there's been a petition for a while about guyver manga in english. not too many signatures. i think a mail campaign would be more effective. people can copy and paste a pre-penned message and send from their personal email address, no need to sign up to a forum or anything like that, more personal too.

it seems odd that the ratings have been so bad for this series so far. I don't really understand why but the ratings are around 3% rather than previous series initial ratings which have generally been around 6% anyhow, I have seen episode 2 so I know a little bit more about it. up to now the mecha have seemed somehow different from what we have seen in the past. I think the presentation of the red guy as a big robot in the first episode might be seen as discouraging? maybe it suggests that there is no gattai robo? I doubt that actually, but i dunno. just wondering if there is any reason why it's not popular. I mean, we all seem to have received it very well.

that seems kinda creepy to me actually. even if it was a girl who took it, it['s still very unhygienic.

perhaps those who are interested in that particular figure, could work on an e mail campaign? I'm sure if everyone who wants one, emailed max factory, they may see the demand and put it into production.

page 12 and 13. with these pages, ends the prologue. chapter 1 next.

I thought you have already uploaded an image by this stage? did you forget how to do it, or did you never did it, or is there an issue with the uploading? well normally, it puts the image tag in first [[image:piccy.jpg|thumb|200px]] then clicks on the link and the uploading is available. edit: but just checked it, seems the uploading controls are absent. will investigate. edit2: for the life of me, can't figure out why, but file uploads was disabled in the settings file. I certainly never disabled it so that's a bit of a pain. well it's fixed now anyhow.

oh wow, has it stopped working? I wonder what occurred? I'll have to look into this straight away. edit: I don't understand it, the only thing I could see is that one of the letters had changed capitalisation in the URL. I guess it's possible that could have stopped it from working... damn. what a pain. I just hope there was no vandalism during that period that might have gone undetected. Edit 2 : in fact, I discovered that e can extend the amount of time that we can look into the history of the wiki editing. it seems we did indeed suffer from some vandalism. user accounts should have been disabled and only accessible from the forum so I am pretty pissed at that. I've deleted the three scummy pieces of drenn and all of their filth from our wiki. it is unfortunate that I cannot easily delete all traces of what they did. there remains a log of what I have deleted. I'll see if i can clear that. Edit 3 : totally cleaned. went into the server admin, used phpmyadmin to manually erase all database tables created by these vandals. feel much better now.

oh yeah. seeing it there like that, it is definitely my work. it's been a long time since i saw that version of my old site! such nostalgia! wow, that was even before i re-themed that site to be a fake cronos censored site. 'chronos' enemy - the guyver'. that was before i even had my own computer.

I watched episode 1 last night then. it's pretty interesting. kinda like dekaranger i thought. and 'let's morphin' is pretty funny. can't really comment about how good it is, since that is just one episode, but the mecha are pretty impressive. the way they are using the CGI is very different from past series and i think it works really well.

What live-action series are you watching or have you watched?
Jess♥ replied to Toku Warrior's topic in Japanese Entertainment
gobusters has already started. episode 2 aired on sunday just gone. I suspect there hasn't been much talk about it because tv-nihon hadn't released their fansub until last night. I don't know about the boukenger vs super sentai movie, but I generally don't watch the movies. I don't feel they are important to the continuity of the series. -
that looks familiar. could that be mine? well you said you think you got it off my old site. so there is a chance it is my work. but i can't say for sure. I can't claim it since I can't really recall clearly, but that colouring and shading does look reminiscent of my ability roughly ten years ago. it does look more and more familiar as i look at it. the text is what really sticks out. that font and that colour.

ah, he he i hadn't noticed that! XD those first two pages are actually page 6 and 7. it's that thing about japanese books. page 1 is generally right after the cover.
-
just read that, wow this is exhilarating! i love how it is written, so interesting. aether, for your benefit, I checked the presence of a pronoun for I in "That's right. I am Fukamachi Shou." and it is there. so first and third person is being mixed.

thanks durendal, I'm not sure why those html tags appear, it happens sometimes, it's this stupid new editor the IPB programmers put in. they were too lazy to add new features to their in-house editor so they got a 'plug-in' one and it just doesn't work right. still waiting for them to fix it and release a new version.

remember how a lot of us reacted to gigantic XD? I think even if you currently think it would be disappointed, takaya sensei has a way of doing things that will make it all good.

cheers Odin! well I have been waiting for TV-Nihon to release episode 1 of gobusters before i watch the final episode of gokaiger. I don't want that sense of emptiness when a series finishes and there is no series to replace it. it shouldn't be too long now. edit: oh the video has been removed! never mind .

I love it. see, this is what translating from japanese is like. because very often, things are inferred from context. I can tell you that where durendal has used 'he', are places where the word 'kare' is used which literally means 'he' or 'him'. the places where 'I' are used in the first page are not actually writing 'I' or 'He', it is all contextual. on the second page, it is written first person because it says 'jibun' which is usually indicating 'myself'. although it can often mean 'himself'. it is my opinion that this is written in third person but it is also written in a weird way as shou's memory is coming back to him. I think the first part would be, "even so, he himself had lost consciousness just now" "consciousness was on the verge of returning." and just before that, "When he returned to see the surrounding scenery, he knew that he had been inside the darkness." oh yeah, there is no plural for boy. It's referring solely to tetsuro. "that figure, I recognised having met him. " I'm gonna get really caught up in this if i look at any more XD, then i won't get any scanlating done. I need to get my priorities straight!

ok cool, so we forge ahead with this then thanks everyone! (i guess i'll just put these here, since it's sunday and you guys have posted and them's my rules! ) good luck with that what you've been busy with Durendal

this is quite challenging. durendal, I am realising that a novel is pretty hard going, especially with the way prose is often written. is this intimidating for you? does it seem like a lot of hard work? I'm just trying to read the situation here.

I hope you don't get scolded because I like what you've done. I appreciate your honest comments too. I understand about wanting to leave it until there is more text to read. also, the phrasing thing is very understandable. when translating it is often very difficult to take the phrasing of one language and adopt the natural phrasing of another language. it's like coming off a motorway straight into a built up area. it's difficult to adapt to the different rules/conventions. I often find it difficult to phrase things naturally when I am translating. anyway, I just checked quickly, and this is written in the third person. so your instincts about page 2 were correct. edit: although the beginning of page two, is clearly written in the first person. so I feel this may be a writing device. I got this impression that the perception of shou when he regains consciousness is very odd. kind of distant or disconnected. so this could be why he refers to himself in the third person.

are we hosting this in japanese on our wiki? edit: I mean, are we having both japanese and english? .... well you know, I guess this is a really slow project because nobody seems that bothered by it. there seems to be no interest, which is surprising since this is a guyver novel that has never been seen in english. it contains story elements that nobody has ever experienced. I am honestly surprised that there is so little response in this thread. I mean, why am I the ONLY person to make any comment on the first translated page? it appears that I am the only person interested in this story. if that is the case then I'm not sure if there is much point us continuing this? on the other hand, is it possible people are not interested in this because japanese texts are being posted and they find it intimidating? I don't know.. I hate to say it, but is this a situation like in oliver twist?

by the way, getsu ga is moon fang. ten shou is heaven something. according to wikipedia, it is heaven slicing, but my kanji dictionary doesn't list 'slicing' as a definition for shou. it's likely that the usage is indicating an opposition, or preventative. i personally think 'against heaven' would be more suitable.
-
well dragon fang would be Ryuga. earth shattering should be daichikudaku. but that may not be the most elegant way of saying it.

What live-action series are you watching or have you watched?
Jess♥ replied to Toku Warrior's topic in Japanese Entertainment
Did I tell you guys I'm watching Zenkai Girl? it's really nice drama about a girl who was really poor as a child, studied hard to become a lawyer and is aiming for teh top, but she meets a guy, an 'annoying pill bug' who is not successful rich man but she finds that she is smitten by him. their relationship is one where they are pushed together by circumstance but she is such a stubborn woman she will not admit she likes him and things always get fraught and complicated. she is in a relationship with another guy but keeps swaying back and forth, thinking she should realise her true feelings but then something else happens to make her even more stubborn. the cherry on the cake in this series is the children. I love seeing japanese kids in drama, they are always such incredible actors and for such a young age, is so impressive. a lot of the story is conveyed through the childs perspective. they see so much truth in the world around and actually pass on so much wisdom to the adults. it's so funny to watch. -
wow, now I am definitely interested in this! I am very intrigued by the way the character interactions are presented! to see these heroes, are NOT bum chums already, they are at odds with each other , that is really really cool! I am really looking forward to this now
