hellsing was cool. but i cannot remember which one i watched.

the theme was "the world without logos". love it.

I'm currently... just finished natsume yuujinchou san.

and about to move onto natsume yuujinchou shi.

after shi, I will be left with no more natsume and nyanko sensei :(

unless the gracious anime producers decide to give us the gift of natsume yuujinchou go/itsu !

I'm also still watching gintama. does anyone else watch this at all ?

i havent heard of natsume yuujinchou san and havent seen Gintama, but this discussion reminds me of the '' if you like Naruto..'' thread where you asked for recommendations..

in there i remember saying i was going to give Bleach a try but that i didnt excpect much. Ive always thought even without seeing it that Naruto would be better than it, but you have all the fanboys saying oh Bleach is way cooler so i had to check it out for myself...

well now i can categorically state after seeing over 160 eps of Bleach that it is nowhere near as good as Naruto. nowhere near.

dont get me wrong (apart from the anime filler which is annoyingly long and mostly crap introducing annoying crap characters) it is enjoyable, it is cool, it kind of is a bit DBZ with swords ( and i suspect its popular with some males because of the female characters chests present - even competing with Tsunade chans!) but seriously, compared to Naruto Bleach has no,... has no soul (which is an ironic thing to say for a series about 'soul reapersi / shinagam /death gods)

anyway currently its the only anime that im watching apart from Naruto, and after nearly 2 years of saving episodes i only just watched the five kage summit Arc which was ufkin amazin!! but now im back to some filler....

natsume yuujinchou san is the third series of natsume yuujinchou :)

if you keep your eye on any anime media, you might recognise nyanko sensei.

cheers for the lowdown on Bleach.

I figured it would be something like that. you and I have similar taste I think so I can be safe in the knowledge that I will probably not like it.

I'm currently watching a series called Magi: the labyrinth of magic, it is the story of a boy named Aladdin who is a Magi and his wants to travel the world as he uncovers the purpose of his existence which is so far to choose a candidate for being a king and his first is a guy called Alibaba Saluja. The story is rich with Middle east Mythology  as well influence from the story One Thousand and one nights which is something you don't see a lot these days since you mostly see european or chinese or Japanese influence. I grew up watching ray harryhausen movies like "the seventh voyage of sinbad" so I welcome this breath of fresh air, I hope this series will be as good as it looks so far cause I'm loving it so far.

I've been involved in finishing my Gundam series. I was working on Gundam Seed there for awhile but went back and just finished Gundam Wing again (few minutes ago) for the 3rd time I think. Now need to get back to Seed. Just so many Gundam Series it can get overwhelming lol. I was working on F91 a few days ago but I didn't finish it-it just seems to be a repeat of Amuro and such I dunno, I know they use the same theme over and over alot in Gundam and use the Char clones alot too which is fine but I guess I don't like the same stories repeated over every time, maybe why Seed started to turn me off and I went back to Wing. I will say War In The Pocket was phenomenal and will always be one of my favorites. =]

If I were you, I would skip Seed altogether and move on to Double O or even AGE.  F91 wasn't really a solid movie, but you have to account for that if you want Crossbone Gundam, now that's were the good stuff happens.  If you liked War in the Pocket, then I'm sure you'll love 0083 Stardust Memory.  To this day, I have to say it was one of the finest gundam story ever told.  It's something like a prequel to Z Gundam.

You missed out V Gundam, Igloo, F91 and Unicorn for the UC series.

For the Alternate universe, you still have X, Turn A (or Turn Away as I'd like to call it), SEED, SEED Destiny (highly unrecommended), Stargazer, OO and AGE.

You might want to check out the manga Crossbone Gundam.  Sentinel is also nice.  I wish they'd animate this.  I had the whole novel posted in this forum, but I think it already got deleted.

Isn't there also one where the Gundams are fighting over Isreal or so? I thought I saw that on the scifi channel about 3 years ago looked interesting but had no clue what was going on lol.

I don't seem to remember any Gundam that involved Israel.  But I think you might be pertaining to Gundam 00, since the series involves conflict in a region much similar to the middle east.  I would recommend that series.  It's a fresh take on Gundam after the disappointing Seed Destiny that precedes it.

Due to the long holiday weekend, I was bored and told myself, "hey, why not watch some random anime".  Navigated to Dannychoo.com and looked for something that might be interesting.  I saw in some of his posts about a random giant monster that looks like a skinless man.  Searched for it and decided on that.  I was initially going to watch one episode only, first to pass the boredom, and second to get a feel of the anime if it is worth watching.  Surprised was I that it was a good series.  The series is titled "Shingeki no Kyoji" or known in english as "Attack on Titan".

Here's a short description based on mangareaders:

Several hundred years ago, humans were nearly exterminated by giants. Giants are typically several stories tall, seem to have no intelligence, devour human beings and, worst of all, seem to do it for the pleasure rather than as a food source. A small percentage of humanity survived by walling themselves in a city protected by extremely high walls, even taller than the biggest of giants. Flash forward to the present and the city has not seen a giant in over 100 years. Teenage boy Elen and his foster sister Mikasa witness something horrific as the city walls are destroyed by a super giant that appears out of thin air. As the smaller giants flood the city, the two kids watch in horror as their mother is eaten alive. Elen vows that he will murder every single giant and take revenge for all of mankind. Nominated for the 4th Manga Taisho Awards (2011).

Yes, it was originally a manga. But I felt that the anime fleshes out the characters very well.  Turns out, my little curiosity kept me up late at night to watch this.  I'm already up to episode 14 and things looks good.

Yes! I'm also monitoring Shingeki no Kyojin anime. Trying to avoid manga because I don't want it to spoil an anime for me.

First thing I noticed - great quality of graphics. Second - cool mystery plot, last time I felt something similar while reading Gantz.

I have seen a lot about this one. attack on titan. yes it is certainly intriguing.

I have not watched anime in such a long time, but as a few people seem to be watching this one right now, maybe i'll join in?

Just finished all of "Darker than Black" which had a gained a nickname "Chinese Electric Batman". Even the one time appearing super powered characters fan favorite nicknames like "The Hamburger Eating Flash" who is a character that has super speed with surprisingly realistic limits... as with other characters in this show, whenever he uses his power, he is required to eat a hamburger. This worries him about getting fat, so he offers his enemies a bite if they give up and spare him anymore use of his power. This series is filled with comical quirks like this, but this is dark violent and horrific at times. I've seen hearts torn off, blood exploding, ninja's, martial arts, and decaying corpses. This series just does everything well.

Overall, the first season was particularly jaw dropping. The action scenes are sparse, but when they do appear, you get blown away, story pacing is good, and characters are memorable. The Premise and plot are strange but keeps sucking you in. Each plot arc was always two self contained episodes with larger hidden arcs spread through the entire season. So two episodes are always like a hollywood short or a star trek Episode, it works great. The characters, powers, and themes will all draw you in.

I didn't like the second season all that much though, in fact I nearly disowned the first half of it after it crushed much about why I liked the first season. Yet, after watching the OVA miniseries that explained what happened between the two seasons (There was a 2-3 year time skip), I suddenly find it a bit more acceptable. Besides Season II did have some incredibly fun characters, but boy was it messed up in it's humor and creepy pedo humor. Also they cut off the length of the season, which meant the arcs got cut from the two episode formula that made it so awesome. They also missed out on the golden opportunities for awesome character exploration by insisting on following dumb useless characters. Why follow a love struck  2 dimensional teen, when they could of paid way more attention to his father, a cross dressing single hard working father with an acceptance of reality? Mind boggling!

Oh and Attack on Titan, just learned about it and plan on watching it myself. So I'm with you guys in getting into that series too.

Gundam Build Fighters seems to be interesting.  Very heavy reference to older Gundam Titles.  It's fun to see kids build Plastic Models and watch them pit it against other plastic models in a battle.  Although this looks like a big divergence to the war concept of Gundam, I'm worried that this has become more of a children's show that it is for older viewers.  I mean, the last Gundam has some lighter elements, but it still deals with war.  But this one?  I don't know.  It only remains to be seem how well the viewers will accept this.  To me it looks more like an excuse to sell more Gunpla.  Literally.

I don't know why so many keep thinking Gundam wasn't directed at kids. Since the first incarnation, the show was sponsored by sunrise to sell toys as far as production was. But the series designer and creator added more to it giving it some actual merit as a show. They had to compromise on a lot. The original gundam design was a mostly grey  color, but that wouldn't grab childrens eyes, so they had to repaint the design in a red, yellow, blue, and white design. There's a reason it's called white devil instead of rainbow devil. The original series had poor ratings, but big toy sales, that kept it afloat.

I think what changed was that, after the success, they could start writing more mature and darker plots, which was great as the audience grew up. But it was never able to let go of the silly childrens relations, and thus, like a bungee cord, it always got pulled back into that territory. If you have a G Gundam directors notes, you'll crack up because of the purposely done terrible designs of some gundams and the space colonies, all designed for what young children could recognize as a national stereotype.

It seems all the great adult things, tend to be the major spin off's or direct to video works.
