segawdcd Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Hi, New to the forum. Just curious if it's still possible to get the scanlations for the latest 3 volumes if I purchase the physical books and can prove that I own them. I ordered them today and just want to get caught up on the 3 volumes that aren't available anywhere in english. Thanks so much! Quote
segawdcd Posted March 1, 2019 Author Posted March 1, 2019 Nevermind I found the access threads. I'll wait until the books come in and then request access at that time. Thanks 1 Quote
segawdcd Posted March 5, 2019 Author Posted March 5, 2019 Thanks for the welcome guys! I appreciate it and my copies of the volumes are arriving tomorrow! Excited to get access shortly after. Hope the hiatus ends and we get new chapters in the near future. I need to know what happens! 1 Quote

Well, much like the welcome to the forum... welcome to the waiting game! We have all been anxiously awaiting the next chapter. Since 2016. The site lead, Sully posts every month the cover to the next Shonen Ace in search of Guyver mentions. It's a long ride but a fun one. Quote

Yeah I know some feel like it'll never end up getting finished. I wish the series was more well known and popular, I think then it would have been much more prolific with chapters. Guess we'll see. On the plus side for me my books came the other day. Just waiting for access to be granted now and look forward to catching up! Quote

I think it will get finished eventually. Books 30-32 really ramp up things for sure. We'll have to nerd out once you've read them! 1 Quote

Back when there wasn't much anime available and you had to order from a catalogue. I was lucky that the local Blockbuster had the first 2 US renditions OVA's with the 3rd one to follow not long after that. It was years before I even knew about the other OVAs to follow. Guyver was always the slow burn series for me so I'm used to waiting long periods of time for more. I really do hope it finishes eventually and that more people find out about it. 1 Quote

It was a nerd badge of honor to talk about any anime you watched. Guyver was at my blockbuster too, but I first saw it at a place called specs in St. Pete. The first tape was like $20 and I had to buy it. My local comic shop had the viz comics and graphic novels, so I bought them all. 1 Quote
segawdcd Posted March 25, 2019 Author Posted March 25, 2019 Just caught up on the latest books. Can't believe it went on hiatus in the middle of a battle! Glad I got to catch up though. Really hope it finishes eventually. At the end of the chapter there was an interview with the creator in which he expressed his need to finish it up. I hope he was sincere and is taking the time to get it done and just release it after. Gonna be on my deathbed waiting for that last chapter. 1 Quote
Gazham Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 We are all hoping too! I remain confidant that we will see an end to it, it just might take a while, just like berserk is! Hopefully he just burnt out and is recuperating whilst plotting the end. 1 Quote

If he's just taking a breather then I can't be mad at him. Just hope he hasn't forgotten about the fans even though Guyver isn't the smash hit other mainstream manga are. Quote
Tora Tan Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 taking a breather for 3 years? I'd say we can be plenty mad. It's pretty clear that he fell out with kadokawa over something. They probably wanted him to produce more substantial work. The chapters did become increasingly meagre. Quote
durendal Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 You have to wonder, given how much output Takaya gives for the manga, does his pay as Mangaka enough to cover his daily expenses? Just playing around with the idea, but perhaps he has a day job now? 1 Quote

I'm not sure if everyone here is familiar with the typical process involved in creating manga, but creators usually don't get paid for their final inked pages until after the chapter is published. 99% of manga creators are paid on a commission basis by the publisher and receive an agreed upon fee per page of completed manga. I say this because it seems there may be some people out there hoping that he's busily drawing up the conclusion of the manga during this hiatus. I'm sorry to say this, but the chance of that being the case is miniscule at best. Kadokawa, like any publisher, are in business to make money, and they aren't gonna ask him to toil away and not publish what he's done - they'll publish a chapter the moment it's ready! Even if the royalties are good for Takaya, I highly doubt it's enough to live on. Whatever is going on with him though, I think it's pretty obvious that he's not inking anything at the moment. Is he working with his editor and planning out the story? Possibly. Is he working on some storyboards? Possibly. Is he and his editor happy enough to proceed with inking? Not right now. That's pretty much as far as we can speculate I reckon... Edited March 31, 2019 by TricoBren 2 Quote
