*Jess♥ Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 thanks wow, so an actual handgun? but does it shoot those balls on string thing? like a hookshot? I would be surprised if WB would put a gun in a cartoon? I mean, with all the bureaucracy in entertainment these days... Quote
Super Existence Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 I think Ulysees 31 was an anime but I'm not sure if that counts it was a collaboration between japan and france. Quote

I would be surprised if WB would put a gun in a cartoon? I mean, with all the bureaucracy in entertainment these days... WB was one of the few shows willing to show normal guns in a cartoon over the last 25 years. Looks at Batman TAS. In comparison Spiderman and other shows could only use Laser light guns. Even GI Joe used real looking gusn but with lasers. XD Quote

ErutanXiku Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 (edited) That's a pet-peeve of mine and my main fear regarding the new ThunderCats - it being re-identified as Anime, thus obliterating it's American roots. It's nice and all that they're going for the Japanese look, but I don't want it to be called something it's not. The same thing happened with Oban Star Racers (French made, Japanese animated) and The Last Airbender... Makes me wonder if should they reboot The Real Ghostbusters - should the third movie ever be released - would they do the same thing, since the series was also animated in Japan :/ EDIT: Link removed...my bad, Super Existence's one didn't work for me so I didn't know what it was [emote=onion]shame[/emote] Sorry! </EDIT> So yeah...his behaviour in the CGI movie teaser suits his mentality as a 12 year old in an adult's body, but that last scene... >.> Edited February 14, 2011 by ErutanXiku Quote

Aether Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 that cgi footage is horrible. the character designs suck. they look too 'real' as if they cgi ied a live action effort, whats the point??? if its cgi they have freedom to expand on the designs and the arrogance of lion was too cheesy. bah . ErutanXiku Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 Trailer is out: It certainly looks quite good and despite the Japanese style, I do like the character designs - they all look too good Quote
*Steel Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Looks like it pretty much all takes place on this reimagined Thundera. Looks quite intresting. I'm looking forward too it a bit more. Wasn't a huge fan when I was a kid. That fell to Transformers but I did like it a fair bit. Also I'm pretty sure Cheetara was my first ever crush Quote
ErutanXiku Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 ...Tygra... About the trailer though, it does seem to take place on Thundera; I just can't figure out who Lion-O seems to be fighting...it looks like his dad, Clawdius...My brother heard a rumour that possibly Lion-O and Tygra may be brothers in this, but I don't think that's likely... Quote
ErutanXiku Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 New Trailer! I certainly am going to watch this. It's going to be hard not to, since it's likely that my brother will remind me everytime it's on...like he does with Young Justice Quote
Toku Warrior Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 ...Tygra... About the trailer though, it does seem to take place on Thundera; I just can't figure out who Lion-O seems to be fighting...it looks like his dad, Clawdius...My brother heard a rumour that possibly Lion-O and Tygra may be brothers in this, but I don't think that's likely... In this new series, the kingdom is called Thundera which is located on an un-united 3rd Earth. And, yes, that was his dad he was fighting in sword combat and Tygra in the un-armed combat. And in this series, Tygra is now his adopted older brother. So, it seems that they made some changes that differ from the older series but it does keep some of the ideas and concepts and re-imagines them for a new generation. For those wondering, i got my info from the main CN website. Now here's the vocal cast of the series: Lion-O - Will Friedle Cheetara - Emmanuelle Chriqui Panthro - Kevin Michael Richardson Tygra - Mathew Mercer Claudus - Larry Kenney Grune, The Destroyer - Clancy Brown Mumm-Ra - Robin Atkins Downes Slythe - Dee Bradley Baker Jaga - Cory Burton For those who don't know, Larry Kenney, who's playing the voice of Claudus, is also the original voice from the original 1985 Lion-O. I'm so glad that they brought him in to this project. As for the new Lion-O, Will Friedle is best known for his work as the voice of Terry McGinnis of Batman Beyond. Clancy Brown, the voice of Grune, is also well known in the voice acting world as the voice of Lex Luthor in the Superman: Animated Series, Justice League/Justice League Unlimited and Superman/Batman: Public Enemies animated series/movies. Toku Warrior Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 Anyone who's watched Silverbolt go on a rant about the good thing in life like shows, movies and figures will know what to expect when they watch this. Also known as Dyansis, he had me laughing quite a bit...especially for when he talks about Cheetara. Quote
Aether Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 that silverbolt guy is funny and way to overexcited!! doesnt this air this Friday (29th)? cant wait to see it i think its gonna be awesome. i wonder how long it will take to be available to us outside the USA? not long i hope Quote
Aether Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 so i just watched the first 2 eps -and they were actually quite good!! the animation is awesome. it was a little bit slow to begin but any doubts were squashed when things kicked off so it was all good. a few minor points that were annoying 1. cool characters being killed off straight away!! 2. Panthro's sideburns or 'mutton chops'. 3. Mumm Ra's voice is not evil enough. 4. Lion O's eyes are blue!! 5. Tygra is a douche bag apart from point 1 above, i liked where the story is going. to me it seems a little like they are in a situation similar to the Thundercats 'the return' comic books. If these 2 eps are anything to go by, i would say warner brothers did a good job in hiring whoever they did to get this final product. i'll be watching next week anyway! yeah its not the old Thundercats - but its quite cool. Quote
ErutanXiku Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Just watched this last night and I liked it very much - I'm going to treat this as an AU as it sort of meshes everything together... Thundera being a city on Third Earth, rather than the two being separate planets Regarding characters... TYGRA! Being my favourite, he's still so cool but it niggles that his personality is the opposite of how he was...I can just seem some kind of rivalry forming; he's supporting Lion-O now, but he'll be 'seduced' by the evil whispers of an enemy (you know, the usual ego stroking, you should have been King crap?) yeah...he'll probably fall for that and turn on Lion-O for a while, or probably end up leaving and creating his own clan...that's just worst case, of course they can always surprise me. Cheetara...not too sure, apart from it seems fairly obvious that she'll probably get with Lion-O or there'll be some heavy three-way flirting. Snarf seems to have been demoted to token pet sidekick as opposed to nanny/servant As for the episodes... The first one felt like it had been spaced better while the second one seemed very condensed. Especially the moment when Lion-O says the chant and blasts Mumm-Ra...I felt a bit more lead up could have been had, like a mini-duel that backs Lion-O into a corner and he has this moment of clarity - overused, but I think it could have worked well here. Also the end...that seemed a little odd, the way it was placed so abruptly... I suppose it could have spread across 3-4 episodes for a healthy pace? But then you'd have to tune in next week, or they'd have to do a 2-hour special (I wouldn't complain) Quote
Matt Bellamy Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 Just some of my thoughts on the new show: Overall: Loved it. I always thought the space aspect was a rather poor way of handling the old series. "The Lost Kingdom" thing has been done lots of times before, so it's nothing new... but it fits with the new Thundercats really well. Lion-O - No more of this "Young Man in Full Grown Mans Body" crap. He's kinda stereotypical in a few ways... But considering it's a remake of such an old show, I'll let it pass for now. Tygra - Yeah... He's a bit of a dick... For now. But I think it's more of a brotherly rivalry than anything... I don't see Tygra as the type to defect... But now that Lion-O is lord of the Thundercats, he will still be a counter voice to Lion-O. In some ways, he'll be the "Wolverine" of the team. He'll follow Lion-O and be all badass... But will let Lion-O know when he screws up. Cheetara - Badass. The idea behind her being a "Cleric" is pretty awesome... Cause it means she might eventually use powers like Jaga did, other than her speed. If not, she's still a highly skilled fighter. Panthro - I doubt he is dead. I HIGHLY doubt they would have splashed him all over the promo pictures if they weren't going to keep him around. Besides, he's always been one of the primary Thundercats. He will return. Snarf - YES! OH THANK GOD YES! I really like the fact they didn't keep him the same. It suits the idea better I think. Jaga - Bad. Ass. 'nuff said. Wilykit/Wilykat - They kinda skipped over their reasoning for leaving the shelter... They should have ran into the guy they swindled earlier or something. Hopfully they prove themselves useful. So far so good though. Can't wait for more. Quote
odin Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 really liking the new Thundercats series, when i was younger i did not watch thundercats a lot but when i did I always like it and the opening theme was always badass. as for the new series like i said i like it.... so far, I wanted to like Lion O the most since I love lions and all that but the latest episodes have me grinding my teeth for how they are developing him, it feels like they are rushing it or can't decide on how his personality will be, let me explain in the spoilers: in the first episode I loved how they portrayed him, with a lot of imagination, a dreamer, against prejudice and fun, yes the killing of his father is a good reason to change his character a bit but the way they are doing it are making him go to different emotions too fast, in the 3rd episode he goes ALL CAPS RAGE!! not following jagas mission to look for the book of omens and instead wants to go for mum ra's head but after a little lesson from someone who was going trough something similar thing but takes it too far he learns his mistake and continues jagas mission, all dandy and a good start to developing his character but right in the next episode his mood changes again but this time he is a bit Emo and is reluctant to fight, seriously? I really can't buy him doing something like that after learning what he did in the previous episode, the episode was good but i feel that it could have been put as a later episode after facing something that is making him question his resolve but instead they put it right after he goes through 1 emotional wall. aside from all that from lion O all the other characters are great, Love Cheetara, Tygra is cool too having all the traits that are needed for a Brother/Rival, They finally shut up snarf, and I can't say much about the kittens since they have not done much but are not annoying so it's a good start, oh and the enemies are actually intimidating which is awesome. Quote
Aether Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 (edited) im gonna be controversial here and say i liked / didnt mind the old snarf - not all the time as he was annoying in certain episodes - but he was part of the charm of the original show. however if he wasnt going to be a badass in this new version its probably best hes in a silent companion guise seeing as Lion-O dosnt really need a nanny! episode 3 - a bit meh, but probably necessary episode 4 = coooool, i really liked the story and the ending kicked ass does anyone know 1. if there is any intro theme to this? i havent heard one. if there isnt one, what a waste, they should have just stuck the old one one because im sure we all agree its flippin awesome . i can see why they didnt do one for the first episode but come on!! and 2. how many episodes are scheduled for the season?? Edited August 18, 2011 by Eether Quote
Toku Warrior Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 If it's anything like the rest of CN's series (Young Justice, Teen Titans, Ben 10) then Season 1 will between 13-21 episodes long. As for any OP. They haven't done one yet though I was hoping they'd either reuse the old series OP or do a more mythical remix of it for this new series. That would have been nice either way. Quote
ErutanXiku Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 I dunno...after watching the latest episode, I feel like the overall series is going to be pretty 'meh'...the pacing is just horribly off. I realise that they're probably commissioned to do a particular number of episodes, but I feel they could have spread a few stories out a bit. The characterisations are a bit off too - Tygra just seems to want to challenge Lion-O on everything he plans to do - they've just made him an ass for no reason; I have no idea who he's supposed to be - Lion-O, we must find the book! (Lion-O: I want revenge!) Lion-O, we must get revenge! (Lion-O: We must find the book!) I really feel that Panthro's acceptance of Lion-O could have been drawn out a bit and that he could take more of a mentor/Vizier/advisor kind of role with him, as opposed to You're our new King? You suck! You've barely grown your 'big boy' mane -> OMG! You truly are worthy, I shall serve you! Cheetara hitting on Lion-O at almost every opportunity is pretty annoying, but then she's hardly done anything else besides that. I really liked Snarf in the old series - he was badass when the stakes were on the line, but they've just reduced him to 'cute' sidekick/pet. If they didn't want him to be a Nanny, they could have at least made him like a blacksmith (you know, the Snarf sub-species being similar to Dwarves...?) A question...what do you reckon happens to their tails? Kit and Kat have theirs and Panthro used to...what happened to them? :/ I do like the 'bigger picture' and the story they're trying to tell, but I wish it was paced better with clearer characterisations...
