actually, I thought that is quite good. when i saw that happen on that OP, I thought it was very cool. if that was not true, i would see that vending machine as a very odd and pointless addition.

I think many people look for very different things in their godzilla movies. I really enjoyed what i saw of final wars. although I am not a huge godzilla fan. perhaps you guys can talk about what you liked about your favourite movies? just stating that x movie was the best and x movie was the worst is not very constructive.

oh damn it durendal. I had gotton over that personal issue... now you brought up all the pain again!! THAT DAMN OPERA HOUSE!!! COPYING FROM AN ORANGE!!! MAKES ME SO ANGRY!!! no, I think you can have inspired by, copy of, and rip-off. i guess you could also have :- inspired by, heavily inspired by, kinda a copy of, a blatant copy of, bit of a rip off, total rip. anyway, I think i've seen all of dragonball that has been heavily inspired to naruto... i got to the underwater cave. the big submarine was also there and so that's the episode i watched last night. actually, I wouldn't be at all surprised if more stuff happens that makes me think "ah so this is where naruto got that from". so ok, continuing about things that are like naruto, my friend gave me an anime the other day. it's called Seirei no Moribito. I've never heard of it but the animation etc looks very nice. he also said something about.. i think it was rurouni kenshi?

Kamen Rider W (Double) Series discussion
Jess♥ replied to Toku Warrior's topic in Japanese Entertainment
spoilers. i have to say that is one of the most rewarding series end that i have seen. even though I always think that ryuki is the most powerful end, it was not generally that rewarding. but W was brilliant. the whole series was quite weak most of the way through but it really picked up. I think character revivals is always a pretty controversial thing to do but this was handled really well. I was truly upset when philippe disappeared. i really felt for shoutarou in this moment and the way he asked if he could close it himself was ever so more potent. and i really did not expect the final episode to work so well. I thought it might make a nice reprisal, the kamen rider joker, and the showing that he was continuing on. but when he came back, i was so happy. that was amazing. -
very nice! you did a really good job very rich colour too.

wow, that was pretty cool, I really enjoyed that op. and the clips they showed... I actually really really like what i see. even though i thought the suit looked cheap at first, i think the style of the show may be very much to my liking. I guess i'll find out soon.

good job spreading the word kenji I think i found the forum you were talking about. it seems they didn't notice that we have the full volumes as well.

yeah, you are right. but eether don't get me wrong. I'm not pointing my finger in an aggressive fashion at kishimoto. as i said , I love naruto and i will still love it no matter how much he blatantly copies from other manga/anime. and come on... comparing superman to dragonball is nothing like comparing dragonball to naruto.. this is all i'm really objecting to here because you seem to be brushing my thoughts under the rug as though it's some kind of conspiracy. dragonball is to superman as aeroplane is to car. a car goes fast and gets you from a to b. an aeroplane is a different animal but has the same basis, travel. naruto is to dragonball as f1 car is to street car. it does it better but it is essentially the same thing. I'm not trying to say it's a complete and total rip-off and doesn't have its own original elements, I'm just saying it copies so much, it's kinda funny. shall we have a sliding scale? inspired by [---¦-------------------------] blatant rip-off dragonball and superman. [-¦---------------------------] naruto and dragonball [--------------¦--------------] nick simmons [---------------------------¦-] you might disagree with my exact placing but i don't think you can disagree with the general idea.

it's not really an archetype though is it? it's more like what a person may do when they want to avoid plagiarism charges. old 'wise' man is an archetype, sure. but old, incredibly tough martial artist, who summons an animal that spends part of it's time in the water and part of its time out of water, is named as a sage of that animal, is considered a pervert, and teaches the protagonist in order for him to take part in the tournament etc. and uses an incredibly powerful energy move and teaches it to the protagonist. that's not an archetype.

no, this is a bit too much to not be considered copying. the formula of the story is the same. another example, the character ero-sennin is almost a carbon copy of kame-sennin. I'm not saying i'm angry or anything, because i do really love naruto. I just find it odd, even funny how the author has the balls to be so blatant about it. so in response to v-guyver, well I have never seen dragonball before. I have always made a concerted effort to completely avoid these type of anime. this is why it's all such a big deal to me now. oh and about the thing that.. all anime or manga is mostly a copy? what about guyver? mostly influenced by early henshin heroes, right? it's not so much a copy of earlier manga or anime, more influenced by other stuff though.

to be completely honest, I modelled this head 4 years ago so I cannot remember time scale. it must have been 2 or 3 days though.. and when i say that, i am unsure how many hours were spent each day, could have bee n2 or 3 hours or i might have become engrossed and spent 5 or 6 hours. but anyway, a lot of time would have been spent on those specific seams you can see. the seams follow existing seams on the human face, such as edges of fat deposits etc. the bits in between those parts can just be smoothed automatically and it doesn't matter so much. I added the file to this post in a zip folder. I noticed I don't have max installed so you got the max file. i am sure maya ought to be able to import it. if not, your tutor may be able to convert it for you. or you might find a converter online. if you give me some of your models, I might be tempted to install max on my new pc. so if that happens, I might convert it myself. headbase.zip

skeleton looks good and you got IK chains on there so good stuff. also, I think your chest and shoulders are done well. my major thoughts is that you're using too much detail for your initial modelling. I would think that it is going to cause a lot of problems manipulating at this level without first getting your basic shapes down. I think that the best demonstration of effective modelling techniques is with simple models. I'll given an example. start basic and then subdivide down. if you look at the low detail levels on the head, then you'll see i subdivide around the mouth and eyes. if you practice with your polygons making efficient contours, your modelling will improve greatly. p.s. if you want to study this model, I can provide it in a maya compatible format.

no, I don't use maya, but they are only tools, the techniques are gonna be the same. I'll look now.

yes, dragonball is getting much better. I just finished watching the muscle tower story. I really like ha-chan. he is so cool. and wow... I'm seeing so much of what is probably the major influence of naruto . that guy in the tower was just like a hentai of naruto. it was like... kinda like konohamaru. but,, i have seen shinobi in many places, many different anime, yet this is so blatantly like what we now see in naruto. it's too much to be a coincidence especially considering the other elements that have been lifted. it's a bit annoying though.. because at this point, my download has slowed to a crawl. and I am catching up to the episodes that i have got completed.

you've made a very good start I like your sense of adventure, I look forward to seeing how you improve and your adventurous choice of colours.

so well made. beautiful animation, wonderful music, good hidden areas, lots of secrets, nice fluid gameplay and continuous challenge. they cannot match this game unless they made a new 2d progression based action exploration game on a powerful console instead of a small screened low power handheld. some the GBA ones were quite good but because they were on a handheld, the budget was lower and they did not take them seriously enough to include this level of depth.

that sounds like so many of the thoughts i have had while playing world of warcraft. it is very intelligent. yes things should happen in the world. I wonder if there is any problems getting it to work. I am sure it takes a lot to balance it, but it sounds so exciting. it is interesting because WoW was rooted in RTS genre and then expanded from that... on the other hand, GW seems to be rooted in the rpg/action-adventure genre and expanding from there. this would certainly be more suitable for me since i do not play RTS games and i love action-adventure games. it is interesting that it is durendal and zonefighter talking about this. two people i consider to be quite sophisticated. it makes guild wars seem like a game that is sophisticated. a game that i could truly be very interested in.

the visuals are beautiful. if it is a mmorpg with a fully explorable persistent world, then i would like to take a look at it. so when it look like a release, I will look for a beta or something, a trial or some way to experience it. world of warcraft is a real pain in the ass in so many ways so I think guild wars would be interesting.

you got it! hmm, I remember being able to save the progress internally. the machine has internal memory. i'm pretty certain of that.

well the thing about a concept design is that it shows the concept not art skill. so I'm really not expecting it to be a presentation piece. but it is your choice at the end of the day. yeah i know all about the woes of vertex weighting. when i rigged my magpie, it was really tough to isolate his wings from his chest. i didn't manage to isolate them completely in the end but i got a workable result.
-
if you want feedback on the character design, you need to provide the original sketches. if you want feedback on the actual model itself, you need to show a mesh or the spline. well either that or a low poly version. the model you have shown is too smoothed for me to really be able to comment accurately. well his 'dyper' looks odd. I think the vertex weighting on your skeleton is probably in need of a lot of work there. judging from what i can see, he seems pretty standard fare for a generic thug. this feedback really isn't very fair though. I'd like to see more of teh bare bones of him before i give good critique.

i think american stores are scary places.
