H222G981 Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 (edited) Not meaning to rock the boat. I was surfing around the net and I found this topic floating on Reddit. Not sure if its a big deal at the moment....and people are likely to fuss and complain about how things work in just about anything. But I so happened to find this floating around on Reddit. Its not entirely positive. Actually the truth how I found it was I typed in Guyver and Japan legend into Google and this came up. But it does concern Japan Legend. So I thought I'd bring it to Guyver Advocacy's attention much like that recent topic about other sites taking advantage of free manga and pasting it on their sites. Except....well...its people griping. http://www.reddit.com/r/Guyver/comments/2ogw7j/volume_30_scans/ Thoughts on this? Edited May 13, 2015 by Jupiter 1 Quote
Salkafar Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 What a cheapskate. I doubt anybody will indulge him. Quote
H222G981 Posted May 13, 2015 Author Posted May 13, 2015 Yeah. I also notice that they read the manga on here. Go on Reddit and talk about it. Doesn't seem fair. Its like they have a whole Reddit forum devoted to Japan Legend. Sort of pisses me off. http://www.reddit.com/r/Guyver/comments/2iys2b/help_with_manga/ Quote
Shin Mefilas Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 (edited) I really dont care that I have to pay for my manga, yes I do read some manga for free but many of the ones I do are old like Devilman and Mazinger Z. These have never seen a english release. Is it wrong for me to wont to read them and the only way I can at the moment is to find free online translations? I do one day intend to try and learn to at least read japans but thats not now. Plus at least I try to make it up somewhere else. For example I may read Mazinger Z for free but I did buy both Mazinkaiser and Mazinkaiser SKL when they had came out on dvd even thought I could have just downloaded them. I have also bought the full 70s anime of Devilman, Mazinger Z and Cutie Honey. Edited May 13, 2015 by Gaira Quote
Matt Bellamy Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 It's not a problem at all. The issue here is that no one else is doing it. So people bitch and whine that they can't find free stuff. However the Advocacy decides to release their stuff is up to them. And as the only one releasing it, they can do it how they want. If they don't do it, literally, no one else is, so it won't be available freely anyway. So it's a moot point. If another group picked it up, and started releasing chapters, then the Advocacy way of doing it would indeed make less sense. If the people of Reddit, haters, or whatever, REALLY want the manga translated, they should stop bitching about how the Advocacy does it, and try and convince someone else to do it. 2 Quote
*PrimalNemesis Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Real Guyver fans don't whine about not having a free translation, especially when it takes hard earned money away from Takaya-Sensei! 1 Quote
Shin Mefilas Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 (edited) You can complain all you want that its not free but by paying your are contributing to keeping the series going, so why bitch at all? Would you rather it be free but the manga got canceled again? I can honestly say that even if someone else made the series avaible for free I would still pay through the Advocacy in order to keep Guyver going. Edited May 13, 2015 by Gaira 1 Quote
durendal Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 LOL. So I live somewhere else but don't know where. Mighty brave of Yuki to indulge the troll. Anyway, internet really has spoiled people. Back in the day, we buy the comics if we want to read it, regardless if it was in English or not. They do know the difference between a right and a privilege right? Given his logic, that makes all the people in Japan Derps because apparently they are paying for something free? I guess a lot of people have no idea what copyright infringement is. Damn you internet, you have ruined us!! 2 Quote

Sully Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 (edited) Sign... I know people like free stuff but it's not like Guyver is widely available. I'm hoping the current scans keep off the webs and basically force people to buy the content. Or at worse case if another group of Guyver fans get together to translate I'll eat an extra tacochips to get over the shock of there being more fans out there that can bother to put in the work you guys do. I think the only way for Guyver Advocacy can only truly keep their scans on this site is by adding a DMCA watermark to all the Guyver manga pages. So when a free manga site adds it. Yuki could have those scans removed from the site.. I don't know if Guyver Advocacy would be willing. The DMCA offer a lot of services. One is where you can have a watermarker. There's a free plan and than there is a plan for 10 dollars a month just to have your pictures, images and art copy protected on your site. http://www.dmca.com http://www.dmca.com/ProtectionPro.aspx#DMCAbadges Just think. If Yuki had this done. All of the translations would get pulled off of sites like Manga Panda and other websites that copied and pasted it since its GA's images and content. *Jess♥ Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 we don't need to worry about that. just keep doing what we are doing. all scanlations that go out to each person are unique with a code affixed to them. it's quite a subtle technique and easy to do en masse, so it doesn't take me too long but it's easy for me to trace it. people know that if they leak any scanlations they will get blacklisted so it's not a massive worry in my view. 1 Quote
TricoBren Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Yeah this is an interesting thread isn't it? Actually, the system in place here at Guyver-Advocacy is something that I immediately thought was backwards and silly but after a little thought, I soon came to realize that it's actually a pretty nice way of ensuring that the mangaka and the publishers get their dues. In an ideal world, more overseas based publishers would license more manga but when people are reading it online for free, it's almost business suicide to spend the large amounts of money that the Japanese publishers demand for the distribution rights of their properties. I can also understand though, that people who can't read Japanese might not want to take up precious bookshelf space with Japanese language books. It's not a perfect system but until an overseas company figures out how to monetize online manga reading where the creators get their fare cut of the proceeds, this system is probably the best it gets. Guyver will NOT be licensed again overseas in manga form. I know this because i'm personal friends with people like Stu Levy of TOKYOPOP and we have spoken about this title before in the past. Part of the problem lies in the fact that the story is STILL unfinished. The snail pace of the Guyver makes it an utterly "unthinkable acquisition" in terms of licensing from a publisher's perspective. As such, the price of such titles that are still ongoing, is automatically higher. ShonenJump titles like One Piece cost an absolute fortune but finished titles nowhere near. I'm rambling so sorry but, In all, I think GA have it right. That said, there is nothing stopping anybody else acquiring the raws and doing the Guyver for free. The fact that nobody else is bothering though is actually not a good sign concerning the manga's popularity. Who knows? Maybe somebody will come along and do it for free. If that happens, our system will be somewhat undermined but until then, let's keep the good vibe going! 3 Quote
