wow, I had forgotten about this.

I'm glad you're back on it durendal.

I wonder, might it be good to convert the VDF into a pdf?

it would aid reading and it would reduce the size of the files.

Posted

Hmm.... I would guess once the conversion is complete, it would be much more efficient to have them all bundled into one single file.

Anyways, you really got to hand it to Super Existence. He's the one who keeps reminding me about this.

Read, comprehend and interpret.

Am I done now?

Appearing in the original anime

-From here on, we would like to ask regarding various media that has been developed for [Guyver]. Firstly, we would like to hear Mr. Takaya's thoughts on the produced theatrical work animation.

Yes, the first production was created with Studio Live. This talks about the story that happens in volume 1 of the tankoubon, and after the completion of the second volume.

With regards to the subject it was an original from Live. My participation was with the design of the female version of Guyver II, until the established drawing of the Megasmasher. That establishment, has not yet appeared in the second volume. For me, when I was still a child I have this strong admiration for movies, I was very happy to see my own work made into film. Later, the singer Inoue Azumi who sang the main theme, such a beautiful person made such an impression. Additionally, the special modeling costume that Mr. Shinada Fuyuki sculpted of Guyver I is something profound.

red text: Hollywood realization movie American version [GUYVER]

-Speaking of costume, guyver was made into a live movie right.

Yes. It was made twice. (Currently, Video and LD are out of print) To start, concerning the first [GUYVER THE MOVIE], I had direct contact with the director Mr. Screaming Mad George. I had hoped that Mr. George would create the complete story and appearing characters for America. Cutting off the Japanese origin and I was looking forward as to how popular it would be overseas, and I entrusted everything. A must see scene is definitely the bioboosting scene. From calling out the camera suddenly changes to the scene of the bioboost armor. That much is a One Cut, where a puppet is immediate substituted. It was amazing.

Additionally on the second one [Dark Hero], the director modeled it on the first film and headed by collaborative director Mr. Steve Wang. It was an American version original story where he searches for his own roots. It's just that, a portion of the mind has a feel that it sticks closely to the original material. Later, there was a scene where he bioboosted diving from a cliff, that was so cool. That was the hero image of Steve Wang. It is because he is someone who has deep understanding of a Japanese Hero.

image with yellow circle: A Guyver head in the hands of Mr. Takaya. This, was a garage kit sculpted by Mr. Oosako Junichi. Right now looking at it is only astonishing.

Red text: A film version of a yearning director!

Mr. Takaya also participated in the entire supervision!!

-Next, let us hear about the 1998 version of the OVA. Please tell us about your deep connection in the first series.

This time, the story will start from the beginning sticking closely to the original material. I was the chief director and in charge of the chief designs, additionally I was in charge of approving the script to the elaborate checks on the continuity. Even for Guyver II a new design was made for this OVA. The script, being the manga author the famous Sanjou Riku was put in charge. During his negotiations, Mr. MAX Watanabe was introduced. He had read all of the guyver, in one day have read all of the volumes, and then immediately created the entire plot. What Mr. Sanjou was thinking, was unusually unconventional and unique. The last that he thought of first, was the combination of the team 5. (laugh) and then, the great battle to control Japan! Thinking [Won't this be interesting (joking)], but the world perspective was different so we stopped. However, the idea of the appearance of the team 5 lived on, and I thought that it had developed a nice tempo.

In the end it was the director, Mr. Ishiguro Kouichi, the main director of [Furai Lion Maru] which I liked when I was a kid did it. Coincidentally Mr. Ishiguro was the chairman of the production committee that was in charge of the anime. It was an incredible chance meeting, I was so surprised.

After the meeting, director Ishigura suddenly said saying it first hand. At first I was surprised, since I drew this manga receiving the influence from the works of Ishiguro, it was obvious (laugh). Additionally the director said that [shou should be thought as a son]. The director perceived Shou with a perspective of a father, and I think that this series suceeded. Working with this for one year was really enjoyable.

blue text: OVA ('89)

Video and LD are sold for 4,500 yen (the picture is the last of 6 chapter of the first series) currently, the first series volumes 1 ~ 6 are being sold by Bandai Visual (the second is out of print)

Red text: An Image Album that magnificently grasped the atmosphere of the original work

-next, can you tell us about the image album that was released in 1991.

This was an image album based on original work. collecting the vocals and instrumentals, all of it was composed for this CD. In this CD, Inoue Azumi who was in the '86 version anime also participated. She sang the theme of Mizuki [small prayer].

In the song making, it was made to understand the world perspective of the [bioboost armor]. With that, it was asked from Hayami Kouji who wrote the Guyver Gaiden short novels.

Again in the composition, the fusion of a tokusatsu hero, animation, drama, historical play, and also movie sound track was done by Mr. Tamura Eiji. The multiple overflowing city sense of Mr. Tamura, is really wonderful. Actually, I was already a fan of Mr. Tamura, I was secretly wishing for Mr. Tamura to make this image album. I think the contents was realy wonderful, when asked, was frightenend with [i'm really bad at song making, will it really be alright for me to do it], whether its right or wrong to ask.... no, it's all lies (laugh), in any case, I think that this composition was really wonderful. Again, Mr. Tamura showed his coolness.

In the composition, aside from the aforementioned [small prayer], there was the [Theme of Cronos] which was the idea of Mr. Tamura. Its an interesting song where the last part of the song has a spell with the name of the zoanoids. This theme was sung by a collection of many people. By the way, I was busy with work and was not able to participate. Thinking of it now it was rather unfortunate. Later, the longness of the composition requires the name of a zoanoid, a zoanoid called [giles] which appeared in the monitor of the cronos base in the original work made an appearance. until here, there was no accurate design, this time it was drawn in this mook to be shown to everyone.

Take note of the detailed mentality!

pictured at right: -Novels

The picture, volume 1, [Lisker's Challenge], volume 2, [the third shadow] are also sold by Tokukan AM retailing at 480 yen. Furthermore, the Gaiden that appears in the interview [Memory of Demon shadow] is currently being sold.

red text: Expression of the Standard bearer's world of the Short Novel Guyver

-Well then, please let us hear about the writting of Mr. Hayami Kouji who made the songs.

Concerning the first gaiden, it tells the story like the first series of the OVA. A ratio and lyrical, whichever is written in the short novel that is expressed was introduced by Mr. Hayami.

With that, it became like [it was because it was difficult to convert the Manga to short novel like that so lets add an extra], and that's how the [memory of the demon shadow] was written. For those who have not read it, it was rather interesting development so please read it like [The brother who was working away in Tokyo did not return. That sister was searching for Shinsou so she transfered into the school of Shou. Her brother was actually....].

And then, recently there are new series started. This puts the current Heisei world into the stage, the flow of the original story runs along and develops. In the mean time, volume 2 it reaches the story of the destruction of Japan Branch. There are zoanoids that appear in the novel version that does not appear in the original. Later, it went into dwelling of a character that did not appear in the original. For example, there is another side of Natsuki that can be read in the novel. I think that it was enjoyable for a teacher who prides himself in expressing the detailed mentality.

Red text: 12 holy commanders vs guyver!

Take attention to the current developments!!

-Then, can you please let us hear about the current developments.

It would be mainly a confrontation of the 12 holy commanders. The giant shadow appearing that overwhelmed the american base will also have it's true form revealed here, different devices were also prepared for this. Additionally, the entanglement between the Gigantic battle between Shou and Makishima, and the great change in the upper body of Aptom.

At any events, confrontation between the Guyver camp and the 12 holy commanders are being composed. In the shadows the true identity of a mysterious man who makes secret manuevers, or when Murakami will be revived, or what the true intentions of Alchanfel, all the mysteries will be made clear one after the other.

-You won't be leaving this in a new development right. Then, lastly is there any last words you wish to give to the readers who have given you support.

From here please have my regards on the [bioboost Armor Guyver] which is heading into its climax.

Pic of Takaya: From here on Mr. Takaya promises to write with a hot passion. Please expect it!

Thanks so much Durendal...I know you probably don't want to do the Max factory kits page so don't worry about that. Any chance you could do the japanese bits under the last pages of illustrations. It's only a few lines.

Thanks for all the hard work. It's the end of an era!

omg....

I just checked back on here and I am shocked that this is not finished!

I was certain we had finished this project.

I was shocked to look at the gallery of the VDF and see that there is a final page of the takaya sensei interview that is not scanlated and there is the model kit pages that are not translated. although those are not that important, there is the images that super existence specifically requested.

I am shocked that i had gone all this time thinking that this project was completed!

damn my confused brain!

since the last page of takaya-sensei interview is not scanlated... perhaps it is necessary for me to pick this up, as I believe it was lost unit who did most of this amazing work... and since he has been absent for a long time, I think he will not be available to do it.

Posted

hey guys, I typesetted the final page of the interview.

remember that if you have viewed the japanese version of that page, you need to force refresh your browser so that it gets rid of the cached image.

the text under the images a few pages later doesn't hold that much valuable information, it's just saying where the image initially appeared. for example, on box art for one of the garage kits.

what is your opinion guys? do we need to get these final pages translated or shall I compile this volume into a zip file as is, with the interview being the last thing in the book translated into english?

I guess the most significant opinion is the opinion of the person who we would be asking to translate it .. ^^;

yo durendal.. you there? what say you?

Posted

Well, I would like to see all of it translated, since leaving those last pages with images untranslated make it look like a work still in progress.

I really would like to know the publisher and author of the VDF since I want to use this as a source in a paper I'm writing for comp class.

Posted

*sigh* And here I thought I'm done with this. I don't usually do things half-assed, but I guess that's what happens when I do things half-assed. Well, since the interview was the priority then and nobody seemed to care much for the pages after, I thought of leaving it as is. If there is a request, then I am obliged to finish it. Just give me some room to restart the momentum.

Posted

ok thanks durendal. I think it would be nice to finish it properly and then it is 'out of the way'.

well I have to typeset it too. i guess it's not too tough a job.

btw, on the garage kits, i think a more literal translation would be fine for those. no need to worry about rephrasing to sound cool or anything.

good comment, 'half assed', I  at that. nice one. :)

River, I think I remember the publisher, I think it was daran.

I'll just check it now.... nope, can't read the publishing info.

we'll have to wait for our expert :)

Posted

I'll jump ahead to the publisher's information since it's needed.

The text is a little blurred, but I can still make out a few characters.

This is from Shonen Captain, and the publisher is Matsuen Mitsuo. It is copyrighted by something-something (sorry, the image is illegible) Productions and Tokuma Shoten. Interesting to note that this book is also called Roman Album.

Posted

OMG! taking a peek at the Bio-fighter collection, those text under the image of each figures are not general information, but comments from Mr. Takaya himself. In light of the new information, it is now a necessity to translate those as well.

Posted

really? oh wow!

that will be very interesting then :)

It's a shame about the text quality of that publishers information.

perhaps if we look up the name of a publisher named Matsuen Mitsuo, we can discover what company he is affiliated with?

Restarting the translation for the VDF. Here are the comments of Mr. Takaya about the BFC.

MAX FACTORY GARAGE KITS ALL CATALOG

The first Guyver and Zoanoid creatures that was created by Takaya Yoshiki...

Those heroes whose designs which attracted many fans

Those creatures which were completely surpervised under Mr. Takaya, assembled in 3D model!!

Hoping to recieve the "prejudiced" comment of Mr. Takaya in his solid merchandise

1/12 Guyver Biofighter Collection Series

The Biofighter Collection is the core of the [bioboost Armor Guyver] garage kit series (Known as B.F.C.). Coating all of the parts has all sorts of topic gathered. These perfected proportion were directly supervised by Mr. Takaya. Again, movable gimmick and detacheable parts were the ideal new experiments.

No. 1 Bioboost Armor Guyver I

Price inlcuding tax 2,060 Yen (List Price 2,000 Yen)

Commemorating the the First Kit of the BFC. Item used as the basis for the series, the only one that was developed for more than six months. As a compromise it is a strong figure and I have no complaints about the kit.

No. 2 Zoanoid Gregol

Price including tax 1,648 Yen (List price 1,600 Yen)

It was difficult to mold the shoulder joint. Not only for this Gregol, but the reproduced details of this BFC series is one of the selling points.

No. 3 Zoanoid Vamore

This is a kit where you can play with the opening function of the beam cannon in the shoulders. My assistant, keeps on opening the pinvise, and can be illuminated with just a simple light bulb.

No. 4 Zoanoid Ramotith

Price including tax 1,648 yen (list price 1,600 yen)

The first small fry Character No. 1. One of my favorites. The face is good, proportion and fur detail is superb. Being a regular character, it would be good to have a lot of color variation. This is a white guy.

No. 5 Bioboost Armor Guyver II

Price including tax 2,060 yen (list price 2,000 yen)

This is the biggest among the three guyvers. It's because his body is that of a foreigner. The original video anime version has Guyver II having a macho charm, this is a good kit even without that. The parts are similar to that of Guyver I.

No. 6 Zoanoid Zerberbuth

price including tax 2,226 yen (list price 2,200 yen)

Not only does the shoulder have a joint, the upper arm can only be articulated independently, to be played differently. The shoulder armor springs alive like an crusty insect which is good. What is regretful is the small size.

No. 7 Hyper Zoanoid Zx-tole

price including tax 2,472 yen (list price 2,400 yen)

A ZX-tole kit version that is even popular with the author. Just look at the greatness of the proportion! In addition to the mobility of the Zerberbuth it can also achieve different pose. If only the beam cannon can open and close it would be perfect.... perhaps it's impossible

Page 145

No. 8 Hyper Zoanoid Dazerb

price including tax 2,369 yen (list price 2,300 yen)

The proportion is perfect. The problem is how you make it stand. You have to put something heavy on the feet. The eye coating has a sensation of being a small resin, covering it up would make it more handsome.

No. 9 Hyper Zoanoid Gaster

price including tax 2,472 yen (list price 2,400 yen)

There is illuminous material in the living missle on the nozzle of the shoulder. Since it lights you can leave it in the dark and it lights up. The crest of the missle and head part are made plastic in parts with splendid difficult.

No. 10 Hyper Zoanoid Thancrus

price including tax 2,369 yen (list price 2,300 yen)

Continuing on the missle of Gaster, both hands of this guy is luminous. Namely the high frequency blade luights up. Additionally, if you use the unecessary portion of the luminous parts, you can make the high frequency sword of the Guyver light up...somehow

No. 11 Hyper Zoanoid Elegen

price including tax 2,678 yen (list price 2,600 yen)

Somehow only the head is the moveable part, the unique half fixed kit in the series. Comparing to the ZX-tole this is quite lonely, and even though you can't pose it the body line has a good feeling of detail.

No. 12 Zoanoid Enzyme

price including tax 2,884 yen (list price 2,800 yen)

The design concept of a zoanoid is basically not a "Creature" or a "freak". However, this guy is different. This is a kit that greatly freakishness of Enzyme. The representation of the fur is cool.

No. 13 Battle Member WITH Segawa Mizuki

price including tax 2,884 yen (list price 2,800 yen)

This is a nice battle member. I'd like at least 10 of these. However, I'd have to get a lot of these. Although there is not much on Mizuki, there are color coding on the parts, as an extra there are eye decals. Of course I was the one who drew it.

No. 14 Bioboost Armor Guyver III

price including tax 2,472 yen (list price 2,400 yen)

The black guy who sold pretty well. As expected of the 3rd guyvers, the parts have a feel of sharpness, and it is splendid. A soft vinyl, the texture is quite regretful.

No. 15 Hyper Zoanoid Enzyme II

price including tax 3,296 yen (list price 3,200 yen)

The dreadful volume put together! The body comprises 4 extended arms on the back... These multiple extended arm parts are troublesome. Since 1 arm has 9 parts. But I am completely satisfied when it was finished. Also, it is articulated.

No. 16 Aptom 2 (Fusion version)

price including tax 3,708 yen (list price 3,600 yen)

Even though there is no aptom 1 (fake Guyver) made how could this be!? The beam cannon opening is similar to that of Vamore. The chest part is similar to Enzyme II, with this recieving those arms how much poseability will this have...?

No. 17 ZX-tole (Fully open mode)

price including tax 4,326 yen (list price 4,200 yen)

A special kit that has the special beam cannon set of Zx-tle the Final, a limited edition version. If you collect this with the normal Zx-tole, you will have all the variation from the movie.

No. 18 Protozoalord [Murakami]

price including tax 2.884 yen (list price 2,800 yen)

Among the series, the most handsome creature, the appearance of Murakami. There is nothing more I can say to this. Aside from the standard right hand, it also has the "cutting wave hand blade (both hands). It's very cool.

No. 19 Aptom 4 (Dazerb absorbed ver)

price including tax 3,708 yen (list price 3,600 yen)

A giant kit that combines Gaster, Dazerb and Elegen/ Is there any other merchandise that is as mid form as this!? Perhaps the lost Number Panadyme and Onuma's grandfather.... but, this is good.

Thanks man! Just needed the publisher company and author to properly cite this book. I have the VDF and hence why I'm using it in comp class.

if you have it, can you get us a better image of the publisher info? it's on the second to last page. you'll know it because it has 'staff' in english and it has a little copyright symbol in there.

Yeah...I don't think my scanner quality is any better than what you guys have....

post-1770-0-86945400-1329861575_thumb.jp

I tried to get it all, even with a camera, but it's not wanting to stay clear.

If you want, I can type up the words in order from top to bottom. It won't be in Japanese since my computer doesn't have that kind of software, it'll appear as one long word for each line.
