  1. Yep, the movie can be enjoyed. Just got into discussing the subtle messages in the movie nope. I'm saying that morality, to a point is a part of our insticts, that we evolved with it. Though I can agree with what you are saying too about our inherit evil tendencies. Just not evolving specifically.
  2. Nice, very good
  3. I couldn't agree with you more Odin. very well said Humans would not become stronger if we lacked morality, we would wipe ourselves out. The only way to survive is if we became solitary creatures, in which, unless we became stronger we would be easy prey. Without morality, murder becomes no problem. If we murder more than are born, we are led to extinction. Truth makes communication meaningful, and allows us to work together (collecting food, and saving the injured). If we can not trust each other, then we can not work together and civilization breaks down. Would we have hospitals without morality? How many of us have ever been extremely sick in our life times? An old friend of mine pointed out that without science (knowledge that is honestly passed down and accumulated through the ages) that by all rights he should be dead, save for what our artificial practices have done, diabetes would have killed him.
  4. the shadows on her right shoulder are missing, if that's what you were talking about, yes. Nice, thanks Durendal
  5. which is incorrect, because social creatures require morality in order to work together. Evolution does not breed out morality.
  6. at least when he did you knew it was clean, lol
  7. Wow, so many phones. I'm assuming this does not include land lines, for which I think I've had of those in total. I got my first phone in 2002/3. It was a motorola something, it had a cheap camera which was cool at the time. It broke, so I replaced it with a similar model, a nice upgrade. That one broke too. The problem was that I couldn't hear people on it any more. Dropped it too many times. 2007, I asked a friend whom worked for the store about what the most durable phone would be. She gave me another motorola, with a few less features, but it's worked incredibly well. The paint is pealing, the model number sticker fell off, but the phone keeps ticking perfectly. It has a calender, alarm clock, calculator, text (for the rare occasion people want to type to me), voice mail/id, and for the rare occasion... I can even call people! I have no desire to upgrade, but if I do, it would be to a blackberry, because of the security features/encryption techniques.
  8. started watching this when it first came out, loved it, but school got in the way. Stopped watching tv after that. Maybe I'll pick up the dvd's. Did they ever find their dad? Does the anime version I see on store shelves tie in at all?
  9. Apparently celebrating Power Rangers 20th anniversary: http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/thatguywiththeglasses/nostalgia-critic/39689-nostalgia-critic-turbo-a-power-rangers-movie
  10. Yes, thank you. I have all the major stuff that we have seen in the shows and movies. I'm looking for anything we havn't seen. If there is something you want to do in space, what would it be? Do I need a specific room designated for butterflies? You tell me. I just realized that I should put in air compressors and an oil pump room (to lubricate all the motors and door sliders). They've never had it in the show, but it makes sense for it to be there. Now I need a tonne more stuff to fit in, any ideas would be appreciated, thanks guys
  11. yeah, I have all of that already. Star trek route. I looking for specific things. Like hyperbolic chambers for dealing with decompression sickness. Because it's a space ship, and accidental hull breaches would cause those kinds of problems, so dealing with them in space would be required, and very realistic. So far, my ship has: -Bridge -Captain's ready room (and first officers) -Briefing room -Gallery (multi purpose, can serve for diplomatic meetings) -Shuttle pod air lock -VIP quarters -Mess hall, with dry goods storage, then a consumable protein generator system -Laser based waste reactor and element storage (breaks down waste molecules and stores them for future use) -grooming shop hair cutting, basically -laundry facility, with tailor station -sensor suites (in different sections of the hull) -subspace antennae, and labs to analyze ambient subspace particles and signals -chemistry, biology, particle physics, and cybernetics labs -oxygen generators, with back ups -gravity and inertia generators -shield generators and phaser particle generators -water and oxygen tanks -computer core -deuterium and anti-deuterium fuel tanks -geology labs -aquatic lab/swimming pool, with gear locker for away missions and research -sickbay complete with office, surgical suite, nurse station, intensive care unit, stasis care, morgue, quarantine, and emergency disease research. Not to mention medical protein tissue generator -Security suite complete with mission briefing room, report offices, interrogation room, brigs, target practice range, tactical briefing room, and heavy arsenal storage -life boats -electable black box whatever it is called -eva air lock (for walking on the hull) -emergency crash landing terrain vehicle, used for scouting and recovery (it is low power, so it has wheels, and a lift to bring it to the hull exterior) -away team gear locker -transporter room -cargo docking bay, with main cargo bay, and smaller cargo bays off branching. And specialized cargo transporters -showers -botanical garden, with mezzanine. Not to mention botany labs -modular gym, capable of being fitted for a variety of purposes, from sports to security field training -science project operations center (organizes all science functions on the ship) -thrusters -meditative tea room, located just under the impulse engine, and possible has a rock garden and windows facing aftward -emergency bridge -main engineering -coolant tanks, with distribution lines -shuttle bay, with shuttle repair bay -maintenance bays, with tool lockers, and mission specific tool kit locker for quick response -parts cage, and metal stock storage -machine shop for fabrication of parts -first aid station -shuttle gallery, for diplomats observing incoming shuttles -probe and torpedo recovery rooms, with modification labs -turbolift repair bay -ships library -work bee, for engineers to quickly scout around outside the ship -shuttle mission briefing room -emergency reserve batteries -bussard hydrogen collection tank -antimatter experimentation lab, with isolation shielding and emergency ejection systems -antimatter and core ejection systems -thermal/cryogenics lab -cryogenics storage (refrigerator) -primary core power tap -electrical breaker systems
  12. Hi guys, I've done a lot of work on a fictional starfleet style ship. I've got a few blank spaces I need to fill in. Does anyone have some ideas about things that a starship would need? Like an astrometrics lab? Radiation contamination purgers? I want everything on my ship to have a purpose, and not just be a random room or machine Your thoughts? Thanks
  13. Wow, this guy is just brilliant:
  14. Superman is space jesus. Jor El gave us his only begotten son (whom is powered by the sun) to 'save' mankind, and to live as an example for us. The Kent's are Mary and Joseph, a couple with no child, virginal. The bad guys are science heavy. They wear technology, saying things like evolution makes them superior because they have no morality (untrue). Jor El, conversely, as a 'scientist' flies around on an alien bird and gives his son a natural conception because science is bad. Jor El points out that using science to mine the core of their world led to it's destruction. Jor El is then the heavenly spirit, walking around the ship giving Kal El advice. Right there you have the father, son, and holy ghost. As a boy, after saving the school bus, the lady came to suggest that Clark was godly/gifted. In his vision, he is even on an apocalyptic mountain of skulls. The movie repeats themes of faith, trust, and choice/free will.
  15. We've already had 3 superman movies with Lex in them. Can we hold off on that a bit please? Let's give some other bad guys a chance. How about Mr Ixlplc (sp?) Or Solomon Grundy. Or even the Joker, just to mix things up a bit.
  16. Currently reading 'A brief history of Cults'. It's amazing what the death toll comes to by people claiming to be prophets of Jesus, or the reincarnation himself. Just finished the "Restoration of the Ten Commandments" cult, that ended up in more deaths than the infamous Jim Jones cult with an estimated 924. All this because the prophecy of the Apocalypse not coming to fruition on Dec 31 1999. Amazing what people will put themselves through
  17. I'm not talking about the lack of humor, I'm just saying all the emotions were the same. It's almost the exact same emotion for almost the whole movie. That is what brings it close to the edge of boring. Still enjoyable though, but close
  18. Review So I went to see Man of Steel last night, and found it enjoyable. For those looking for something emotional, take in the beginning of the movie as much as you possibly can, because after Kal El comes to Earth, the emotional tone is pretty flat. My tears welled up in the beginning, but nothing other than an interest in the events after that. The beginning was kind of like Abrahms first Star trek in its emotional. For those that hat shaky cam, get used to it in this movie, unless it was something wrong with our theaters projector. The entire film seemed to be shot with an over the shoulder cam, which means the match mover guys in the vfx department must have had their work cut out for them due to all the effects. Krypton was pretty good, and very fleshed out. From Kal El's arrival to Earth up until his donning of the cape, it's pretty much a story told in flashbacks. So the whole movie is basically an hour of flashbacks to explain how the various points of his life have developed who he is as a man. Okaaaaay, that's one way to do it. I can mentally understand his motives, and that's fine; but everything is so disjointed, it's difficult to get a single story out of it until halfway through. The lack of any emotional depth kinda sucks, because except for a few moments, Kal El never expresses anything, and he never has to worry about losing anything. There is no risk for him (except for maybe a moment when he's a kid in a closet). The entire supporting cast of the movie is expressing the exact same emotion in the exact same way-awe. Everyone is in awe of Kal El, which is nice to see it realistically portrayed, but gets boring to see an hour of it. One thing pissed me off right royally though. A bad guy says the are superior because evolution has no morality. That is total bs, said by a writer that apparently has NO understanding of what evolution actually says. In real evolutionary theory, lone wolf creatures that live solitary existences have no need of morality. Social creatures that work in groups however REQUIRE it for their survival. If the murder rate exceeds the birth rate, then the species kills itself off. If people lie more than they tell truth, then communication becomes meaningless, and civilization falls apart. Kal El walks into a church at one point to look for guidance, which I have no problem with. The message for the movie is faith and trust, which I have no problem with. But combined with the religious imagery, I kind of took offense to the bashing of evolution. I don't like how they pit religion against science. It's stupid, because they were showing science in action as being real, but were they saying it was evil, and faith good? Perhaps in the sequel they will show the evils of faith, and how many people have been murdered by it.
  19. Was Khan defined by being Sikh? Was that what made him who he is? Kind of discriminatory, in my opinion. I mean, wasn't it a Cuban that played him originally? That's like saying it has to be a Canadian or American to play Wolverine. And what about his motives are forced? Just curious on that one, not really sure. Part two of that review (with spoilers) points out that her in underwear shows that Kirk does have interest in Carol Marcus. Though I think everyone agrees the shot went on for too long. The editor should have cut it down a little.
  20. A pretty good review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=vL4GKFkYF6I
  21. Since spoilers are now in the offing, I liked finally seeing a Dreadnaught class starship in something other than a fanfic. And the involvement of Section 31? I didn't see that one coming. My wife thinks Spock is cute. She keeps asking me now to watch the old ones again. I think I'm getting pointy ears for Christmas, hehe
  22. "what I want to see is, a world with out.... Line please"
  23. Just love the Apex armor on a human. Who knew? Totally kick ass
  24. But we ARE developing in philosophical terms. Anyone that has tried to push forward the philosophy of startrek, and made any real headway into world peace, has been assassinated On the direct forefront, in the political arena, peace is a joke and nothing more than a talking point. The United Nations is a great idea, but has been corrupted so that even it's police agencies have been corrupted into organized crime. In the area where it's supposed to count, we have been disappointed and failed miserably. On the other hand, our social evolution has advanced infinitely due to the advent of the digital age, specifically, thanks to the internet. Ideas used to be spread by word of mouth, and could be silenced easily. The sword and club ruled. Now... "you can't stop the signal". A single idea or fact can spread throughout the world, and close minded communities are struggling to censor thoughts. Religions with false claims have suppressed the rights of various peoples for eons, justifying most any horrendous act for there cause. Now, truth can be spread far more easily. People are reluctant to change, but it slowly does occur. After all, they say that the internet is where religion comes to die. We have a long way to go, but we are getting there. Teetering on the brink of becoming borg one day perhaps, but solving some of our ancient problems too. Our technology is destroying ancient dogmas and the economy. It is destroying the reasons for our primitive barbarism.
