*Jess♥ Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 It's gotten to a stage where I think I can tell you guys what is going on for me. I am currently waiting for my South Korean E2 working visa to be processed. When I receive my visa I will be flying to South Korea where I will be teaching English for at least a year. I will still be a British citizen of course, but my 'home' will be South Korea. Some of you know, some of you may have guessed. It's a pretty big change and it's been difficult for me to process properly. What does it mean for the site...? Well I will be on-line at different times and possibly less frequently due to work. I'm not sure how I will be able to operate since I need to learn how Korean law enforcement operates, I will not post any new guyver chapters because of that. well somebody else usually helps us out with that anyway so it shouldn't be a major issue. What does it mean for me? New place, new society, new culture, new language, new people, new everything. Quote
LordSpleach Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Well good luck, and I hope your timing isn't horrible with that video that North Korea posted about the US. Quote
lost unit Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Well im glad you have made up your mind and ready for a new challenge and wish you the best of luck in Korea. Will miss your advise thou you have helped me out loads over the last few years and will have to wait a bit longer for your replies to my pm's. I know this is what you wanted to do and i dont blame you for doing what your heart is telling you to do. Quote
Aether Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 wow, big news for you dude. From what you have said previously, i had a feeling you would be off to china or somewhere similar. i have a friend who went to Taiwan to do a similar thing, he's still there a few years later and he is happy there. i think the social scene for him is a big part of him liking it because there are people he knows there form england and they are into ...how shall i put this....the same way of socialising. despite the obvious shock of uprooting from your long time home,i think the culture you drop yourself in will be a big part of if you can deal with / like it or not, if you can accept and adapt to that im sure you'll be just fine. in some way i envy you and yet at the same time i dont, im sure that makes sense. i like things to stay the way they are, but unfortunately the only thing constant is change , right?? do you have an idea of when you might be leaving?? whenever it is good luck dude! *Jess♥ Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 Well good luck, and I hope your timing isn't horrible with that video that North Korea posted about the US. Thanks, yeah, well I'm not worried too much really. North and South Korea are technically still at war since the end of world war II anyway. I'm actually viewing that more positively since it holds potential for more substantial change. Well im glad you have made up your mind and ready for a new challenge and wish you the best of luck in Korea. Will miss your advise thou you have helped me out loads over the last few years and will have to wait a bit longer for your replies to my pm's. I know this is what you wanted to do and i dont blame you for doing what your heart is telling you to do. yeah it might take me a while to adjust to a different pace. but I hope to be fairly available. it depends on my schedule but my contracted hours are around 30 per week. plus prep time. The culture was a cause for concern for quite a while. I knew nothing about South Korea and was why I was quizzing people on what they think about the country, what is famous about it, what is popular there etc. I found out a lot of stuff such as Samsung, Hyundai and MMO games etc. It was tough going actually, it has taken me a long while to get to the roots of the culture to see what it's really like. there is not much info about it so I actually hope to change that with my video blogging. I discovered eventually that it is very similar to Japan in many ways. There are some major differences though of course. I mean for example, their attitude to pornography is almost a polar opposite to Japan (It's banned in Korea). I understand what you mean about envy and not envy. I have the same sort of thing. on one hand, I like my current situation. on the other hand, I do not want to live a static life and grow old in the same place having done nothing. I'm kind of lucky really since I can't change my mind and stay here. This house is not going to be available for much longer. I do have an idea of when I will be leaving. my visa application arrived at the consulate today. it'll take 5 working days to process and when I get it back, I will be booking a flight. so I'll be leaving Thursday or Friday next week. Guyver0 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 That's really cool. I sincerely hope all works out for you and that the transition will be a quick and smooth one. I wish you the best of luck. 1 Quote

*Jess♥ Posted February 7, 2013 Author Posted February 7, 2013 oh yes, taekwondo and also archery. yeah self imposed change is good. the thing that's forcing me along, merely helps me keep true. If I didn't want to go to South Korea, I could get a different home in Wrexham. it turns out the main thing that would keep me here is the comfort and familiarity of my childhood home. Well, not the only thing. I also have friends here. That's gonna sting. Webcam is a good investment though. Quote
durendal Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 You have the chance to make new friends. Also, you'll now feel how I feel whenever I'm online. I won't ask what happened to you if your not ready to share it, but I may have an idea based on some of your posts and actions, but there are a lot of holes to fill. Anyway, good for you. This might be an exciting time for you. So all your bags are packed and ready to go? You'll be standing outside your door, hating to wake others up to say goodbye. But the dawn is breaking and it's early morning. The taxi's waiting and he's blowing his horn, it's too lonesome you could die. It's because you're leaving on a Jet Plane and don't know when you'll be back again, oh how you'd hate to go. Quote
Cannibal Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 That's great. I wish you good luck, Ryuki! Quote
*Jess♥ Posted February 8, 2013 Author Posted February 8, 2013 Cheers cannibal, mr mctaco yikes... durendal, I'm not sure where you're coming from there! ehm.... I live with family currently. I don't get along with them. and some time this year, the family home is going to a different family. There won't be a place for me in the uk, unless I buy my own place or find somewhere to rent. I won't be so worried abut leaving. because I don't really get along with these guys. But then... I don't know how I'll feel. Not really. But I do know I want to look forward to what I am headed for. Don't really want to look behind me. Quote
*V Guyver Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Well you wont really know how you feel until you get there, and you are definitely going to go through stages in your acceptance of the environment maybe even get homesick soon, though the reverse is also true. Korea is a pretty nice country, I used to watch a lot of Korean TV and there is a Korean Neighborhood in the township next to me. Whatever you do, you know the board is going to wish you well, and I hope that in some small corner of this universe it matters, maybe in making a positive difference in your life. You'll be alright so long as you make good friends over there, stick to the right crowd and neighborhood respect law and culture, and find the lack of differences that you can appreciate, as well as the differences you'll like to adopt. I'm a bit envious of you heading there, partly because I don't have the money, guts, and support to do it, but even if things get a little sower, it's probably going to be an adventure you wont regret. Weather it be on the forums, facebook, or email. We'll be keeping a touch on you brother. Quote
Bio-Boosted Dude Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Wow Ryuki, this is huge! I should check up on threads in the other boards more often. At least I made it here in time before you leave. I hope you don't worry too much about this place when you're off doing great things in Korea. You deserve a break to do this. Whereabouts in Korea are you going? I've always wanted to visit Seoul. I too am somewhat ignorant of the culture, but it looks like an amazing city. The music of Korea is obviously pretty fun, once you've dug further than SNSD and Gangnam style (Jaurim are a really cool K-Rock band). Anyway, best of luck Ryuki! Quote
*Jess♥ Posted February 9, 2013 Author Posted February 9, 2013 I'm going to a city called Yongin, it is about 20 miles south of Seoul, so I should be able to make regular visits. hey you guys need to be clear on something! this is my social network. this is the main thing that will be the same in my life so it's not like I'm going anywhere. I'm not going off galavanting and putting the internet and this forum behind me, this is like my safety net. That's how you cope when things change. focus on the things that haven't changed. Hey Vguyver, it's good to hear you have some familiarity with Korean culture. it is a nice link, will make me feel more at hime. It's funny, the connections in life can sustain us. oh by the way, I recorded a video for this purpose. I received a nice suggestion via PM that I could create a topic surrounding this. so people can ask me questions and make requests. I'll call it 'Keyhole to Korea', thanks for the suggestion HC. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNldjnqkFAA Quote
Larz Zahn Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 wow ryuki, that's pretty big news. I always figured youwould be moving to Japan as from how you spoke of those trips you took. Ah well, home is where your heart is, do i hope you find a good home. Quote
Bio-Boosted Dude Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Nice video man, I watched the whole thing! I'm looking forward to the little tidbits you film in Korea. Quote
