Randy Pullen, Former Arizona Republican Party Chair, said that we need gun control for young black men, because “they’re the killers.†A former chairman of the Arizona Republican Party tweeted Tuesday night during the first Democratic presidential debate that guns should be taken away from "blacks" because "they are the main killers."

I've been contemplating incorporating a racism episode into one of my Power Rangers stories since kids are often scrutinized for being a certain race before they're teenagers.  There was an episode of "The Parent 'Hood" where a coach at Robert Townsend's youngest son's school proved he was a racist by denying the boy a spot on the roller hockey team despite being awesome and the boy's best friend, who was white, made the team despite the fact that he sucked.

Once humanity can free itself from greed and the education for the masses isn't totally geared just to survive in the world of work, there will always be racism I feel. It's a natural instinct to fear that what's different, so it won't go away for away long time.

Greed has been the root cause of most trouble between peoples I think. Hopefully future generations can work out what we haven't managed to do

Personally I believe we live in "Generation Snowflake" where people genuinely believe that if I say something that offends them I should be sorry for offending them. Not just that but if I am viewed to be racist that my view should not only be condemned but it should get me time in jail.

I think that is bullshit, and in the end hides the real issues in the world.

True. I would imagine that we as a global society would be past any racism or bigotry, but the more we try to enlighten ourselves and become accepting of others, the more we place a wall between us as human beings. Catch 22. I personally don't think I am racist. In fact, I really could care less what other people do or are. The problem is that every group wants to be special. Gain attention from Facebook or some such nonsense... "I want to be unique and special! Look at me!! MUCH different from you and better for it!" When at the end of the day we are all the same base fundamental suck machines. All too afraid to speak our minds should we offend. All this instant glamour via social media makes us think we are rock stars. Conditioned to only think about ourselves and screw the next guy. No one wants to work hard for what they have and everyone owes someone something or it was someones else's fault. Put politics or religion or wars aside... Adults do not entirely exist anymore. A bunch of mental midgets. Racism exists due to greed. Greed exists because we all want what everyone else has. Fads, trends and "hip" things generally make me personally go the opposite direction. There is something to be said about a herd or sheep mentality. Throw in "my invisible god is better than yours" and it's no wonder why we find ourselves in current situations all over the world. Here and now, and in the past. We need an alien invasion like Independence Day to band us together as a people. But hell, that might not even do the trick.

The reactions to this change (which I am not crazy about, although not for race-related reasons) on especially 4chan were astonishingly, and often shamelessly racist.

Agreed. I am of the mindset that they can do whatever they will with the characters. Nothing wrong with diversity. But there is something to be said about how they are pandering with this. I am not racist at all, but Spidey will always be Parker in my eyes. The same as how Black Panther will always be T'Challa. Bring on variations! I could care less, but to a degree this is less about progressive storytelling and more about pandering and sales. Good business plan to be sure. All little kids regardless of gender or race or belief should have someone like them to look up to. But again, doesn't this just create more walls and separation? Glad my comic is only about super powered IBS and is silly. Yikes...

The thing is though. Mankind has never been able to discard things such as money, race and religion. I'm not sure we'll ever be rid of those things. Maybe for some people that are intelligent enough. But greed and religious bigotry will always be apart of humanity.

For the foreseeable future, I believe you're right. Looking at humanity as a whole,  I would put our collective age at about 10 years old. There will be more woes, worries and good times before we mature as as species.

I came across this video today. Although it makes me sad that such a video needed to be made in the first place, it makes me feel a bit better that I'm not the only one who thinks this and that I'm not going insane. The video is a rebuttal to the Yes All White People Are Racist video which I also watched a very long time ago.

I watched her video, and while she presents her points in an abrasive, angry fashion, I can't refute her points. Not completely, anyway. The solutions she offers seem pretty pointless to me, however, and can only lead to alienation and segregation.  (Come to think of it, she advocates a form of segregation).

And the people who should hear her message of course never will, while the people who will hear it either don't need to hear it or are not in any position to change anything.

Well what do you think of this video rebuttal I just shared? Do you really believe that something like skin pigmentation genetically and inherently makes someone a racist? That by default, as soon as their born, even if they don't want to be, they're racist; just because of how they look? If so, please explain why. You make good arguments in your debates Sal, I'd like to hear your opinion on this.

No, certainly not. No, the way I understood her video was that society itself is racist (which I would say it is). And that anyone who benefits from being the 'right' color without being aware of this and speaking out against it, is racist - albeit passively. It's possible to sin by omission, so to say. Also, I can understand her anger - although I cannot understand the frustration of living in a society you experience to be rigged against you, I can imagine it would be fairly crushing after a while if you feel there is really nothing you can do about it. Different people would experience this differently, of course, even if they were in the same position.

But, as I said, I don't think her video is very constructive.

My interpretation of the matter is a bit skewed. On one hand I don't think Racism will ever end. As sad is it sounds we've grown accustomed to being bigots, in every aspect. People will continue to discriminate against others. I'm not even sure if we have fully accepted Gay marriage but that kind of hypocrisy goes along with hatred towards colored people just the same. It is all broken down to a matter of opinion, which stems from a different belief system. If you were raised Christian and only accept Straight married couples, then how can you ever accept two Gay men or women that wish to get married. And if you grew up with a family that hated black people (or those of a different color), then you would still detest them to this day. Of course it's incredibly ignorant on both ends but there really isn't much you can do.

On the other hand I think it's entirely possible to coexist but we haven't made that stride yet. You can't force people to get along with one another. All you can do is wait and hope one day they accept people for who they are. A few years ago my sister came out as a lesbian and she told us she was dating her best friend. We all seemingly accepted that transition because we love her. Personally it took me by surprise since I had heard about it during high school, but after a while it didn't bother me. However, as far as my dad and step mother were concerned it was a real eye opener. Neither of the two were ready for that. Needless to say they slowly accepted her and her girlfriend and supported her, without giving her any slanted treatment or discrimination. The same goes for the rest of my dad's side of the family, but they're just old fashioned. It's just how they were raised. They had never heard about same sex couples back then. It was unheard of. I'm sure there were same sex couples but very few. Either way that goes to show you that it can be done.

Only those who want to change can change. If you're stuck in the same mindset forever you fail to open up your heart to other people, no matter what race, sex, or religion they may be of. I won't go into too much detail on this but take it from me when I say my step mother is very judgmental, especially towards different races of people. So when she had accepted my sister dating another woman and let the two of them live with her it definitely showed a change in her. I believe one day it will cease. Although it will take a very long time! That much I know is true. It sounds rather odd but it would take a common enemy for us to unite as a species whole and stand together. When we are all fighting and working towards the same goal, we all will shed the same blood.

See I was raised on a military base, so I never saw this "rigged" system or "systemic" racism that everyone talks about. I grew up playing with all kinds of people from various ethnic backgrounds and genders and we were fine, we were a family, and we were Americans. We didn't have any type of racial problems we had each others backs and were patriotic. Maybe because we were children too, we didn't have a full grasp of what was going on outside. But whenever we were taught about racism in school, they talked like it was some archaic thing of the past, now it's rampant everywhere.

 I don't believe for a second that our nation is still racist (at least systemically racist) like everyone tries to make out. There are no laws prohibiting people like the Jim Crow laws. Jim Crow was systematic. Jim Crow was an actual law that we could point to and examine, and agree that it was racist. But simply saying there's racist "White Privilege" somewhere out there in the universe, doesn't do anything or help anyone. It's just a way for people to excuse their own bigotry and justify their hatred. If I see someone who is behaving in a racist manner, or people can point to an actual law that is racist intentionally or discriminating then I will agree, but simply blaming people as racist because they happen to have white skin (which is racist in and of itself) doesn't help anyone.

Agreed, I put this to three factors of those in power, including the media, that feed off such conflict as it gets them more money and power, along with those who can't let go of old grudges and try their best to pass these grudges to the next generation, and the growing mindset of you're either for me or against me to the point that unless you're 100% for me then you're my enemy!

That last factor being the strongest contributor to the present situation as it prevents any real discussion and polarizes people.  While the rest just helps indoctrinate people, generation after generation...

All the while we keep ignoring the real problems in our society and this keep getting worse as we often blame and focus on the wrong things.

Does it matter to most people that most cops in big cities like New York are actually minorities themselves?  Does it matter that a African American College Professor did a study that found cops actually shoot more white people?  Does it matter that over 99% of African American death is by violence from other African American's?  Does it matter that a African American child in places like Chicago is far more likely to be killed by a local gang and literally hundreds get killed every year with practically no media coverage?

Did it matter in Milwaukee that the cop that shot the crook was African American himself and he was protecting the locals from getting shot as they had a rash of civilians getting shot that week? Nope, they just used it as a excuse to go after white people... An Asian reporter almost got lynched there just weeks later until someone yelled out stop, "He's Asian", and escorted him out of the danger zone... Was that even reported on most media outlets? Nope...

The problem is not enough people know what's really going on and how often the facts get distorted to fit some agenda that we end up too busy fighting each other than facing and solving the real problems in our society...

How many people are fighting to deal with the over 2000 deaths in cities like Chicago? How many are actually dealing with the root causes of poverty, the lack of education, the growing number of single parents and broken homes, etc.?... Nowhere near as many as would be if we weren't fighting each other...

Our respective country leaders  have to project an appearance of not being racist, so that the public will follow. Just like a parent has to lead by example to their children. Hopefully in a few generation's,  the example will will be followed. Like attitudes to gay/lesbian have shifted over the past 50 years (I can only speak for the u.k)  I can see why some impoverished minorities dislike the affluent white majority, but if it was the opposite way around, it would still be the same. I think we've all pretty much agreed it's greed/poverty related matter, we all want a fair share of the pie, it's only natural. There will always be a pecking order too, but if those who were at the bottom had enough to live comfortably, there would be a lot less racism.

What is even more sad is that racism is promoted by media and mainly rap music. You hear so much garbage in one song alone. It's a wonder why things are worse.  I just wish people would realize that we're all one color on the inside.
