  1. Because for many people it isn't a scientific issue, it is a very personal issue. Research means nothing to a person who is considering their own sexuality and thinking about who they are. Personally, I've got most of it figured out, I would say I'm 98% sure of myself. So now I study other people, watch their behaviour, listen to what they say, analyse etc. who is to say that MY research is less valid than 'scientific research' ? I am just as capable as any psychologist at studying people and analysing patterns and correlations. One could even say that their conclusions are coloured by past prejudice of past psychologists. as for genetic research etc.. I don't know anything about that. But I do know that romantic and sexual attachments to certain things are not due to genetics. a person with sexual fetish doesn't get that fetish from genetics. a fetish for cars? how could that find its way into our genetic code? how much evolution would it take to evolve a creature that is sexually excited by cars? taking the absurdity out of the situation though, I have seen studies on fetishism and unusual sexual preferences. it is usually a matter of association. association and strengthening of sexual desire with a particular situation or object. I'd also like to add that I have seen twins where one is gay and the other is straight. if it were so much due to genetics, then this would be fairly unlikely. I can't say if genetics has a big effect or not. after all, men generally are attracted to women and women are generally attracted to men, there is of course a part of our genetic code that will lead to sexual preference. that much is undeniable. but this is where it starts to get messy. gender identity starts to play a big part here and we have the cases of men born in female bodies and women born in male bodies. then there is also gender ambiguity. But I believe in this scenario, there is a different situation at play. if a person has genetic code that results in them being a female born in a male body, that person does not identify as gay or bisexual. which sort of suggests that our definitions of gay lesbian etc are not concerning genetics? in my view, this is a philosophical issue, not purely a scientific issue. because it includes social, personal psychological and other issues all working in unison. should we be working to prevent homosexuality? is that what the question was? no. homosexuality is a state that a person exists in and is usually satisfied with who they are. if you change that, it is no longer that person. If it were to be viewed as a disease (which it shouldn't) then I always believe in treating the cause not the symptom. in case A where it is purely a genetic cause, then that is evolution and should not be meddled with unless we want to control nature to that degree. then we can concentrate on turning humanity into a homogeneous mass of automatons. in case B where it is a psychological issue, we need to work together to address our various social issues. But that is something we ought to do for pursuit of happiness and let the chips fall where they may. If being gay is an unhealthy result of psychological issues cause by social pressures, then it will naturally correct itself. That is a big IF.
  2. it only has the front and back cover and the datafile. none of the illustrations. at least as far as I could see. I'm thinking though, I could photograph them and remove the distortion with some clever photoshop manipulation.
  3. I heard this song on TBS radio and got sort of addicted to it. it really reminds me of akiba rangers.
  4. I don't have word, plus I think it would be best if we make it the best we can. If I put together the presentation in photoshop, I can be confident that it will be well put together and no extra junk code.
  5. no need for pm I think. all I would need is for the text to be placed onto a page like it is in the book, then saved as a psd file without merging the layers. it's really straightforward.
  6. I thought that might have been what occured but still, what do you think about making psd files for creation of a pdf?
  7. thanks durendal I don't know how but i was completely unaware that you had posted on the 4th of january. sorry for leaving you hanging there. Lost unit, I think we had this problem before.... how will you typeset a novel that is just words? lemme see.... I'm thinking it would be cool to make this into a pdf. that way, the text can be placed in pages and the images will go in among the text. so in this way, ... yes! actually, lost unit, typesetting this does make good sense, because i would need appropriately sized psd files to make the pdf! I wonder... is there some way I can get the images in a better quality. I don't want to crease the spine so scanning would be troublesome... maybe I would have to just bite the bullet...
  8. you're not wrong. I just listened to it. damn, they talk fast. They seem to be talking about alien and predator, perhaps some comparisons, maybe fan comparisons. but he talks about the contents being long. I don't know if that refers to the contents of the unit or the contents of the show. next part... he's talking about the beginnings and his own influences. he mentions space sheriff and metal hero. I have no idea what they are talking about next. he says something about writer, and movie and anime. by the way, I don't mean movie as in feature movie, I mean film/animation/show/movie. it's non specific use of teh word. next part, I believe he is talking about his working relationship with akiyama. next part, I think he is talking about how the story differs between manga and animation. something about our humanity and how it relates to becoming more powerful. nah, I'm struggling with this. can't really use a dictionary on spoken words.

I'm getting a little bit tired of this. Guyver Four, you are starting to come across as aggressive. The last thing I want is to become on bad terms with you. I hope you don't have any ill intentions towards us. the following page fully addresses the rights of a translator. the issue here is not the rights of the creator or if the work is authorised or not. everyone here is clear that the work is not authorised by the creator. everyone here is clear that we are not legally entitled to distribute the work that we do. however, you and somebody else keep saying that we do not have any right over our work. you are wrong. http://www.cblesius.co.uk/articles/CopyrightAndTheTranslator-WhoOwnsYourTranslations.html 1. The author of the translation is me or durendal therefore we own it. Now, we don't need to be flooded with multiple references to unrelated things. this article makes it very clear and is the first link in google for the terms 'translators copyright' . please don't drag this out any more and please don't bleed this issue into other areas of the forum.
  10. You are wrong. http://www.cblesius.co.uk/articles/CopyrightAndTheTranslator-WhoOwnsYourTranslations.html please do not start to turn multiple threads into a legal debate. it's enough that we have two already. it is making the site ugly. I will post this link in the spectrum thread so do not reply to it here. Aether, I would love to take a look at that video! I find the idea of translating from audio, quite exciting!
  11. which is why what we do now is to assign a code to each one. at least in our filing system we do. if you are in the habit of saving the files, you will see that this months guyver chapter is 1302. that is 2013, month 02. (it is the february issue)
  12. They don't have numbers until they are combined into the tankoubon. I think it was wrong of us to Assign numbers in the past because the chapters never correlated.
  13. I think if somebody took the time and effort to scan an image in, then they ought to be able to deter people from taking advantage of their effort in scanning the image. whatever watermark people wish to put on it is their choice, if they have a stake in it. That sounds like a fair proposition. IMO.
  14. Ideas really. artwork is not a problem, I can do that easily. although if somebody did want to do some artwork, there could be a collaboration going on. or if they came up with a piece that worked as a final design then we could go with it.
  15. nice, Japanese box cover I'd like to give my guidance concerning size. I think something around 2000 pixels wide is suitable. Size is not really an issue for the server, it's more a case of how quickly people can download them. I don't want to interfere with Lost Unit though, it's his project. whatever he says is best
  16. no, it certainly needs to be guyver related. just original art. i.e. not scanned or traced.
  17. sorry I phrased that wrong. I've edited my post to make sure my words make sense. I am thinking it needs to be simple, because i would want to use it throughout in a universal header. but of course it would also look nice large. additionally, it needs to be original art. I want to get some ideas though, so don't feel too restricted on what you think would be nice to see. I appreciate the input about the guyver unit. That is a good concept for a starting point.
  18. <p>What would a guyveradvocacy.org logo look like?</p> <p> </p> <p>the .org is merely a domain name that denotes that guyver advocacy is an organisation type of thing...</p> <p>so the logo would probably be 'guyver advocacy' in some kind of way.</p>

regardless of whether or not we are authorised to distribute our translation, it is still copyright to us. we are not work for hire, so our translation does not belong to Yoshiki Takaya. that is not to say, if he asked us to stop or to destroy our work, we would not listen to him. If I got an email from Yoshiki Takaya asking me to remove all of our work from this server, including translation texts, then I would do so. But it doesn't change the fact that I was not paid to do the translations I did, it is my own work and regardless of distribution rights, my work belongs to me. The articles you provided underline those facts. What I want to know is, what are you getting at, what was your specific point. I'm not going to contend that what we have been doing is not legitimate, it's not authorised. If I could get an email to Yoshiki Takaya, I would do so, but in the past when I tried, it was impossible. So all any of us could do, to read guyver, is to do it in an unauthorised way. otherwise, every person here is forced to learn Japanese. What we do is unauthorised, but what is the bigger issues here is the issues of right and wrong. two wrongs don't make a right for example. I don't really like having to address legal definitions of what is somebody's property etc. the fundamental basics of what copyright laws are supposed to be about, basically, what a person creates or works on producing is theirs and they decide what happens to it. if that person is unavailable to ask permission etc, then people need to work in a way that has that persons interests in mind. we do work and endeavour to look after yoshiki takayas best interests. that is our focus. that is our responsibility, to use what we do to try and benefit him. that is the spirit of copyright laws, and that is what we try and work by. after all ,what is copyright law for, if not to help the creator to profit from their creation? I don't want to profit from my translations. if that isn't clear by now, then I'll state it to make it clear. I want to take the work I do, that is my property, and any benefit that comes about from my work, should go to yoshiki takaya. That is my wish for my work. so if some other site takes my work and uses it for their own profit, I think i have a right to be upset about that. same goes for anyone else who contributes to the project.

so what are our options. we were going to carry on by doing a public html page form of translation. but obviously that will not work if people can just take that translation and typeset it anyway. we can go two ways. A) do a scanlation and only give it to people who we know and trust. B) do a scanlation with the intent to spread it as far and wide as we possibly can. I like Guyver, and I want to read it. Quite frankly, I can translate it myself and read it pretty well. Also, Durendal can read it just fine. He doesn't need to do any release. If people are going to treat us with such disdain as to steal our work etc. then we do not need to gift our skills to anyone. But of course there are many loyal fans who we know and trust. people who we would be happy to share with. I also like Yoshiki Takaya. I think he's a stand up guy who brings us a wonderful Manga most months. I don't want to screw him. Our original plan was to translate so that anyone with the manga can read it. If we had an ability to sell the tankoubon from this site, then we could provide a translation with the tankoubon. I'm not sure what format we could use but I think it could work well. We wouldn't be screwing Yoshiki Takaya because everyone who is given the work done by us, would be buying a tankoubon and the money would go to Yoshiki Takaya. I think this is a good concept. But right now, I am thinking mass publishing of our translations may not be the way to go. Guyver Four has brought up some excellent points here and that is partly my reasoning for thinking this way. Does it seem right to widely publish Yoshiki Takaya's work in a form that English speaking people can freely access it? or should we do it in a form where people are forced to actually purchase the original books. of course the latter is the best thing to do. the right thing to do. I welcome your feedback.
  21. Just remember my friend. God brings all things for a reason. Everything you have experienced is for a reason. Think carefully about what things have stood out to you the most. The things you have experienced in this time, what themes are the most important. What is god saying to you? You've been given a gift. It might not be easy to deal with, but it will mould your character so strongly. It will make you far stronger. I don't know what the right decision will be for you. Perhaps your indecision abut the art institute is something that is meant to keep you from going there and to be ready for something else that will become available to you? On the other hand, the indecision you are feeling could be a test of your convictions? Only you can know because only you can see the signs that god has left for you.
  22. it is no secret that if a dog is horny, he'll hump anything, including your leg. the fact is, sexual acts result in pleasure. what drives a creature to a sexual act? all manner of criteria. In my own view, many men who are considered homosexual, are merely gaining their sexual pleasure from men. why is it this way? could be a number of factors. could be genetic (although I do not think this is very common/likely) or psychological. my view is that it is more commonly due to the relationships between parent and child. but aside from this, societal pressure, results in many men or women who would normally be considered bisexual, identify as straight for fear of being judged etc. Roman soldiers used to 'lie' with each other all the time. personally, I find some men to be very attractive. does it go beyond the aesthetic appeal? no. I've explored my own feelings enough to know that I don't generally enjoy being that close to a man, whether he looks nice or not. hugging can be good. if you have a good friend, and he is very affectionate then you can have that kind of bro-mance. sort of like JD and Turk on the tv series 'scrubs'. due to societal pressure, it is something that a lot of men find difficult to approach but I think that is wrong. I think it's something a lot of men struggle with. but going back to whether or not I think it is something that is wrong or right, or if there is some form of sickness involved... I think it is something that is normal to start with, to seek this type of gratification. how much, and in what ways to seek this gratification, is then combined with self control and level of desire. I want to consider this question, and it is linked to a work of art I did a while back. NOTE : this link is NOT safe for work, I include it for academic purposes, this type of link is not normally OK. http://tremault5.deviantart.com/art/Which-do-you-162396482 The question is, if a person looks like a woman, moves like a woman, speaks like a woman, has the genitalia of a woman, but was born a man, then would a man having a relationship with her, make him gay? what if the genitalia were not even part of the equation? if the subject looks like a woman etc, but has a penis? is a man gay for going out with him/her? what if the subject looks like a man but has a vagina? It has to be mostly about perception and psychology in my view.
  23. I think if Shou bio-boosted on national television, Cronos would very quickly put about an elaborate plan to make this appear to be a publicity stunt using elaborate special effects. That's what I reckon.
  24. oh, what happened? it had archived it all and there was not a robots.txt file stopping any archiving back then. it seems the current registrar who have locked it down, have put a block on the history of it. that is a really shitty practice.
  25. well I didn't manage to sell it, both a blessing and a curse. while I do need the extra money, I am definitely glad to still have the book. we can continue with this if you want. I think though, in terms of pace, I think there would be more motivation for all of us if we did have the pages in english. I understand that it may seem like drudge work for you, it is perhaps more drudge work for me who has not the skill to read these words yet. but of course it is not so much hard work for me who simply photographs the pages. I think.. I would prefer it if we did work on this a bit at a time and get pages completed in english before continuing. because that way, I would feel like i am working alongside you, rather than just photographing the pages and then handing it over to you and forgetting about it. I think if we work on it together and finish each bit at a time, then we can support each other.
