it does feel somewhat like the black panther. not sure why. -
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
Tora Tan replied to jerrygoodman's topic in General 'whatever'.
if the marvel comics aren't ironman, captain america, spiderman, hulk, thor, etc then what are they? these new movies don't seem very familiar to me. are these the mainstay marvel popular heroes? -
I'm glad the server will be more stable now. it was offline for almost a week last time ^^ it looks like the ranks have all been turned into rockets on our avatars though. it looks a bit ugly covering our avatar like that and it's more difficult to look at what somebody's rank is. would it be possible to restore them to under our icon, as words?

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

I don't like what I see. it all looks very generic. -
I don't think anyone's bothering to check any more. not much point. it's been 5 years of hoping. we have to learn when to accept they are done with it.

what about the OVA? if that was publicised more, I am sure guyver would be more popular.

Kentaro Miura author of Berserk has passed away.
Tora Tan replied to undyinglight's topic in Japanese Entertainment
oh that's awful. now that story will forever be unfinished. unless he left some notes? -
hahaha!!! YES! That seems like an absolute must have!!

the sound effect is pretty awesome. you need to enunciate better though. It was very difficult to understand what you were saying because you were merging your words.

That doesn't look like carnage. carnage has black teeths that are not differentiated from his face. also, his red is very bold with black patterning. If they are sticking with this lame design, it will be a no watch for me.

I thought the advocacy had translated all the volumes? I'm very confused now then.
-
why would you pay someone to translate? it's already been done. did you even read the front page of the forums?

I never followed any discussion about this show. I just took it as it came. I had no idea about the power broker, I though it was already established who the character was and that bucky already know who it was and had met them before. then when that guy appeared, I assumed he was the power broker due to how the other characters talked to him. after wandavision hinted many things but there was not really a big payoff, I decided not to get too embroiled or excited with any of this, and tried not to theorycraft.

I think so, that happened in volume 5, where he ate elegen. looks like that was released in 1989 so it's close. they could have known about it ? the OVA was separate series' though. they would have been released at different times. edit: I looked here https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/強殖装甲ガイバー#1989年「OVA(第1期)」 the first episode of the first OVA released end of september 1989. They definitely knew about it, but I guess there must have been a lot of planning work.

Scarlett Johansson as Major Kusanagi (Ghost in the Shell)
Tora Tan replied to ./Anonymous's topic in Japanese Entertainment
hmm... well it seems my memory of the movie is not too good!!! then if it's set in Japan, with Japanese characters, then how do they justify casting a white person... is this the last samurai all over again? -
well it was pretty special. it had powerful lasers and chemical weapons and a very tough outer shell. It was certainly comparable to Zxtole. Team 5 were done by Barcas though and he is the top elite scientist in chronos. Who made Zerbebuth? I get confused... was he made by chronos Japan HQ? or was that just in the Anime? Did team 5 come with guyot to chronos japan HQ? no that was ehe anime. in hte manga, Zerbebuth came with guyot, right? so he was probably made by one of guyot's own scientists?

Scarlett Johansson as Major Kusanagi (Ghost in the Shell)

That's my point though.. there is nothing about section 9 that says it has to be in Japan? any country can have an anti terrorist specialist organisation. And the name of the protagonist, could have been changed, but in the case of the movie, they actually had a very good plot reason for her being in another country and having that name. -
I agree. there are no words. I can only imagine, you just have to get through it. there is nothing anyone can say that can help? Just try and focus on something. What are your ambitions? what is your work?

maybe like aptom. or zxtole or zerbebuth, etc.

i don't think we saw ramotith in any of the primitive guyver flashbacks. but we do know that werewolves were the descendents of those primitive zoanoids. ramotith doesn't look like classical monsters to me so I don't think this was made by creators. the 'adjustment' seems to add bits and pieces of dna, just like vamore's lasers. i read somewhere that they were added in. other adjustments must use existing dna. some individuals are suited to different zoanoid types. natsuki pointed that out shortly after x day. she recalled a guy she met and said he looked like a gregole. also, hyper zoanoids tend to be highly individualised. this must be because they have certain dna, and this dna gives them good base strength, but also can be manipulated in more elaborate ways?

It's possible I guess... I don't recall Ramotith being any kind of first, but they did say he's the most common, right?

Scarlett Johansson as Major Kusanagi (Ghost in the Shell)
Tora Tan replied to ./Anonymous's topic in Japanese Entertainment
I don't know if anyone knows any reason why Ghost in the Shell has to be set in Japan and have Asian cast.... Hollywood casts Actors who will bring in the crowds. That is a simple factor of the business. They have to spend money to make a film and they take money in return. it is a business. So they have to do what will make money in order to avoid a flop. It can be a risky business and if you choose no big name actors, you could end up losing massive amounts of money. That is just the nature of the game. If they have a story that requires Asian actors then absolutely, they need to use Asian actors. Then comes the setting and the story.... They have to write what is familiar to them. Their writers are probably mostly living in the USA and their studios are in the USA and so they can relate to that easiest and be more sure of potentially making a good product. If they try to write a script about Japanese people living in Japan, it's going to be more of a challenge to them. It just makes sense to write about what they know and adapt foreign stories to their own culture. Generally speaking, a lot of Anime fans can be difficult to please. The Ghost in the Shell movie was really quite well done IMO. And in comparison to the original Ghost in the Shell feature length Anime... I found it much easier to watch. that original anime may have gotten a lot of critical acclaim, but personally I found it to be quite bad. the pacing was terrible and it ended at what felt like half way through, while also being on for too long. Maybe there is an issue though... perhaps many Anime and Manga only really work well within the context of Japanese society? Developing the idea to work with a different audience..... this can work if they adapt it fully. Films like Pacific Rim have done this very successfully. Also the recent Godzilla films have been very well done IMO. But these are cases of adaptations that do not feel the need to stick with the original characters, the original names, etc. I think this kind of loose adaptation can be far more successful. Edit: I also want to say... in future, if they want to make Anime Movies, they need to leave it to Japanese film studios. Hollywood could work with them and give them money and maybe figure out a way to have it appeal to a wide audience... but they have to use the economics of Japan and the audience that the Anime usually reaches. -
Oh!!! I did not notice!! now that makes more sense!!! See, I always wondered... how could anyone hope to succeed Cap... he was so strong and so agile and all of that. I don't consider Cap to be "the shield" or "a symbol" he was a man with extraordinary abilities and a pure heart. You cannot replace that.

out of universe? monsters or robots are often based on real world things so that the audience can relate to them. in universe? probably due to evolution and how we have junk DNA from most of what came before us. It would surely be easier to process a human by splicing in existing DNA. Hyper zoanoids are usually more elaborate though of course.
