I don't want to start anything, just throwing it out there since it's already out in the open. I guess it's more of a culture thing.

I would think that they would have learned their lesson in Dragon Ball. Oh wait, that movie never happened. -

I thought they continued the manga with Tokyo Ghoul:re? I never really did understand the manga. -
I will take your advise to heart. But with the current times, you really can't tell if or when you'll get stabbed in the back. You will only know a true friend if they are still with you in troubled times. A privileged which I am fortunate to have. Very well. We leave this topic as is. I'm sure some other members will have thier own opinion.

Well, in that sense, I agree with you. But I don't think Ryuki see's it as that. I think his considerations are leaned more towards supporting the author.

Oh, I think the merchandise was more than worth it. It was around the time when Kamen Rider Decade was airing. The prize was a Kamen Rider figure that transforms. People would love to get their hands on it. But I guess we just didn't have enough members to make an impact. I think there was also a time that we were giving away Guyver figures.
-
What? We're supposed to get paid? And here I was already grateful for Ryuki in giving me free peanuts for the translation work I do. You may have missed some of the things that happened in the previous years, but there was a contest way, way back, where they are giving away Kamen Rider Merchandise. But the results weren't encouraging so they had to stop.

Ah language. The method of communication of every community structured in the conventional way, yet distinctly unique to certain individuals. I will have to admit. English is not my native tongue, and yet, this is the language the I often mostly use. Of course how could I not learn of my native language. I'd rather not say from which particularly country, but to those who understand, sa atin atin nalang ito ha. But then, there is the language of my culture. And here is the most confusing part. There are three dialects which are known to me. Mandarin, which is the English equivalent of the Chinese. The Cantonese, which I dare compare to be the British standard of the Chinese, and then there is Fookien, the sort of "provincial dialect". So what is the difference between "Men Fat", "Wen Fa" and "Bun Huat" when all of these are written as "文法" Finally, the language that links the community with it's special allure that so many people want to learn. Japanese. ã“れã§ã„ã„ã®ã‹? Even with these six dialects, I am not content. I still strive to learn French, the language of love. Voulez-vous coucher avec moi? As well as Latin, a language nobody understands like the laws and scientific names it was named for. Exempli gratia, like the magic words from the pages of a Harry Potter book.

So..... it looks like a terminator does age with time.

Ah, now I remember that story line. Although I didn't bother reading it to the end. Captain America is a symbol, and should be standing up to what people believe as the ideal. As Kang mentioned, he is an idealogy that certainly has gone extinct. Which is quite sad actually, since no matter what the situation, people still need an ideal. I'm not happy with how the current writers are treating Cap. I think it's quite unfair how people see cap as a monkey in a colored suit, like how they depicted him in the first Avengers movie. But at least they made up for it in the Winter Soldier. Well, at least Steve Rogers is not a bad guy right now.

I don't know if anyone ever mentioned Full Metal Panic before, but it's one of the best Mecha anime that I've seen. Hopefully they animate the rest of the novels. I so want to see the ARX-8 Laevatein in it's full action filled glory. Demolition Howitzer FTW!!!!

Hopefully I don't sound as offensive as I thought I would be, so I'll apologize before hand. The one thing that I find laughable in the land of the free is that it is a place filled with hypocrisy. They say terms like "freedom of speech" and yet not everyone is free to say as they wish. Granted that there are a lot of a-holes, it is only a fraction of a price you have to pay for freedom. They say "equal opportunity", but that doesn't seem to happen very often. What I find most tiring is that a lot of people blame the "foreigners" for taking up their jobs, but in reality, these are the jobs that they themselves does not want to do. I'm sure our prejudiced friends here can relate to this.

Oh Japanese films? I've seen a fair share of them. One that comes to mind right now is Paradise Kiss. Although it was originally published as a manga, I did enjoy the movie. We have Screen Red Channel, which is part of HBO that shows mainly asian movies (Chinese, Korean and Japanese)

Not much of a Star Wars fan but did love the original trilogy. The prequels were only "meh" to me. I guess I'll be looking forward to this. Here's hoping they won't come up with another Jarjar binks this time. Do you think there's going to be another shocker reveal in this trilogy?

Frenemies? Well, I don't normally make enemies. Having good friends is a good thing. And having bad friends would help you stay sharp. You know what they say, with friends like that, who needs enemies? I use the term friends loosely, so what I perceive as friends may not be exactly the way that you perceive them.
