Okay, something's gotta be happening with the franchise if they're doing something like this.

Either that or they are just milking the franchise off of desperate fans like us looking for more.

More merchandise does not necessarily mean more new material.  If the story will continue, they will make a big announcement of it.  This is more likely a strategy to sate fans appetite over the vacuum the manga left, and keep the brand alive.  They are skating on thin ice relying on nostalgia to drive sales.  The fans are getting older and it will dry out eventually if no new materials gets released to hook on newer, younger fans.
