when the music industry was selling cd's/records/tapes (physical product) by the boat load, there was so much money being made that they would just throw money at aspiring young directors to make a music video. That is how we got many of our famous directors today. Just check out the most popular videos and see who's doing the big budget films (though the new trend appears to be commercials, such as the budweiser ads and Gore Verbinski). There was so much disposable income from cd sales that they could afford videos that would act as commercials for the cd's. This loss of copy right DID affect aspiring young directors. It was inevitable. Now, new directors must prove themselves in other outlets, just as music 'distributors' must profit by other means.

The last hundred years were completely new to performance art. We finally had the tech to record, and sell copies of it. We could treat it as a physical object for the first time. Copy right laws reflect that. Now, with digital media we can copy it infinitely, making it as intangible as it was before the recorded medium. It was difficult to profit from performance art before the recording, and it is now becoming difficult again. The major companies made millions from recordings, they wish to protect their cash cows, and have no idea how to profit under the new system. Old dogs are trying to make laws as to brow beat the general public back into the good old days. There are ways to profit under the news system, but it is so radical from the old culture. For instance, the old system would advertise the release in advance, to build up anticipation. That doesn't work anymore. In the digital era, you drop everything out at once, in its final form (modern thinking doesn't like to wait, and the memory isn't that long anymore). Old school would charge $30 per physical copy, modern is just a dollar per download. Dealing with the old dogs can be frustrating sometimes. Oh well

A dose of reality to sober the senses:

Everyone wishes they had powers, but apparently, for some that is a reality:

Which is strange, because most people are talking about Blackberry going out of business if more people don't pick it up. Would you say it is the quantity of games and apps that keep iphone and android up higher?

I have logged thus far 182 hours and 9 minutes on my current phone. I've had it since about 2007. The paint is chipped, the model number sticker has peeled off, and the battery plate is a little loose. That being said, it works like a dream. I asked the clerk for something durable, and she delivered. Beat That! (hehe-jk)

I agree. The only part of the Amazing suit I didn't like was the boots; as in how the vertical lines met the horizontal lines. They just seemed to clash a little. The rest of the suit was just incredibly sleek and spindly. But I guess there were too many complaints. Hopefully they'll transition to the new suit in a good way. We'll see

Ok, this trailer has me feeling MUCH better about this movie now. I like how they have both the grey and the black. And I can see why the human hand now, as he's comparing his flesh self to the metal. Very poetic visually, for a single shot at least. Nice. If it weren't for that, it would be totally stupid. I kinda want to see this now.

Your right. Afleck is no Christian Bale. Grunting out a batman voice in a flat emotionless face takes talent.

heaven forbid it challenge the ideologies of parents, and push forward a generation past the preconceived notions of the prior generation

It has a name with some recognisability. It'll get made. Every movie that is made now has a name that is already recognizable to the audience, because that is the only thing people are buying tickets for. I am wondering if there will be a 'Scrabble' movie? Or how about 'Watching paint dry'? It will be a really sad day when 'Movie' the film is finally released in theaters. That being said, a good Gundam movie can be done. Gundam at it's best has always been an essay, or exploration of war in some facet. Every core story (that i have seen) has three sides to the conflict-two directly at war, and a third arising to try and end it. There is always a young hero in the elite pilot list. Operations in oth orbit and the ground. How hard could it be to stick to these vague elements? um, that was rhetorical. But in theory, someone -could- do it right

The reactions of these people impress me. It gives me hope for the future

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRUMt9-Oig0 Skip to 8:52. The comparison to Citizen Kane is just incredible. Skip to 12:38 to see the cinematography and editing style. He's right, it's incredibly sloppy

Eugenics happened in my province, and the aboriginal medical testing was almost nation wide. You have to remember, that technically this was very progressive. Eugenics and medical testing were governments using science to violate peoples human rights. I'm pro science, but not like this

Oh this is just great. For those outside my country, we used to have aboriginal schools from 1870-1990. Basically, the government would take native children from their families, and hand them over to church run schools so that these kids could be 'civilized'. Of course, many lawsuits over sexual assault, abuse, and such abounded. This is on top of the eugenics programs that my home province was running, sterilizing the mentally handicapped, until they were getting sued by those that were eventually cured. But now, back to the aboriginals, it seems we were doing 'medical testing' on them too! http://news.ca.msn.com/top-stories/aboriginal-children-used-in-medical-tests-commissioner-says What the hell?

I want this to go on. I'm hoping the tv movie thing continues for a while. Agreed, this was the best

This is actually a good series: Makes me want to read that book in particular. It sounds interesting

The best part there, in my opinion, is that isn't cg there. Electro's makeup is battery operated, and actually lights up! To think, the actor has a mild live current running over his skin. I wonder if he shocked anyone on set?

I moved away from my home town a few years ago, and wow, what is happening there now. You see, Lethrbidge Alberta is in the bible belt of Canada. So I heard all the doom and gloom predictions of the end of the world, and how we will need a safe haven. Even with global warming, the coastal places will be flooded, so one would think something so inland, shielded by mountains, and thousands of miles of open plains would be enough to protect people. Hell, when I was growing up, the grass was always yellow because it never rained, it was eternal drought. Well... things change. Earlier this month, a huge rain swept through Alberta, bringing down the mountain ice and snow. The dams had to be released in order to prevent them from bursting. This flooded out entire towns for a few weeks. This also caused an uproar when people found out that their insurance was refusing to cover it. This isn't as new, big rains started about ten years ago (when I was still living there), something completely new happened. A bright sunny day suddenly burst into a thunderstorm. Huge drops of water came down in a torrential down pour, while the sun was still shining incredibly brightly. You could see the haze of cloud in the sky, but also the sun mostly clear through the brownish orange haze. The drops must have been an inch each, and so fast it was like a machine gun ripping into the earth. The whole thing lasted for no more then five minutes. No more than five minutes, and it left the underpass, and several homes flooded. Some people tried to drive their cars through the underpass, and had to wait for it to get towed or drained. A lot of houses has severe water damage to their basements. The same thing happened five years later, proving that their sewer drainage connections needed to be upgraded. My home town is not designed to handle water, it was built with droughts in mind. And this last week, we have yet another huge storm that lasts no more than an hour. The people on the outskirts of town reported a tornado that almost touched down What I find interesting is that today, across the continent in Ontario, Quebec, and the coast, a tornado ripped through (the coast anyway) in the middle of the night. All three provinces had major wind damage. Last year, the warm front that was melting the glacier in Green land(?) pushed an ocean hurricane back into the New York coast, causing major damage. I'm suspecting a repeat this year, if this is the new climate change weather trend.

Seen it, loved it. I can walk away from it with only two complaints. Time frames were a bit confusing to me. When did Kaiju first invade? When is this movie taking place? Not really an issue though. My only gripe is what also helps sell the shear size and scope of the robots and monsters. The cameras are so close, and the action blurry, it's a little difficult with the fast cutting to tell when it going on sometimes. Don't you dare blink. I found the occasional establishing shot refreshing. It was done a lot better than many other movies, but I don't like to see it every single time. I have to force myself to focus in order to understand all the wonderful choreography. It's kind of not as 'clear' all the time. That being said, it is still utterly amazing, and loved it. I wanted to stay and watch the credits to see if there was a credit "Based on" to Evangelian or anything, but I really had to... um... So I can see how this started off as evangelian, and morphed into something new. I mean, Kaiju are invading, and the world has come together to create a team that can take them on one at a time. Even the plug suit design is similar. Osuka is a guy this time, and has 'daddy issues' instead of mommy issues. Still hot headed and arrogant though. The leader isn't Kenji's dad anymore, but still acts like Rei's father (and still doesn't smile). Many of the visuals are even Evangelian lifted, from a shot of the hangar bay, the elevator they use going into combat, Gendo talking to his leaders, the cyclops robot, or the life pods in the sea. This is a worthy Eva update.

aren't there some 'healing' springs in the area? I thought I read something about natural springs there that people like the bath in

Bestiality? Really? People are complaining that this movie has bestiality because of xeno relationships? Are they new to trek? The whole Kirk kissing alien girls in the series? Spock's half blood thing? Some people http://www.giantfreakinrobot.com/scifi/colorado-pastor-condemns-star-trek-darkness-promoting-bestiality.html
