ah ok, well i have not read the old testament, only the first part of genesis. I was advised to start at the gospel of john. I'm getting towards the end of that slowly, as i am working with a study partner. looking at what you wrote though, I think maybe i will read it soon.

when you say charles dickens, it makes me think that the language will be quite confusing. to brush up on modern english using charles dickens seems counter productive. since i don't know what area your work is in, I can't really recommend anything that could be relative to the work environment. would you be able to give us a clue? or would you rather not? no problem if not. when i was in school, there were certain books that we read in english class. perhaps this will be the best type of recommendation. the 2 i can remember are : "the lord of the flies" by William Golding. "Animal Farm" by George Orwell. george orwell also wrote "nineteen eighty four". I never read that, but it is of course a very famous book. edit: by the way, these are political satire so this persons children will probably not be interested in them.

it is probably to do with the company. I actually would expect a nintendo console to last a very long time. i have not really heard anything about faulty gamecubes or n64, etc. durendal, I am not sure about the warranty actually. I believe it is 3 year because of something i read. I don't know if it came with a warranty card. you are probably right, the shop probably had it on shelf for a long time. it was probably manufactured more than 8 months before i bought it. that is quite shocking really. how can they have it in storage for that long? wow. I am surprised that you can get any kind of warranty on a console that has been modified. I guess that marks a difference in culture.

it's a xbox360 so.. I play it on average between 2 - 5 hours a day. I bought it from woolworths in august 2007. actually thinking about it now.. if I bought it in aug 07, then my warranty should have lasted to aug 2010. when i put my serial number in the microsoft site it said my warranty was expired. I'm a bit pissed off at that.. it should have been in warranty and now i have opened it up so it's too late. assholes. yeah i remember that trick with the psx. the lens would drop down and would not focus. so turning it upside down or sideways lifted the lens against the disc.

additional: if you think those books might be troublesome to start with... really well written, easy and straightforward books would be the chronicles of narnia by c.s. lewis http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chronicles_of_Narnia these books are quite short, not overly complicated, straightforward and also tell a good story. my grandma read these books when recovering from a stroke.

wow, this is pretty honourable. so you are really taking on the role of this person's mentor. you're such a cool guy well I wouldn't want to confuse him/her, so I would recommend a book that I can find easy to read. with my dyslexia, reading can be a real pain for me at times and i lose interest, so I would think any book that i can read comfortably may be suitable. thanks for the additional information Youngguyver. that is very interesting. I had not heard that the hogs can smell the death. I guess that cannot be argued with really. that does make me think twice... but that is a digression. I agree that we can always learn new stuff from open minded individuals. we are lucky here that we are not closed minded, when what i am really getting at is the type of person who thinks they know it all when they obviously don't. it seems to me that their argument is an excuse rather than a well thought out decision. it seems to me that they are actually reacting from their own inability to deal with death and are creating a facade. I guess you can't blame a person after all, if they can't deal with death, acknowledging that might damage their self esteem. do you think that when a person is in this headspace, is it best to just be sympathetic?

the early models were, but i think the newer ones are pretty reliable. I'm no expert though. so anyway, i ju8st played a few missions on red faction. good stuff. well I think it works like this- when i looked at my gpu and heatsink, the connecting paste seemed to have melted all away from the important areas. so the connection was not good so the heat wasn't dissipating properly. so i moved all the goop onto the important areas and kinda mashed it about to try and even it up. when i put the heatsink back on, i guess that because the goop was cold, maybe it was still lumpy and not connecting properly. so i think that by doing the towel trick, wrapping a towel around to increase the internal heat, helped to melt the goopy stuff and make it connect to the heatsink properly. that's my thought. I could be wrong, but at least it worked. of course i am a little scared now that it may stop working again. I guess i can save up my money for a new one.

weeeeelllllll I did all that i could, and then closed it up again. switched it on and first thing - four red lights. so whatever i did, didn't stop it from freezing, it basically exacerbated the issue. ah so i think it is screwed. so I did the towel trick. now it works I wonder how long for though..... ah wells... I think i need to buy a new one just to make sure.

as a native english speaker, I do not think that is very clear. I would imagine some of the grammar used may be similar to the persons native tongue, which i guess would be your native tongue. so you will understand it, but as I am only fully accustomed to english grammar, it is quite confusing to me. I can guess at what it may mean,. but there are a number of possibilities. if I spoke with this person.. I would not object to his grammar. but I would feel slightly uneasy and lose confidence in the ability to communicate with him. I would feel very cautious about any business relations and would possibly refuse to make any important business decisions with him. personally, when dealing with subordinate, I like to focus on morale. I try to let them feel that they are doing well. I make a slight suggestion to see if they will take initiative and solve the problem them self. so if i found myself in a similar situation, I might try to make a scenario where this person will think about his own english ability and possibly make his own decision to improve. I think you have more experience than me in this area though.

i feel that's a little rude. I mean that's just my belief. you wrote your belief, i merely offered mine as a comparison. but well whatever, I'll just let it slide. no problem.

Yeah Salkafar, I understand completely what you're saying. but I guess i need to clarify on what exactly I meant. when I was comparing animals to plants it was because of the "ooh it's wonderful beautiful life" factor. plants and animals are no more or less alive than each other so when these hypocrites say we shouldn't eat it because it's 'the sanctity of life' that is what I object to. in regards to pain and fear, I would have to say that an animal being hunted by a predator in the wild is going to experience a lot of fear and pain and stress. an animal in a slaughter house is not feeling stress because they don't know what is going on. they get no more stress than any other move from a field to another field. then they are stunned so they don't feel any pain or stress. when they are killed they are not even conscious. it is the same as if you and I were just clonked on the head when we were totally unaware. it is the most humane death any animal could ever get and let's face it they ARE going to die, one way or another sooner or later. and the slaughter house is probably the least painful the least stressful. I can respect your beliefs salkafar. I will not attack anybodies personal beliefs or reasoning for their own choice. what bugs me is when a person believes they are somehow superior to others. they try and convince everyone that they are on the moral high ground and that everyone should listen to them. in a respectful fashion, I will convey my own belief in this subject. I believe that animals have consciousness, I believe plants have consciousness. I believe that it is a different form of consciousness. plants do have defence mechanisms. they have spines, poison etc. I believe that when eating something, it is through permission from the thing you are eating. if you eat an apple, it is a gift from the apple tree. if you eat meat, I believe it is a gift from the animal. you could compare to the beliefs of some native american culture. this is my belief though, I won't argue using this as basis.

now I have my xbox open. but i can't get at the x clamps because i need a T8 screwdriver head... the smallest i have is T10. hmm, so i have to wait. I think this system is really badly designed. there is so much space in the box. and i can't believe they would use such a standard DVD drive. there is smaller and more efficient DVD drive in the world. I guess it's a cost thing.

oh, brilliant! thank you dude. that is comforting. I am a little worried though. I got 4 lights on one occasion. but not 3. maybe this is generally the same issue? after all, it seems to be a problem with display. i read that 4 red lights means a problem with the display cable. but of course i already tried my brothers cable and that didn't fix it. so I thought it is more than likely to do with the display hardware. hmmm. maybe i can attempt this. it seems pretty straight forward. if i have trouble i can always get some help.
