durendal Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 So, do you eat potato chips, or any of that unhealthy sort of foods? I myself enjoy the occasional potato chip, usually when I am enjoying a nice movie at home. Most of the time I eat the local variants which cost a lot less. Although I would prefer Lay's, they are a lot more expensive. And most of the time, I can finish one whole bag by myself. I've recently bought Lay's wavy roasted garlic and seasalt, and I really liked it. Too bad it's not available locally. I'll be sure to buy a lot more when I go back to the states. So what's your chips of choice? How much do you / can you consume in a single sitting? Quote
Aether Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 (edited) chips of choice? you mean CRISPS! sorry in the UK chips are what americans call 'fries'. potato chips are crisps.... anyway i like crisps. too much. my favorite at the moment are Morrisons beef and onion flavour. i have also tried some Guiness Flavoured crisps recently and i was amazed when i first tasted them that they actually do taste of the irish stout drink Guiness. a really stsrange sensation at first! eating a savoury drink? generally i think our bags of crisps are smaller than other places... are standard is 35g i think 6 pack bags are 6 bags of 25g but then in more recent years they seem to be selling more usa sized packets, like the Guiness crisps which are 150g bags but really that is a 6 pack in one bag!!!! theres no wonder people get fat or eat too many by putting a 6 pack in one bag!! anyhow the most i will eat is 2 25g at a time and i know thats not good but i dont do it all the time, once a week or sometimes twice! Matt Bellamy Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I'm not a big fan of "regualr" chips, but I tend to like the baked variety, though occasionally I will buy some Ruffles All Dressed or Sour Cream and Onion ( but they have issues with little flavor coating). More specifically, my favorite is Old Dutch Baked Ketchup chips. I used to eat a lot of the baked salt and viniger chips too... But after a while they caused too many problems with my teeth. I also tend to go for Doritos cool ranch, or Arriba (Old Dutch) Zesty Taco chips. Depending what I am doing, I can eat an entire large bag of chips in one sitting. Like playing video games or watching a movie, but that would happen over a couple hours. If I am having lunch or working, I tend to eat maybe half a large bag, or a regular sized bag. But it is hard to stop me when there is nacho cheese dip, or "Salsa Con Queso". I can't stop eating that stuff. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I don't generally eat unhealthy stuff... not because I'm a health freak, I just don't enjoy them. I don't really enjoy chocolate that much or 'candy' or biscuits or crisps. now and then if I go to the cafe, I may go for some cake, carrot cake my favourite, but I scrape the icing off. can't stand that stuff, way too sweet. If I ever do go for some crisp type thing, it's because it's a cold day and I need to stock up on carbs. I will go for a bag of tortilla chips. I like the cool flavour very much. sometimes I may go for a tub of doritos, sour cream and chive. I don't buy them as a habit because I know full well I will eat the lot and feel rotten afterwards. not worth it. on a weekly basis, I do enjoy buying some freshly baked granola bars. But I have to make sure I eat a bowl of bean salad or something before hand. make sure I keep balance in my diet so I don't end up feeling like crap. Quote
*guyverfan Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 'nacho cheese dip', damn you matt bellamy for posting that somewhere i can read it, now i'm going to go out and find/get some, lol. man, i love chips/crisps, and i blame my mum, cause she used to feed me cheese puffs from when i was 7months old, obviously to keep me happy and quiet on occasions. she says i liked'm better than baby food. surprisingly though, all these years later im ok and a picture of health. they're more of a weekend thing than a everyday thing and definitly can empty a 200gm bag during a movie. if they're potato chips/crisps, have to be crinkle cut, salt&vinegar or cheese&onion. cheese twisties, yum. but i'm more of a corn chip person i think.as its always the first thing i'd grab off the shops shelf. was a devotie of CC's(tasty cheese),still remember the first crunch 30years ago. then went to cheese flavoured dorito's when they first came out.since it was roughly the same time CC's changed their corn chip and flavour(it wasn't the best, why change a good thing?). but when dorito's changed the chip and flavour to what it is today's, went straight back to CC's.lucky for me, CC's changed their flavour for the third time!, still not as good as their original cheese flavour. been mixing it up a little of late though between good'oll burger rings and bbq shapes. Aether Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 they're more of a weekend thing than a everyday thing and definitly can empty a 200gm bag during a movie. you see this is what i meant - 200 grams of crisps / chips is like 8 small bags - thats a lot in on sitting!!! Quote
Salkafar Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I have that problem. It's genetic. http://www.theonion.com/articles/scientists-discover-gene-responsible-for-eating-wh,691/ Quote
durendal Posted July 11, 2013 Author Posted July 11, 2013 You got that right, eating whole goddamn bag of chips. I may have that syndrome as well. Just last night, I bought 2 bags of lays, salt & vinegar and Sour cream & onion. That's 2 goddamn bag of chips. And since I'm watching Game of thrones every night, I have this urge to open on whole goddamn bag of chips and finish it in one sitting. Goddamn bag of chips! Quote
*Jess♥ Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 that's why I don't buy them. I buy fruit instead. Quote
RazorLaser Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Ruffles were the best (when Australia had them in the 90s)... Every flavour was amazing... My favourite is probably Samboy's Atomic Tomato flavour. They had a Hotdog flavoured one in the 90s with the 'flavour sachet'. Shame they don't make them anymore. I rarely eat chips/crisps though. *V Guyver Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I have a hard time not eating an entire bag, so I rarely touch chips at all these last few years. Maybe a bad every few months. Lays, UTZ, or Dorito's most often. There used to be a nice imported Portuguese brand, but I haven't seen it in years. (though I can still find some nice Cat Tongue [Cat in name only] Biscuit/cookies every so often) As for sweets. Easily chocolate, hard to avoid when I work in a store, and there is sooooo much of it. Easily my most eaten snack. As for what I don't eat.... well Soda's spicy foods, and other things. My anosmia handicap means I cannot taste and smell certain foods, or they taste horrible instead of good. Another odd side effect is Spicy foods.... I am too sensitive to them. I can't taste the good part of foods that have spices, thus only the hot painful part. Quote
Cannibal Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 (edited) I myself call them "chips", even if it is nachos or some big cornflakes or other snacks. I love them all. But I eat them only in two cases: with special side dish and when drinking beer My favs are: Estrella, Pringles, Peppies and several local brands I don't remember. I also like nachos made in local burger joints.I prefer other chips to Lays, because local Lays have sour taste. Maybe because of the verdant potato (Don't know how to translate, I mean new potato x)) Edited July 11, 2013 by Cannibal Quote
durendal Posted July 11, 2013 Author Posted July 11, 2013 Ooh! Ooh! Pringles!!! Once you pop, you can't stop! I love pringles. 1 Quote
*guyverfan Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 yeah, your right, can't say no to pringles. but the problem im having, and i don't know if its the same anywhere else, but i've noticed that stores are not stocking the cheese flavoured pringles anymore. well, probably over the period of the past 6+months i haven't seen them on any of the shelves of the different stores that i visit. *Jess♥ Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 it's because of the bad summer, the cheese flavoured potato crop is especially sensitive to the weather. Quote
