Salkafar
Probably the least-anticipated blockbuster of all time. It should have been the greatest movie ever made, of course, being the final film in the most beloved franchise ever, but... well... Mistakes Were Made. I have a spoiler, though, which might be interesting, from a guy who apparently saw a pre-screening: Rey is Palpatine's granddaughter. I have to give credit to Abrams: he picked up on the fact Rey's light saber handling in the first movie is very reminiscent of how Palpatine wielded his in 'Revenge', and still managed to work with 'Your parents were nobody' from 'The last Jedi'. Apparently she takes the name 'Skywalker' in the end, although that doesn't make sense... although my headcanon is that Anakin wasn't "born from the Force" at all, but was the son of Palpatine. After all, the Sith must have known of the prophecy, and Darth Plagueis and his apprentice were trying to create life. If they somehow found high Force potential in Shmi Skywalker - and they must have been looking for that anyway, either to gain new followers or nip potential Jedi in the bud - what would have made more sense than to 'create' their own Chosen One? Of course that would suggest Rey was Darth Vader's child, sired near the end of his life. It is possible. A repeat performance. Some people would say Shmi was 'no one'. She was only a slave, after all. Edited October 25, 2019 by Salkafar

To put it simply, he doesn't quite care about most series plot shenanigans and just likes entertaining movies/shows. So if has some entertaining stuff, but piss poor plot? He'll still enjoy it. He's not that picky like a lot of us. I wish I could be like that sometimes, but that is just not me =P

Larz Zahn
that said, i'll still see episode 9 just to finish the series, but i have absolutly Zero expectations. that was all robbed from me in ep 8. so yeah, its kinda a bleak time for my wars of stars at the moment. strike that. the Mandalorian is freaking amazing! Salkafar
Welp, it's here, and... well, one critic probably encapsulated it with the phrase "I don't hate it". 58% on Rotten Tomatoes after 223 critics' reviews. For the finale of the Star Wars cycle. Who could ever have predicted this, ten years ago?
Tora Tan
that's really not a good score at all..... Edited December 19, 2019 by Tora Tan I signed an NDA.
RazorLaser
I honestly don't know why people worry about what Rotten Tomatoes says. Make up your own damn mind. I really enjoyed it after hating The Last Jedi.

Yeah, I mean all those people who depend on critics to guide them will not find their way to the movie..... Meh to that type of shite, watch something because you want to, not because some other gobshite (or groups of them) put it on a pedestal.

I wouln't give a shite if their profession is knitting and it is a knitting guide. It's Star Wars, if you can't make a judgement call on something that is guessable and need others to do so just to decide what time you're going to use in your life you needs harder choices. Simply put, if a new Guyver movie was in the cinema most people who visit this board would see it even if it had a minus rating on Rotten what's it called.... Salkafar
Yes, because we are Guyver fans. But would we see it even if it was made by JJ Abrams?
Salkafar
Holy cow. There is an avalanche of Youtube videos hating on this film.
*guyverfan
I loved how dark and evil they made the scenes feel with(with out spoiling it) 'he you cannot be named'......hehehe. But the final few fight scenes could of been better, especially with rey. Problem i felt is that they spent so much time filling out non essential characters back stories, just like the previous movie. The majority of the movie just felt flat and left a cardboard taste in my mouth, like the home brand biscuits.
durendal
I still haven't seen it. I'm guessing that not a lot of people like it mainly because we got used to the same kind of storytelling. If this was shown 10 or 20 years ago, opinions might be different then. People are just expecting too much. Darth Vader being Luke's father *gasp* might have shocked a lot of people way back in 1980, but use the same plot now and nobody bats an eye. I'll still watch it though regardless what people say about it. I'll form my own opinion then.

Larz Zahn
this movie... (deep breath) its... better than the 1st two of the trilogy, but there is still many things with it that makes it hard to watch. my biggest problem was what they did to Luke in the Last Jedi. That can't been forgiven, lol. i didnt mind her being related to palpatine so much as her being his grand daughter... great grand daughter sure, but as a grand daughter she'd be as old as luke and leia or atleast pretty close to age. i mean... my money was her being Lukes daughter... but at least she wasnt a kenobi. anything Force related i adored, i always enjoy seeing new force powers or force powers used differently. so orbital lightening strike is cool with me, especially since he did something similar in dark empire with the Force Storm. o gawd i was so happy to see the Snoke clones, that made me sooooooo happy that palpatine was behind him and it was not some random strong in the Force character that just happened to appear at some time in their life. and apparently Luke and Leia had knowledge of him, and let him close enough to Ben to grab his ear. problems... science.... they keep ruining Hyperspace travel for me.... using hyperspace "skipping" to go from planet to planet instaneously is just disappointing. to quote han loosely... "thats not how the HyperSpace works!" i guess gravity no long has any effect on hyperspace... which is stupid because thats how they explain how the Imperial Interdictor Cruisers work. by creathing a gravity well that forces ships to come out of hyperspace. im going to ignore the deathstar laser cannons on every star destroyer, i can actually see them doing that even if i dont like the gist. at least Rose, Fin, and Poe had much better roles in this movie. a movie where i didnt cringe whenever rose opened her mouth.. who knew? (like to point out i hate how her character was portrayed... not the actress or the existance of her character) and lets not forget the Leia... movie has Leia training Rey early on, which is good! but... she had already passed away when 8 was being made... so all the footage here was from scenes from 8 and 7... and that tells me that they intended to have Leia train rey in the last movie?? why... that would of been wonderful!! why couldnt we see that version instead of what we got?? seriously, if Leia trained rey, would this be after she left luke and went back to the resistance? how much different would... could 8 of been?? it possibly could of been epic! and AND LUKE COULD STILL BE ALIVE... (sorry.... still sore over that, heh, Lukes ma boy.) Edited January 17, 2020 by Larz Zahn details
Salkafar
To be fair, Death Star-type lasers of not-quite-blowing-up-an-entire-planet level mounted on a Star Destroyer have been a thing. In fact one featured in Dark Empire, if I recall correctly.
Larz Zahn
You're not wrong, in dark empire, the main ship with a single component laser of a death star was the eclipse, a super star destroyer that was the designated flaghip ship of the emperor. next to that were the soverign... sovereign... sov...-whatever-class super star destroyers that were slightley smaller than the eclipse. they had to be that size i believe to fit the housing of the super laser. and both were over 10x larger than an imperial star destroyer, which was what was seen in ep 9. im trying to remember what the darksabers size was... i dont think they ever put a number on it but it was massive... but i cant recall if it was the size of a imperial or larger. i think i have a picture some where....
