  1. So here I sit. I am so close to completing the newest issue of my comic, The Maniacal Smile. Issue 7 to be exact. My publisher has given me a hard deadline for completion of the art on this issue. The book is 22 pages per issue. I handle all of the pencils and inks. I am on page 19 inks now with the rest of the book already penciled. For the first time, I have a colorist to aid in the effort to complete this. I usually did all of the art from pencils, inks and colors on the book. With 03/15 rapidly approaching I am stressed, excited and exhausted with all of the work. Not only will this be a new issue of Smiley, but it will complete our 2nd trade paperback of the series. It is a total labor of love and very gratifying to see your own creation continue to baby step towards greatness. We have a very loyal fanbase that allows us to keep this going. Anyone else here do their own book or project?
  2. I got it from a very talented painter on ebay. He was in Hong Kong. Got a sweet deal on it and the eyes light up on it as well. Really ties the collection together.
  3. Hello all, Here's an update to my collection. I just got Guyvers 2-3 and the first 2 laserdiscs!
  4. Here is the cover for the newest issue. #7 will be out in April. Smiley goes to jail and it's called "Yellow is the new Blue". Enjoy!
  5. What an amazing collection!! I am super jealous. ... but more happy to see such a great sight! LOL
  6. Thanks so much!!
  7. Hello all, I just thought I would shamelessly plug the comic I created and draw. It's called The Maniacal Smile. Kind of like South Park meets The Tick. If you have the chance, check it out @ www.fiercecomics.com. If you think monkeys, tapeworms or a hero fighting his way out of a dolphin orgy are funny, you'd love the book! Some pics below. Thanks for checking it out. -Guyver 1
  8. LOL! Thanks!! My girlfriend was not too happy at first... but she digs Guyver so I was spared her wrath. ... for now.
  9. Hello all, I just thought I would share a pic of a portion of my Guyver collection. Please enjoy! Thanks! -Guyver1
  10. Hello, Whatever changes were made seemed to have negatively impacted the guyver boards as well as manga reader sections. -Guyver1
  11. That is AWESOME!! So glad I have my 2 copies of his first appearance!
  12. Good topic. I prefer the old one mainly due to size and it being a bit more sturdy. I am super glad that Figma put out this figure though. I need to buy another one so I can keep it on display in the box. I must say I like the price of the Figma figure... at least for right now -Guyver1
  13. Awesome! Thanks as per usual Cannibal!
  14. I came across the 1989 OVA series when I was about 15 or so in 1996. I was at Specs, a music and video store and came across the first VHS tape. I watched it... then watched it again... and again and so on. Totally fell for the overall design of the characters, especially Guyver 1. As time went on, I found the comics and graphic novels from Viz. Read them all. Back then, as others have stated, the interwebs weren't as accessable so I had to stop when Viz ended their run in English. I searched online sometime later for the mangas in Japanese just to see the art progress... I finally found his first appearance this year, some 18 years after my initial encounter and LOVE it more! The chapters of the manga get better and better and my 2 boys love the anime! It's kind of a pain to collect in some ways due to its lack of popularity in the US, but that makes it a bit cooler. Like being a part of something awesome most don't know of. I introduced my girlfriends brother to it last week (the newer anime) and made another fan. Word of mouth gets new peeps eyes on this, it's the least I can do to repay Takaya for his almost 30 years of herd work on, in my opinion, the best manga out there!
  15. I am unsure what this is about. Since I have joined the forum, I have been greeted and welcomed and when I sent proof of my purchase of volume 31 to Yuki, I got my scanlations within a few days. I couldn't be happier and thank all who are a part of this for their continued efforts. Especially since no one is required to pay to be a part of this. Just my take on it. -Guyver1
  16. They are indeed! Only thing is you have to purchase the actual printed Tankouban and send proof of purchase to Yuki to get the most up to date ones. Or you can pledge or buy directly from this site. -Guyver1
  17. This is awesome!! Thanks!
  18. Way late on this thread, but I like me some punk rock and ska. NOFX, Reel Big Fish, Streetlight Manifesto, Suicide Machines... that type of thing. I really enjoy music that on the surface sounds all happy with horns and a ska beat only to find the lyrics are SO messed up! LOL!
  19. I have only seen a handful of episodes and the first volume of the manga. Not really my thing. Now my brother on the other hand... he is a HUGE Naruto fan. I'll have to get his thoughts on the finale.
  20. Guyver1 posted a topic in Introduction
Hello all, I just wanted to introduce myself to all of the great Guyver fans (myself included) on this forum! I recently signed up but have followed the forums for a long time. It's good to be a part of a nerd community obsessed with Guyver and lots of other great subjects! I have been a huge fan not only of Guyver, but comics and gaming as well since my wee childhood. I am an independent comic book artist as well with a published title (I won't plug it here, only mentioning to show how true nerd I really am!) Thanks to Yuki and the staff for putting this all together and keeping the English translations going for us! I look forward to more awesome news, topics and ideas from all -Guyver1
  21. I would rather see it at a slow pace than not at all. I'm super happy this manga has been going for almost 30 years. I don't ever want to see it end, but know that the end will be sweet when it comes.
  22. Awesome! Thanks Cannibal!
  23. Hello all, Just in case anyone is interested, the first appearance of Guyver is again on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/SHONEN-CAPTAIN-ANIME-MANGA-COMIC-BOOK-FEB-86-BIO-BOOSTER-GUYVER-FIRST-APPERANCE-/321559904146?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ade76bf92#ht_1483wt_947 -Guyver1
  24. I think the quality of the work is more than worth the wait. I can't wait to get my copy!
  25. Agreed. It cost a pretty penny to get my 2 copies of the first edition of thie Monthly manga, so I have not yet ordered the March or other issues. Although, it would be cool to get the March one for Guyver 2's first appearance and then whichever month for Guyver 3's... one day!!
