So perhaps we can get people's opinion on the thread.

the winner is to receive a 'follower of Yuinyan' t-shirt in the colour of their choice.

Perhaps we can add appreciation of the beauty of Miss Ichikawa? I find nothing wrong with the thread, and I'm actually impressed that Harry managed to continue updating it as opposed to my "Tribute to Asian Women" thread. Now that thread I can clearly say that it's a parody of the male-dominated society.

in all honesty in the 4 1/2 years ive been visiting Japan Legend ive never looked at the thread properly. i looked at it once i think and saw it was only pictures of - forgive me harry capstan - just 'some japanese bird', and so i never returned to it , because thats not why i visit here.

now that i have actually looked at and READ the thread i will say that i do like the comments that Harry Capstan puts with the pictures.

i understand the concept of his expression for the divinity of Yui Ichikawa( but dont understand why he calls her Yuiyan ?)

the way i see it is that you could put any picture of any female here and it would be a representation of the physical manifestation of the divine, or possibly a representation of the archetype of the mother goddesss from which the universe arose, as really that would be no different to the worship of Mary mother of Jesus for that is what she is, an archetype symbol. (although you don't tend to see pictures of her in a bikini :) ).

In this case though you cant help feel its slightly skewed by the personal preference that Harry Capstan has from inside his pants towards Yui Ichikawa, but its his thread so thats his choice.

Only problem is it is an objectification of a single woman not neccessarily for any qualities she has actually displayed in a tangible way but only for her tangible physical beauty -which you could argue is or isnt enough-, point being if she was some old hag with wrinkles and hairy warts would Harry be worshipping her?? probably not, but who cares, i think the only ones who would have a problem with this would be women who cannot get there head around the concept of the symbolism of this...

Fair enough the running metaphysical commentary might just be a clever exscuse to post pictures of a scantily clad japanese girl, but without the commentaries it would just be a thread for dudes to go phwoar! check her out!! - not that theres a gargantuan lot wrong with that (some women might not agree but they dont have a second brain in their pants to contend with) so i think the commentary in some way brings it closer to actually being art, because it gives a concept to the reason for posting the pictures.

In conclusion i see it as a uniting of the two brains of Harry Capstan into an intergrated whole!.

just a note here...

'nyan' is a product of the way some japanese girls act like cats.

don't know if you've heard of 'nyancat'?

yuinyan is a way of referring to her in a cute fashion, similar way could be yuitan, yuipon or yuichan etc.

Aether, I share your view. no surprise there of course,

but I do wonder on occasions if this is also rather tongue in cheek.

I wonder if Harry Capstan has a strong spiritual identity but perhaps does not literally associate with yuinyan in this way. the messages listed with the images do seem to be too poignant to be conjured out of thin air as part of an elaborate ruse.

then again, these messages could actually be paraphrased from some metaphysical or spiritual website.

but of course it is my opinion. I think it is useful for people to postulate.

Ryuki, thanks for the explanation on the 'nyan'...

i havent read the entire thread so i might have missed something but from what i have read if he is serious i get it like i explained above, however it does seem a litttle OTT and taken to the Nth degree to be 100% serious.

if it is tongue in cheek fair enough but there must still be some grain of actual ' worship' or reverence in there, i.e he thinks she's hot! otherwise why bother??

i dont know, who knows?? it is kind of an anomalous thread on the JL board but i dont think it does any harm - especially now i know its got metaphysical type stuff in it!

i guess the only way we will know is if the man himself gives a full explanation...but maybe its best he doesnt- just to keep the mystery going! :) come to think of it , does he even post anywhere else except in the Yui Ichikawa thread??

no, I'm pretty sure he hasn't posted anywhere else.

the only other place he has written anything is in PM's. (for assistance with technical issues. )

Personally, I just think it's gone on for long enough. It kind of creeps me out to keep seeing it. How many years do you need to keep saying the same thing in a thread for?

I'm all for freedom of speech though. I don't have to be comfortable with it, but it's you're right to be creepy. Just don't do anything that warrants a restraining order

if you honestly think the thread poses a serious concern, we can always discuss that.

I've never seen it as a problem, but if a number of members find it truly objectionable and/or offensive, then obviously we need to look at what is best for the majority.

Like I said before, I don't see anything wrong with the thread. If it bothers me, I can't see why I couldn't simply ignore it. I post as I please in this board and it will definitely bother me if another person tell me to stop posting something that I find harmless. I will actually feel oppressed by that.

The guy seems to have a fixation for a certain personality. So what? There are only a few of us left here who are actually posting stuff. Would we want to reduce it further? So unless he starts posting buck naked pictures that shows female genitilia, I say we leave the thread as is.

I've always found it a very peculiar. I'm astounded that he has managed to post for so long in a single thread. I am also a little curious as to why he DOES only post in that single thread. What attracted him to do this at Japan-Legend in particular. All very peculiar. I don't have a problem with it per se. I can fully understand where Young is coming from when he says he finds it a little creepy. But I'm sure there is no malicious intent and there isn't really any evidence that there will so we may as well leave it as is.

I never thought of the 'quotes' in each post in respect to the poll options though. Thinking of them as parodies of anything now, I am quite amused, hehe.

anyway as durendal said, he's an active member on the forum. Why cripple our numbers?

Posted

he does post a similar thread in other forum/s.

I recall seeing this somewhere else in the past. but not many.

as for why here...

could be due to Durendal's admiration thread.

a google search for japanese idols would have thrown up that thread for sure.
