  1. Key member being Jess, right? Yeah the typesetter is still around and the current translator, Melvin Junko, that took over duties from Durendal is still present as far as I know. I can't see why the monthly chapters can't continue unhindered really.
  2. Ok! Sounds like a very good idea! I approve! What does everyone else think? Also, now that the Advocacy is officially dead, would it be a good idea to rename the group for future scans? Or maybe keep the continuation of the scans/group a "secret"? Just wondering (like everyone else) where we'll go from here... Also, this +member thing, how many of us are there that can see this thread and what were the qualifying conditions to get this status? Just wondering.... lol
  3. Aaagh! My OCD is kicking in and I control it anymore.... It's ApollYon!! Let's get his name right please!! I reckon Apollyon is Sho's older brother that he didn't know about.... or something equally as wacky!! Haha!
  4. I don't think it's really fair to expect people to own Book 32 to get Book 32's translated content. You can quite easily see if someone owns books 8 to 31 or 1 to 31 of the books that they are a Guyver collector and would be serious about getting book 32. In saying that, once Book 32 went up for retail, if you don't own it and have a pic with it tough luck for Book 33's Oh I understand what you mean totally. However, we don't have a pledge system in place anymore so how can we ensure that people will actually buy it in exchange for the scans? After all, anybody can just say "yeah I'll get a copy" right? Naturally, I don't want to see people waiting an entire year between books either but what other way can we be sure that only paying customers are getting the translations?
  5. Hi guys. Just though I'd weigh in with some thoughts. Firstly, this guy is highly likely talking from his butthole with regards to mailing Kadokawa. 2 of us have taken him up on his offer of a screencap of the mail but he completely ignored the request (thus far anyway). Also, if he really DID send an email, I'm very sure he did so in English. This will pretty much garantee that his message will end up In their junk mail to start with, or if it doesn't, it'll likely be disregarded anyway. For better or worse, English is not really widely spoken over here and most people tend to balk when faced with a wall of English text. That said, even IF they not only got his message AND understood it, by the time they get round to investigating, they'll discover that the scans reader has been taken down anyway. Basically, they just aren't gonna waste time trawling through the site. They are VERY busy people. It's clear that his problem is the pledge/pre-order system. If it was the fact that we were giving it away for free then he should also report the Chinese and Russian groups too. He hasn't though. He's just very annoyed that he can't get drenn for free anymore. The system of offering to order in bulk for members here is something that Kadokawa would applaud. It's a great idea but also a headache for Jess who has to do all the legwork. In fact, he probably did Jess a favor as now she has a excellent reason to kick her feet up and relive herself of the stress. This. If people still want to support the artist, they should order the books from Amazon.jp themselves and post a pic with their user name. This will completely eliminate any money transactions going through here and with the online reader gone, this will just be forum. The downside however is that due to Takaya's pace, they will have to wait a year for each book and perpetually be behind. It's not perfect but at least they will be buying the book and have access to a translation. Another option is that I can post a rundown of what happens in each chapter as a "spoiler" . No images just a few sentences for those that HAVE to know. Just an idea.
  6. Ooh! Pretty cool chapter! Agito is in for a tough fight here for sure. Also, I learned a new english word! Hahaha! I now know what a "Supercell" is!
  7. I agree with Jess here. If you can create a small portfolio of work to present, that will help you in applying for positions. Qualification wise, you would need at least N2 of the JLPT but again, if your ability speaks for itself, then it may not be required. I've read your translations and they generally represent the source language well. You must have a good understanding of Japanese grammar and Kanji so why not give the test a go? I will say though, and this is by no means a dig at you, but you might want to spend some time on improving your Japanese listening skills. I watched some anime you put up on your YouTube channel and there was some glaring mistakes in the translations, even some ad-lib going on at times. Again, I'm not having a dig, just trying to encourage you as you seem to enjoy translation and want to take it seriously. Another tip would be translate something other than Manga/Anime. give your portfolio more depth. The scanlation community is rife with people that take a few classes in Japanese and then translate something (usually pretty badly) before throwing it up on Batoto/Manga Fox etc. Try and distance yourself from those guys and stand out! Good luck Ciaran!
  8. I must also applaud your courage in coming here after the comments you made about this group. Like Durendal and Jess said, welcome to the board. I noticed that you mention doing the Guyver kinda as a "stopgap" whilst waiting for stuff to arrive from Japan. This is rather telling as it suggests that you may order Tankobons from Japan and thus support the creators of the Manga before you give their work away. I'm somewhat heartened to think you do actually buy and don't just sit there and wait for somebody to put the RAWs up. Pat on the back to you sir. Since you seem to have a fair amount of time on your hands, have you ever thought about doing legit, paid work for your translations? I've often wondered why so many people do so much work for free. This is not a loaded question in anyway, nor am I having a jab at you, just genuinely interested.
  9. I'm surprised it's taken this long for another group to pick it up to be honest. I doubt they'll stick it out though, one man operations like that usually don't.... EDIT: Aaaaand the translation sucks anyway! Big brother! Big Brother!! *facepalm*
  10. Pretty sweet chapter!! Agito has stepped up and is ready to bitchslap these guys!! Oh man.... Now I have to wait another month for the next 10 pages....Damnit Takaya, do 20 pages for once you lazy bastard!!
  11. Haha! You just KNOW that the next chapter is gonna switch back to Tetsuro/Mizuki/Apollyon and Sho!! Don't fret though, there WILL be a chapter next month!
  12. Holy crap!! I need to get to the bookstore today and pick this up!! I can't read chinese! Hahaha
  13. Anybody seen it yet? I just picked up my copy today and despite only being a few pages (sigh) it's clear that the poop is now hitting the fan!!
  14. Random question but are you the same guy that used to be on the Hokuto no Gun forum?
  15. Just picked it up this afternoon! Also, it looks like there is actually some plot development this month!! Crazy, right???
  16. I mean "July" chapter of course. No, it says that Guyver IS in the month's Shonen Ace! Actually, I'm glad you posted this because I completely forgot to pick it up today! Tomorrow I will for sure!
  17. I'm probably alone in not really liking these. They look far too "cute" for my tastes...
  18. Not sure why but this conjured up an image of a hundred mini doughnuts scurrying en masse! HAHAHA!!
  19. I know right?? No wonder Jabir was concerned about who would be protecting their base! That's a lot of manpower to get rid of!
  20. Chicken scratch?
  21. Sometimes I look at Yahoo Auction for stuff and I came across these cells of Mizuki from the 12 part OAV intro. http://page9.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k185038872 Pretty cool find right? I also saw a LD of the live action movie for dirt cheap too... http://page11.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/n149675986
  22. Yeah this is an interesting thread isn't it? Actually, the system in place here at Guyver-Advocacy is something that I immediately thought was backwards and silly but after a little thought, I soon came to realize that it's actually a pretty nice way of ensuring that the mangaka and the publishers get their dues. In an ideal world, more overseas based publishers would license more manga but when people are reading it online for free, it's almost business suicide to spend the large amounts of money that the Japanese publishers demand for the distribution rights of their properties. I can also understand though, that people who can't read Japanese might not want to take up precious bookshelf space with Japanese language books. It's not a perfect system but until an overseas company figures out how to monetize online manga reading where the creators get their fare cut of the proceeds, this system is probably the best it gets. Guyver will NOT be licensed again overseas in manga form. I know this because i'm personal friends with people like Stu Levy of TOKYOPOP and we have spoken about this title before in the past. Part of the problem lies in the fact that the story is STILL unfinished. The snail pace of the Guyver makes it an utterly "unthinkable acquisition" in terms of licensing from a publisher's perspective. As such, the price of such titles that are still ongoing, is automatically higher. ShonenJump titles like One Piece cost an absolute fortune but finished titles nowhere near. I'm rambling so sorry but, In all, I think GA have it right. That said, there is nothing stopping anybody else acquiring the raws and doing the Guyver for free. The fact that nobody else is bothering though is actually not a good sign concerning the manga's popularity. Who knows? Maybe somebody will come along and do it for free. If that happens, our system will be somewhat undermined but until then, let's keep the good vibe going!
  23. Wow!! I guess it's not so secret now, huh?? Hahaha!! Amazing find Cannibal!!
  24. Agreed. seems we have another name nailed! Clumegnik it is! Yep. 100% agreed! Nice work, Sherlock!
