no, you are not reading wrong...just recently Disney bought Lucas Arts for 4 billion dollars and the first thing they decided to do is to make a new Star Wars film calles : Star Wars Episode VII : Knights Of The New Republic. From what i have gathered there is a possibility that this new movie will take place years after episode 6 as to not conflict with the current established lore of the series, I also heard that they will not deal with the Skywalker clan. I really don't know how to feel about this, on one hand it is a new star wars film that is not a prequel OR remake so the possibilities are endless story wise but it could also go wrong if they don't send people who know what to do with the franchise. what are your thoughts, opinions and speculations so far? episode 7 is scheduled to be on theaters on 2015.

So I've heard. I don't know how I feel about this, but won't it feel like it's being rushed? I mean, announcing it just like that, have they already started with any of the planing and stuff? If ever the movie will not deal with the Skywalker clan, perhaps they will appear as support characters instead of being in the lead role. Maybe Luke will be doing a Gui-Gon Jin on episode 7 and pass on the mantle of lead character to another Jedi to be the master of his kids? I dunno. That's what I'm thinking if they won't be following any of the established stories in the comics.

how much is actually confirmed about this?

I don't want to be teh cause of any rumour mongering, all I am aware of is that it is star wars ep VII and wikipedia doesn't have any information on premise or subtitle?

have they had any writers on board, I think it was mentioned that there is a treatment so the basic plot could be decided on but that is just what i heard.

well whatever happens, I am not precious about the existing franchise. I only watched each film once or twice so I think whatever they do could be good or bad merely depending on if they are a good director/producer etc.

it's not like George Lucas did such an amazing job on them, I fell asleep the second time i tried to watch episode II.

the info is on wikipedia, just not that extensive cause it was recently announced. http://en.wikipedia...._sequel_trilogy

Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) even comments about it.

!

I probably should have added all of this in from the start, my bad, I know that nobody likes to hear stories like these unless there is solid evidence of the news.

i can honestly say i'm really looking forward to the next movies...

in my opinion they should just do a TV series instead, but anyway...

i'm not a die hard star wars fan but i do really like it. i dont get why people bash anything other than the first 3 films released. OK ja ja ruined ep 1 but ep 2 and especially ep 3 were cool.

people dont like clone wars! why? the first animated clone wars was cool that actually came out between ep 2 and ep 3 and the more recent clone wars has had some really good episodes. i dont care if its canon i dont care if Lucas animated it by his own fair hand, etc. etc. i enjoyed it.

you know why i liked ep 3 because it was more 'real' than any of the other films - 4,5,6 were well made in the 70's n 80's they have that feel about them, ep 1 was ok, ep 2 was a stepping stone and 3 brought it home.. oh and 1,2,3 had actual light sabre fights in, something sorely lacking in the first 3.

if there isnt lots of light sabre duels in 7,8, 9 then i'm with everyone else, they will probably suck balls, but if they do have them in and the script is based on Lucas' ideas, and the effects are cool, and the mix of action, adventure and drama is good then i cant see how they can go wrong!

Ep 1- how does a begining 'start' with back story narative? Shouldn't the opening title roll have been "Long long ago and far far away" and been left at that? And Anakin looked a little too happy go lucky for me, considering he'll become the badest man in black in the galaxy.

Ep 2-Padame marries Anakin because he says he loves her while staring at her boobs? He looks like a creepy stalker. Weird marriage choice. He's so whiny.

Ep 3-Droids cry out in cartoon like pain. General Grevious comes out of nowhere. Anakin goes over to the dark side almost whimsically. And Padame dies because 'shes lost the will to live' after just giving birth to twins.

And this doesn't even cover the story line contradictions with Eps 4, 5, and 6.

How bad could they possibly make Ep 7?

it's all a matter of perspective. the things you wrote don't really bother me.

don't get me wrong, I thought episode 2 was drawn out and a bit dull, and out of the original trilogy, I only really like return of the jedi.

but the point i'm making is that we'll either like it or hate it on it's own merits, or we could go in wanting to hate it and end up picking out every niggle we see.

yeah the film may turn out a total pile of garbage. but i really doubt disney will get somebody like Uwe Boll on board to direct it.

I'm kinda shocked he admitted he's not a trek fan after he directed the movie...

It all makes sense now.

yeah, I saw the confirmation.

I have found a petition to stop him directing it.

I hope that in time, people will realise that this is bad news and will also sign the petition. http://www.change.org/petitions/disney-stop-j-j-abrams-from-directing-the-next-star-wars-film

If it goes ahead, then I will come to share some of you guys' views, that star trek 7 is not a true continuation of the series and that star trek ends at episode 6 (or 3, depending how you view it)

I know I said, that comment about Uwe Boll, but I honestly would prefer Uwe Boll to direct it in light of this recent news.

Now I still don't think he's a bad director or writer, but I would've Spielberg, Ron Howard, or James Cameron to direct the last three films as they are masters of handling epics. Trust me Ryuki, you never want Uwe Boll on a movie project ever. He will always tear a new one into any franchise he gets.

In all seriousness, this all stinks of rot, cause of Disney. Now I know they haven't really touched Marvel and all it's properties, but I'll doubt they'll have that same reservation with Star Wars especially since Lucas sold out the company to Disney directly. It's like he washed his hands of it, because knows he never needed to sell it, or was in any danger of bankruptcy.

I won't lie. I'm a huge star wars fan. I really got excited when i heard a new movie is coming out.

I will be extremely critical of this movie true, but i still have much enthusiasm despite jj abrams being the director.

I think it might of been ryuki who said that Abrams could do a good job along as there is no established canon to go by. Or something along those lines.

Disney already said that these movies aren't gonna follow the expanded universe. that its suppose to be its own unique storyline.

So there's not much to mess up.

Plus Abrams admits to bring a star wars fan and wants these movies done right.

I have a measure of hope.

I'm quite surprised at the backlash of J.J. Abrams. I don't find him offensive as a director in the slightest, he has a reasonably good nostaglic style.

But the fact is if not him who else is there? (If people say Peter Jackson I'll puke).

The fact is this could have been much worse and LUCAS could have been directing these you need to remember.

For Star Wars.... no, Peter Jackson made a mess of King Kong. He's not so hot is he really?

To make something feel epic.... and to respect the source.... To create interesting, believable characters...

Peter Berg ?

To be honest, I don't have a beef with JJ Abrams technical ability. I'm more concerned with his respect for the source.

If I believed he could remain true to Star Wars, then I would be perfectly happy.

I'm currently indifferent with JJ being the director, I had discussed this with Ryuki before but I might as well share my thoughts here, as most of us I grew up watching the original Star Wars trilogy, heck I still have the last vhs tapes that where released, it had a lot of influence in the way i view movies, heck it is the reason why I love practical effects over CG but after the new trilogy was released I lost interest entirely. Now if JJ is able to remain true to the source material or go beyond it to give us something we have never seen before then more power to him but as it stands I can't give my opinions on this decision since I have not really seen any of his work aside from Armageddon and Star Trek and both movies were so-so in my opinion, not bad but not good either, if he stays as director then I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, the only real gripe I have with him is that he has in his possession the 2 most popular and influential franchises in science fiction, that is a lot of responsibility for one man.

EDIT:

I just checked my youtube and this video came on my subscriptions update about episode 7, the movie will not be releasing on 2015 and there is also a rumor, watch the video to learn more.
