  1. that's weird, I read the old posts on there loads of times.
  2. please don't post it publicly if you do. Once there is a chance that this current version reaches the desired audience, we can get a proper one done. it is looking like we will be doing that.

could i be so bold as to elaborate on what i took from this? I believe guyver four was stating that a translation was reducing the impetus for a company to publish guyver in english as a translation already exists and the market opportunity is reduced. I think durendal, you may have implied with your words something different. that a translation is damaging all of guyver including the original publication. to conclude that guyver fours website was doing this is not entirely accurate. guyver four's website contains the latest chapter and no more. the tankoubon is not available there so the only thing that could be damaged is the sale of shonen ace, but it is not generally available in the west anyway. now to follow on from that, even if durendal's post did imply that damage was being done to the franchise, including the original publication, I believe there is a difference in focus. to deter publication in english could be damaging 'the franchise' in some people's view. but as the franchise currently exists, there is no damage being done to it. as it exists. i think it depends if you consider the franchise as it is, or the franchise as an ambiguous bubble of potential. I hope that helps a little?

ok, thanks for clarifying. I think the points that other people bring up are good points. many of us do buy the manga. if they released more figures from the bio-fighter collection, a great deal of us would buy them. perhaps our focus should be to simply get guyver out to as many people as possible and use that to push people to buy official guyver product. if we make a concerted effort to put information on any materials we produce, we can do some good. if we could sell the japanese guyver books on this site, I think that would be a really good thing. if we were to do something like that, then we are actually putting money in the guyver producer's pockets.

do we have a source for that?
  8. Thanks Durendal! ok, well Lost Unit has worked hard on this and produced an html page for this chapter! you can find it here - http://www.japan-legend.com/guyver_advocacy/htmlpage/1302-01.html durendal, I did do a subtle version of the translation, which lost unit typeset for us, it is here - please feel free to 'improve' on it. my version is subtle and a bit dry. 9. it is a very nice idea. here, I will embed the manga viewer into this post - [guyver]covers[/guyver]
  10. you did and it is appreciated. if you were to do some scanlations for your own benefit I am sure some members would appreciate the ability to PM you and ask for a copy. however, there is renewed discussion and there may be a better case for doing scanlations but with a stricter focus on presentation, watermarks etc.

Mercury-8619, I read carefully and considered carefully. it is not easy to hear things like that, I certainly appreciate the weight of your words and what it means. I don't like to think that I have much influence, or that I am any different from the rest of you guys, but I have to concede certain things. You are absolutely right that I do have a responsibility towards the people I have provided for with anything that I have done. I will keep that firmly in mind. I do consider takaya-sensei all the time. I guess this is why I strive to keep this project running because if it were left to somebody else to scanlate guyver, they may not have as much sympathy for the people who make guyver. This is why I wanted to make it clear that I have no intention to pull the plug at this time. I have not had that intention since the start of this thread almost a month ago. The reason I revived this thread is because i am seeing weaknesses in the plan to do an html page as a translation device. Guyver Four, once again a strong post. I am appreciating your views in this situation. I need to respond to your post because i see a different point of view. where you say that if we stop all translation, it would increase the chances of an official publication in english, I disagree. I would like to amend the statement to something more like this: if there were no translation of guyver at all from now on, the chances of a publication would be increased. but if we stop doing it, and if guyver were popular enough for a publisher to consider it, then somebody else would translate it. if nobody else would consider translating it, then doubt the publishers would see it as being popular enough for them to consider publishing it. it's sort of a double edged sword. I find it interesting what you said though. allegiance to takaya-sensei or allegiance to the fans.... is it really so hard and fast? it's an open question. I wonder if it is the fans opposed to the author, or is it possible to focus on one while also holding the other in highest regard? or is that what you meant anyway?

Sorry if I gave the impression I was thinking of stopping translating altogether. that's not where I was coming from. please put it out of your mind. I wanted to get your input.

Guyver Four, your post is incredibly potent. I'm really trumped right now. I mean, as long as we did scanlations, there were people like kenji, who did print out our work, but also bought the original manga at the same time. this kind of thing encourages current fans to remain with the series and enjoy it and also buy the books at the same time. but if what you are saying is true, then stopping doing scanlations is not going to help takaya-sensei in any way, because any damage is already done. all that we would achieve is protecting our own IP, while having damaged Yoshiki Takaya's IP. this would be quite heinous and I certainly wouldn't want to put myself or the Guyver Advocacy Group in that kind of position. I'm a bit befuddled right now so I'll wait to see what everyone else has to say.

this is the biggest source of upset. that we know full well that it isn't just one site. when it comes to scanlation, you can produce it and have somebody steal it to increase the popularity of their own site, or you can decide not to produce it. you know, it doesn't even bother me if somebody wants to share our work, it bothers me when people try and profit from our work in some way. it would be just as bad if somebody takes my translation and uses it to profit in some way. "yes, come to our site, we have all the best manga, come here and click on our ads to make us money!" I don't think there is anything wrong with a site using unobtrusive ads to help with server costs, but I have a big problem with a site that purposely steals other peoples work and plasters ads all over the place to make profit. I mean, if the site had no intention of profiting from other people's hard work, they would be doing that mangaupdates does.

hey guys, I'm bringing up fresh data that needs to be considered. what happens if somebody just takes my or durendal's translation and creates a scanlation with it, and posts it to a manga aggregator site, leaving out any way to identify it as ours? would this not be worse? what are the chances of this? what are your thoughts about this guys?
  16. The jury will never be completely out on these kinds of issues. right now, there is no plan to do a scanlation. but if it turns out to be a better way to support takaya sensei and get us an english translated manga, then that is what will happen. But Kenji, you need to keep in mind, these things take a lot of hard work. it is unreasonable for you to expect the guys who produce these things to waste hours of extra time, just so you can have the luxury of printing it out. Don't you think that is a little bit self centred?
  17. finished my translation, Durendal, if you get chance can you check this please? I'm not 100% confident with some parts. Thanks thanks Salkafar for providing the names of the creatures! I would have had trouble with those otherwise. Lost Unit, do you feel confident producing an html page for this? if not, I can do it this time.
  18. Thanks Guyver Four. ------------------------ Durendal, if you get chance can you check this please? I'm not 100% confident with some parts. Thanks thanks Salkafar for providing the names of the creatures〠I would have had trouble with those otherwise.
  19. recent software update apparently included some extensive template changes. this means i have a fair bit of manual editing to do... I hate it when that happens
  20. cheers purgstall, you're probably spot on with that conclusion. I don't like dark violent things. maybe i will look into watching some more of ultraman..? I'll think on it.
  21. oh wow! thanks cannibal, you beauty!
  22. brilliant. when somebody says press x, I immediately want to press the bottom button. the x button.
  23. I'm sort of the same as durendal in this regard. I remember watching it a bit back when Hulk hogan was the biggest star in it. I remember going to the cinema to watch mr nanny because if it. I remember back then, I used to really like the ultimate warrior. Then the undertaker arrived. loved him. the best one I watched was when there was a fight between two of them and they had to get one into the casket. that was pretty awesome. I stopped watching for ages then i watched for a fair bit when the rock was fighting triple h. stone cold steve austin was a name around that time but he wasn't fighting. when he came back was around the time i stopped watching again. but I've seen bits and pieces since then. was always impressed with the big show. oh yeah it was also really cool when the nature boy came back and started fighting properly. I was very impressed by how buff he became. after being such a weasel in the olden days, it was very cool to see him become more impressive. I'm not a fan of the newer styles of stars like johnny cena. I really liked the old wholesome family entertainment, but not so much a fan of the hip hop culture that is being brought into it. but I guess that is what the fans go for and I'm not exactly a dedicated fan. edit: the rock and sock connection... that is the rock and cactus jack ... mankind ... mick foley? I vaguely recall that... wasn't there one episode where foley was stuck in the toilet cubicle?
  24. sorry, that was meant to say allkenfel009.
  25. That's a good point. but truth be told, that is how I always saw spiderman anyway. my big bro used to read them to me when I was little so I can read spiderman any time and the way it is written, it feels like he is next to me reading it to me. so I don't need to know the backstory, never did. but you are right that it is bringing attention to the franchise. I never paid money to read it, but some people may have. it won't last long though. I mean, I don't plan to read the next issue at all. I'll just keep an eye out for news of the situation changing. and probably forget about it anyway.
