durendal Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Captain America is one of my favorite characters and I'm getting really excited about the upcoming movie. It was already confirmed that Christ Evans will be taking the lead role of the famed Avenger. My question is, how will this affect the whole franchise of Marvel movies seeing that Evans already appeared as the Human Torch in the earlier Fantastic Four movie? I'm also somewhat skeptical about his performance since I percieved him as somewhat immature in his earlier roles. I was hoping that they would cast an unknown actor for the titular role. Also, good news is that they casted Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull. I respect Weavings acting skill and I'm looking forward to him performing as the Red Skull. Any insights? Quote
Purgstall Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I believe that they're planning to reboot the FF movies, so I kinda doubt that Evans will play Johnny Storm again. I think Evans did a good job as the Human Torch, I think I can see him doing a good job as Cap. Same goes for Hugo Weaving as Red Skull, no doubt he will do an excellent job as Cap's archnemesis. *V Guyver Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I did not like ANY of the acting... if you can call it acting.... in the Fantastic 4 movies. He had only one line in eitherm ovie I liked, everything else I pretty much felt was average at best. Maybe it was the directors fault, I dunno. He has a face to play the character, but I did not like him. I'd rather of had someone else play the role. Also I wish they would stick to a WWII setting. He seems so much cooler in that era. I really don't wanna see Cap in a modern era, I want to see that in a sequal. Quote
durendal Posted April 19, 2010 Author Posted April 19, 2010 Well, I've read that they will make the first half of the movie setting in WWII era, and the producers wanted to make it look like Captain America as a man out of his own time. Would be cool if they also feature his first shield. I'm curious as to how they will depict bucky though. Will he be the wise cracking teenager that we all grown to know or as the cold blooded killer that will eventually become the winter soldier? Quote

Will he be the wise cracking teenager that we all grown to know or as the cold blooded killer that will eventually become the winter soldier? Oh? so they are going the way of Batman begins? Well it sounds a bit more promising to me then. I'm with you on the shield part. Actually, the old classic shield looks a bit cooler to me, though obviously could not be thrown like a Frisbee. Bucky... the one character who was never really supposed to come back. Actually I'd like to see him in a movie for once. In the previous CA movies, he was never really featured at all in either live action or animated form. If he is featured, I'd like him to star off as wise cracking, but eventualy become cold and distant as the horror of war dragged on. Quote
Salkafar Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 I hope the whole thing will be in 1945... and part of the plot of the Avengers flick will be finding Cap Am in the ice. He was the missing piece of the puzzle, especially per "Avengers: Earth's mightiest heroes" which was a rather brilliant Avengers miniseries from a while ago. I mean, when the Avengers started, they had the Hulk as a member. Not a great success. But when Cap Am joined, things really started to buzz... Hmmm. They have this tradition of the Big Three - Captain America, Thor and Iron Man - and they always leave out Giant-Man and the Wasp. Not fair, really. The Captain and Thor are getting movies, and Iron Man already has one with another one on the way. But will we get one about Hank and Jan? Will we Hell. I suppose that will also be a part of the Avengers movie. Not a bad idea really. Quote
durendal Posted April 20, 2010 Author Posted April 20, 2010 I have heard rumors about an ant man movie though. Not sure if this is confirmed. Quote
*V Guyver Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 Marvel treats Antman pretty bad, even in most cartoons and movies, he's depicted as an arrogant and overly stubborn ass. The closest we had to a decent Antman as a lead was in the Avengers cartoon series from a decade ago. Quote
*Steel Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I never liked Cap as a kid but as I grew older I also grew to apriciate the character and ever since Ed Brubaker run on the Captain America series I bacame an enormous fan. Now Steve Rogers and Bucky Barns rank up in my top list of favorate Marvel characters. Cap has always been what I now see as a sort of template for what a man should really be. Not his physical peek human abilitys, his principles, courage and honour. He always seems to be someone I could count on to set an example to others, and set the bar for what it really is to be a hero. I was unsure when Chris Evans was cast as Steve. He was a significantly diffrent character in Sunshine than his normal rolls so I do have some faith that he can pull it off. I'm not worried about his having played a previous marvel character, there are other actors who've done the same. I just hope that they dont try and alter Steve's character too make him more marketable to youngster or something like that. He should be an example too all. Quote
LordSpleach Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Well I think Chris Evans is a good choice for Cap. Now he is known for the immature roles but watch him in Sunshine. I think he can pull it off. As far as Antman goes, the only thing that's confirmed is that Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World(which I still need to see) Fame) is the director. Quote
durendal Posted October 20, 2010 Author Posted October 20, 2010 "When Captain America throws his mighty shield, All those who chose to oppose his shield must yield. If he’s led to a fight and a duel is due, Then the red and white and the blue’ll come through When Captain America throws his mighty shield." Sorry, but I just can't help it. I think I can imagine the movie paying tribute to this short jungle, like how the spiderman movie did to it's old spiderman theme. Quote
Bobby Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 I can't wait for this movie. As a lifelong comic book fan, this is gonna be major. Especially since they have Chris Evans, who previously played the Human Torch, to portray the Star-Spangled Avenger. Quote
*Steel Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Having seen alot more pictures I have too say that Chris Evans really seems too look the part. I'm still curious at too how they have done pre-syrum Steve. Probubly some cgi, like Sam Worthington's withered legs in Avatar. I just really dont want too get my hopes too high for this. Quote

*V Guyver Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 so far, looks like it's moving in the right direction. A bit dissapointed they didn't make him more battle worn. Who the heck is on the battlefeild without a speco f dirt on his face? Quote
Bobby Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Check out the cover of the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly!!! Quote
Super Existence Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 They were filming this 20 miles from me in Manchester and also in Liverpool cut off all the street and had explosions going on and so forth. Quote
Bobby Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Just like with Transformers 3. Last month, they were shooting parts of it in Washington, D.C. And they were within spitting distance of my mom's office. Quote
Matt Bellamy Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 First trailer is out! http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/125707-first-footage-from-captain-america Quote
Bobby Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I saw the Super Bowl ad for it and briefly saw Red Skull. For some reason, I think they used CGI to make Chris Evans look like a scrawny guy. Like when they made Patrick Stuart & Ian McKellan look younger in the third X-Men movie. Quote
Bobby Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 It's interesting that Hugo Weaving is playing villains that are older than our parents. Megatron, that head vampire in "Underworld", and now the Yang to Captain America's Yin, the Red Skull. Quote
*Steel Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Hugo Weaving was in Underworld? I'm worrying myself now. I'm starting to get psyched over this movie dispite trying not to get my hopes up. I'm really suprised at how they've pulled off Pre Super-Serum Steve looks. Although I always thought he was about the same height, just skinny and frail. Would like to see some more sheild tossing. Looks good but so far. Quote
Bobby Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Yeah. The Shield Tossing is one of a few things a lot of people remember about Captain America. It proved how a shield isn't just for defense. Quote
*Steel Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Its more how far they will take it that worries me. Curving sheild shots and bouncing it off multiple people will be difficult to pull off without it looking weird. Usualy the throw never seems to loose momentum. I supose they can play up the Vibranium strange propetys making it bounce on the edge but absorb impact on the flat. Quote
