  1. Currently reading 'Unconditional Parenting' by Alfie Kohn. It's interesting, as it describes physical punishment and time outs and such to be almost equally the same in that they are a form of torture, and positive reinforcements such as praise and rewards a cheap bribe. He describes this as teaching children they are only loved under certain conditions, and not only causes psychological problems in later years, but are ineffective as we must continually reteach our children the same lessons over and over again. He cites decades of experiments and research, and gripes how so many parenting books are all variations on the same 'conditional' theme. I'm only half way through, he's just now describing a new method for teaching children. He's got my interest
  2. Now you have to add Zombies to the list. When I was young and researching the paranormal, there were a few different sources of the werewolf myth. -those that angered the gods through child sacrifice/cannibalism is another one to mention -kinship with the animal spirits Ways to tell a werewolf -cut open the skin, see if there is fur on the underside, as that is where it might go when in human form -check the palm of the hand for a pentagram, as a sign of a pact with a devil I'm sure there were other ways to tell, but it's been so long, and werewolves weren't my specialty.
  3. Personally, I just think it's gone on for long enough. It kind of creeps me out to keep seeing it. How many years do you need to keep saying the same thing in a thread for? I'm all for freedom of speech though. I don't have to be comfortable with it, but it's you're right to be creepy. Just don't do anything that warrants a restraining order
  4. Not quite what I was saying, but what you are saying is also true. I was just saying that people like writing about Chronos for the same reasons that people like reading about Vampires. Wish fulfillment. You get to be immortal, beautiful, all powerful, and with just a taste of evil to be cool. The regular humans become fodder level zoanoids. Is there any fic out there where a regular zoanoid is a regular ongoing character in the fic? I doubt it, as it wouldn't be very good wish fulfillment to have that in, and a lot of fics I've come across are done by ameteur writers who don't do literary quality work where the full dynamic array of characters is important (just griping here).
  5. That is a good point. It would explain how Dr Balcus was able to create the first zoanoids and Lords centuries ago... by picking up existing creator tech and putting it to use. On the other hand, they have succeeded in re-creating creator tech in modern tech equivalents. They've built mechanical processing tanks for instance, and turned the dead sea into one huge processing facility. They've also demonstrated enough working knowledge of DNA to work with hyperzoanoids, and insert weapons. They may do mix and match, but they must've learned enough mix and match to mix and match the human genome. Perhaps Gelpess (if that is the correct name of the lost number that took the shape of Mitsuki) was an attempt of a human disguise zoanoid, capable of mixing around it's human side for disguise purposes just as Aptom mixes around his zoanoid side.

    Guyver arcs!?

In my opinion, as I see the Arc laid out for story such as a tv season or such: Arc 1 Relics From Sho bonding with the unit to being destroyed in the mountain. We are always learning the past an going on the run Arc 2 New world order Sho unveiling the Gigantic to going Exceed and rescuing Aptom. We are now in the underground (role reversal between good and bad) resistance Arc 3 Power moves Everything to it's current point
  7. Technically cloning and viral replication should be able to reproduce ANY zoanoid, unless they are a genetic chimera (meaning different body parts have different DNA). Chronos genetic science already goes waaaaaay beyond this. They can go in an restructure DNA in order to create different creatures out of a person. RNA copies DNA. Why you couldn't modify a normal human to be a genetic match of a hyper candidate, and then perform the same zoamodifications I don't know. It would seem like more work, but it should still be doable
  8. Everyone talks to themselves. But talking to your twelve year old self takes talent:
  9. I so wish I had made this video. For the Zelda Fans, here is the girl that can dance and play violin simultaneously. Here is the Legend of Zelda:
  10. I LOVED this movie! It was not completely dark and brooding, but emotionally conveying how you would react to certain situation appropriately. It's dark when Uncle Ben dies, but romantic when Peter and Gwen are flirting. And they actually have fight scenes in daylight! I wouldn't call this movie dark, but rather serious. Raimi's version had cheese, especially with William Dafoe. This movie has well placed humor that is appropriate. It's a 3 hour movie, and was surprised to discover this when walking out of the theater, I had no idea. Everything was paced and developed perfectly. Flash is a bully to everyone, Peter does the descent thing and stands up to him (getting beaten up for it), and Gwen gets a little closer to him out of respect. Their relationship developed throughout the whole movie. Everything developed and evolved. I even loved Denis Leary as Captain Stacy
  11. Thank goodness for freedom of speech. How long has this thread been running now?
  12. I disagree with you Aether. I think the unit is acting constantly to make the will of the host a reality within the limits of the armor. Defined that way, there is no conflict with the host. And it would explain a few things in the manga, from how weapons were activated by the armor at first, to the head beam firing at bullets in the anime, and even the reformatting of the Gigantic. All these have served what the hosts wants to do
  13. It seems to be a little of column A, and a little of column B. The best way to describe the function of the Control Metal is to say that it makes the will of the host a reality within the possibilities of the armor. It is of course limited by it's ability to read the host's mind. If the brain is destroyed it is incapable of doing this and can only defend the host at all costs while regeneration takes place. This basic mind reading action is probably why the Gigantic was formed from the Relic... it is safe to assume that all Control Metals in Advent/Uranos/Creator tech operate on this basic principal. Given this, the control metal will use the weapons itself without the host realizing it if it serves the general will of the host. The host can also actively will the weapons to work just as he wills his arm to work, as the unit becomes and extension of his own body. Granted, this is all theory. Is it worthy of a wiki submission though?
  14. True, but Lisker's Control Metal was damaged. It is difficult to tell what is normal with Lisker, and what is a potential byproduct of the malfunctioning Control Metal. Poetically though, could we say that Lisker talks out the side of his mouth? I'm not sure how that figure of speech works
  15. I think it's the Vampire syndrome. Stan Lee pointed out that the most popular fiction is that which you want to become. Hulk is powerful, but big green and ugly, so although people like to just vent rage, he's not as popular as Spiderman, whom just wears a mask (he could be anyone) and has cool powers. Cronos is powerful, the Zoalords are akin to eleguent vampires... sipping champaign, and deciding the fate of lives on mere whims. That kind of fantasy is very seductive. And to OC, to Mary Sue it and put yourself in there is just another level in the fantasy play. A form of mastrobation for the ego, or escapism. One thing that I have is that I also don't want to contradict the main story too much either. Writing a story off to the side can keep it safe, you won't hit any plot conflicts as often
  16. I would love to sit down one afternoon and read a huge chunk of the novel. I think I'll wait until you guys have it finished first. This is a novel, afterall; not a datafile. There is a difference in the way it is meant to be read. By all means, please, keep translating
  17. Posty post post, as requested
  18. It is not at all necessary to talk to the subject before engaging in their dismissal. In fact, it is completely unessecary, and not as much fun. All you really have to do is stop including them in the work schedule. Take away their hours, stop assigning them work. Then, delete their company email account, and change the system access password. Up next is to place brand new locks on all the doors and windows. And don't forget to stare at them funny everytime they pass you in the hall. Call security to inexplicably remove them from the premesise several times. And when they finally come to confront you by all these changes, calmly ecplain to them that they have been transfered to another branch. Write down the address for said branch, and even offer to take them their-why, because seeing that look on their face as they walk into the unemployment office is priceless. And on your way to the elevator, you give a slight turn and wave saying "He's aaaall yours". Granted, the 'unemployment office' technique is not for everyone. If it leaves you with personal feelings of guilt or abandonment, it can always be replaced with 'Mcdonalds', or any such fast food venue of your choosing. Granted, Mcdonalds is unhealthy and cruel, but that is a topic for another discussion.
  19. I just find it funny. A guy with super archery skills can do a better job at saving the world against invading aliens than say, the military sniper rifleman. Oh sure, the sniper can hit the target with a high velocity round round at pinpoint accuracy; Hawkeye can pump the same target with sharp pointy sticks. Hawkeye and Black Widow can kick butt, but what is so super about them compared to the rest of the team? What do they have that no regular military has?
  20. I think colors need to be applied in the right places. If you look down certain streets, the pavement is gray, the buildings are gray, the cars are dark blue or gray. Downtown Vancouver at night becomes an explosion of lights on the other hand, with brilliant pinks and blues and everything. The residential streets in spring have great green leaves, and for a week, the Sakura bloom. It all depends on when and where you are. In film, it takes a master to paint it properly. If not done right, it can seem hokey and amateur night. Grays are safe, especially when the subject matter is supernatural, or along those lines. The Quinjet is gray, just like a regular airforce jet. Easy for the audience to buy, and won't rip you out of the moment
  21. Reading the last in the Eragon books. What can I say, I LOVE the army of werecats concept. And to finally meet the REAL Galbatorix, whoms cape is cut from the wings of the wild dragon Bilgabad. The book was a nice Christmas present. Another few hundred pages to go
  22. I don't think the ACM is a single metal. Like the real CM, I suspect it is a complex allow-a matrix of materials. Each piece is a matrix that performs one aspect of its overall design. Lisker underwent various testing in the Japan branch, it seems the testing was extensive. Not to mention the scans from before Lisker actually bonded to it. It looks like they got a pretty good scan of it's molecular composition. They might not have been able to replicate it exactly, but it seems they sure got darn close. What intrigues me are the seem lines. That suggests they weren't able to make the final assembly in the same fashion as the Uranos; which is weird, considering how easily it slides apart for Relic nav sphere interface. I'm guessing they had problems linking it to a sample of booster flesh without it loosing control. Or maybe it was just a molding/extruding issue. Who knows. What would also be interesting, is if the seem lines actually serve a purpose, such as signal generation. Hopefully Takaya will give the tech geeks a little fun with a tidbit
  23. nobody has really thought about the quality of skill involved in a teleport. Yeah, I mentioned charge up time, but I also tried to suggest a mental effort involved. Some zoalords might be smarter than others, and some (like Rienzi) might have organs that aid them in seeing dimensions-(A mathematician can solve complex problems, but so can someone with a calculator)
  24. The teleport might take a charge up time. Perhaps time to gather the energy... or what I feel is more likely, time to map out the folds of gravity within the two locations that will be ported in order to traverse the fabric of space accurately. But who really knows?
