  1. Ok so I'm gonna talk about the ninja's of mortal kombat, We'll start with the guys as they came first, then the girls and finally the cyborgs. So as you can see, when MK started out they found a very good way to pad out the roaster with each game with minimal effort. Just recolour their ninja model and throw in some new moves. This is pretty much how all of these guys started out. Here we'll look at how they have changed over the years. I'll also only be touching or the core games for the most part. So were to start? Well it can only be one of two characters Sub-Zero and Scorpion, being that they were in the original game. But who to pick first? While some will say Scorpion is the more popular of the two, I find Sub-Zero is a better starting point since while the two are rivals through the wholes series Scorpion's backstory is tied directly to Sub-Zero, while Sub-Zero's isn't tied to Scorpion. Mortal Kombat It's pretty easy to forget how different the story of the original MK was to later entries, especially when pretty much everything else after it retconned the story. In MK1 the tournamant is not a battle to decide the fate of the world. Instead it was originally a tournamant held by the Shaolin Monks to see who the grand champion was, then an evil sorcerer came who was cursed by the gods to steal the souls of other to maintain his life. Tsang Sung became champion and kept entering in order kill more people until he was beaten by Kung Lao. He returned some years later with an outworlder named Goro who acted as his champion and allowed him to take control of the tournamant totally. Since then he's been using it to feed on the combatants. All of the fighters in this MK are human's bare Raiden, who incidentally is a bored god who was invited by Shang Tsung, and Goro. Going by the promotional comic, Sub-Zero's real name is simply "Unknown" although he I stated to be an assassin from the Lin Kuei. He's been hired to assassinate Shang Tsung. In both Scorpion's ending and the comic it is shown that sub-Zero did kill Scorpion in the passed, although there are some differences such as Scorpion's family still being alive. Not much else is stated however as the least amount of time is spent with these two and Sub-Zero is the most enigmatic of the whole caste. The most emotion he show's is shock at Scorpion being on the boat to the tournament. In the first game Sub-Zero's outfit is pretty much one of a stereotypical ninja, although shoulders are a bit more puffed out and of course it's bright blue. That's kind of counterintuitive to his role as an assassin since the whole point is to sneak up and kill someone befor they even know your there. It's not exactly helpful in the stealth department either. That said he's a Lin Kuei not an typical ninja, so maybe his clan had a different code of conduct to most in their line of work. Combat wise he's only got two special attacks although they are two that would remain a core part of his skill set for the rest of the series, Freeze (a blast of cold that freezes his foes solid) and the Lin Kuei Slide (A low sliding kick). His fatality is the Spin Rip, possible the most iconic fatality in the original game and pretty much put the series right in the cross hires of Censorship crowd. This eventually lead to the creation of the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). In his ending Sub-Zero killed Shang Tsung, earned a pretty penny and retired from his life as an assassin. Mortal Kombat 2 In MK2 the backstory of the original game remains somewhat intact although it is revealed that Shang Tsung was actually serving the interests of a greater evil. Shao Kahn, Emperor of Outworld. It is here that the cannon ending of the first game is stated, Liu Kang was the victor and bested the sorcerer. Tsung went crawling back to his master and begged for a second chance, Kahn granted his request and restored Tsung to his youth. His plan is to now lure earths warriors into Outworld's tournamant to be killed by Shao Kahn himself. In MK2 it's stated that Sub-Zero was thought to have been killed in the last tournamant, yet he has apparently resurfaced to assassinate the outworld leader Shao Kahn. He's ending states that he is actually the younger brother of the original Sub-Zero, who learns of Scorpion's hatred of his elder yet cannot understand why his life was spared implying that Sub-Zero was bested by Scorpion during the story. Design wise Sub-Zero has had some minor changes. The most notable being that his hood is now more skin tight and his mask has been mad into a solid guard piece rather then simple being cloth. His move set know has Ground Ice and the fatalities Ice Shatter and Ice Grenade. Mortal Kombat 3 So after losing to Liu Kang, Shao Kahn decides to invade earth realm via another means. He has his Shadow Priests resurrect Queen Sindel on Earth, which allows him to cross over to reclama her since she is a citizen of his realm. By using this loop hole Outworld is able to invade Earth Realm and begin fusing the two. Sub-Zero appears to help fight against Outworld but a lot has happed since the last battle. The Lin Quie had begun "enhancing" their warriors with cybernetics (Later referd to as the Cyber Initiative) and Sub-Zero along with four other members were selected to undergo the process first. Given no choice to refuse, Sub-Zero abandoned his clan along with his friend Smoke. this was viewed as an unforgivable act by the Lin Quie, who send out their two cyberized warrior Sektor and Cyrax to apprehend the traitors. Smoke was captured by the pair and also cyberized. Now Sub-Zero must try to fight of three deadly assassins why trying to aid the other Earth Realm warriors in pushing back the invastion. As you can see Sub-Zero's design is noticable changed from what it once was. In fact he's the first of all the MK ninja to begin to deviate from their simple pallet swap motif. His face is now completely unmasked, he's ditched his black undershirt, the blue piece on his upper body has been cut back to about half it's original width, his ice blue colouring is now much dark blue (and it would remain that way for the rest of the series) and he know sports a scare across his right eye. How he came by this scar is never stated and a lot of theories exists about it. The over all change was likely done for multiple reasons. First MK3 had no less then 6 ninja characters with a playable version of the original Sub-Zero, Rain and Chameleon being added in later versions. Something needed to be done to make him stand out from the horde. The other likely reason was due to his change in character, Sub-Zero has begun his path towards a more heroic way of life and given up his assassin ways. This change in attire better reflects this more heroic personality. MK3 also gave Sub-Zero, and most of the caste, a much bigger move pool to play with, with him now having Freeze, Ice Shower, Front Ice Shower, Behind Ice Shower, Ice Clone and Ground Slide. Sub-Zero's ending him face all three of his cyborg assassins however he is able to reach his friend Smoke and the two team up to best their former Lin Quie breatharian. Together they defeat Shao Kahn and his forces befor disappearing into the shadows. Mortal Kombat: Movie This is the only part of the expanded series I'm gonna touch on but I have my reasons. The MK movie is were a lot of the elements found in MK3 would be retroactively fit into the story of the original MK. While only 2 characters from the later games would appear in person, Kitana and Shao Kahn, a lot of plot elements were used to better stream line the plot. Such as Outworld wanting to invade Earth Realm from the get go and the Mortal Kombat tournamant being in place to stop Shao Kahn from simply invading any realm he pleased. The elder gods made it so that only mortals from both realms may compete, preventing Shao Kahn from cheating to a digree, and Outworld must achieve victory 10 consecutive times befor they can invade. Also rather then all the earth warriors beating eachother bloody just to see who's best, Earth Realm's best face off against Outworld's. While not all the elements of the film's plot are treated as cannon down the road, a good chunk of it is. I just want to point out that the how Mortal Kombat worked was very intreasting and seemingly a little nonsensical. While the tournamant has set matches, fighters could just meet up and fight on their own also. Normally it's one or the other. It reminds me of something from the Baki manga were it's stated a "champion must be ready to defend his title at all times" not just in a ring. I can only assume this is allowed so that the tournamant is intentionally somewhat chaotic, which makes it harder for any one side to try and manipulate events. That or the guy making the rules was either lazy or a dick. Also since you have at a god and a sorcerer watching over things, you can be shore at least both sides are keeping score when it counts. Since were here Sub-Zero in the film is pretty much here to look cool, fight and little else. Here he's fighting for Outworld alongside his rival Scorpion, both of whom Shang Tsung has control of. As a result he has little to no personality. His over all design is somthing of a watered down fusion his MK 1 & 2 outfits but with a little les detail. The frosty face mask is pretty cool however. It's fair to say that the films CGI effects hand not aged well but Sub-Zero's cryomancy holds up a little better the most and the use of practical effects helps also. Mortal Kombat 4 MK 4 is were a lot of people think the MK series started to loose it's steam. While a lot of it's core elements were still intact, the series was trying to find way to keep going and the directions it took were not always for the better. It started following other fighting game trends, like movies from 2-D to 3-D style fighting, having arena hazards etc but something was just missing. It didn't help that while a lot of their new characters created between the 4th and 8th game were mostly bland. That all said the series still easily come up with cool knew ideas and tell an intreasting story. By this time Sub-Zero has disbanded his old clan and now seems to be without purpose at this time. In the wake of Shao Kahn's defeat however the Elder God Shinnok has risen to power once more and seeks to conquered all. Sub-Zero once again sides with Raiden to face Shinnok brining with him information on how to combat the dark elder god passed down to him from his older brother Bi-Han, but finds himself in conflict with Scorpion once more, the yellow ninja convinced that it was Kuai Liang was responsible for the death of his family. Sub-zero's design is clearly an attempt to stay more faithful to his original design. Unfortunately I feel it doesn't overly works. While the basic premise is ok it feels to bland in places, also the cat-ear like pints on his hood and seemingly cloven feet just look weird. It's by far the character's weakest design for me. As the series went forward, it appears that the creators desperately tried to remove lazy symmetry of the ninja characters, with that in mind it's a little odd that Sub-Zero, who was the first to have his design altered would be changed back to his classic one in this game. MK4 did introduced alternate costumes for the characters and Sub-Zero's are a little better then his main, the first is a reworked version of his MK3 design combining it with his current one and the second had his arms and legs encased in ice, something that would become a reused in his future designs. It's in this game were we first learn both Sub-Zero's true names and alluded backstory between the brothers is hinting at events in the MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero game. The game had you play as the original Sub-Zero who was sent on a mission that tied to Shinnok and lead to the events of MK4. Power wise Sub-Zero is back to using only his core 3 moves once again however he can now us an Ice Staff in combat. In his ending Sub-Zero is bested by Scorpion, who is about to slay him until Sub-Zero states he has no idea what the yellow ninja is talking about. It is then that the necromancer Quan Chi appears and in his arrogance tells Scorpion he had no intention of honouring their agreement, which prompts Scorpion to kill the necromancer and make peace with sub-Zero. Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance After the defeat of Shinnok, Sub-Zero would find himself in conflict with Sektor once again, this time is was for the soul of the newly reformed Lin Quie. Sub-Zero beat the cyborg, becoming Grand Master and took possession of the Dragon Medallion which increased his power. Sub-Zero vowed to reform his clan and moved them to a hidden temple in the arctic, where they could train and rebuild uninterrupted. During this time he gained a promising pupil, Frost, unfortunately her while skilled she was arrogant didn't agree with her masters ideals. Peace was not to last however as Quan Chi was able to escape the Scorpion, who had imprisoned and tortured him after Shinnok's defeat, and formed an alliance with Shang Tsung. This "Deadly Alliance" had slain Shao Kahn, then Liu Kang and were now working to resurrect the immortal army of the ancient Dragon King. Raiden requested Sub-Zero's aid once again and the grand master agreed to help, in part to help set a good example to his clan. He also took Frost with him, hoping the experience would help her develop into a better warrior Sub-Zero's design in this game is a very radical departure from what came befor. He's older, his scare is blue and while his outfit is akin to his MK3 design, it's far more detailed and ornate. He's for-arms are permanently encased in ice. The over all look fits his new role as a Grand Master and while he looks older, he also looks wiser and more powerful. It's also a far cry from his days as a simple assassin. In his end Sub-Zero returns from defeating the Deadly Alliance returned to the Lin Quie a hero and ready to defend earth realm from any threat. Mortal Kombat: Deception In the canonical events of Deadly Alliance, Frost betrayed Sub-Zero and attempted to claim the Dragon Medallion for herself. She was unable to control it's power however and her cryonic power went out of control, seemingly killing here. The grief stricken Sub-Zero, who placed all the blame on himself, took Frost and searched for a place to lay her to rest. He eventually found an Outworld ruin that belong to a clan of cryomancers, of which Sub-Zero become convinced he and Frost were related. He laid her to rest in the ruins crypt and dawned armour he found there, embracing his new heritage. He then tried to reconvene with Raiden and the others, only to learn the terrible truth. Raiden had been forced to face Quan Chi and Shang Tsung alone, worse in the middle of the battle Onaga the Dragon King (Former Ruler of Outworld and a being even Shoa Kahn had called master) had been resurrected. Despite their combined power and a last ditch suicide attack from Raiden, Onaga still lived and was regaining his power. Sub-Zero's design here is a fusion of his classic design with his more ornate current one. A fusion of ninja and warrior. I feel this actually reflects his current state of mind very well, as he has had his faith in both himself and the future he dreamed of tested. He needs something to help keep him grounded in these dark times and finds it in this discovery of his heritage and possible slipping a little into his old ways also. Sub-Zero doesn't play a part in the final battle against the Dragon King. Canonically he spends his time traveling around Outworld and NetherRealm battling the forces of evil. Mortal Kombat: Armaggedon Long ago the elder god Argus foresaw the destruction of all realms. As more and more powerful warriors appeared their ever intensifying combat would eventually destroy the realms. To try and prevent this he tried to create a fail safe. He created the Pyramid of Argus and tasked the elemental Blaze to watch over the realms. When the time was right Blaze would ascend to the top of the pyramid and draw all the warriors to him with the promise of power. Befor this he would send out a sign that Argus's son's Taven and Dagon, who were in hibernation, should be awakened and begin their quest to stop armagendon. Should either of them complete their trials and defeat Blaze, all the warriors would be stripped of their power or killed depending on the victor. Should they fail, then hopefully a warrior would arise to bring some form of balance in some way. Sub-Zero met and battled Taven, testing him to see if he were worthy of the relic in the Lin Quie temple. He would later be drawn into the final battle siding with the forces of light. By the time this game out MK seemed like it was on it's last legs and this was truly the end. The game had a lot of problems but they really tried to give the series a good send off if this was it. Sub-Zero's design is a fusion of his classic design with elements that he would gain later. It doesn't appear to have any strong bearing on his character or maybe it reflects him turning to his old ways with armagendon on the horizon. More then likely this was done simple as fan service. If Sub-Zero had been victor of the final battle, Sub-Zero would have become an ice deity... but one without the approval of the other gods, who would seek to destroy him. In the canonical end, while Armageddon was prevented the actual outcome was not much better. The resurrected Shao Khan proved to be the mightiest warrior and absorbed all of Blaze's power. Mortal Kombat 9 With Shao Kahn's ultimate victory at hand, Raiden attempted to cheat fate by sending his memories of all that had transpired to his passed self during the original Mortal Kombat, with the cryptic last words "He must win". Thus the Raiden of this new timeline must try to make sense of these vision to put reality on a better path. Despite Raiden's best efforts most of his efforts change little. Bi-Han is still murdered by Scorpion and Qui-Liang takes up his brothers mantel and sides with earth realm to take down Shao Kahn. He and his friend Smoke are also fleeing the cyber initiative. However in this timeline Qui-Liang seeks out his brothers killer to avenge his death, however befor he can kill Scorpion he is captured by the Lin Kuei. Sector and Cyrax offer allegiance to Shao Kahn for the right to apprehend Sub-Zero without interference. MK9 was the first MK game to be made by NetherRealm studios after Midway had ended the series. Rather then just wipe everything away, they decided to reboot the timeline. In this game you play through the events of MK 1, 2 & 3. However here all of the changes to the series plot are made part of the games story mode, creating a more cohesive narrative with some new stuff thrown in to spice things up. Sub-Zero's design in this game is pretty similur to his Armageddon one. It's an updated version of his original designs, although here it makes more sense given that this is an updated retelling of the original story. Bi-Han's design is the more simplistic of the two, the over all design being a very plausible get up for an assassin. It's also noteworthy that the blue of his cloths is darker then his younger brother, better reflecting his darker soul. Kuai Liang's design is more ornate and brightly coloured, displaying his more heroic nature. No unlike the original timeline it's Sub-Zero, not smoke, who is captured which leads to... Unit LK-520! At first he is but a slave to the Lin Kuei but Smoke is eventually able to free him. He then acts as a spy against the Outworld forces until his cover is blown by Sektor. After defeating him Sub-Zero works to free prisoners from Shao Kahn's forces, taking on and besting Goro and Kintaro 2 on 1. After everyone is safe his next mission is to stop Quan chi from summoning a soulnado but this brings him into direct conflict with the Black Ninja, Noob Saibot! Fortunately he is able to best his dark counterpart and return to the other heroes triumphant... just in time for Queen Sindel to walking in and murder curbstomp them all! With most of earthrealms warriors killed, Raiden tries to make a last ditch alliance with Quan Chi, if he helps earthrealm he can have the souls of every slain warrior. Unfortunately Shao Kahn already made that deal and had made good on it, as Quan Chi summons the souls of the fallen heroes to attack the god. Raiden is eventually able to defeat Shao Kahn when we realises what "He must win" ment. While Shao Kahn is able to invade earthreal thanks to Sindel, he has no right to merge them and when he tries, the elder gods appear and destroy him. Victory is achieved but at a very heavy price. I'm not going to say anymore about Cyborg Sub-Zero as he goes in the Cyborg Ninja Category. In Sub-Zero's tower ending he and Scorpion learn the truth behind their loses and together they destroy the Lin Kuie. The two disappear into legend, only appearing to defeat evil. The Forces of Darkness cannot defeat this Deadly Alliance! Mortal Kombat X Sub-Zero become a warrior for the NetherRealm, fighting for Quan Chi and his master, the Elder God Shinnok. During this time he had been returned to his human form. Eventually Shinnok was beaten and Sub-Zero was one of the few warriors revived and freed from Quan Chi's control. In the years that followed he followed the path of his other self, rebuilding the Lin Kuei, becoming their Grand Master and even taking up Frost as his pupil. In time we would even finally make peace with Scorpion, showing him that yes the old Lin Kuei had a hand in his fate... but so did his old master Quan Chi. Five years later, Sub-Zero is met by Cassie Cage and her team under orders from Cassie's father Johnny. Not wanting to converse with them, he and his warriors engage them in battle. Defeating Cassie and her team, Sub-Zero reveals that the encounter is a test set up by him and Johnny, chastising Cassie's team's lack of unity while commenting that they have great potential. Sub-Zero and the Lin Kuei are present for the resurrection of Shinnok, combining their might with the Special Forces and Shao Lin to fight off Outworld and NeatherRealm forces until Shinnok is defeated. There's little I can say here about the designs. Sub-Zero is currently following the more heroic path he did in the alternate time-line and his designs reflect his character growth in the same way. The outstanding one is his revenant form which along with is more edgy design and plates of ice armour (hello MK Movie) but also a darker shade of blue... much like his brother!. In his tower ending, Sub-Zero seeks greater power to help the Lin Kuei better defend earth realm, He travels to outworld and discovers a nest of Frost Dragon eggs, Using his power, he is able to hatch the young dragons and they accept him as their master. With the addition of dragon raiders to their forces, none dare threaten earthrealm!.
  2. I always assumed the Uranus confiscated it right after the last panel of the chapter. Given what had just happened, I doubt they were going to leave it lying around were any stray creature could activate it. Hell I'm pretty shore they wouldn't even allow Ark to even bring it back himself given the risk. I also wonder if he every realised the irony of his situation. He needs the very thing that ruined his life to now save it.
  3. So Shang Tsung is the first post release DLC character to be revealed however there's much mote to this. You see the actor who will be portraying him in this game is none other the Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, the man who played Tsung in the Mortal Kombat movie!!!
  4. Hello newbie
  5. I'll defiantly be picking this up. MK is what got me into fighting games, from watching people play the original to finally playing myself from Deadly Alliance onward. The latest games have not only refined their combat and made it more unique, but they've progressively give the fighters more and more personality, from their intros to just how they fight. I also love that they keep bringing in my faviort horror icons as playable characters. Fingers crossed for this game also. The only real downside to this entry is that from the looks of it my main, Reptile, hasn't made the cut which is a shame. That said their are a lot of evil characters who I also like to play being brought back. Really happy to be able to play as Shao Khan proper again, he's not been in the main roaster since MK vs DC. I also like the new characters and it's cool Skarlet is finally joining the roaster proper. For none MK DLC characters that I'd like... The Shape (Michael Myers) - With his new movie and the fact that Freddy, Jason and Leatherface have all made the cut he's the most logical next choice. Chucky - Hard to work in due to his height but 2019 is shaping up to be the year of Chucky what with his remake movie and canonical TV series coming out this year. Not to give away spoilers but there is a way round his height now. The Hell Priest (Pinhead) - Not shore if they could get the rights to him but his power set easily transfers to MK.
  6. Ok so I have working on a Resident Evil themed self insert character. But befor that, because this character is named after me, I might as well get this out of the way. For those who don't already know, my name is Paul. These commissions were done for me by plaguebr of Devient art and the I used myself as a model for the first. G-Paul - Stage 1 Paul’s Note: My name is Paul, please tell my family I loved them. I've barricaded the door so I won't be able to get out and hopefully it will stop me from hurting anyone who eventually comes in. If I hurt anyone I'm sorry. Not sure how much time I've got, I feel (Writing becomes eligible) **** I feel bad. I was on the underground platform with my family when it happened. Panic Screaming Blood Zombies As I was looking felt a pain in neck, turned saw wo woman. Smiling. Disappeared into the crowed. Saw family moving with crowed. Safe. Knew what happened couldn't put them at risk. Ran away (Writing become eligible once more) Feel bad, pain all over but r e a l bad down left side Skin changing wha he uc H u r t F A M I L Y (Letters written with such force the pen ripped through the page) G-Paul - Stage 2 BSAA - Golgotha (G) Virus Briefing Notes: We have had unconfirmed reports that the G-Virus may have been used as part of a bio-terror attack on London. As a result this information is being issued to all BSAA operatives so that they may be better prepared to combat this threat should they encounter it in the field. The G-Virus was developed by Dr. William Birkin, a virologist who worked for Umbrella Inc. Unlike the T-Virus which typically causes cellular necrosis in infected organisms, the G-Virus is able to bring its host back to life with regenerative capabilities effectively granting biological immortality. As a result creatures created by the virus, here after referred to as "G", are highly resistant to small and medium calibre weapons as their bodies can repair damage almost as soon as it's inflicted. Because of this, operatives are advised to engage G's using heavy weapons when the option is available. G are subject to continuous mutation and reactive adaption, with no two individuals being alike. They grow larger, stronger and more deadly the longer they live so it is of the utmost importance that they are located and terminated ASAP. G almost universally have extra eyes growing on their bodies. These eye's grant a greater field of vision but are also more vulnerable to damage. Unlike the T-Virus, the G-virus is not transmittable via injury so operatives who survive an encounter need not fear secondary infection. G are capable of spread the virus however. They accomplish this by implanting "embryos" into another creature's body via forced oral insertion. G will generally seek out host with compatible genetics, specifically the host's blood relatives, to infect but they have been known to infect random individuals a well. While an anti-viral vaccine exists, hosts must be treated immediately in order to prevent the creation of another G. If they cannot be treated they must be terminated due to the risk they pose. There are two types of G. G-Primary - A host who was infected directly with the virus, generally via injection. G-Primary benefit from all the aforementioned abilities the G-virus grants. They are documented as being extremely hostile and should be dealt with caution. The virus robs it's host of their mental faculties, meaning G-Primary function predominantly on pure instinct. While they are capable of limited speech, this is theorised to possibly be a tactic to fool it's primary targets into leaving themselves vulnerable to infection. On very rare occasions G-Primary have displayed vestiges of their former selves, however this is fleeting and should be ignored. There is currently no cure for a person who has begun mutating into a G-Primary. To date only two G-Primary have been documented, classified as G-Birkin (Racoon City Outbreak) and G-Miller (WilPharma Fiasco). G-Spawn - The result of G-Virus embryos gestating within incompatible hosts. The embryo will rapidly mutate and fatally erupt from the hosts body in a matter of minutes. The embryo will then quickly grown into an adult G-spawn. G-Spawn are a shadow of their progenitors. While large, their bodies are malformed and disproportioned, making them generally slow and cumbersome. Their regenerative powers are also lacking, making them far more vulnerable to standard issue weapons and they seem to lack any adaptive capabilities. That said they are still physically quit powerful and use ambush tactics to make up for their lack of agility. G-Spawn have universally been documented as vomiting up embryos as an offensive tactic and some have been recorded vomiting a poisonous slime. There has been one case were a group of G-Spawn appeared to set up some form of "nesting area". During the current operation should a G-Primary be positively identified, it is imperative that any blood relative it may be tracking be taken into custody for their own protection and to prevent the creation of more G-Primaries. Currently we have reports of a creature fitting the description of a G-Primary being sighted in the London Zoo.
  7. A phobia is a type of anxiety disorder, defined by a persistent and excessive fear of an object or situation For me, I suffer from Lepidopterophobia/Mottephobia I.E. I have an irrational fear of moths and to a lesser extent butterflies. This is both odd and annoying, as I find insects and arachnids very intreasting. Think that part of it stems from the fact that while I like them, I'm not fond of them touching me. For example I hold an ant or small spider on my hand no problem but am totally against anything else touching me even the likes of a caterpillar. While insects can make contact with you at any time, moths seem to be a pretty bad offender carelessly making contact with your body and unlike a Fly don't get off at the slightest movement. If that wasn't a good enough cause we can also place the blame on Silent Hill. While survival horror is easily may faviort genre in gaming it's here that I really started to be scared of stuff growing up. From the first zombie in resident evil to even the raptors in Dino Crisis. However the game that hit me the hardest was Silent Hill, I sat and watched my parents play it and while I enjoyed it a lot the game really, really got under my skin. To this day I can only watch playthroughs as the games simple put me too on edge for me to play and enjoy at the same time. Silent Hill plays into other fears of mine, such as isolation, fear of whats in the dark, being hunted etc. Hell I went to see the film when it came out with my parents and while it was just ok and not really freaky all the way through, when the siren first started and the world shifted to it's dark counterpart I just kept sinking lower and lower into my chair in pure terror. Unlike my phobia however this never impacts my life. So to get to the point, the original game has an boss that pushed my fear a bit to hard. The Twinfeeler/Floatstinger I think that I already had a dislike of moths already and having this giant beast come floating out of the darkness in a game that was already pushing my buttons hard just pushed me over the edge psychologically speaking. Other games likely didn't help either as Resident Evil was guilty of not only having giant moths, but giant moths with parasiting offspring. An idea I cannot help but have in mind when seeing a harmless little moth. Other stuff may have also contributed. One of the Omen sequels had a scene where a butterfly crawls in and out someone's mouth while movie Phantoms has a giant moth eat a guys face off. This also lead to have a pretty nasty shock when reading The Island of Giant Insects manga Turns out some moths and butterfly species need extra salt in their diet during the breeding season. They normally get this from rotting fruit and the like but this can lead them to drinking fluid and tears from around the eyes of other animels, which is freaky enough but some moths actually have begun adapting to drink the blood of living animels not unlike mosquitos. Well this lead the giant ones in the manga draining people of the blood and fluids... nice.
  8. I just don't blood believe it! Rapped up Red Barron and have started watching Starfleet, a Thunderbirds style show that was made in japan under the title X-Bomber. But heres the kicker, this series was also created by Go Nagai! The man's portfolio is ridicules, no matter what I do I keep finding his work!
  9. Ok whats your faviort piece of badly dubbed anime dialog. Be it a bad performance, writing etc. For me it's this little gem. Please note that this is THE English dub, as in people got payed to wright and perform this for western localisation. From what I hear this series, Ghost Stories, did so badly in Japan that it's creators pretty much told the English staff that they could do what the hell they liked with the dialog as long is it didn't change the over all story. How that led to this I'll never know.
  10. Ok a few things to talk about today. First and foremost I've had everything on hold because I've been playing Resident Evil 2 Remake. My review, is a bloody great survival horror game and I highly recommend it. Next an update on my fossil collection. As I've been saving up to try and get better fossils (which means more expensive) what I've been collecting has been cool but not overly eye catching. Achelousaurus - Toe Bone Agujaceratops - Bone Triceratops - Tooth Centrosaurus - Bone Plesiosaur - Tooth As a bonus, my insect collection... And my tooth collection around a model T.rex skeleton and an Archaeopteryx fossil replica. One the Super Robot side of things, I had to cancel my view of the Brave series. I've had a few DVD series to watch and some I ordered have gone missing in transit so I just said screw it and am downloading them. So I'm currently finishing up the series Super Robot: Red Baron, a live action series. Finally something of an announcement on the manga frount, no changes to how I'm doing Blue Hole but to what I do after. Because Blue World is only in Japanese it will take me longer to translate that series so while I get that figured out I found this... Dino Sapian came out about a year or so ago and as far as I can tell has no English translations at all... but it has been released in French. So as long as none picks it up by the time I finish Blue Hole' I'll keep my teeth sharp on this while I get set for Blue World. From the looks of it it's your general humans turning into monsters (dinosaurs in this case) and going on bloody rampages style story.
  11. Pretty well, I've been to a couple of beaches around England that and collected a few pieces. I also hunt for more exotic stuff in shops and the webs. If your interested I've posted pictures of them on my blog on this site. Which reminds me I have to post about a few new pieces I've got.
  12. Go for it, it’s been a pretty good series so far. No spoilers though please.
  13. Wow... did not expect to see this today. Hello, welcome to the site. It's nice to meet a fellow dinosaur enthusiast. Like you I was rather shocked at how little dinosaur fiction there is, at least when it comes to manga. Likewise Blue Hole was right at the top of my most wanted list. In 2016 I started to think, well if none else if gonna translate it, why don't I give it a shot. In 2017 I bit the bullet, as you can see, an started translating it. There's a reason you don't find this online, I don't upload it anywhere. I don't do this becuase I'm not a member of any scalation websites and I'd rather not get into any legal trouble. If your dead set on getting this series, I'm happy to talk about it privately. But be warned this is something of a hobby and a slow burn one at that. I've only done 8 chapters to date, I finished that last weekend, and I lost the spark a while back and didn't translate anything for a while. I'm trying to get back into gear and plan to complete a chapter a month, as I have I balance it between my other hobbies which are fossil hunting as well as tracking down other dinosaur material and giant robot anime. On the subject of Fourteen (1990), It looks very intreasting and I will be taking a look. As for Guyver, I was by first anime to. The group that run the site and translate the manga do not just give it away. Any scans you find online were put there without their permission. If your interested, they simple ask that you buy the manga volumes from Japan and provide photo evidence that you have done so. You'll then be granted access to the translation of the volume you purchased. The manga is currently on hiatus for unknown reasons and has been that way for about three years now, however what we have on the site goes beyond the last chapter you'd find anywhere else. It's up to you but I'd say its worth it. Thanks for taking an intreast.
  14. Considering that Saitama's Serous Punch totally overpowered Boros's Collapsing Star Roaring Cannon, an attack that can destroy the surface of the earth (or blow up a planet in the anime), Gigantic's weapons are no threat to the Caped Baldly. That said Gigantic Exceed's Gravity Implosion should work... if it was given time to fire it. The problem is the attack takes time to charge and Saitama generally has little patience.
  15. Lots of pretty cool sounding series here. I confess to only ever watching Overlords anime, which from what I hear cuts out a lot. Never heard of World Trigger whats it about? I've heard about the Ultraman manga and I need to read it. Guilty as charged, always love a good creature feature. Lets see what else I've got Mermaid Saga (Mermaid Forest) Ok my intreast in this series is as old as Guyver and Devilman, due to the fact that the first Guyver VHS I owned was Number 3 which had trailers for Devilman and Mermaid Forest. The story focuses around the legend of how consuming mermaid flesh will grant a person immortality. Our protagonists are Yuta, a fishermen who ate mermaid flesh over 500 years ago, and Mana, a young girl newly gifted (or cursed) with immortality. Together they travel in search of a way to be free of the immortality. On that quest they encounter others who's lives have been touched by the legend and the tragedy that befell them. This is in part due to the fact that the simple word of mouth legend is but a fraction of the truth. For starters, mermaid flesh will only impart immortality to a lucky few every generation. The most either dye or become Lost Souls, deformed beasts driven by pain and madness while to some unlucky individuals a more unique horror will be bestowed upon them. This is a very well crafted horror manga series that also examines why immortality can be a curse. Toriko Probably my faviort shounen series. While other series are based around ninjas and pirates, Toriko is based around food. What generally attracts me to this series, besides it's monsters, is just how imaginative it is. The whole series just oozes creativity and it regularly has pages of pure artwork. This also goes for it's characters and powers. Another appeal is that while not as serious as say Fist of the North Star and can get very light hearted at time, Toriko feels like a more mature series in terms of it's general tone. The main character pretty much embodies this, Toriko is far more adult then most shounen characters like Goku and Luffy. While like them he's very focused on what intreasts him, he never comes off as intellectually or socially stunted because of this. He's perfectly capable of functioning in normal society as well as being eccentric. That said it's not all perfect, most of the caste don't develop much through the series and due to decreasing popularity the series second half was badly rushed resulting in way to much happening to try and rap up the story.
  16. Just talk about manga you really like or are recently getting into. Well everyone here likes Guyver so we'll skip that one. Another one of mine is Devilman but I think a lot of us have read it at this point and/or are sick of me talking about it at a moments notice so what else I got... Majuu Sensen (Beast Fighter) "A secret society of scientists seek to create advanced humanoid lifeforms through the hybrid of man and beast for their almighty Lord Yeshu and the new world that is nigh. When young Shin'ichi Kuruma is pulled into this inhuman pursuit and loses everything, his path of bloody vengeance leads him into the depths of a conspiracy greater than he could ever imagine." Created by Ken Ishikawa, the creator of Getter Robo and a friend of Go Nagai befor his untimely passing, if you liked Devilman this is right up your alley. Generally speaking I sometimes feel that Ken Ishikawa's stories can be better then Go Nagai's, especially in the early days. Here's a prime example, while Devilman came first and is deserving of it's classic statues, Majuu Sensen feels like a more focused story and has reasonable deeper characters, at least when comparing the original Manga. Shin'ichi is an active part of the story from the get go, driven by the betrayal of his father unlike Akira is talked into becoming a Devilman by his friend and is simple fighting the demons because they are evil and his thirst for battle. He doesn't develop a real emotional connection to his battle until later in the story as he starts to loose people he cares about. Power wise Shin'ichi is almost like a proto-type Aptom. His body has been fused with that of a number of animals, the most prominent being a lion, hawk and bear. He's able to alter any part of his anatomy to theirs, such as growing wings or his hand turning in clawed paws, to full metamorphosis of limbs such as his hand turning into a lions head. He's also able separate his animal parts from himself and have them act remotely. While he can be hurt, by absorbing the blood of his enemies he's able to regenerate and grow stronger. A pretty dame good series. The Getter Robo Series Another series by Ken Ishikawa and another example of some of his works being superior to Nagai's. While Mazinger Z had the better TV series, Getter Robo's original Manga is head and shoulders above Mazingers. Darker, more violent and for it's time more sophisticated then Mazinger Z, Getter Robo also surpasses it's more the more popular robot in another way. It's story advances. Let me explain, while I love the Mazinger Franchise it seems to be constantly trapped in it's original story and cannot move beyond it. Sure their have been spin offs such as God Mazinger and Mazinkaiser SKL, but whenever the series seems like it's going to be moving forward it doesn't. The Mazinkaiser series has the new model Mazinger fighting old foes in old battles only with a new and more unbeatable mech. Shin Mazinger is an amazing retelling and I'm not gonna gripe but again, we're in the same story. Mazinger Zero probably tried the hardest to progress the story but its's all just reworkings of the original. Even the offical continuation by Nagai, Mazinger Z: Infinity, for all the development it gives it's older caste just cannot movie beyond the original as we are right back to Dr. Hell and his army. It all done in an awesome way but it's generally more of the same. Getter Robo by contrast had a story that continued to develop through it's five series. Getter Robo, Getter Robo G, Getter Robo Go, Shin Getter Robo (which was a prequal in-between G and Go) and finally Getter Robo Arc. These all come together to create one big series that moves forward but also has a respect for it's passed. For example the original enemies of Getter Robo, the Dinosaur Empire, return several times in later series but not to simple re-tread the ground they had befor. This actually works both ways as the Getter Robo and G manga's would be given new chapter in later releases to better tie them future story arcs. The only sour spot is that Ken Ishikawa passed away during the making of GR Arc so the series remains unfinished. That said Getter's had quit a few popular spin-off most recently Getter Robo Devolution, which I have yet to read but hear good thing about. Cage of Eden Ok this it a bit different from befor, as well as newer. Cage of Eden is the story of a group of plane crash survivors who find themselves marooned on an island inhabited by prehistoric beasts, their going to have to work together to survive the beasts as well as other survivors and work out the mystery of the island. This a survival style story that people have stated has a similur feeling to the tv series Lost. I agree this in as much that the beginning of the series has a similur feel but thats it. At 21 vols, this is a fairly long series and thankfully it had a genuine story to tell. It's not just people running away from danger waiting to get rescued, although naturally the beginning of the story is like this. The island our characters are on holds a mystery naturally and as time goes on our heroes start to settle down and form a community which alters the dynamic of the story. However the stories main draw, at least in the beginning is that it's a creature feacher and one I can honestly say have not seen befor or since, for this island is inhabited purely by prehistoric mammals from the Cenozoic. By mammals I mean a hell of a lot more then just Mammoths and Sabercats, vertually every animal from the BBC's Walking With Beasts series shows up and more besides. All of which are draw wonderfully I should add. Thankfully while they are a important of the series, the series doesn't use them as a crutch and has an actual plot as I've stated befor. Plus if you partial to bloody violence, well prehistoric predators always give a good show. That said this series is not without it's flaws. First and form most, this is a shonen and the caste is made up of a lot of manga stereotypes, thankfully most are written more then well enough to be likable. While not badly written, you'll notice that some of the dialog doesn't feel natural, by that I mean character are not talking as normal people would. The series has fan service material but again thankfully it's not something the series tries to lean on. Finally the series apparently ran out of funding towards toward the end, resulting in a somewhat rushed ending. I didn't know this at the time and persoanlly didn't notice this to much apart from some plot threads not getting tied up by the end. I think one more as it's getting late and oh boy... this is a dozy. Kyochuu Rettou (The Island of Giant Insects) Well for starters I heard about the title of this series, checked it out and... oh dear. Well at it's most bare bones this is like Cage of Eden. Plane crashes, characters find themselves on an island and said island is inhabited by less then friendly wildlife. The difference being vertually everything else. About... 75% of the cast are ether to dumb to live, totally unlikable or both. The series has yet to develop any kind of plot besides "escape island" and most definitely uses it's creatures and fanservice as a crutch to make up for this. In fact this series only real appeal, apart from it's rather good artwork (I'll get back to that), is the fact that it is willing to push it's gore and disgust right to the limit. People die in some pretty bad ways in this manga. Another down side to this series is the constant use of sexual assault and rape, which feels tacked on and pointless. There's also a point in this manga were all, and I do mean ALL, of the aspects I just mentioned are combined. Now I've read so pretty dark manga in my time, to the point that the moment in Goblin Slayer that got the internet up in arms recently didn't even make me raise an eyebrow. So you can imagine that what happens in this moment to which I refer has got to be pretty bloody extreme when if made me say "WHAT THE ****!" out loud. The only thing that stops this from going truly down into the abyss is the fact that it's not shown from slightly different angle. So in summery this is little more then gore porn with giant insects. Aside from that it's only really quality is it's artwork, which is pretty dame good. Also I forgot to mention, the series likes to drop Insect facts at every opportunity which is ok I suppose. Why have story when you can have trivia. I'll be sticking with this series, purely to see how deep this hole goes. Also somehow, I can only assume it's due it's shock factor, this thing is getting an OVA. That slightly annoys me since genuinely better series with a similur premise exist, Cage of Eden, and get bugger all while this dose.
  17. Currently trying to burn through a few of my older series I've had sitting on the shelf for years, Grendizer and Gaiking. While I love these old 70's shows they can really be a slog when your not in mood. Recently I got my hands on Aura Battler Dunbine and while it was very good it gave me a pretty good idea why I picked Super and giant bots over the real kind. Giant and Real robots are like super heroes, their unique and they have character. Real robots, for me, feel so impersonal even when their unique models. Their just a tool to be used, they lack, if I can put it this way, a soul. Despite how good there series was I ended up going back to my older robot shows partly for that reason. With that in mind, once I've finished these 70's series I'm going after a very big franchise I have never watched befor. The Brave Series. This comes from an era of robot anime thats relatively unknown to me. My primary experiances are with post-EVA Mecha as well as a lot of older classic. As a result the 80s and early 90s are new ground for me. I've seen a few series from that period now with Godmars, Goshogun and Dancouga but the Brave series is an important one I've been meaning to get to. According to my research it was the Braves that helped keep the Super and Giant Robot genres afloat in the era ruled mainly by Real Robots. So what better place to start than the beginning with The Brave Fighter Exkizer. On that not I first became aware of the Braves thanks to SRW V an Brave Express Might Gaine
  18. I really did pick a good time to start taking my Giant Robot collecting seriously again, because with ever passing day more and more old shows are getting releases. For example at the end of the month Shin Tetsujin 28 is getting released... I don't recall using any dragon balls but someone is granting my wishs.
  19. Ok rather then keep flooding the "What Anime You Watching" thread I'll post this here. Captain Earth Watched this series after Dancouga. Got it on a whim to. I've heard this show has a bad reputation and I cannot see why, it's not perfect or great by any means but I've seen a lot of other shows far more worthy of contempt. Plot: High-school student Daichi Manatsu works for the Globe (グローブ Gurōbu) organization to pilot a giant robot called the Earth Engine Impacter (アースエンジンインパクター Āsu Enjin Inpakutā) to protect the Earth from the invading alien force known as the "Kill-T-Gang" (キルトガング Kirutogangu), that intends to drain all the life force of mankind to empower their immortal existences. In order to aid Daichi, Globe starts gathering allies including Teppei Arashi, a Kill-T-Gang whose memories have been erased and trapped inside a human's body; Hana Mutou, a mysterious girl connected to the ship Blume; and Akari Yomatsuri, a 17-year-old genius hacker. Together they form the Midsummer's Knights and fight the Kill-T-Gangs who are in search of more of their allies. To describe how this show plays out, thing EVA or RaXephon but less complex for the most part. Not dumb but not as high brow ether. that said the show starts of rather poorly because someone thought it would be a good idea to dump you into this world with a ton of unexplained and confusion terminology. While the other to shows did have confusing starts to a digree, that was intended and they tried not to blow your mind right out of the gate. However once you get passed the first episode things start to slot into place quickly. The characters are all intreasting and likable, although like the series itself they are not as deep as they could be. Mech wise, the Impactors are kind of like Dancouga in that they are giant robots built around more realistic ideas while the Kill-T-Gang's true forms are more a long the line of true super Robots, interestingly the Impactors are shorter and have more powerful weapons while the Kill-T-Gang are bigger and faster. Only real big problem with the show is one I have with most modern anime, pointless fan service. All in all an ok show and worth a watch.
  20. Actually I rather liked it. It's a better blend of real and giant robot themes then some stuff I've watched and I actually liked that it took it's time. It's nice to see the lesser mechs have a function beyond just building the big robot as well as Dancouger's theme of the robot being more then then the sum of it's parts, what with three of the 4 mechs amounting to a pair of shoes and a new head. The only real disappointment for me was the mechs humanoid modes. They really served little purpose despite being built up as more powerful then the beast modes, despite often performing less effectively and used rarely. The only one that was good was Mammoth, partly because the pilot used his master of martial arts to turn the Tank Class robot into an affective warrior. Which OVA do you mean the true ending, the God Bless one or the epilogue one?
  21. Ok I hit a vain of pure super robot gold today. I thought I knew every single 70's and early 80's Robot Go Nagai created. Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, UFO Robot Grendizer, Steel Jeeg, Groizer X, God Mazinger and Govarian. Getter Robo and Getter Robo G he co-created and Gaiking was his original idea that Toei stole from him. But it terns out this is one more, one I'd never even heard of. This mech didn't even make it into the old Dynamic Robot Shorts from years back, which had Govarian and Groizer X. I only found out about this one via some fan artwork. Magner Robo Ga-Keen Plot Info: Ga · Keen (ガ · キ ー ン, Hepburn: Ga-Kīn; Gathering Keen) is the modular robot designed and built by Dr. Mamoru Kazuki, who years ago had predicted the attack of the aliens of the Izar Planet. His studies on magnetism led him to discover that both Takeru Hōjō and his daughter Mai are endowed with a high positive and negative magnetic power. Thanks to the system that manages to develop this power, the two youngsters manage to transform themselves into Magneman Plus, Magneman Minus and pilot the Prizer and Mighty robots. Jumping from the cars of their automata, Takeru and Mai give life to the operation "Sweet Cross", where the meeting of their positive and negative energy cancel each other becoming one thing. This is how the Ga · Keen belt is formed, which together with the components launched by God Freedom give life to the robot. The dominant part of the two energy is definitely that of Takeru, thus allowing the Ga · Keen to exploit the skills in combat of the young. The robot is also equipped with an armament that gradually becomes wider and more powerful. The only weak point of the super robot is the ankles. In fact, in order to improve their running speed, these are narrower and when overheated they overheat. However, this small defect can be eliminated thanks to the huge wheels that protrude from the thighs of the robot. So yeah this mecha is easily the weirdest of the lot by a country mile. It's like some demented cross between all Nagai's rejected ideas for his other bots. It's powers are magnetic based and is formed from multiple parts like Jeeg, only it's a dame sight bigger at 50 meters tall, but instead of coming from a magic bell it comes from two humans who have special magnetic powers. These two people pilot smaller mechs, but jump out of them and combine to make those two small red orbs in the centre of it's abdomen... somehow Dinosaur Wars Izenborg is looking more realistic. Said smaller mechs can latch into Ga-Keen's arms to become guns, not unlike the stuff that would happen in the future Brave franchise. Most of it's on-board weapons are melee with things like the Counter Knife blades one it's hands and the Shark Foot Blade in it's heel, although it dose have one onboard ranged weapon the Miracle Rainbow which is rainbow beam shot from it's face grill. Also as you can see above it's got weak lower legs and has wheels that pop out of it's knees. Apparently they just kept adding stuff to it as the series when on. It's enemies are a race of ocean themed aliens that create Synthetic Beast from the DNA of earth creatures. I've found 7 episodes with subs online.
  22. One upside, Hyper Zoanoids were only perfected during the 80s as for as we know. Thats one less thing to worry about
  23. Currently playing Oakwood. It's on steam for less then 4 pounds. It's a unity asset game and bills itself as a survival horror game. It's first person and since I've not played many games like this the only thing I can say it's akin to is Slender Man, based on game play I'd seen. The general premise is that you going to meet up with your friends for a camping trip out in Oakwood and out of the way campground that hasn't been used for a while. But something terrible lurks in these woods.... I've only played the intro part and it's pretty fun. Cheap but fun, what more do you want for 4.00 pounds? Minor spoiler but I took the games advice and played in the dark... well that was all well and good, it gives the whole thing that extra scare factor... until I found myself trapped in a caravan with a T. Rex outside! Why was that an issue? Well many years ago I had one of my worst nightmares and I remember details from it very clearly even now. The setting is a arid wilderness, surrounded by rocks and mountains but in the centre of it all is a flat, rounded area filled with dilapidated trailers and caravans. I'm sneaking around and inside them because I'm not alone. Stalking me around this place is a Spinosaurus! Needless to say this entire scene in the game really put the wind up me because of how similur it was to my nightmare. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDsDHDWw_fQ
  24. Indeed brother, this heresy will warrant the attention of the Inquisition and possibly the Death Watch. ”Suffer not the alien”. To pollut ones human purity with xenos filth is one of the greatest sins against the god emperor a human can commit.
