I wasn't sure where to put this, but it HAD to be posted somewhere since this law Congress is trying to pass will affect this site.

SOPA is a revised version of the Online Privacy Act that the United States Congress tried to pass back in 2011, only this time the forefront of the law is centered on fan-made postings (fanart, fanfiction, fanvids, etc.).  If you are caught with such things and found guilty, you could be sent to prison for years under felony charges, even if you are not making a profit from said works.

There is a petition to stop this, and it needs a total of 100,000 signatures.  So far there are over 20,000 signatures.  I have already signed it.  My fan buddies: SIGN IT!  Let's stop these old farts on Capital Hill from wrongfully convicting artists and fans for showing their love of a series on the internet!

I don't know if this will complete affect this site since it's not US-based, but this will affect me and my fellow American users. Bills, and other repressive laws like this make me wonder if I should leave the country.

America used to be 'the sh it', now it's just....

there are some awesome people in america. just a shame about the assholes in charge.

I wish I could say the UK was any better. psh.

does my signature count for much since I am not a US citizen?

by the way, the server this website is hosted on is based in the USA. and beside that, doesn't this thing concern the creators of such works, not the place where said work is hosted?

Oh, I thought it was UK-based.

As far as SOPA goes, the way it was written last year, the government could prosecute the 'offender' of the copyright issue without the copyright not even knowing there was an issue.

Oh, not this SOPA BS again.  Every year for the past 2-3 years they do this.  Can't they just let it go.  I'm an American and I can't stand how my country tries to act like the world-wide police force.  I swear, they just need to take all of the old skeletons that run Capitol Hill, the Senate, etc...and give 'em the boot and put in a bunch of fresh young minds who know what they're doing and what actually needs to be done and aren't concerned with lining their pockets with taxpayer's money.  Will this ever happen.....probably not.

Aha, this coming from the nation who spies on every other country. It’s funny how some people are such hypocrites. No offense to our American friends, but how can your leaders be such asses.

Personally, I'm wondering when the American Empire will fall. We don't need bases in your countries, and we need companies to stop exporting all the jobs that would help support the now vanishing middle class.

Spleach, our economy is circling the drain.  I give our country another 3-6 years at the least before another civil war breaks out.  With all the bills the government is trying to pass and force down on all of us who have to work and live from paycheck to paycheck while they get to live in the lap of luxury....yeah, America's gone to hell, man.  SOPA is just one more way that they're trying to take away our freedmons.

Not to mention the FEMA concentration camps and all these insane bills giving the people in power all these crazy rights to do whatever they want. They're even labeling groups as home grown terrorist who they claim pose a serious threat to the nations security. Groups such as: Evangelical Christians, Mormons, Church of Ladder Day Saints (Jehovah's Witness), Catholic Church, Tea Party, Ron Paul Supporters and many more. It's ridiculous.

Anyways this is complete insanity, what harm is there in having a fandom etc? There's no profit that people make, it's out of fun and artist creativity. As long as you give credit where it's due what's the problem?

I think you guys do need to really be concerned about this.

it'll certainly effect me but not nearly so much as US citizens.

from my perspective, the USA looks more and more like Soviet Union day by day.

There's a statue in the New York harbour. I wonder if those guys in Washington remember what it represents.

11,000 more signature to go!

I give our country another 3-6 years at the least before another civil war breaks out.

Texas is already making their own currency and backing it with gold.  I think civil war will break out much sooner than a few years with Texas and a number of the southern states ready to break from the nation.

Actually Riv I just moved out of Texas. They've been preparing for a secession for some time now. They have the tenth strongest economy in the world right now, and that's why so many state citizens are flocking over there. It's ironic that the liberals in Cali got most of the stuff they wanted but are now fleeing Cali and going to Texas lol. The Texans are pretty upset about it.

Anyways, if/when another Civil War breaks out it won't be South VS North again, it'll be citizen vs government/big corporation. It'll be a clash of ideals and political parties; especially conservative and liberalism. When Texas pulls the whole Bible Belt will too, but that's what will most probably spark the conflict. The Texans are preparing for it, and they won't go down without a fight I can tell you I know all of the people I've spoken to have told me "They can come get my gun from my cold dead fingers." And they will, what are you going to do when a tank comes rolling up to your house?

Texas would most likely be the leading state/head against Corporate America, who would most likely be based at D.C. or New York. Ryuki many Americans are outraged about this, but other than signing a petition and informing people there is not much we can do. Sad as it is, the political state of this nation has gotten to the point that it really doesn't matter what the sheeple say or do because we're too stupid worrying about things like the Trayvon Martin case, or Miley Cyrus's performance. In fact some (including myself) are so enraged by people who just don't even care about what happens to this nation they'll just sit back and let anything happen anything at all, because they don't care it's not fun or important to them, besides who cares about politics? Ugh I can't stand people like that. These guys swear like sailors but their points are valid.

Yes this is a call to celebration even if we stalled them. We'll have to wait and see how things play out in the long run but for now Victory is ours!
