hey guys, I'm interested in learning what you eat.

I'm mainly interested in breakfasts at the moment.. I want to elarn what people around he world eat for breakfast.

generally in hte UK, we will eat breakfast cereal. cornflakes or rice crispies with milk. or some other similar boxed grain based food.

just recently I have gone off it. the idea of a bowl of grain stuff covered in milk just isn't appealing anymore. I sometimes force myself to eat it just so I have eaten something.. but i want an alternative.

I know that in japan they often have miso soup for breakfast. I think I might like that, but the only miso soup i could get was some powdered stuff off the internet and i don't think it was very good.

well I am looking forward to learning about your meal habits guys :)

If you don't want to try the powdered miso base, then why not make your own? I'm sure there are tons of site that tell you how to make a wide variation of Miso Soup.

Also for breakfast, I don't have a staple food. Sometimes I eat cereal, sometime I eat rice, there are times when I eat sandwiches. Porridge also can be served as breakfast. Right now, I'm eating chocolate oatmeal.

sandwiches, i like. but it would seem odd to eat for breakfast.

I guess if I am to travel, I need to get rid of my silly preconceptions though.

When i eventually live in japan, I don't want to be the westerner that stinks of dairy products.

I intend to adapt completely to their diet.

make my own miso? i guess that would take a lot of effort. I can't be bothered to cook my own tea so i doubt i'd cook for breakfast.

i do wonder though.. if perhaps i simply bought a bad type of miso.

chocolate oatmeal? I do not know what oatmeal is.. it may be that we call it something else here.

vguyver, what is oves moles?

i use to eat bacon eggs and grits for breakfast. or ceral. but now i dont actually eat breakfast anymore. if im dyin for something then i'll go to mcdonalds and get a mcgriddle or something otherwise i normally skip it.

you eat grit???

but grit is like ground rock...

cream of wheat?

dunno.. also..

in hte matrix, that guy mentions tasty wheat, which i also don't know.

all these things...

Posted

haha. nah its grits.. its... um.. dang... creamy, tiny grained ground corn.. but you put butter and and salt or any other spices ya want in it and its pretty good. im sure someone else can give ya a better discription. i suck at discriptions. sorry.

Well for grits here a wiki for it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grits

As for oatmeal, it's composition is mostly oats. So when you cook it, it has a porridge like substance. For comparison, when you eat it, it tastes like a tiny cornflake soaked in chocolate.

And an added comment on BK's post. If you eat Banana's, won't you be resorting to cannibalism?

Additionally, sometimes I eat sausages and salami. Also Ryuki, if you are going to live in a foreign country living alone, you will need to learn to cook, as this will help save on food expenses. You also might want to take note that in asian countries, there is a high percentage of Men who knows how to cook. Besides, cooking is a plus factor for the ladies.

I never usually wake up early enough for breakfast or have breakfast but I usually go with scrambled eggs or toast with cheese, toasted sandwiches with chicken loaf, cheese & tomatoes... or just pasta, but that's more of a lunch thing since I usually wake up at 12.

Ok, let's see.

Pizza

cereal

oatmeal

eggs

bacon

ham

sandwhiches

grits

oatmeal

cream-o-wheat

pop-tarts

toast

soup

Of course, I'm not usualy up until around 10-1030 AM so I don't usually eat breakfast anymore. Know I just eat lunch which can be:

Pizza

toast

hot pockets

pizza rolls

or leftovers

Some people say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You need lots of energy to start out your day, and one way of getting energy is to eat a healthy breakfast. Normally it is recommended that you eat the most breakfast, average amount for lunch, and a little for dinner. The logic here is that at night, you don't spend much energy because you are going to be sleeping, thus you won't be burning much calories.

I usually take my breakfast at around 7 am. I used to wake up at 10-11 in the morning and eat brunch instead, but it makes me feel sluggish for the rest of the day.

My favorite breakfast so far is a Hungarian Sausage. They taste way much better than regular hotdogs.

well toku, I am getting up around 2pm these days and i still try to eat breakfast. ^^;

that grits is sure new to me. I never heard of anything like it. if it's like ground corn.. I guess it must be similar to soggy cornflakes

oatmeal sounds cool. I sometimes been known to eat muesli in hte past, I guess it could be considered similar in some ways to that.. but now i can't stomach muesli. not enough variety in a bowl of stuff. especioally if it's quite filling stuff. I mean.. soup is good because it's mostly liquid. it makes you feel clean and fluid-y.

I like to feel fluid-y. XD

yah durendal, I realy have tried to learn to cook in the past. it sucks that in this generation parents have just given up passing on cooking knowledge.. I have to resort to cookbooks for the simplest things and then.. because it is so simple, it's so hard to find a book that will contain that simple recipe. i mean, I only recently discovered that butter goes well with vegetables. it's kinda embarrassing to be honest.

I like cooking.. but if i gotta keep myself interested i'd have to learn a new recipe every day, and that would be very expensive on hte ingredients. so i just can't do it, I would only cook one thing a week and now I just don't bother. :(

so what's creamowheat? is it just like oatmeal only with wheat and no oats?

ah yes durendal, I wholeheartedly agree with this.

that is why i try and force myself to eat breakfast. because it is the surest way to keep your weight healthy.

eat good food when you most need it and don't eat any carbs towards your bedtime.

if you get hungry before you go to bed, a bit of fruit is good to have, but no carbs.

also, if you go to the gym, a bit of lean protein before you go to bed can be ok.

I try to concentrate on getting moist carbs early in hte day and protein and veggies at night.

so lunch might be some rice or couscous or something like that, tea would be some meat and veg.

when i say veg, potato doesn't count. potato counts as a carb.

Ah, cooking. Nobody actually taught me how to cook. When I was small I always helped out in the kitchen and that's how I managed to learn how to prepare meals. You don't actually need new ingredients to come up with new recipe. You just use whatever you get and improvise. French toast for example. Just beat up some eggs, put some milk and sugar, dip some bread in it and fry it. Or beat some eggs, mix some vegetables, a little salt and a pinch of pepper and some cheese and then fry, now you have an omelette. Change the vegetables to ham or something similar and you will have a different kind of omelette.

Looking at the cookbook will be very expensive because they will ask you to buy this and buy that. What they don't usually tell you is that you can substitute some ingredients and still taste the same. For example, apples are expensive in our area, so to make apple pie, we substitute apple for gourd, and you won't know the difference. (Of course how you prepare this plays an important part)

Also, if you have left over rice, pop in your frying pan some eggs, salts and chop some left over hotdog and you get fried rice.

Here's some simple sweet desert that you can easily prepare. This is some sort of pudding.

You mix half a dozen egg yolks (yes, the yellow stuff, and remove the egg whites), mix it with sweetened milk (about 50/50 portion), and batter until the texture is very fine. And then heat some sugar and water in a pastry pan until the sugar turns golden brown. This will be used as a lining so the batter would not stick to the pan. Then pour the battered egg yolk into the pan, but make sure that there are no more bubbles in the mix. Then steam in moderate flame for 20 minutes. And you've got yourself a Milk Flan. This is one of my favorite deserts.

omg durendal!! that is rich !!

I would feel ill at the thought of eating that

mm steak sandwich sounds yumy :D

I ate ready brekk today. actually it was quite nice :)

it's like porridge, but it doesn't take as long. you can put sugar and salt in it just like porridge, and when you stir it it's hard to mix properly so some parts are salty and asome are sugary. very nice.

What? Why would you feel ill? Is it because you see it as protein? I'm not suggesting that you eat that in one sitting. Also, when you steam it, it no longer has the properties as a raw egg would have. Hmm.... searched a wiki and I saw that this is what you guys would call a caramel custard or Creme Caramel.

Apparently, they didn't mention that the custard base comes from egg and milk. Of course alternatives are available.
