*PrimalNemesis Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Anyone here on the forums a fan of pro wrestling? If so what is your favorite company? Who are some of your favorite wrestlers? What are some of your favorite matches? I do not currently have a favorite company, but I do watch various promotions when I can. Some of my favorite wrestlers include CM Punk, Samoa Joe, Bryan Danielson, AJ Styles, Matt Sydal, Austin Aries, Colt Cabana, Jay Lethal, Christopher Daniels, Claudio Castagnoli, Nigel McGuinness, Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Davey Boy Smith, Owen Heart, Vader, and The Undertaker. I have many more. Quote
durendal Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 (edited) I have never heard any of the names you listed except for the last few names. So you could probably tell which wrestling company I follow. I've not seen any wrestling since the days of rivalry between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Probably even into the Mcmahon/Austin fued. I'm not even sure who's the face and who's the heel anymore. Last time I checked, John Cena was the crowd favorite. I've started watching this since the start of the Hulkamania days. Catchy song! I am a real American, Fight for the rights of every man, I am a real American, fight for what's right, fight for your life! Edited December 28, 2012 by durendal 1 Quote
LordSpleach Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 I watched WWF(Not WWE, I don't a company should change it's name because of initials, regardless of reputation) since the Attitude days till the WWF/WCW merger and the beginning Raw and Smackdown roster split. Long live THE ROCK N SOCK CONNECTION! Quote
*Jess♥ Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 I'm sort of the same as durendal in this regard. I remember watching it a bit back when Hulk hogan was the biggest star in it. I remember going to the cinema to watch mr nanny because if it. I remember back then, I used to really like the ultimate warrior. Then the undertaker arrived. loved him. the best one I watched was when there was a fight between two of them and they had to get one into the casket. that was pretty awesome. I stopped watching for ages then i watched for a fair bit when the rock was fighting triple h. stone cold steve austin was a name around that time but he wasn't fighting. when he came back was around the time i stopped watching again. but I've seen bits and pieces since then. was always impressed with the big show. oh yeah it was also really cool when the nature boy came back and started fighting properly. I was very impressed by how buff he became. after being such a weasel in the olden days, it was very cool to see him become more impressive. I'm not a fan of the newer styles of stars like johnny cena. I really liked the old wholesome family entertainment, but not so much a fan of the hip hop culture that is being brought into it. but I guess that is what the fans go for and I'm not exactly a dedicated fan. edit: the rock and sock connection... that is the rock and cactus jack ... mankind ... mick foley? I vaguely recall that... wasn't there one episode where foley was stuck in the toilet cubicle? Quote
*PrimalNemesis Posted December 28, 2012 Author Posted December 28, 2012 (edited) Most of the mainstream wrestling is complete trash nowadays. I personally prefer the technical styles of the independent promotions.I started to get into wrestling way back in the early nineties and then got heavily into it during the early attitude era. I was also into the Monday night wars between WWF/WWE and WCW. I even watched a little ECW when I could. The stuff that is peddled out today is garbage! And it has nothing to do with the WWE being rated PG! There simply is no magic anymore! Story lines and matches are all generic. There really is no splendour any more. If you really want to watch quality matches then I would suggest checking out some of the old ROH DVDs that are offered on Amazon. Here is a classic match in case anyone is interested! LordSpleach Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Ryuki, the rock and sock connection was The Rock and Mick Foley as Mankind just to clarify. Quote
*YoungGuyver Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Was force fed this by my stepdad. Lost interest fast. Bad acting and fake fighting. If the fighting is fake, then I want extreme drama like in a movie. If the fighting is real, then I want the bad acting completely out of it. And so much of what I've seen in wrestling entertainment is in poor taste. Now pride fighting, octogon, or K1, that's more like it Quote
Cannibal Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I like it but not following current events. I watched it many years ago. My fav wrestlers was Goldberg and Sid Vicious. Quote
TheAptomStrain Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 I was actually a Professional Wrestler on the independent circuit for about 3 years. These are the gems I dug out. Quote
*V Guyver Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Ahh wrestling. So much of my youth. I remember when Ultimate Warrior, Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Razor Ramon, and Ted Dibiase ruled the aired. Hell Shawn Michaels was a nobody in a tag team when I first started watching. As silly as wrestling was, I loved it. But I have to say that it's lost so much of it's appeal in that after the McMahon family fully got involved in plot, it went to hell. Literally, some of the worst wrestling plots in the last 30 years Ugh, they even have Freddy Prince Jr. as one of the writers and managers in the WWE, and the show hit rock bottom when that happened, and I haven't been able to enjoy it since. I know the WWE has had awful, terrible, and forgettable gimmicks, but once you get in the way of the wrestlers with their personalities and throw in none wrestler characters who influence too much of the plot, it's not viable. This on top of all the rehashed wrestling plots, moves, and the stranglehold older wrestlers have in the industry against upstarts is god awful. The moment WWE's competition got taken out, you ruined the industry. There is no one to keep the WWE on edge, and now talent and new plot is buffered into a slow trickling of what should of been a strong fast stream of water into the industry. Quote
