here is a 4 minute preview of The Amazing Spider-man

my first impressions, I like it a lot and my expectations are high on this one. Looks like that Andrew is doing a better job at portraying Peter Parker than Tobey ever could, Tobey did the generic quiet nerd role with a very low tone no confidence even as spider-man while Andrew does a more confident, wisecracking, obnoxious, cocky nerd which is what the real Peter Parker/Spider-man is and most importantly and here is what Raimi failed in his movies, in the old movies Raimi did a nifty thing by giving him organic webbing which is pretty awesome but by doing this and not using web shooter he forgot to enforce one of peters characteristics which is Peter is a Genius Scientist!! the web shooters makes you the viewer know that peter is a very intelligent person in order to come up with an invention like that. now in the raimi movies you know he is intelligent because he talks technobable and aces his tests, big deal, you have to SHOW how smart he is and in this new film it is showing it very nicely and with the lizard I am sure that Peter will come up with a formula in order to revert him back to his human self.

agreed. those movies didn't portray spiderman as how i remember him.

spiderman was awesome but i lost interest in it for a long time.

I love hos he moves in this, and how he reacts. "you found out my weakness!" ha ha ha.

I will really look forward to this and i think another film I wish to view in the cinema.

Ok.... so i saw the movie and was like...... frikkin awesome!

As far as im concerned spidey/peter was perfect, conners/lizard was perfect!

Spideys wisecracking humor waz present and thankfully so. still the movie has a serious tone to it but it was still good.

Lets see... What else.... i did like how they dropped hints here and there that im hoping will bare fruit in future movies.

I liked the look of it, but the advert they keep showing on tv really put me off.

it makes it look like any other generic action movie. dark night-time city and all of that.

I got really bored with the idea of watching it and can't help but think i would be wasting my money.

Saw it tonight. Pretty damn awesome! I loved it.

Only problems I had with it were:

- Lizard not having a snout.

- The soldiers who were mutated into lizards, but did nothing but revert back to their human form at the end.

- Peter and Gwen instantly making a cure.

Can't say that I liked it. At all.

There was just way too many plot points that seemed rushed ( like Gwen just magically falling for Peter after he humiliated Flash. So she likes Jerks?), and it wasn't nearly as entertaining as the first Sam Raimi film.

Yes, I know if was supposed to be a more "Real" and "modern" take on the idea ( or "Darker" than the Raimi film)... But I did not like Peter at all. I just found his personality unlikable. As well, they barely played up his nerdyness at all... Until the one scene at Oscorp. Tobey Maguires Peter was more believable as a nerd, and it showed when he talked to Norman Osborn early in the film when he was with Harry at school. This had none of that. Even later when he is making his web shooters... He didn't design the formula for the webs... He stole the catriges from Oscorp ( then later claims that he made them to the car thief).

What's sad is, for the most part, I liked the actors in the roles they were given... But the way they were directed and how they were supposed to act, was my problem. Although the casting for Uncle Ben and Aunt May were WAAAAAY overdone. ( And is it wrong I kinda wanted Peter to hook up with that nerdy girl? I thought she was way too cute and they showed her way to often to just throw her aside)

They also needed another villian in the movie. The Lizard, although great for fighting Spider-Man, was a big enough villian for his own movie. They foreshadowed that Norman Osborn was dying and was trying to force him to rush the project... But once he became the Lizard, him being evil minded just didn't seem right. Especially for a man who was willing to say "No" to the great Norman Osborn's lackey ( even after knowing what happened to Peter's parents).

I also really hated this movies "You mess with one New Yorker, you mess with us all" moment. IE, the citizens recongnizing Spider-Man as a Hero, rather than a menace... There are so many ways to do that, but they picked one of the cheesiest ways to "Help" Spider-Man. That was something I wish they would have not taken from the Sam Raimi film.

The Amazing Spider-Man unfortunately has the hinderence of being compaired to the first movie, which was something that came out in a time where no one thought Superhero movies were ever going to be good. And it turns out, it was. Even by today's standards... And The Amazing Spider-Man (IMO) just could not fill it's shoes.

Knowing already that there will be a sequel, here's to hoping that it will be more coherant and more likable now that the gloomy origin story is out of the way.

i agree on the lizard, he looks alot like killer crock. but he still came across good.

however i have to disagree on you view of peter and lizard. like mr taco said, he's always a wisecrack. hes a jerk. its true. he even got into a fist fight with flash once. they got into a boxing ring and peter mopped the floor with him. once he got bitten he got BOLD! haha. so i have no problem with how he treated flash in the gym.

but not only that he was always viewed and antisocial and snobbish by his other classmates(true it was because he had so much stuff on his mind he didnt know he was ignoring everyone). so as far as him being a jerk is concerned, its good.

now as for the lizard. besides the snout hes perfect. a freakin evil genius who wanted to to turn the planet into lizardmen. thats how he was in the comics. that and eventually wanting to be left alone.

im not sure if its well known, so i apologize if im wasting time here,

but the lizard is a different personality than conners. he's a more instinctual and aggressive primal version of conners. kinda like banner and hulk.

i totally agree with the webspinners. that was kinda a let down, but you did get to see him modify the shooters for his costume.

as for him not being nerdy, he was very smart in this film. there were several times in the movie where he showed his intellect, in the basement of his home with uncle ben, talking about that fish thing for genetic crossbreeds at oscorp, again, modifying the webshooters, he even helped conners with the formula even after he gave him the equation his dad developed.

i agree on the newyorker dilema. it was too... easy. cool to look at, but way to convienent. (or however you spell it)

i know lots of people liked the sam raini films but they did not do spiderman justice and took toomany liberties.

I LOVED this movie!

It was not completely dark and brooding, but emotionally conveying how you would react to certain situation appropriately. It's dark when Uncle Ben dies, but romantic when Peter and Gwen are flirting. And they actually have fight scenes in daylight! I wouldn't call this movie dark, but rather serious. Raimi's version had cheese, especially with William Dafoe. This movie has well placed humor that is appropriate.

It's a 3 hour movie, and was surprised to discover this when walking out of the theater, I had no idea. Everything was paced and developed perfectly.

Flash is a bully to everyone, Peter does the descent thing and stands up to him (getting beaten up for it), and Gwen gets a little closer to him out of respect. Their relationship developed throughout the whole movie. Everything developed and evolved. I even loved Denis Leary as Captain Stacy

As they say, better late than never. I just saw this movie the other day, and I must say, I'm quite satisfied with how Peter Parker was portrayed. Although I was a little disappointed at how Peter "lost" his uncle ben. I felt that it wasn't powerful enough set him straight. Still, I was happy at how it was presented.

So.... is Marvel still Pro-Gwen or Pro-Mary Jane? Haven't been ready much of the spidey comics lately and I'm afraid I'm no longer up to date with his status.

I've never been a diehard Spiderman fan so my opinion is that of someone who watched the original trilogy and this film simply as they are. i personally found it to be very enjoyable.

Peter Parker under the guise of Spiderman was actually quite charming, I liked his wise-ass humor. Although I couldn't relate to him as Peter Parker as much as i could when Maguire played him because he was a lot cooler looking. more intelligent, and less just nerdy. but i think it was indeed a very well paced film; pretty exciting scenes with the Lizard Doc

i don't know if i liked it more than the other version, i've watched that one more times than i can count because i happen to really like that film too.

Took me a little while to warm up to the movie, but I absolutely loved it in the end! I honestly hope that they do not mess it up in the sequel by killing Gwen. I really hope Peter winds up with her instead. I also preferred Andrew Garfield's portrayal of Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Everything just came into place perfectly with him. With Toby Maguire's performance I felt that Spider-Man was castrated. He lacked the wit and wise cracking humor that Spidey is well known for.

But Gwen HAS to die. She died in the comics, she should die at some point here. That is one more lesson in Peter's life. She is his first love. You never forget your first, but in real life the first doesn't always last. I have no problem with him finding MJ later on, just so long as the actress doesn't look stoned while playing her

Nothing is set in stone with film adaptions. Almost anything can happen. Peter can learn life's harsh lessons some other way. Kill aunt May for all I care, but keep Gwen alive! I am sorry but I have and probably never will be a Mary Jane fan. It really is nothing personal. I just preferred Gwen as a character. The chemistry between the two characters in The Amazing Spider-Mad was perfect. I just wish they would have spent just a tiny bit more time building up the two before slamming them together so fast. Maybe give some back story on how long Peter liked Gwen and such. Maybe tell us how long they have known each other exactly so we can put together a timeline of their feelings for each other coming to fruition. I am very BIG on proper character development. That is why I LOVE long novels. I love spending time to get to know the main cast before all the action and drama hits. I like them to be fleshed out and become three dimensional. What really impressed me about The Amazing Spider-Man is how human all the characters feel. I could actually relate with most of them. I am not saying that the movie did not have it's faults, I am just saying it is one of the better super hero movies to come out this year. I am very much looking forward to the coming sequels. It would be interesting to see how this new franchise will differ from past films and the comics. I really hope they come up with some new and fascinating ideas while still keeping the spirit and integrity of the characters.

IMO the movie trailers really killed this movie.

it probably would have done much better if the trailers were better.

i saw some clips of this movie on tv, and what i recall seems very attractive.

I think this is the same thing they do for a lot of movies.

I also saw a tv trailer for the twilight film.

I saw the cinematic trailers for it and it looks like a pile of trash. just some punks running about in the woods.

but the tv trailer showed dialogue and character interaction and scenes in houses etc. looked a bit more interesting.

I wonder if this spiderman film is a lot better than the trailers made it look?

well you guys seem to like it so that must be the case.

You still havn't seen it? Interesting.

Yes, I definitely agree with you Krucifer on character development, and actual story telling. Whole heartedly. But on the flip side, I hate when adaptations just start changing things willy nilly. What then is the point of doing a movie of it? Is Spiderman just a name, costume, and powers that can be applied to any story? Or do certain things have to happen in that legend?

Gwen's death was tragic, but Peter eventually did move on. And he was married, and for a time that was the only thing in his life that he had going for him. When Todd McFarlane had him, he gave Peter and MJ a happy marriage (with elements from Todd's own marriage) to show that life doesn't have to suck completely. There was happiness in there for him. Complete with piggy back rides, and silly fun of a couple that could love each other.

I watched this movie 3 times in the theater so you guys can guess what i thought of it but just for the sake of discussion and after giving it some time to think about it I will give my thoughts about the movie.

The movie is not by all means perfect but to me it is a great adaptation of the Spider-Man comics, some people dislike this movie and some even hate as much as to the point of comparing it to twilight of all things (one of them is even a review guy that i tend to watch a lot) and probably those people are guys that have been reading spider-man since the beginning who are extremely bias on how a superhero adaptation should be but I'm getting off topic. My opinion is that it is a great adaptation and it stands on its own merit and as well a comparison against the Raimi films. I still love the Raimi films but they are not a perfect representation of what spider-man is, the morals are there and the costume is accurate but the character himself is not represented well, Toby spidey does not have the charm that garfield spidey has, garfield in the movie acts like a teenager, he makes mistakes and he is impatient and this leads to consequences, as spider-man he makes jokes and he is a smart ass HE IS SPIDER-Man, something that Tobey was missing in his performance, other people are also comparing the film to Batman begins due to the nature of why Peter becomes spidey instead of trying to make a profit with his powers and frankly that is not a bad thing, they are taking liberties to try something different since the talked scenario was already done and frankly if you are just going to do the same script then I will just stick to the original.

Now like I said the movie is not perfect, it has 1 or 2 inconsistencies here and there but it is not something that will take you away from the experience, they are just laughable at best but it could have been worse. I fell in love with Emma Stone (again) she does Gwen's role perfectly and she is not the typical damsel in distress like Dunst's Mary Jane was (who i swear can only speak in screams) in fact Gwen is not a Damsel in distress at all, she is badass in this movie. the weakest character may be the lizard cause they took something that his character sorely needed to be interesting and that was his family, without that his motivations are pretty weak but even so i still enjoyed the movie, ppl say that the "Great Responsibility" line is not in the movie but the thing is that it is there just hidden through what Ben was talking to Peter, he did not say the exact words but he did say it. Overall the movie was a great MODERN take on Spider-Man as opposed to Raimi's 60's Superhero meets modern times campy adaptation but I will leave you guys to decide since after all, opinions vary on the taste of each person and this movie is proof of it.
