  1. ironically 'abnormal' sounds a bit....normal, if you catch my drift? how about 'anomalous' or 'anomaly' . i think that sums the Guyver unit and the situation that got it its name up well. it was an anomaly to the creators the way it interacted with the human, so anomolous/anaomaly describes that.
  2. i appreciate how difficult it must be in translating, but i think in some instances it is better to go for literal meanings, i think the only problem with being too literal with translations is with sentence structure as it can not flow properly sometimes. it all depends what is being discussed and in what instance, so for something as important as the translation of Guyver it should have more thought than what Chuang Yi put in! i mean we can all agree that 'warrior from beyond' is just balls. anyway in this instance i too like 'Out of control'Dave, but as an interpretation of the actual words we are given im not so sure. its 'Control' that is the problem. its kind of different than what is being said. Ryuki i think 'Abberation' would probably be the most accurate english word BUT i think 'Non Standard' like i explained before does make sense. coincidentally i went into my Guyver music collection folder today and noticed that the album for the original OAV 'Out Of Control' is labeled as 'Unit Guyver - Out Of Standardrized' (spelt incorrect) so we have a negative (out of i.e not in/ not of/ not) then 'standard'. so to me that kind of re-enforces the original translation. i'll think about it a bit more but i reckon im O.K with the original... or you could simply cover both angles and just change it so Risker says '' in their language it means ''Non Standard'' or ''Abberation'' ''.
  3. #2 - VIZ - Mysterious! - Chuang Yi - Chronos, The Secret Organisation - Advocacy - Puzzle of the Secret Society of Cronos Risker doesnt seem as willing to activate G2 as in the OAV!! in the manga he is attacked and in the OAV he's gung ho for some tentacle action. here we first see Agito Makashima lurking about. hmm.. whats he doing there?.... differences in translations here.... Viz goes with the Guyver meaning - ''Beyond the Norm'' in the language of the 'creators' Chuang Yi makes a complete mess of these two pages where they dont even mention the creators or the meaning of Guyver - the most you could say is that they translate it as 'fighting machine' or 'warrior from beyond' Advocacy translates it by saying in ''their'' language it means ''Non-Standard'' I like Viz's phrasing here as they mention the Creators and ''beyond'' normal implies that it is further than they excpected, which as we now know is correct, because the reaction they got from the mix of the Boost organism and humans was 'beyond' normal. 'Non Standard' works more or less the same, as it's saying the result of the fusion was not the usual standard , not excpected , not normal. it my not convey the exact same as Viz's, but it retains the slightly odd japanese way of phrasing and knowing the Advocacy this will probably be the literal translation from japanese, which is all good. Unfortunately Chuang Yi's effort is just crap.
  4. well its late but here's one for you! i think it's good work. i especially like the glowing effect of the guyver metal and Murakami's head. the second page is my favourite, probably because Guyver is on it!
  5. Thanks dude dont worry there's more to come soon! its interesting that ''Cronos'' was a bit of an error! I think its OK because its a mix of the 2 accepted ways of spelling Kronos/Cronus... and like you said it would be a hell of a task to correct it now at least its more accurate than Chronos! To leave room so that hopefully other people can comment, i'll start a new thread for each chapter i'd like to comment on, that way it wont get all muddled into one and hard to navigate.
  6. oh well i dont think anything will ever be efficent enough until Takaya finishes the story then hits us off with an encyclopedic volume of 'how the world of Guyver works' !! (here's hoping!) yeah i kind of have disregarded some of the stuff discussed before, like the idea of a bioboost mitochondria ( for the end theory of mine from that discussion look at my last post here... IF you like ) i think maybe i got carried away with the initial boosting rather than post 1st boost boosting! i was more interested in the hardening/ hardness of the boost organism really and then i went on a tangent with it attaching to and infiltrating the body. I do like the hippo analogy, as they must have some softer spots somewhere but it will still be there 'skin'. you would think that the tendrils would be an obvious target but they must have some kind of resistive strength? the last chopping off of limbs was in book 28 and it was clean slices through G3's armour and tendrils.... thinking about it not a lot of Tendril is exposed anyway, only the inner thighs, some of the abdomen and biceps are really exposed. apart from the parts on the head and neck/shoulder area the other places are natural joint articulation places so cant be as protected anyway.... followiing the human structure the way it has has got to be the boost organisms most efficent 'shell' to protect itself (and the host).
  7. so obsessed i drew pictures!!
  8. forgive the long post but ... While rereading the first chapter ( http://www.japan-leg...5036#entry75036) heres something ive only just kind of noticed, or maybe not thought about that much before, or have just plain forgotten becaue its been so long.... When the Guyver organism first interacts with Sho it ejects from the casing and is 100% tendrills and the Control Metal, then some parts of it solidify and then the 'armour' is formed... this makes me think that all the armour is just solidified organism, erm... like if our skin was the tendrils and the soles of our feet were the armour i.e same substance just harder. For some reason i had always thought that the armour and tendrils were seperate bits of the same thing like a snail and its shell. i think this is because of what the unit - G looks like when it is in its original state - however in oav 2 we see the casing disintergrate altogether and again its is just tendrills that end up forming into the armour parts.. its never really made 100% sense to me, apart from artistic license, as to why Takaya draws the armour appearing seemingly by itself sometimes rather than the armour and all the tendrils. sometimes they seem like seperate entities almost, sometimes theres only a suggestion of them., maybe he just can not be bothered to draw them?? this made me question if Takaya had kind of contradicted himself in the way that the armour is already formed before the tendrils have touched sho. i mean if the armour effectively becomes Sho's skin how can it form before its on him - how does it fuse with him??...so... even though it might be obvious ive never seen anyone articulate it this way i dont think, and if they have and this is old and obvious i apologise but lets go over it anyway!!... i think now that each part of armour has tendrils that live inside and are attached to that bit of armour and just extend outwards, so really Sho is covered by a complex of guyver organism ''squids''/ ''Snails'' (?) , that then manipulate his cells, and his organs and skeleton once landing on him from the boost dimension. which makes me think that the tendrils go 'inside' of show every time he biosboosts... and by this im thinking that the Tendrils grow to miniscule tendrils the same as ganglions or neurons that are part of a nervous system or brain. so they would penetrate the skin pours and grow smaller and smaller until it has a system that interacts with each cell down to the mesenger RNA telling his DNA how to restructure his body to accomodate / become the Guyver .... what do you reckon???
  9. Right, what the heck am i doing???? Quite simply i am going back to the beginning of Guyver and i am going to re-read and re-watch everything because ive forgotten a lot and its just unacceptable!! i was going to review and share my opinions / observations on the manga, oav and TV series all at once, but i think its a bit much so the main focus will be the manga. Feel free to comment on anything i comment on! or if you reread the chapter aswell or remember anything else, tell us if i missed anything or just share your own opinion. lets talk about Guyver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #1 MANGA - VIZ - ''Awesome!'' - Chuang Yi - '' The Bio-Booster Armour'' - Advocacy ''Arrival! The Bioboost Armor Miracle!!'' So it all begins here! Wow. is this possibly one of the greatest first chapters of a manga / anime ever?? i say this because everything is executed so concisely and seamlessly. when you think about how the story expands from this beginning point it is quite perfect. we get just the right amount of everything, character introduction, basic story and action aswell. we are left short of nothing. earlier in the year on the board it was asked is Takaya a genius? i think in this case looking at this as an intro to a 30+ volume saga i would say hell yes! Takaya's style / skill has improved much since these early volumes but his potential is there. The design of the Guyver is genius within itself anyway. translation differences.... Viz - Chronos Chuang Yi - Chronos Advocacy - Cronos i am assuming here that Advocacy has gone with Cronos because Cronus / Kronos was a 1st generation Titan (offspring of the earth god and sky godess in Greek myth) which makes sense in the context of the rest of the story. Viz and chuang Yi got it wrong and went with the primal deity father of time Chronos. for more discussion sparked by chapter 1 see - Boost Organisms Armour state and interaction with Humans @
  10. yeah its not really a choice. i couldnt stand more than a few more PR eps they are too eratic and sickly. i agree with your points. also if its for adults a good majority of it has usually got swearing sex and ultra violence in it. It makes me think is there that much produced inbetween the two?? probably Garo is a good example...even though Garo is meant to be for a mature audience its still nothing compared to a lot of the shows on HBO in the USA (i think thats the station in America with a good amount of filth on it). in fact the only thing that makes Garo 'mature' is the fact it was shown late, it has a very slight creepiness to it and you see 2 pairs of breasts throughout the (1st) series (typical me not seen S2 yet). Garo is popular you should watch it, it really isnt as noire as you would think! and Dekaranger is poplular you shoud watch that too !! ha ha! as for whats current or popular it doesnt bother me, as im sure you've guessed, but seeing as im inbetween series (watch out for another pointless Sentai review!) i might catch up with Go-Busters and will probably give the New Kamen Rider series a go.
  11. i dont do facebook, twitter etc. never been much of a social animal and the people i do know know where to find me, ive just never got into it online. This is the only online community i visit to be a part of. like you said Ryuki its a bit vacant now, but i still pop in regardless. other time online that i would class as wasting time is looking for manga, TV shows and action figures that i cant afford, where as worthwhile stuff would be searching for stuff be it info / research or searching for physical books to buy for more info on particular subjects that i care about. i find the internet can be a vacum sucking up time unless you have a clear plan of what youre doing on it, so i try not to go on it if unnecessary, sure ive come across some great stuff in the past while having my time sucked away - but to be honest i can't be bothered anymore.
  12. great stuff, Thanks dude!
  13. Back to a topic that i started a while back MMPR vs Super Sentai - who wins ?? so thanks to a few episodes i had seen before and after watching Dekaranger i thought 'hey why not watch all of S.P.D'?? so i did... Now i remember reading in certain places that people felt that S.P.D was good, even better than Dekaranger!.... now all i can say to that is Bullshit!!! Dont get me wrong S.P.D is quite good but its execution just lacks a quality that Dekaranger has. S.P.D uses most of its stories adapted form Dekaranger and even when they are almost copied exaclty the execution just lacks something. i cant put my finger on it but it seems like its all done too fast, one thing happens then another then another and its over, its like theres a bit of development along the way that gets cut out. speaking of development there is zero character development apart for Dekared and DekaBlue's counterpat Jack and Sky... and even then its only the basics of the characters rivalry / friendship in Dekaranger. Its been said there isnt much character development in Dekaranger but there is some throughout the entirity of the series and its done well to fit with the pace and world of Dekaranger and it happens for all the characters. Ah, speaking of all the characters!! WTF happenend to DekaBreak a.k.a Omega Ranger?? he was cool in Dekarangers, we actualy got to see his face and he was an actual character, not so in S.P.D though, more of an afterthought really. one thing that really peeves me about MMPR, which i think stems from the original series is the constant heeyah and yaaa! all the bloody time! they do anything while suited up and its accompinied by a heeyah or yaa!!! O.K,O.k we get it ! also S.P.D makes Dekaranger look like it should be called Special Execution Squad Dekaranger because none of the villains ever get killed in S.P.D whereas in Dekaranger thay get blown to bits!!!! dont get me wrong, its all good to try and rehabilitate criminals, but it gets a bit of a joke when they are firing a massive cannon at something and it ends in a spinning card with someone trapped in it!!! now some positives... I think they did well by adding another villian (or 2??) into the mix which made it less look like a complete butchering of Dekaranger, and less boring for someone who's seen Dekaranger to watch. I think that what sets S.P.D apart from Dekarangers for the good is the hand to hand action which was shot specifically for S.P.D, a lot of which was when the rangers were not Morphed. Truly the Wu Shu (martial arts) team on S.P.D were insane, in some episodes its total overkill of spins, flips, quadruple kicks, high wire leaps etc. but i Freakin love that stuff!! and as such made it worth watching just for that!! funniest of al of that was watching for the wigs of the wu shu team and them constantly covering their faces so you couldnt see the performer!! ive mentioned before that if i would reccomend S.P.D to anyone for just 1 episode it would be ep 31 'History' a crossover with the Abaranger rangers 'Dino Thunder' team. Man that is one intense episode of fighting. cool. Anyway no offense to MMPR fans but S.P.D really can't match up to Dekarangers, it was OK but pales in comparison. i wont be going out of my way to watch any other adaptation in its entirity again, i think i'll stick to Super Sentai.
  14. Ryuki, thanks for the explanation on the 'nyan'... i havent read the entire thread so i might have missed something but from what i have read if he is serious i get it like i explained above, however it does seem a litttle OTT and taken to the Nth degree to be 100% serious. if it is tongue in cheek fair enough but there must still be some grain of actual ' worship' or reverence in there, i.e he thinks she's hot! otherwise why bother?? i dont know, who knows?? it is kind of an anomalous thread on the JL board but i dont think it does any harm - especially now i know its got metaphysical type stuff in it! i guess the only way we will know is if the man himself gives a full explanation...but maybe its best he doesnt- just to keep the mystery going! come to think of it , does he even post anywhere else except in the Yui Ichikawa thread??
  15. in all honesty in the 4 1/2 years ive been visiting Japan Legend ive never looked at the thread properly. i looked at it once i think and saw it was only pictures of - forgive me harry capstan - just 'some japanese bird', and so i never returned to it , because thats not why i visit here. now that i have actually looked at and READ the thread i will say that i do like the comments that Harry Capstan puts with the pictures. i understand the concept of his expression for the divinity of Yui Ichikawa( but dont understand why he calls her Yuiyan ?) the way i see it is that you could put any picture of any female here and it would be a representation of the physical manifestation of the divine, or possibly a representation of the archetype of the mother goddesss from which the universe arose, as really that would be no different to the worship of Mary mother of Jesus for that is what she is, an archetype symbol. (although you don't tend to see pictures of her in a bikini ). In this case though you cant help feel its slightly skewed by the personal preference that Harry Capstan has from inside his pants towards Yui Ichikawa, but its his thread so thats his choice. Only problem is it is an objectification of a single woman not neccessarily for any qualities she has actually displayed in a tangible way but only for her tangible physical beauty -which you could argue is or isnt enough-, point being if she was some old hag with wrinkles and hairy warts would Harry be worshipping her?? probably not, but who cares, i think the only ones who would have a problem with this would be women who cannot get there head around the concept of the symbolism of this... Fair enough the running metaphysical commentary might just be a clever exscuse to post pictures of a scantily clad japanese girl, but without the commentaries it would just be a thread for dudes to go phwoar! check her out!! - not that theres a gargantuan lot wrong with that (some women might not agree but they dont have a second brain in their pants to contend with) so i think the commentary in some way brings it closer to actually being art, because it gives a concept to the reason for posting the pictures. In conclusion i see it as a uniting of the two brains of Harry Capstan into an intergrated whole!.
  16. It is dissapointing that nothing has been announced so far. i dont understand these companies who churn out such crap for anime /manga franchises ive never heard of and that look terrible. i wonder who buys the molded plastic turds that they call figures??... i just hope that they are not going to wait for some marketing point to come along and help the cause, i.e another TV series or the end of the manga, as either may or may not happen anytime soon, if at all. i would love to see another tv series ( but think it wouldn't happen without the end of the series) and i would like to know how Takaya will finish the story but i also dont want it to end!!! bah!! they should have just released Arcanfel 5 years ago!
  17. do you mean the outer ring metal? as the middle part is the original CM isn't it?? I'd say if it was just the gigantic part of the metal then yeah, the gigantc armour would probably just retreat into the chrysalis, and if the metal was damaged it could potentially leave Sho or Agito with no Gigantic Armour anymore
  18. oh dear this reminds me i havent watched either of the KR series i aquired yet anyway watching that trailer it looks kinda cool... is it just me or is the way that the KR guy looks at his ring really quite creepy??? (esp at 58 secs)
  19. ha ha well yeah, i see the er... resemblence now (kind of...) i was lookin for a literal depiction rather than a representitive symbol it all makes sense! thanks to Uziel!!!! Well done dude!!! i did not remember that at all!!!!!!!!! thanks!! edit: something else i might be looking into too much now - just flicking through tankobon 13 and on p92 (chap 76) Archanfel appears in what looks like a very similar depiction of when Apollon enters/dissapears in april and mays issues! so c'mon its either imakarum or Archanfel!? (or Balcas - he knows where Silha is right? )
  20. we don't know this. I'm pretty sure the image of arks was a conceptual image. If i remember right wasnt any imagery of the creators always in their big 'egg with legs' pod ships?? the ark is a creation of Archanfel's / Cronos to transport the zoalords and zoanoids to pursue the creators in space isnt it?? im sorry but unless i am missing something Archanfel is not on that relief!! i spy dinosaurs, insects, wolf men,mer people etc. but no Archanfel. the reliefs are depicting the Creators as....creators!! as the sun as seen by the rays emenating outwards from them, they gave life to everything below. what i question is: 1.was this made while the creators were still there or after?? there is no depiction of humans so its hard to tell. 2.depending on how civiliation progressed and how far widespread it was after the creators left it could merely be a relief showing a depiction of the creators their 'god/s', in which case it could be anywhere in any early temple built by any early civilization that had knowledge of the creators...(including the lycanthropic were people!!etc.) 3.is this relief praising the creators or merely depicting history? 4. am i making too much of this??? i guess we wont know until next chapter (maybe!!!!!!!!!)
  21. i can't wait! well i can / will have to - because im going to have to for the english translation! i sense pure shock in their faces rather than shock / confusion?? so it could be the truck driver or it could be an indication of whats in store ....or not. (i.e if they know their captor or not... or it has no relevance whatsoever!!!!) also when is tankobon 29 coming out????????????
  22. [quote name=.:.' timestamp='1342669147' post='74673] I What do you guys think? Like it? I think this looks awesome! by the time you get the 'fins' correct it would be hard to get it much better! keep going!!!!
  23. i cant believe its been so long - nearly 5 years ago?! ? i certainly hope we get some good news! The manga is still going there are still loads of Guyver fans so they should just release new figures!!!!!!

    aptom and guyver

Thats why i said i think Aptom could absorb or replicate a Zoalords cells as long as his own bio system could cope with the energy production to maintain the form, seeing as he doesnt have a Zoacrystal to do so. like you said as in the case of the Zoanoids all the information is there already. it would be like seeing a torch that is illuminated and wanting to replicate it, so you could get the blueprint for a torch but if you had no battery it wouldnt work, BUT if you made another way to power it through mains or a wind up device you end up with a working torch emitting light but via a slightly different way. (did that example help at all or was it even necessary!!?? ) i also think that the Telepathic/ mind control abilities would be a preprogrammed function of the crystal or it could be part of the genetic make up of a Zoalord - in which case Aptom would be able to control lower Zoanoids if he absorbed that capability from a zoalords brain's genetic make up. watch out Cronos if that happenend!!!! hmm.... Aprtom cells vs boost creature cells , that would be an all out war - i think they would end up as a pulsing mass of goop on the floor in an eternal battle for supremacy!!!!!! absorb- eat - regenerate - absorb - eat- regenerate -absorb..... ∞ Aptom absorbing sho????? good question! if Aptom replicated Shou's brain and or nervous system and possibly just his whole body then MAYBE he could boost if him doing so would trick the control metal into thinking Aptom was Sho?? although maybe he would need Shou's consciousness to call it / control it, and thats not really a physical thing that can be replicated (unless you work at the Dollhouse!)
  25. Aether

    aptom and guyver

yeah but there you are assuming that Aptom knows specifically how a Guyver works and how the control medal interacts with the host on a cellular level, plus he can't interact with the boost dimension to power the Guyver weapons... maybe if Aptom did try to absorb the boost creature it would just eat Aptom because the metal is what prevents it from eating the host?? i dont see him absobing a Zoalord as as much of a problem, maybe as long as he absorbed the crystal too?? unless he could generate enough power to let his cells do what the Zoacrsytal does?? imho - Guyver no, Zoalord yes.
