June 20, 201510 yr Okay, so I grew up with the good old fashion minimizing apps taking you back to the desktop and using the start menu and all of that. Well ever since I got my new laptop with Windows 8.1 on it, that's all changed and out the window. Microsoft has completely done away with the start menu and the minimizing of your app/game/int window or w.e takes you all the way back to the start menu page which is so frustrating, infuriating and does nothing but causes more work! UGH!!! I've been dealing with it for six months now and I've had it! It was better the old way, why did they HAVE to make us use this new system? IT SUCKS! The old way was much faster, much better and far more convenient and easier to use. This new method that they think is so superior and better is complete crap, and the fact that they're making us/forcing us to use it when nobody wants to is complete crap. Just curious does anyone know of a way of how to bring the old minimizing back to desktop rather than startup menu back? Or would I have to go back to windows 7? I'm seriously considering it, this is total crap and not better than 7 at all in anyway shape or form.
June 20, 201510 yr download and install "classic start menu" I think it's also called classic windows shell or something
June 20, 201510 yr Yes. Windows 8 sucks. We've known this for a long time, including Microsoft themselves. I was saddened when I got my new PC last month that I had to get Windows 8 installed. If you have it, there should be a little windows like icon on the bottom right of your task bar, to sign up for the FREE Windows 10 upgrade that drops July 29th. All Windows 7 and 8 users get it for free. From what they have shown, Windows 10 will restore a lot of previous features that were removed in Windows 8 to make it feel a lot more like previous versions. Or if you're able to get Windows 7 on the cheap, you can "upgrade" to it... But can still get Windows 10 in a months time.
June 22, 201510 yr So when has Microsoft NOT ticked anyone off? I understand your situation as I'm using windows XP from home as well as from my previous juob. Now, they hand me a laptop, and BOOM, windows 8. At least majority of the shortcut keys are still there. If you want to minimize all the apps/programs, just press Windows Key+D, and it will minimize all the other programs and show your desktop.
June 22, 201510 yr You could always install classic shell to restore the good old Windows XP style GUI back onto your Windows 8.1 laptop.
June 24, 201510 yr Windows 8 reminded me of the hell I went through with Windows Vista. In fact it felt like a total repeat. My wife bought a laptop with Vista on it once, but had Windows 7 installed on it instead. Than she got a laptop with Windows 8...I think she had just as hard of a time dealing with that.

Allot of people had a hard time dealing with the new Metro GUI using in Windows 8. If you asked me it was stupid for Microsoft to use the Metro interface for every version of Windows 8 as it just made it harder for everybody who were already use to the standard Start Menu interface to figure out how to use Windows 8 as we had to relearn how to navigate the GUI.
