They did a live action movie. Released this month. And there is a big fight between Goku & Piccolo.

Interesting Factoid: The director is the same guy who directed the first & third Final Destination Movies. Horror movies about people meant to die in a disaster but are saved when someone has a premonition and they end up dying in horrific accidents.

I know that, I said

Well since they're going with the whole live action movie thing, this is how I think they should do it.

I think that this would be the best way, for the movie industry, to turn DB and DBZ into live action films without making it too corny.

I already knew that they wre making DB into a live movie 2 yrs ago. I am saying since they are doing it LIVE action, that, I think they should make the series like what I said. Because Cell and Frieza would be too dificult and too hard to do. But Garlick Jr. would be easier for people, who arnt familar with DB or DBZ, to understand. Because the first film talked about the wish, so they would know how he became immortal and etc.

Well, I looked up some info ,and apparently they want to make a DBZ, not DB but DBZ film, for a sequel. They said they want to introduce Raditz and Kid Gohan, and in the sequel Goku will die. So I think all along they wanted to make DBZ into live action, but they had to explain the relationship between piccolo and goku, so people had an understanding of their relationship.

I will post the link to this information when I get home, because the pc iam on right now wont let me go to that sight.

I still think the movie overall sucks even after watching it in theaters. Bad script, bad acting, virtually bad everything. I know people will call what I'm about to do "nit-picking," but I call it "$#*+-picking!"

I don't get why Piccolo needs the Dragon Balls to take over the world when the movie demonstrates he's capable of flattening cities and that he's strong. If anything, the movie never specifically states what Piccolo's wish was going to be except you have to assume it's world domination. I don't get the impression he wants his youth back and doesn't look as aged as the original King Piccolo was. I think Marsters as Piccolo wasn't as bad as I thought it'd turn out to be, but I think he could have been more useful. I think it could have been cool during the fights he loses an arm and regenerates it, or turn into a Super Namekian. Also, it doesn't explain how Piccolo was free nor does it explain the relationship between him and Mai that deeply. Was Mai in prison with him or something?

And it also doesn't explain how "oozaru" was defeated along with Piccolo the first time and how he was reverted into Goku. Bad script writing on virtually every level.

I thought Jamie Chung was going to deliver the worst performance, but I think she did better than I thought as well. It shows her character knows a lot about ki, but I don't get why her character didn't use it. I wish it also explains why and how she can train at that temple. As for Justin Chatwin as Goku, he comes across more as a (very terrible) American version to Makunouchi Ippo from Hajime no Ippo/Fighting Spirit than as Goku from Dragon Ball.

The final fight wasn't really much to write home about - just horrible Sci-Fi channel special effects. I've seen better demonstrations of Dragon Ball ki attacks in after effects videos on youtube. And Roshi using the kamehameha to heal Goku was also a horrible idea that I couldn't bare watching. The movie could have just conveniently introduce senzu beans in that scene instead.

Senzu beans would'nt have been an awesome idea for that scene. Well I saw the film, saturday or sunday, and heres my two cents.

I didnt like

The whole Oozaru concept. How he was over 2,000 years old, how he wasnt as massive like he was in the show, how he became a discple of Piccolo, and how he didnt have a tail. I think they'll explain this in the second film. Like Raditz will say "We sent you to earth to destroy it, but Piccolo saw your potential power and made you his disciple.

I also did'nt like

I also didnt like how Krillin and Kami werent in the film either. And how Goku just turned back into a human, instead of having his tail cut off.

However things I did like or thought was done well

Well that they introduced Yamcha as a desert bamdit, and used Capsules. They even had a dragon radar. I thought how they created the demons was pretty cool and the final fight scene was ok.

As a film it was ok, it wouldnt be one of my top favorites but it was descent. It actually did better then I expected it would be, I thought it would be another horrible attempt to make a show into a film, and would be another Guyver Movie. But remember, this is a film, they are limited to certain elements and things they can do, unlike a cartoon. I hope the 2nd one will be better if they make it.

just dropping in to give the 2pence on this film!

watched it this afternoon and didnt have any high expectations... though surprisingly i enjoyed it!!

yes its flawed on many levels but if you watch it with no excpectations its ok. (i had 17 years of excpectations for this film but i had to lose them reading all the negative stuff about it!)

at this point i just want to say that once again the youtube video of saiyaman vs android 17 and 18 is how DB(Z) should be handled as its f'in awesome... sadly it wasnt to be in DB evolution. if they do make a sequel it NEEDS to be on that level for the fighting scenes!

back to evoultion

so lets just say a standing ovation for whoever casted all the main actress hotties in this film  nice eye candy, but i digress... the kid as goku didnt piss me off as much as i thought it would....i dont know how much depth people wanted in the characters! because really there is no depth to the characters in DB, as how the charas were written is how they were portrayed- i didnt get yamchas woah dude bill and ted style, but whatever. the plot wasnt perfect but -meh.

diff people like diff things- i though Roshi using the kamehame wave as a defibrillator was a cool touch bit extreme to use that move but, hey!?!

good points:

was humorous in parts

the action was good - they tried, not just some lame arse boring standard movements.

effects cant be knocked though gokus change was a bit lame

they referenced enough stuff for it to be loosley based on DB such as the mafu ba etc.

goku had a blue and orange hoody which made me laugh

they gave tribute to master Roshis perverseness

dude from ghostbusters who played winston zedmore was mr.po po i think

terrible points:

the fact that Gohan knew Picollo was a namek

Picollo has no antennae??????

no animal people or shape shifting pets!!

air bending WTF??? whereTF did that drenn come from?? - this is DB not f'in Avatar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the dragon radar screen was blue and not green!!! - how dare they!?

gokus stupid trousers at the end

Ozaru was like a midget compared to the manga

Overall its OK 7/10

I would easily have given it a 8 or above save for the absolutely poor and rushed ending- i would put money on it that a good 10 mins was cut from this especially at the end,the duration of the version i have is 82mins of which about 5 mins is credits!!! thats 77 mins!! i mention this as the action was horribly rushed at the end,the elements were there but they should have had more time on them and the editing wasnt the best... i was like is this really happening? or is my brain percieving this wrong? it was close to having benny hill music in the background, im sure if you see it you will see what i mean.... ignoring all the bad points i genuinely thought it was ok up until this point.

if the dvd comes out with an extended version they may save some face.

not what it could have been but worth a watch never the less.

Seeing Ernie Hudson in this movie was a great thing for me considering I'm a lifelong Ghostbusters fanatic/Ghosthead. I'm wearing a Ghostbusters T-Shirt & rubber bracelet as I type this.

I agree with you on a lot of those you mentioned, Eether. Chi Chi, Bulma & Mai were hot!!!!! The humor was great as well. And one has to also consider the fact that the cartoon never really specified a time period. They had humans, technology AND Dinosaurs existing side by side. So making this movie take place today made a lot more sense for those unfamiliar with the franchise. Another great part was Goku kicking ass without landing a blow at Chi Chi's party!!!

The opening scene of Goku's training after the 411 is given about the past reminded me of another Chow Yun Fat movie. "Bulletproof Monk".

His character fought his master on a rickedy, old rope bridge in the beginning.

I have this movie in my DVD collection.

I was also bummed out about not seeing Pwar & Oolong. But then again, how would they explain them being???

Posted (edited)

yeah i remember the scene in bullet proof monk on a bridge i think?

I knew it was ernie/ Winston!!! :)

despite having the dragonballs picollo, ozaru and the chi /ki stuff in it, the capsules etc. i think they just didnt have enough faith or balls to just compleley go in to Toriyamas world, with regards to animal people (whats the corrrect term for this??) like the dog primeminister etc. and puar and oolong and also where was Kinto un / flying nimbus etc. etc?? it would have made it more fantasy like db is really. i see why they tried to make it relate to the 'real world' but wouldnt it be nice to just let a weird and non sensical world be presented?? i dont get the peopl who make these decisions.....what would be better for them doing it how they did it and pissing many fans off or to try to stick to it and give the real fans what they want and spread the word so people actually want to see it thus making more money!?! they could have done both together in a better way culminating in something better than what we got - but they didnt! oh well!

Maybe the Nimbus will come later. Goku just started training under Master Roshi and had far to go. But with mastering the technique that is Goku's signature, he's a lot closer. And I wonder how they'll introduce Goku's father-in-law the Ox King/Chi Chi's dad.

I wore my Dragonball Z shirt which features Goku as a Super Saiyan Level 3 when I saw this movie. The bracelet I wear at all times. Even at work.

I'll be giving my thoughts on this movie in my next video blog where I'll have a buttload of other things to say.

I finally set down and watched this film with a mate of mine and we both agreed it was a awful film

Unless your a fan of dragonball the film is nearly impossiable to follow, as hardley anything is explained properly. And as an adapdation the film is terriable, there was no need to insert a high school romance for god sake. If another film is done any time soon then a reboot is needed and a team that have the guts to produce a decent film that in sprit is faithful to the orginal series. Though given how poorly its performed at the box office and how quiet fox has been a sequal is looking unlikly. Oh well at least I have Star Trek and Transformers 2 to look forward to this summer :)
