  1. I'm very surprised then, I find it unbelievably hard to hear anything other than "... For I'm ... Enzyme" at the end. Thanks for clarifying!
  2. I personally prefer the UK version which if I'm understanding correctly is the newer one? Is that just the Manga Ent. release? I've gotten a little confused reading your posts. Although I admit some of the sound mixing is better in the older dub - certain bits of music, grunts and sound effects that I didn't know where there until watching the US version got lost in the UK. While we're on the subject though, does anyone have ANY idea what Enzyme is saying in the UK version at 0:48? https://youtu.be/0poOZLGfl9s?t=48s It has been a mystery since I first saw it all those years ago.
  3. Just because we all love Guyver doesn't mean we can't be critical of it! Even if you were the only to dislike it I doubt anyone here would've given you a hard time for it.
  4. Absolutely not because it wasn't a very good adaptation. I've actually spent the last few weeks re-watching numerous Guyver clips (gotta stay interested somehow!), mostly of scenes that have been adapted numerous times into anime and the 2005 series ALWAYS misses the mark. I can't actually be bothered to watch the whole of the first episode of the 2005 series but I watched the key scenes earlier this week and while, yes it's well drawn (most of the time), everything lacks punch and emphasis. The changes to the manga don't offer anything positive to the narrative or watching experience. Turning the truck driver into two police men makes for a fess interesting situation, and even though the driver was an asshole in the manga you could at least relate to the fact that he was just a guy in the wrong place at the wrong time. Making Malmot a family man was also completely uninteresting because it wasn't developed - why should the viewer care about this guy when all they've seen from him is the murdering of the two police men? He was more pitiful in the 12-part OVA just by having him talk to Agito on the phone at the beginning of the episode. Malmot's transformation is done okay, and he's actually drawn extremely well, but Gregole's transformation lacks any emphasis. It looks like they just didn't want to go through the effort of making it more dramatic so they have him transform far from the camera so they could skimp on the details of it. Same thing goes for their fight - I can only imagine they didn't want to go through the effort of animating the arm wrestling match so instead we get... basically nothing before Malmot blows himself up. Out of Control's fight on the other hand is unbelievably well animated for something that came out 30 years ago. Removing the arm wrestle completely ruins the setup for the wrestle with the Guyver; the power scale from Malmot - Gregole - Guyver is less evident. Sho bonding with the unit is slow and lacks the dynamism it had in the 12-part OVA. The fight with Gregole looks amazing and thank goodness they kept the arm wrestle this time but what is with Gregole aiming his punch to the side of the Guyver's head? I imagine it's supposed to represent the Guyver dodging the punch but he doesn't move at all. And the finish of the fight also makes me feel like, once again, they just couldn't be bothered to animate the Guyver's last attack, so creating that moment of suspense was the easy way out. I appreciate it must be an absolute nightmare animating Guyvers and Zoanoids but if they got it right 30 years ago pre-digital animation then there's absolutely no reason they shouldn't be able to do it now. If the budget was too tight then they may as well have not done it at all. Maybe it's just one of those series that needs that 80s/90s anime grit to work. The English voice acting is also pretty bad - the delivery is often flat and the quality difference between the JP and ENG acting gets pretty bad in some parts of the series. (For the record I'm not always opposed to english voice acting - FMA has a great dub). But this is a more general criticism rather than being directed to the first episode specifically. That said, I disagree with you Maze on the soundtrack. It's not as good as the 12-part, but it's still pretty cool. I like the idea of this thread, I might play along for a little while but it's hard to stay entertained while watching this series. I would never recommend it to anyone wanting to get into Guyver - at least not until the last few episodes.
  5. Lovely to see they're still good enough friends to be partying together even after all these years! (especially Marisa Cody whose part I can't even remember. Is Mary the female Zoanoid?)
  6. Guyver1 posted a thread about it a little while back: http://www.japan-legend.com/forums/topic/14776-monthly-shonen-captain-guyver-covers/ Some of them are very nice, but as to be expected these are all from well over 10 years ago. edit: oh shoot, I just re-read your post and saw you've already seen these Captain ones. In that case, I think I remember there being an Ace cover for the reveal of the Gigantic Exceed? Or maybe I'm just making that up? Sorry.
  7. It's still on the Shonen Ace website: https://web-ace.jp/shonenace/ And is definitely not the sort of thing that would happen quietly. You could be sure that at least the Relax Point would post something about it. Speaking of Relax Point, the guy who runs it posted a reply to an inquiry he made to Kadokawa: "I got an inquiry to KADOKAWA about the situation that Guyber was closed for more than a year and a half and got an answer. I also posted it on Twitter, "It is being adjusted for the series and the timing of restart is undecided." It is unknown why the holidays have continued so far and what is being adjusted, but we only hope for good news. " http://unit-g.sakura.ne.jp/ Bad translation aside, it still seems quite vague and the hiatus is still indefinite. But at least they've acknowledged the series.
  8. Sure is getting harder and harder to keep interested in this series.
  9. Good stuff, thanks for posting! My favourite is the pink and yellow April one for sure. It's a shame that it seems unlikely that Guyver will get a cover these days. It doesn't seem to go with the look that Shonen Ace pushes for on their contemporary covers. Do you own all these old issues of Shonen Captain?
  10. Absolutely love the updated Gigantic Dark and Razell! These are such love letters to the fans. Wish I had space/money for these. That'd definitely be my top pick
  11. For when the red theme is fixed, will the option to change the theme still be at the bottom of the forum? It's been so long since I've had to change it I've forgotten if that's where it always was - it doesn't seem to be there now...
  12. No worries, I gotcha And yeah, a popular theory at the moment is that Apollon is a Creator or one of their messengers. If I remember right his armour is made from the same stuff as a Guyver's control medal which is also a pretty big hint. The meaning of his name certainly implies that he's come to clean up the mess the Creator's made all those years ago, though it is unclear as to why he seems to be just watching over Alky
  13. As the topic recently turned into a "Yoshiki Takaya status" discussion (and since I didn't feel like it deserved its own topic), Takaya has been visited by Steve Wang: And This group shot implies something is in the works
  14. At the risk of derailing the topic a little bit, I must simply and politely ask what the logic behind your thinking is here?
  15. We haven't even seen Galenos in what must be 10+ years. I have no doubt Takaya has his character planned out but it sure is a strange decision in story telling to have him absent for so long.
  16. Several years! Act 1 was release in 1989 and Act 2 in 1992. Interesting to still see new guyver merch popping up from so long ago
  17. If he really is that strict then you have to wonder how some of the animation/quality issues with the 2005 series slipped through, unless that's what made him become this rigid in his ways.
  18. Was gonna say what Gazham said - nice find man!
  19. When was the last time Guyver got a Shonen Ace cover? Guyver II F's introduction? Despite being one of it's most long running series, I can't imagine Guyver is one of Aces' "top" series, so a cover dedicated to it for its return would be quite a pleasant surprise indeed!
  20. I didn't realize they changed the dialog for the dub, does Sho comment on the control medal in the JP version? I never really thought too much about it, but I suppose that scene does play out a bit oddly. I always assumed that the zoom in on his fake CM was for the audience and Sho was also aware but was now just aware of his blade breaking... But I guess that doesn't really make any sense since his CM is clearly fake from the beginning. Interesting!
  21. I don't think it's the same one - the shapes of the legs are radically different and other smaller details and shapes don't add up, like the 'belt'-like area around the gravity orb. what publication are those scans from?
  22. Woah, these are way beyond all expectations. It's great to see Guyver get such treatment. Really dig how they decided to take a more realistic musculature route with the tendrils under the armour too. They do look pretty huge though
  23. Doing God's work lost unit! Thanks a lot man. Really looking forward to seeing the artwork.
  24. A lot of people forget that the Draglord's silhouette appears in volume 9 during X-Day despite not appearing fully until volume 24 - that means he had planned Kahn's transformation over 10 years before he revealed it! It certainly seems like he plans some things meticulously, though certain others may be a little improvised - I reckon the briefness of the most recent Zoalord fights were last-ish minute decisions. But I imagine (or just hope?!) whatever he has in store for Galenos will have been decades in the making, as that's a character he has not even shown in years.
  25. How big is the book? Also lost unit, you could try slipping a blank sheet of paper behind the page you're scanning? It won't help much with what's overleaf, but the page before should get blocked out.
