With the way mobile technology advances and the way people switch phones like clothes, it got me thinking how many phones people have ever owned, and how long do they usually keep their phone before they change it.

For me, I got my first phone way back in late 90's.  I started using the Nokia 5110 for about a year or two.  Since it was not my phone of choice, I switched to the Nokia 7110 when I received my first salary.  Used it for around 5 years before it finally broke.  My next phone is the Nokia 6260.  Used it around 3 years or so before it died on me.  Then I got the Nokia E66 which became my main phone until a few months ago.  Used it for about 4 years.  If you notice a lot of my phones are Nokia.  I'm very particular about the features of the phone so I really spend time trying to research the phones that would suit my needs.  And if you notice, I only change phone when they break.

Now for my second phone, I started using one around 2007 which I am now calling my work phone.  I started off with a Nokia 2700 (company issue).  It was a cheap feature phone, I had no intention of changing it until I lost it after a year.  So I bought the Nokia C3 until 2 years ago our company started mandating us to carry blackberry for us to be able to check email on the go.  So I stored my Nokia C3 and started using the Blackberry Curve 8520 (company issue).  It was hella slow retrieving emails so I bought the Blackberry Curve 9360 after a few months.  So I was using it side by side with my Nokia E66 until last March.

Since I was paying for an unlimited data plan, I found my phones to be under utilized and finally took the plunge and got the Blackberry Z10.  Since my Nokia E66 is starting to give, I decided to retire it and replace it with my Curve 9360 instead.  Now I'm rocking 2 Blackberry phones.

Reflecting on this, in a span on 15 years, I have had 9 phones total and has been using only Nokia and Blackberry.

The reason why I am using 2 phones is not because of the limitation of the phone, but more on the limitation of the network.  I'm keeping my first network ($8 monthly contract) simply because they have the best coverage, and they don't offer this kind of plan anymore.  My second network costs me around $43 a month ($36 monthly contract + $7 phone subsidy locked for 30 months), which includes unlimited call, text and data.  But they have lousy coverage.

What is your phone story?

I believe these are the only phones I have owned, but my memory is hazy before 2005.

I am thinking I had another phone before the motorolla, , might have been 1997, and might not have switched to motorolla until 2000 or whenever. I really can't recall very easily. though I do have a faint recollection of a vodafone branded phone which was probably manufactured by somebody else. I remember it was blue and that's about it.

1998 - 2002 Motorola V3690

2002 - 2006 nokia 3200

2006 - 2009 sony ericcson s700i

2009 - 2012 nokia e63

2012 - 2013 iphone 4

I never really used a mobile phone as i never had a crazy social life or needed it for work or anything.

only when I got my iphone 4 and decided to take out a contract, I started using it so much more.

Here's my story:

1) (2004-2005) Siemens C45 - I have it even now, but it's not working at all.
2) (2005-2007) Nokia 3310 - Also still have it, but the phone book not working.
3) (2007-2007) Motorola C118.
4) (2007-2008) Samsung SGH-C200.
5) (2008-2009) Samsung SGH-U300 - It was a little broken and then lost. SIM card is also lost and I can't restore it, because it wasn't mine.
6) (2009-2010) Motorola RAZR V3 - Lost somewhere in spring puddles. And again lost SIM card and again it wasn't mine.
-) (2010-2010) again that old Samsung SGH-C200 - crushed terribly while sparring x))
7) (2010-2012) Motorola RAZR V3i - the charge system is broken (can't start the charge process). Photo: http://noisecore.ru/t.jpg (BIG!)

8) (2012-2012) Nokia c1-02 - Lost it.

9) (2012-2013) Nokia c1-02 - Still working. It's same as previous, even that crazy colour...

I chose Nokia c1-02 because it have very loud MP3 player and it's very cheap.

Wow, so many phones.

I'm assuming this does not include land lines, for which I think I've had of those in total.

I got my first phone in 2002/3.  It was a motorola something, it had a cheap camera which was cool at the time.  It broke, so I replaced it with a similar model, a nice upgrade.  That one broke too.  The problem was that I couldn't hear people on it any more.  Dropped it too many times.

2007, I asked a friend whom worked for the store about what the most durable phone would be.  She gave me another motorola, with a few less features, but it's worked incredibly well.  The paint is pealing, the model number sticker fell off, but the phone keeps ticking perfectly.  It has a calender, alarm clock, calculator, text (for the rare occasion people want to type to me), voice mail/id, and for the rare occasion... I can even call people!

I have no desire to upgrade, but if I do, it would be to a blackberry, because of the security features/encryption techniques.

Since about 2002 I've had 4 cell phones... But have always kept my same phone number.

1. Some Motorola Flip phone - It was smaller, black and had an awesome orange lighted call display when it was closed. But when it's battery started to go I got a...

2. Motorala Razer V3. Loved the thing. Had it for a few years, until I shattered the glass display. While I COULD have gotten it fixed, due to our family plan I got got my next phone for free ( except with the 3 year extension contract of course)

3. iPhone 3G. Bought the weekend before the 3GS was annouced. Go me. Either way, I started to really love it, and it pretty much convinced my family to get one as well. But as I said, I got it late in its life, so it really started showing it's age 3 years later. But instead of upping simply to the iPhone 4, I decided to go to...

4. Samsung Galaxy S Captivate. My current phone. I like the Android OS more than the iOS. However, the phone is showing its age now too ( been about 2/2.5 years) and the exernal speaker doesn't always want to function.

So I am now planning on updating again... And despite everything Samsung does being a total rip off of Apple ( literally, their upload program "Kies" is a very poor iTunes ripoff. But not required to put things on your phone thankfully), I'll probably go with the new Galaxy S4 ( I think that is the newest).

Even if it means that I don't get to use one of those badass Iron Man phone cases that are exclusive to the iPhone 5.

4 phones, my first was a cheap verizon, I didn't even want it, but was given to me as a gift. but I hated the plan. Had it returned in a month, years later started using metro PCS. I've had 3 phones with that provider, in the last 4 years. One I had just wasn't good quality. Switched to a better one some months later. That one was pretty good for a few years, and my brother wanted a phone. Went out got a new one for myself and gave him the old one, I actually prefer the previous phone to my current one.

All my phones have been cheap, and low tech. Only my recent one seems to remotely high tech since it uses a touchscreen, but it's no android OS or Iphone OS.

my first phone was a 5110 aswell, back then when they first came out, they were considered a good phone,(real basic) but ofcourse wifi and the internet on a phone was another 15odd years away! have to admit, i wasn't sure how it all worked out at the beginning and got screwed over on a plan even though i had bought the phone outright(called a front runner deal at the time). so instead of getting the phone for free on a 2year plan which included call&text, ended up paying for the cost of the phone upfront and still was signed up on a 2year plan instead of prepay as you go.

upgraded later to a 6233, was a good phone aswell, had acouple extra features like blutooth and was able to connect to my computer with it. after a while decided i really wanted something with a bigger screen than what the nokias could provide at a cheap price.

then went to a samsung flip phone, e720, nice phone, compact when folded and nice screen, found that i wasn't able to receive mms from other people because the company i was with didn't support my particular phone, which i found ridiculous! this was the only down fall i had with it from what i can remember.

before buying my next phone, i decided to do my research and wanted a phone that had more options than i needed, but were there incase i would need them later. so ended up buying a samsung i900 and what a great phone. it had windows operating system on it and came standard with windows office aswell. also comes with a inbuilt gps chip, but without appropriate software. so i just purchased garmin world maps for mobile, loaded it onto mini sd card and presto, instant personal gps. at the time there were only two other phones marketed with gps function, nokia and htc.

the nokia phone actually used the phone towers to track your location(much like todays smart phones) so that meant usage costs.

the i900 and htc actually became stand alone gps with their inbuilt chip, so it still works without a simcard so no usage charges, found that the htc was not as accurate as the samsung.

so i was using it in my car as a gps unit, and when travelling overseas i'd use it as a personal gps aswell since the maps are only afew years old, very accurate.

the only problem with the phone is windows response time. doesn't matter if its on computer or phone it seams!

my current phone is a samsung galaxy2s, love the os, nice phone, use the internet on it alot.

haven't had it for long and im already having problems with it though. its doing a few weird things and now found the battery might be stuffed, as it doesn't hold a charge for very long and the battery light continues to pulse/flash and although it does recharge, theres no acknowledgement from the phone when i do plug the charger to it.

so ive ordered a new battery and if it doesn't solve the problem, i'll be throwing the phone straight in the bin and buying something else.don't know what but definetly won't be an iphone.

yeah the samsung galaxy does seem like the best on the market these days.

When my contract is up, I plan to upgrade to a samsung galaxy too.

I definitely made the wrong choice  when I started this contract. I even had the choice between this phone and the galaxy.

I'll try and do this accurately.

2002/3 - Alcatel OT 310

2004-5 - Went through two Nokia 3315s and a 3310 (instead of replacing broken screens, I just got another phone for free from a family friend or friend)

2005-2006 - Nokia 3200

2006-2007 - Nokia 6085

2008-2011 - Nokia 6300 and 6700

2011-Present Day - Nokia C3 (I swear by these phones. Absolutely amazing. I refuse to get a touchscreen/smart phone, so I stick with this). I've had 2 of them because the first one was drunkenly smashed.

That adds up to 10 phones in 10 years (approx)

i found out the problem and fixed my phone, and it wasn't the battery.

took delivery of the new batteries i ordered, charged one up and installed it. turned on the phone and started having the same problems.

scratched my head alittle and decided to actually have a look to see what could be causing the issue.

when i found the problem, i just :frusty: . ohwell, atleast i've got three new genuine batteries and a remote wall charger for only 20bucks.

found that the positive pronge in the bottom of the phone where the charger socket plugs into was bent down and making contact with the phones chassis. shorting out the battery and no doubt, the phone. went unnoticed since the charger still had a positive feel when plugging in and was still charging. gently straightened out the pronge and all problems solved.

thought i'd post the solution here incase someone ends up having a simillar problem.
