Bobby Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 That's a possibility. And it's also composed of Adamantium. The very metal that's on Wolverine's bones. Quote
Salkafar Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Hugo Weaving is playing that head vampire in "Underworld" Nay, nay, and once again I say nay. That was Bill Nighy. From 'Love, Actually' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest'. But he did play Elrond the Half-Elf who is older (as a character) than my mother. Quote
Salkafar Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 That's a possibility. And it's also composed of Adamantium. The very metal that's on Wolverine's bones. This again! No, there is no adamantium in Captain America's shield. There is iron, and Wakandan vibranium, and some other rare earth metals, and an X factor which cannot be determined. When dr. Myron McLain was experimenting with vibranium in order to create a stable alloy with the element, he did so many tests that at one point, he fell asleep from exhaustion. When he woke up, one of his experiments had been successful. He poured the mixture into the mold for a tank turret cover and that is why it is shaped like that. The shield turned out to be indestructible (for all intents and purposes) but dr.McLain never figured out how the process worked. His tireless searching for the solution did lead him to the discovery (more than twenty years later) of the super-alloy Adamantium, which is almost, but not quite, as strong as Captain America's shield. Captain America did in fact wield a solid Adamantium shield for a while when he had lost his original round shield. The Ultimate version was also issued an Adamantium shield. Quote
*Steel Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Yeah there was alot of confusion over the whole Vibranium-Adamantium alloy thing. Amazing the confusion a few printed errors can make. Did he weald the Adamantium one when the original was lost at the bottom of the sea, or infected by some sort of substance that weakened its composition. I can never remember. I think it was wished back by Thor or something wacky like that. Anyway I wonder if they will explain what the Sheild seen in Ironman 1 and 2 is. A replica? a prototype? It cant be the original as its in bits. Quote
ErutanXiku Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 (edited) I'll watch it because I love my Captain America...perhaps I'll be wrong about not feeling right about Chris Evans being given the part - I felt the same way when I heard that Robert Downey Jr was Tony Stark...until I saw a promo pic of him creating V1 of his pacemaker (sorry, the name escapes me right now). Though having watched the trailer, it does look good, but I'm still unsure about Chris Evans - not saying the man doesn't have talent...just his look :/ I feel similar to Ryan Reynolds playing the Green Lantern, but that's a whole other issue...again it's not about his talent. I'm so used to Cap being blond and blue-eyed, it's like a slap to Hitler's Aryan Race thing. Also, I too always thought he was a more skinnier version of himself pre-serum (same height, but no muscle or fitness)...they had to go Benjamin Button on him :/ As for Hugo Weaving, he wasn't even in Underworld was he? And Cap's shield in Iron Man 2 (was it really in 1?) could have just been an Easter Egg with no back story. I can't really imagine Cap waking up in the present day, going where's my shield and Tony going I just had take it apart and see how it works, but I forgot about it and lost interest because it refused to yield its secrets... durendal Posted March 25, 2011 Author Posted March 25, 2011 Many people does seem to have this confusion about Cap's shield being Adamantium. I was also one of the people who initially believed it was adamantium, until Marvel retconned this. Seems like Adamantium doesn't have the absorbtion abilities that Cap's shield has. But I think Cap's shield was broken a few times. One I could distinctly remember is when he was standing face to face with Thanos in Infinity Gems. You can just feel the awe as Cap was the only hero standing facing thanos. Too bad Thanos shattered his shield with just one blow. But still, them face to face was epic. I believe that Howard Stark would play a pivotal role in the creation of the Shield, and the ones in Tony's possession was more or less a prototype of the final product. Heck, it was even made to believe that when Stark was creating Vibranium (in Iron Man 2), the shield was a vital part of the process, only then to be used as a simple leveling tool. In fact, wasn't Howard Stark one of the founders of Shield? We are speaking of the Marvel Cinematic universe here of course. Quote
Bobby Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Thanos is the Marvel equivalent of Darkseid. He has immense strength. So Adamantium could could be damaged. Quote
durendal Posted March 25, 2011 Author Posted March 25, 2011 Thanos is the Marvel equivalent of Darkseid. He has immense strength. So Adamantium could could be damaged. For the record, Thanos managed to break the shield because he was weilding the infinity gauntlet, not because he is immensely strong. Please stop posting unfounded data as it is really misleading. That was the very scene that made me a Cap fan for life. Its made even more dramatic by the fact that Thanos had just killed or incapacitated everyone else (save for Surfer and Warlock waiting in the wings). One man standing up to a god, knowing he stood no chance but also knowing that the stand had to be made. Quote
ErutanXiku Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 I should read that! What comic is it in and I'll hunt it down in a heartbeat...! What made me a Captain America fan was the 90's Spider-Man; his leadership and charisma was amazing, coupled with his sacrifice at the end. I was talking to my brother about the trailer last night, and something he said added a piece to the puzzle of why I'm still a bit iffy on it...it feels like an Underdog Movie. I'm not sure if that was really his origin, since the one I'm familiar with is from the Spider-Man series I have been meaning to pick up some reading material on him, but I don't know where to start on a "Recommended Reading List"...*hides in shame* Quote
*Steel Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Infinity Gauntlet. Its a classic and one of the better crossovers. Quote
durendal Posted May 6, 2011 Author Posted May 6, 2011 It's a little difficult to get the origin comic of Captain America, but there are a lot of Captain America comics that would eat up your time. If you want to find out about his origin, wikipedia seems to be the quickest way. But there are recommended reads. The Captain America comic itself is already in issue 617. It's very difficult to acquire all of them, but you can easily get them through back channels. Quote
Bobby Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 And there've been variations as to how Steve Rogers became Captain America. Some involve a serum that he drank. Others include him being strapped into a machine that gave him his abilities. Quote
odin Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 mmm, I'm definitely going to watch this movies, it goes 2 days before my birthday (we get it early) so i hope this will be good, I am going to give Evans the benefit of the doubt on the role of Cap since he can make a few mistakes being caps origin he can act rash and maybe cocky but with his heart in the right place as he should be, but i hope if he does well he better step up his game to play a wiser Cap once they start the whole Avengers thing. Quote
durendal Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 Well, I'm hoping that this movie will erase the burned image of Evans as the humans torch. The trailer helped me a bit as the scrawny Evans looks the part. He does look different if he's serious. I guess it was difficult to take him seriously in FF because of his wise cracking face. Quote
Bobby Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Here are some other enemies of Captain America some of you don't know. Baron Zemo Crossbones The Slug...He's Level 6 of the Six Levels Of Fatness More as I remember them. Quote
durendal Posted June 21, 2011 Author Posted June 21, 2011 You guys all know I purchased a Captain America Shield, and I was a bit disappointed with it because it was really flimsy. But when I saw a new life size Captain America Shield that is made of metal, my eyes widened and I've decided to get it. You see, I was supposed to buy this today: But I lost interest in it when I saw THIS: Actually replica of the movie shield. I want this shield so bad. God any ideas where I can get it? Last I heard, it's priced at $2000. And yes, I'm willing to pay that much. Quote
ErutanXiku Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 ...Is...is that the only one in existence? *_* Quote
odin Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 (edited) awesome replica, i wish i had one. Edited June 21, 2011 by odin Quote
durendal Posted June 22, 2011 Author Posted June 22, 2011 As far as I know, this is the replica of the shield used in the movie. It remains to be seen if any company is going to market this shield. but I would definitely get one of these if it does come out. Some people have guns in their car. Me, I'd like to have a shield instead. Quote
odin Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 About the Deluxe Shield that you posted durendal, if you really are willing to spend any amount of money i would suggest buying either the Factory X or Museum Replicas version preferably the Museum version, that deluxe version that you wanted to buy is pretty thin and wobbly from what i have seen, here is a comparison video of both shields: and here is the one you want to buy: Quote
durendal Posted June 22, 2011 Author Posted June 22, 2011 Thanks, I am aware of the Factory X and Museum replicas. I also had a feeling that the deluxe shield I saw would have similar composition like a lid of a trash can. That's why I hesitated and researched a bit before buying it. But after seeing that shiny shield, I want that instead. I wonder if its bullet proof. Quote
jerrygoodman Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 I gotta say, I may have had my doubts early on, but now I believe this movie will the deliver ALL the goods "What makes you so special?" "Nothing. I'm just a kid from Brooklyn." Quote
durendal Posted June 23, 2011 Author Posted June 23, 2011 I certainly hope so. Cap being my all time favorite character, it's really hard not to have great expectations of the movie. But judging on the trailer, Evans seems to be doing a good job of portraying Steve Rogers as the good patriot. Quote
