So, I've been poking around YouTube lately looking for broadcasts from the Sci-Fi Channel (no, I will not use the current name, TYVM). One thing I've been looking for are promos from when the channel aired the live-action Guyver films. Lo and behold, I found something! Skip to the 3:04 mark, and you'll find them there!4 points

Dunno if this is new for anyone else but it was definitely new to me! Backstory; a little while ago I was doing a Guyver nostalgia deep dive (as y'do every so often) and came across a Japanese site that mentioned initial versions of episodes 7 and 8 of Act II that were recalled due to poor production quality and redone into the versions we know and... uh, know. I wasn't sure if they were anywhere online but lo and behold - here we are! Episode 7 Episode 8: Thoughts are as below, don't read if you wanna see for yourself first! - The opening sequence/theme is taken from the original six episodes with bits and pieces from Act II being windowed in, the ending credits keep Strange Angel Milestone with a piece of art I've never seen anywhere else. Kinda torn on this because I really enjoyed the original Act II ending song as well! - BGM cues vary throughout in different spots and IMO they're usually worse picks compared to the final versions. Episode 7 - Guyver 1 comes into the scene with less flair (no flip) but better still art when he's dramatically pointing. - The (much paler) Ramotith transformation/death isn't as detailed, same with the pressure cannon (though to be honest it actually works better) - The second Chronos operative gets straight up disintegrated by the sonic busters. Almost certainly done for budget reasons but still kinda awesome. - Murakami has brown hair in these two episodes. Neat. - Balcus' outfit is identical design-wise but has a much more eye-searing color palette in the recall episodes. Also, green forehead gem. - Sho and Agito have a face to face conversation about what (supposedly) happened to his dad instead of a phone call, nice touch. - The explanation about the Guyver's blast field is more elaborate in the recall, complete with visual representation. - The Ramotith that gets killed by Murakami is SSJ yellow. Interesting choice. - The scenes with Murakami shooting down the Zoanoids are differently animated. - Tetsuro does a full roll out of the van instead of stumbling out holding his head. Not sure if it's supposed to be funny, but it was. - The fake Mizuki's transformation/death is different and the way Sho's reaction is framed/voiced makes it clear he has absolutely no idea what's going on behind him despite being handcuffed to a Zoanoid that's now twice his size. Sho. Dude. Duuuuuuuude. - The end of the fight is IMO a lot better; instead of a poorly drawn/animated Sho running to lead them away, he kills a bunch more in a really anime sequence before blasting the rest of the frozen crowd (and not because of bad animation, this is very clearly 'crap, we're so screwed') with the Megasmasher - This is in both versions but Murakami effortlessly dodging Broize's strikes untransformed and without his mental powers is badass as all hell. Episode 8 - Before anything else; the entire Lost Numbers fight takes place in an open environment with much better lighting. This changes the feel of that portion immensely. - We get to see Fumio walked to the processing tank before the reveal. This combined with the altered music cues makes this sequence a lot less unsettling. - Murakami's explanation to Sho and Tetsuro comes on the same road as the final version but this one has an attempted Chronos roadblock/trap that Sho easily handles. Take note of him timing the sonic busters so the first Zoanoid dies riiiiiight after transforming. - There's an attempt in the recalled version at hiding Murakami's RX-7 under scattered foliage. The key word here is attempt. - We meet Onuma and Shizu waaaaay earlier in this one (Onuma looks close to his final version, Shizu has brown hair) along with a nice little touch of Murakami scanning them to make sure they're on the level. - Aptom and Somlum initially confront Sho in human form. - Zoanoid Somlum is bright red with almost no other colors/detail to break up his design. He also tries hit Sho with the glue twice in fifteen seconds and gets put on the ground twice in that same time, if he didn't have any backup there's a very real chance Sho might have just beaten him to death and gone on with his day. - Dyme locking Sho down is a lot worse looking in this version to say the least. - There's absolutely zero drama to Aptom's fake Guyver reveal. This is gonna to be a running trend for the rest of the episode, as you'll see shortly. - Sho breaking free actually has some pretty decent still art even if the animation is iffy. Also, the shot of the broken blade landing in the grass is kept in the redone episode, which explains why the lighting looked so off to me even as a kid; it didn't take place in the same location. - Murakami straight up blasts Somlum's head off in what has to the the lowlight of these two episodes. It needs to be seen to be believed. - When Murakami starts messing with Dyme, we visibly see him react thanks to a cutaway to his human form. - Aptom loses his arm to the sonic busters (that come out of Guyver 1's eyes, sure, why not) instead of the Zoanoid Buster and shows about as much reaction to that as Somlum's headshot. - And his reaction to Dyme getting killed off? A semi-threatening raise of his remaining arm and an even less threatening 'onore'. This is co-worker energy, folks. - Guyver 1 and 3 meeting up at the end has some animation differences and ends on a nice piece of artwork that I feel is better than what the final version had. Needless to say, it was super interesting getting to experience 'new' Guyver content in 2025! I can also see why these two episodes were recalled, even considering Act II's reputation for rough quality these ones didn't even meet that bar even if a few sequences were really cool in isolation. (And I guarantee you, as soon as this Aptom gained independence from Chronos he's bailing on the whole thing to retire somewhere).3 points

Looks like my silly prediction came true... new Figma releases for Guyver 3 and Gigantic Dark! And colored Guyver Giganitc! Also weirdly, Gigantic Darks eyes are colored... The only downside that a number of people have noticed, is that the scale of the Gigantic's seems to be off... When they showed the first proto-type, it was in scale... But now they seem to be similar in scale to what the BFC MAX line used. HOPFULLY it is just something weird about the pictures... But it is concerning. Also some new shots of the Titanomachina crossover with Guyver. Better shots of the arm blade design, which I am much happier with.3 points

Someone on the Guyver!! facebook group posted an image from this, which made me curious. Found more images and it clearly was inspired by Guyver... And it turns out, it was available on Book Walker... So I bought both volumes, and ripped them. Still completely raw in Japanese sadly. "A clan of monsters that have existed since the Asuka period and protects the emperor from evil beasts called "monsters". Until now, they have continued to secretly fight fierce battles with monsters. The demonic beasts that resisted the Youbu clan evolved by absorbing human knowledge, and some of the demonic beasts that acquired cunning created an organization called the Grudges and tried to take over the human world. A battle for the fate of two races, humans and beasts. What is in its path...?" I uploaded it to my Megadrive if anyone is interested. https://mega.nz/file/CoswRYbK#7icdS0_A6dYci6-dG3O8u6mrr0CrPGA15GbrIi3xu1s It is a short little manga published back in 1992, probably trying to build off of the popularity of Guyver (and similar series) at the time... And it really shares a lot in common with Guyver... - There is an Evil Organization, with a fancy dressed Leader like Archanphel, with transforming henchmen in suits and shades. Though from the description of the series, they are Demons/Monsters rather than upgraded humans. - The hero seems to be quite strong as a human. Definitely above human power. Might not fully be human so he doesn't always use the armor... but the armor is summoned by a bracelet the human has. - The armor seems to be a separate living creature that can fight on its own and is about the size of the Gigantic. Seems to be beast like in fighting when by itself. - The main human can enter the armor and take control, but it is more like being in a mech suit rather than fully bonded like the Guyver. - The armor has a laser sword on its arms, can shot a black ball of energy, and can shoot a powerful large beam, but from its hands, more similar to a Kamehameha from Dragonball. The suit can fly from rockets in its legs. - The suit can also grow to a larger size... Not quite the same size as Gigantic Exceed. Looks to be maybe closer to 30-35 meters. The human stands on its shoulder and issues commands from there. - There is a "Cool Guy" character that helps the main character with fancy shades and a large scar on one side of his face. He uses a long katana like sword instead of a sweet hand cannon revolver. He is very strong and can transform his arms and legs into armored forms. So kind of a Murakami/Aptom hybrid character. - There is a second suit of armor of a darker color. It looks pretty identical unfortunately, but might be some minor differences I missed. The alternate cover suggests it might be green instead of a black like color like it appears in the comic. It is used by the bad guy (Archanphel like guy, who is already super strong), but seems to have been once owned by the main characters... Brother? Hard to say since it is untranslated. - Much more silly moments than the Guyver and a slight bit more random ecchi level nudity.3 points

That Dark Hero mystery prototype looks great. So nice to see all the details of the suit so clearly. Here's some other pics I found on twitter of Smile Fest, including some better shots of Takaya's and Max Watanabe's words. That last board with text talks about the publishing of the old vinyl BFC line and various photos that were taken to re-create scenes from the manga. I wonder where those images were originally published. You can use Google Lens to get some very rough translations of various captions which is pretty fun!3 points

Slight update: They actually finally replied on my Facebook group. There have been some delays due to various things, but they are about 95% done they said. still couldn't give a release date, but they are still working on it.3 points

From the Guyver Midnight FB page: "34-page script and 34 days to go before we begin principal photography on “Guyver: Genesis” Our team has been planning every single detail and we’re working with some absolutely incredible collaborators. To everyone who helped make this possible, thank you—we are looking forward to the bright future of this series."2 points

As a side note, although the animation quality dipped in the second half of the OVA series, it saved the best till last. OVA 12 had my favourite art style probably in the entire series. It's a pity that we never got to see more of that animation. Although the OVA continuity had steered too far from the manga that I don't know how they would've continued the plot. If Aptom had survived, they would've had to completely rewrite his attack on Chronos, as Team Five were already dead in that timeline. Not that I think there was any intention to carry on the OVAs anyway.2 points

I had no idea that these existed. Great find! Sorry that I'm the first one to respond, but this place is a ghost town since the series went on permanent hiatus. My first reaction was "Wait... There's a way to watch OVAs 7 & 8 with worse animation!?" 🤣 I agree with you there's some touches that OVA 7 does better than final. I wouldn't necessarily say that first version is better animated, I think it's less ambitious, using close-ups and still frames to cover up the lack of budget. The sequence of the Zoanoids chasing Sho through the water in the final version looked bad, but it was more dynamic than a bunch of static Zoanoids waiting for the Mega Smasher. As for OVA 8, the best thing I can say is that it doesn't have the glaring continuity errors of the final version! Thank you for sharing these!2 points

I completely missed it, and just had it pointed out... That Steve Wang noted in the Guyver Geek interview he did about 4 months ago that Max factory was doing it... I can't believe I missed that.2 points

Yeah, unfortunately Figma's being delayed is almost a 50-50 chance. This likely being a special edition as well ( since 2025 is the 40th anniversary) the chances are probably higher... I'll be buying 2, like I did with Guyver 1... Unless they announce a certain red colored EX figure to be released at the same time... I would just get one of each then, as that is getting too high in cost by that point for me.2 points

I think we'll see more in the Jan/feb Winter Wonderfest, with probably a late 2025 for a release date... This is all going by how long it took the new Guyver 1 figma to go from uncolored prototype to release.2 points

Figma Guyver Gigantic is a literal dream come true. I'm expecting 200 USD for the price. But it'll be worth it, hopefully it won't be too long till release.2 points

The Guyver parts do look neat, as they are robotic in nature, not just straight design copied over... But about 80% if the figure is just their standard "Gale Hound" base figure (Head, chest and parts to add arm blades). It's a pretty lazy collaberation... One I probably won't be taking part in. It's more like a "character" in the Titanomakia universe of story are fans of Guyver and customized their suits that way.2 points

So in the two live action films, it's shown that the Guyver armor is stored in the body. You see the tendrils come through the receivers on Sean's neck several times. I've always noticed this, but wondered why. Does anyone know, or at least suspect why? Was it simply an artistic liberty, or perhaps done for budgetary reasons? Since I'm sure trying the flashy transformation sequence from the anime would be too costly.1 point

Nope, Agito was watching the fight and remarked that Sho's death was part of his preparations: Just because Agito's plan worked in service of the narrative, doesn't mean that it makes sense internally. You've got a potential ally in Sho/Guyver I, who you have now aided and abetted in the death of, and gifted the control metal to your sworn enemies. If the plan was just for Sho to infiltrate Chronos Japan, I'm sure there were less riskier gambits than this.1 point
