Hello, Whatever changes were made seemed to have negatively impacted the guyver boards as well as manga reader sections. -Guyver1

That is AWESOME!! So glad I have my 2 copies of his first appearance!

Good topic. I prefer the old one mainly due to size and it being a bit more sturdy. I am super glad that Figma put out this figure though. I need to buy another one so I can keep it on display in the box. I must say I like the price of the Figma figure... at least for right now -Guyver1

Awesome! Thanks as per usual Cannibal!

I came across the 1989 OVA series when I was about 15 or so in 1996. I was at Specs, a music and video store and came across the first VHS tape. I watched it... then watched it again... and again and so on. Totally fell for the overall design of the characters, especially Guyver 1. As time went on, I found the comics and graphic novels from Viz. Read them all. Back then, as others have stated, the interwebs weren't as accessable so I had to stop when Viz ended their run in English. I searched online sometime later for the mangas in Japanese just to see the art progress... I finally found his first appearance this year, some 18 years after my initial encounter and LOVE it more! The chapters of the manga get better and better and my 2 boys love the anime! It's kind of a pain to collect in some ways due to its lack of popularity in the US, but that makes it a bit cooler. Like being a part of something awesome most don't know of. I introduced my girlfriends brother to it last week (the newer anime) and made another fan. Word of mouth gets new peeps eyes on this, it's the least I can do to repay Takaya for his almost 30 years of herd work on, in my opinion, the best manga out there!

I am unsure what this is about. Since I have joined the forum, I have been greeted and welcomed and when I sent proof of my purchase of volume 31 to Yuki, I got my scanlations within a few days. I couldn't be happier and thank all who are a part of this for their continued efforts. Especially since no one is required to pay to be a part of this. Just my take on it. -Guyver1

They are indeed! Only thing is you have to purchase the actual printed Tankouban and send proof of purchase to Yuki to get the most up to date ones. Or you can pledge or buy directly from this site. -Guyver1

This is awesome!! Thanks!

What music have you currently been listening to?
Guyver1 replied to PrimalNemesis's topic in General 'whatever'.
Way late on this thread, but I like me some punk rock and ska. NOFX, Reel Big Fish, Streetlight Manifesto, Suicide Machines... that type of thing. I really enjoy music that on the surface sounds all happy with horns and a ska beat only to find the lyrics are SO messed up! LOL! -
I have only seen a handful of episodes and the first volume of the manga. Not really my thing. Now my brother on the other hand... he is a HUGE Naruto fan. I'll have to get his thoughts on the finale.

Hello all, I just wanted to introduce myself to all of the great Guyver fans (myself included) on this forum! I recently signed up but have followed the forums for a long time. It's good to be a part of a nerd community obsessed with Guyver and lots of other great subjects! I have been a huge fan not only of Guyver, but comics and gaming as well since my wee childhood. I am an independent comic book artist as well with a published title (I won't plug it here, only mentioning to show how true nerd I really am!) Thanks to Yuki and the staff for putting this all together and keeping the English translations going for us! I look forward to more awesome news, topics and ideas from all -Guyver1

I would rather see it at a slow pace than not at all. I'm super happy this manga has been going for almost 30 years. I don't ever want to see it end, but know that the end will be sweet when it comes.

Awesome! Thanks Cannibal!

Hello all, Just in case anyone is interested, the first appearance of Guyver is again on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/SHONEN-CAPTAIN-ANIME-MANGA-COMIC-BOOK-FEB-86-BIO-BOOSTER-GUYVER-FIRST-APPERANCE-/321559904146?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ade76bf92#ht_1483wt_947 -Guyver1

I think the quality of the work is more than worth the wait. I can't wait to get my copy!
-
Agreed. It cost a pretty penny to get my 2 copies of the first edition of thie Monthly manga, so I have not yet ordered the March or other issues. Although, it would be cool to get the March one for Guyver 2's first appearance and then whichever month for Guyver 3's... one day!!
-
Again I need to ask, does this means that this first issue of Shonen Captain was on sale not on 18th feb, but on18th jan? I just need to know an actual day when first Guyver was published Based on the advertisement Yuki translated, I would think that it would be fist out in January but dated February 18,1985.

Oh wow! Thanks so much Yuki! I appreciate you taking the time to do that. I am super excited to be apart of this forum and can't wait to get my nerd on with you all

I am interested in why it says 3D as well. Hopefully Yuki can translate when time permits. I can't wait for the Figma figure to be released. Should be pretty sweet! Thanks for checking out the Shonen Captain pics

Hello again, I will post more pics now. It looks like I will have to do this in a few posts, so please be patient I have attached a pic of the spine clearly showing the year of 1985, the front cover, some pics of the title page, the side of a page, and note where he is breaking Gregole's arms, in the original there is no blood spatter. It was added in the tankouban. Let me know if any other pics are needed. I hope to hear how they are translated. Thanks all!! - Guyver1

Thanks so much Aether! (I was SO happy I could get that name!) I can confirm this is the first appearance and the person did key in the wrong year. I will send pics of the side of the Shonen Captain Monthly as the spine does in fact state the year of 1985 on it later this evening for all to see. I have 2 copies of this manga now. The one on display is a decent copy, but I have a near mint one in my safe with all of my other expensive comics and nerd stuff Question to all, if I provide clear scans of the cover to this manga as well as the title page, can anyone translate it for me? I wish I could read Japanese, but alas I am not skilled in reading it. Thanks all!

Hello all! I just signed up. I have been foloowing this site for a long time but had nothing to add to all the great input. As I researched Shonen Captain Monthly from 1985 I came across the below in February of this year. Per the wikipedia on Yoshiki Takaya, his first work under his real name was Guyver from 02/18/1985. After researching Guyver's first appearance I reached out to a few people in Japan that were selleing older mangas on ebay and asked that they locate this manga for me. Both gentlemen in Japan were very gracious to my request and I have since purchased 2 copies of Shonen Captain Monthly from 02/18/1985 as it does in fact contain the first true appearance of Guyer. I have been a HUGE fan of this manga since I first saw the anime in 1995 and have been fixated since. Especially Guyver 1. The chronology makes sense if the first manga was serialized in Shonen Captain Monthly in 1985 that the first Tankouban would be released in 1986. I have attached a few pics below just to show some of the pictures from one of my copies of the original manga, as well as my Guyver shelf of awesome for anyone who is interested. Please feel free to ask me any questions as I have spent a LONG time researching this particular topic. Thanks!
