Shion Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Well of course it's not DBZ. The movie is based around the first manga series Dragonball hence why Piccolo is a demon in this movie instead of a Namekian. In DB they didn't know Namkeians existed until it becane DBZ.But, yeah. Like you, I also have no hope for it either. i see. still it s*** A** movie. if it Were to be a GCI !!! no human actors. i would be thrilled to watch it in a instand. =P Quote
*BananaKing Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Well at least the last animated movie was good. Even if all of the DBZ movies pretty much suck, they're at least better than this stupid thing will be Quote
Toku Warrior Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Hey, not all of the 13 movies sucked. #9 where Gohan fought Bojack in the inter-galactic tournament and went SSJ2 for the first time in the DBZ movies series was noted as the best DBZ movie ever. Now if they could make a new DB-Z-GT animated movie using the style of the animation that you see in the second and third Budokai games then that'd be sweet. Quote

TOTALY!!!! The history of Trunks and Bardocks Movies WERE EFFIN COOL!! i would sure like to see NEW DBZ in Tenkachi budokai Style. Quote
Mirabilis Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 NO GT! I hated GT!. No way did the 13 movies suck. The Dead Zone was awesome! And so was Tree of Might and World's Strongest. The Dead Zone was even converted into the Garlic Jr. Saga. If any movies sucked it would be after Broly The Second Coming, but even that was little ifish. That one was pushing it just beyond the line but it was still ok, but after that they should of left them alone. In the movie Bardock, they should of shown the seen where King Vegeta attacked Freiza's ship, between Bardock's return to Planet Vegeta, and then flying into outer space to fight him. I think it would of been really cool to see that. Quote
Shion Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 (edited) GT was Bull S*** ! bio brolly was F***ed Up. Lord Slug was not even worth watching. And Bardocks movie was kinda Good. the visions of goku was weird, when you see the Freeza Saga. Edited April 1, 2009 by Shion Quote
*BananaKing Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I do agree, not all of the dbz movies sucked, but the brunt of them did. Dead Zone was the best because it was back when the series was still in those DragonBall power levels. But movies like: Super 13, Bojack, Bio-Broly. That dbgt movie with great grandson goku was horrible Quote
Bobby Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 I liked Dragonball & Dragonball Z. My primary forum's last Anime Poll for our current banner was Dragonball theme and this image won: Quote
Shion Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 DB evolution doesnt even try to make the characters look like the Original ones. >( Quote
ParaParaJMo Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 I downloaded this movie and it's a piece of crap, but it's at least better than Legend of Chun Li and Catwoman if that means anything. If Asia has an Uwe Boll, it's James Wong. If I were George Lucas, I'd tell Wong that it makes me regret ever disowning Howard the Duck. The acting is so terrible, it makes Vin Diesel look as talented as Marlon Brando. The movie is so epic fail to the point it makes the Mario movie with Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo look like an oscar!!! Compared to the live action Hokuto no Ken movie, it actually makes it more faithful looking to its original source material. And you know those youtube videos of Hitler saying this movie sucks? Well, the German translated in those videos is more accurate than what was translated from the original source material to this cluster f**k of a movie. I think Legend of Chun Li will ultimately sweep the razzies, but I can see Emmy Rossum winning worst supporting actress and I can see Chris Klein and Chow Yun Fat competing for worst supporting actor. Quote
durendal Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 This is really sad. To see one of my favorite actors, Chow Yun Fat, being bashed just because of a bad movie he's in. Sadder still, the producer Stephen Chow is a huge Dragonball fan, as can be reflected in majority of his movies. I don't think there is anything wrong with the cast and crew of the movie, well, except the guy who played Goku, it's just that General American tastes are totally different from the taste of a long time fan. Hollywood always fails in coverting anything Japanese based to the big screen. They should just fund the movie and leave the directing to the Japanese without restrictions. Just compare Final Fantasy the Spirits within and Final Fantasy VII Advent Children and you'll know what I'm talking about. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 I think the problem is that some people may be closed minded. some films are just for fun and not meant to be taken seriously. I watched dragon wars which people say was terrible, but i enjoyed it. Quote

*BananaKing Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 They need to make a movie about the original Dragon Ball hunt. Kid Goku and Teenage Bulma chasing after the seven balls for the first time! That would be a great adventure movie and a much better DB movie than this one Quote
Shion Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 yea, i like it if they do that. those were some good times. Quote
ParaParaJMo Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 The thing is, Dragon Ball is a long established product for the past 25 years. So people already have a clear expectation and understanding of Dragon Ball if they did at all follow it from a casual to hardcore level. Keep in mind this is not just Americans who are pissed, but Asians hated it as well. And after seeing this movie, none of this movie at all represented what I love about Dragon Ball. I think a lot of us want to give it a chance. I have tried watching Uwe Boll movies, Legend of Chun Li, and Catwoman with an open mind, and in the end they're all drenn along with Dragonball Evolution which I also was willing to give a chance. The only credit I can give Dragonball Evolution is its at least better than Catwoman, but I still put it in the level of the House of the Dead or any other Uwe Boll movie. But I never thought I would ever say that the Mario movie and Howard the Duck were masterpieces compared to it. Quote
Bobby Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Just got back from seeing it. IT ROCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will talk about it in my next video blog. Quote
Mirabilis Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Did it meet your expectations, or go over it, or not at all? This is interesting because the preview really makes it almost not worth wanting to watch it. I guess "dont judge a book by its cover". But still it is Dragonball, I mean alot of fans will love it, and alot of fans will hate it. but thats with everything I suppose. Quote
LordSpleach Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Just got back from seeing it. IT ROCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will talk about it in my next video blog. That statement confuses me, so I'll probably see the movie when it comes out on DVD. Quote
Toku Warrior Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Well I went and saw it last night. Here's my review. Warning, may be a bit spoilery so you may want to skip this post if you haven't seen and want to....or just read it if you don't plan on seeing it. Cast - Not a bad choice. Chow Yun-fat actually portrayed Roshi perfectly in some poin. The guy who played Yamcha got his cocky attitude down to a T but he still lacked something. Bulma....somewhat like her japanese counterpart but just a bit more dense in some place but not the "I'm gonna wish for the perfect boyfriend" 16 yr oold we're all used to. Chi Chi, typical high school girl who knows how to fight and she actually acts like a total love interest for Goku and his incintive for ki control. She was portrayed to an ok extent but she just didn't have that certain omph that the original Chi Chi had. Must be the lacking in her bossiness factor. Mai & Piccolo - Mai was ok but nothing like her manga and anime counterpart. I didn't really care that much for her character. Piccolo, I must admit that James Marsters did a pretty good job portraying him. Not as evil as the original King Piccolo but he did a good job. Goku - I didn't really like him because of how high his high school emo factor was done but he did do ok in a few points. I'll give him credit towards the end (around the last 15-20 minutes of the movie). He did nice there. Other than it was nothing to write home about. Plot - Not a bad concept. I'll admit it's more modern than original but it was still a nice concept. Not the best in the world but definentely good. Musical score - The music was nice and it did help with the flow of the movie. I actually liked the ending credits as they actually used a Japanese song for the ending track. At most I'll DL the OST for the movie. Graphics - I must say that the graphics, SFX, CGI, etc...were really cool. I especially loved how they did the energy/ki attacks. Some of the best work I've seen. Rating - Overall, my personal rating for this movie would be a 6 out of 10. It has a nice flow though it does lack quite a bit in a few areas. My say is...go see it if you want to or having nothing else to do. Other than that just either DL it or wait for its DVD and Blue Ray release. Quote

But still it is Dragonball, I mean alot of fans will love it, and alot of fans will hate it. but thats with everything I suppose. It met my expectations & more. The only problem was Goku missing his tail. But that's understandable. Not to mention the actresses who played Chi Chi, Bulma & Mai were HOT. After I got home from seeing it, I looked up info on the movie and found out that the actress who played Mai played the 17th Century Japanese Girl that Hiro Nakamura fell in love with on "Heroes" Season Two. And the girl who played Chi Chi was on MTV's Real World. I will talk about my thoughts of the movie in my next video blog. And it's understandable as to why Pwar & Oolong were not in this. Extremely hard to explain a flying cat & a walking, talking pig both of whom can shapeshift. Quote
Larz Zahn Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 ok now i am not a big fan of the dbz world. i actually went to this movie expecting to make fun of its horrible retailing of the original dragonball story. i also expected to flee from the theater for my life, cause i was going to really let if fly. i was let down... besides a few things i can nit pick about, the movie in it self wasnt a complete failure. so i didnt say a whole lot about it in the theater, which was dissappointing.. ok, goku, like how they did his hair. im fine with the no tail bit, and that he needed a ecplise of the full moon to go ape. i was actually surprised he went ape, i didnt think they would throw that lil tid bit in there. like toku said, i was most upset about goku being all emo... he wasnt the lucky go happy thick headed goku that he was in the anime. nor did he want to fight for the sake of its a fight, and its fun. when he walked into that tournament to see chichi, he should of been drooling.... at the fights, not chichi. but also, he didnt have his famous hunger. bulma. nice, no complaints. i even liked how they threw in the capsule tech too. plus, she reminds me of kimberly from the original powerrangers. yamacha... yeah.. i was never a fan of yamcha, but they got him good, for the most part, still the desert theif, still a numbskull, still liked bulma.lol. gohan.. dude. i liked grampa! he was awesome!! roshi... they did ok, but they really downplayed his perversion factor, which to me, is half his charm. i did like how he was all, IM INVINCIBLE BWAHAHAHAHA. that made me smile. piccolo. i liked him pretty good. i liked his voice, he still had the piccolo deep scary voice. and he had his regen factor, which you only saw in the mutant monstrosities he made. but it was cool. plus, he was painted green! graphics. top notch. all the way. my only complaint here is that they went the with elemental ki instead of the traditional pure energy ki. not that it didnt look cool, i just think it would of looked cooler if it was kept old school. so because of this, i like piccolos energy colors the best. fights were out of this world, but my favorite was at the party. that made me feel great. i like. i'd give it a 7. i was surprised it was as accurate as it was. i was expecting something like the jean claude streetfighter movie. Mirabilis Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Well since they're going with the whole live action movie thing, this is how I think they should do it. Film #1: should be about the fight between Goku and Piccolo. So people will understand their relationship for future films. Film #2: have Raditz, goku's brother come to earth. Have him explain Goku's past, parents and homeworld, and be the main villain in the film. Introduce Kid Gohan, and have it end with gohan showing a little bit of his true power and with Raditz and Goku dying. have Raditz explain to Piccolo that Nappa and Vegeta will be coming for the DragonBalls because of what Piccolo said. Film #3: have Nappa and Vegeta be the main villains. Nappa would get killed, but Vegeta would escape barely with his life. Introduce Tien, Chouitzu and Krillin. Show some more of Gohan's true potential. Film #4 (last Film): Have it be about Garlick Jr. Make it were he gains immortality, and he has all 7 desciples (Ginger, Nikki, Sansho, Spice, Vinger, Mustard, and Salt) each one would get a different Dragonball, and show awesome power. Vegeta, Goku, and Piccolo would fight Garlick Jr. but in the end they would all be defeated and Gohan would be the one that defeated him by knocking him in the Dead Zone. I think that this would be the bes way, for the movie industry, to turn DB and DBZ into live action films without making it too corny. Quote
Bobby Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 They did a live action movie. Released this month. And there is a big fight between Goku & Piccolo. Interesting Factoid: The director is the same guy who directed the first & third Final Destination Movies. Horror movies about people meant to die in a disaster but are saved when someone has a premonition and they end up dying in horrific accidents. Quote
Shion Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Lol. The dragonball is gone in this movie. I want a nother goku and a better script. XD Quote
