what follows is a thread that follows progress through the series up to the current episode of naruto shippuuden and will have up date info in the manga,

it should be put in spoilers but if you're badly behind, take a bit of care.

here is a filler thread if you want to avoid fillers - http://www.narutoforums.com/showthread.php?t=501381

spoilers

so I had it ready and waiting and over the past week or so, I have started watching it.

I'm really enjoying it I have to say. I thought i would, based on the game demo I played.

so far i have just passed the zabuza story. that was very heart wrenching stuff. I was so shocked.

I have familiar with a couple of characters, it's hard not to see some things about such a popular show.

I already knew that some important character were Sakura and Sasuke, so I was very surprised when he got killed!

this was a great situation because i had no idea why he was an important character and for all I knew, this could have been the end of him. it could have been like risker in guyver, a major character who everyone loved but went out early. so when he died, i was genuinely shocked. of course, somewhere along the line, I remembered how haku had 'killed' zabuza...

I then remembered how haku was not trying to kill them, so i suspected that he may have just done the same thing to somehow provoke naruto or to help zabuza achieve his objective.

i thought zabuza with his flappy arms, and the kunai in his mouth, seemed a bit comical but only slightly and the situation and how it all happened, sort of negated the comedy and turned it into an immensely cool scene. the way he burst through them all and killed a lot and totally slaughtered gatou was totally awesome.

well I just got caught up in it again, I really enjoy it up to now.

so i have all the series but not all of it. i saw on a website that there were a lot of filler episodes so what i did was to take out the fillers.

I was just thinking the other day, maybe i can actually get the fillers, because i like to watch the characters and the fillers will give me more to watch. what do you think about that? see, i was wondering, if i am fully aware that they are fillers, will they still be entertaining? or are they just really boring and pointless?

also, is there a different series after episode 220?

I have 220 and i have heard of shippuuden, is that different? or is that included in the episodes that i have?

Shippuden is Naruto Season 2 basically. I used to watch the beginning episodes but I lost interest after the Return of Itachi arc. Dunno why. But I continued to read the plot of the anime/manga via Naruto Wikia.

Oh, the Zabuza arc of Naruto is great. The Kunai in the mouth bit really is powerful and it's been a while, but I remember it being pretty beautifully animated. Other episodes with amazing animation are 133 and 30 I think? The drawing styles are a lot simpler, but I suppose the animation makes up for it.

I think I read they handed it off to a Korean group of animators or something. No idea if there's any truth to it, but certainly those episodes are entertaining to watch, just for the quality of animation.

And Naruto and fillers is a mess.

don't bother with the fillers, they are actually painful to watch. The only one worth watching is episode 101, it's pretty funny but is a single episode story. Episodes 140-220 is just filler after filler. the end of 139 and the last half of 220 follow the manga. Episode 220 is half filler, half canon. 220 is the end of the "original" Naruto (Think of it like Dragon Ball and DBZ. Shippuuden is "Naruto Z"). Then you'll have to start watching from Shippuuden episode 1.

But it got pretty drenn when whoever it is directing the Shippuuden anime thought it would be a good idea to re arrange events in the manga and mix them in with filler plots as well, making you miss canon sections if you try to skip the filler episodes. (maybe after going through so many episodes of filler towards the end of Naruto before I gave up makes me harsh, but i really smegging hate filler). I think it was around episode 55 or something I stopped watching Shippuuden because it was just too much bullshit.

The manga...

well it's interesting that's for sure. I don't know if i just personally feel Naruto has run it's course but it's not doing it anymore. certain plots and backstories are so damn convoluted you just accept the nonsense that their talking about in hopes that they will finally advance the story.

Naruto was pretty damn awesome at the beginning, and remained awesome for a long time but I think Kishimoto needs to stop before he runs himself further into the ground.

i'm going to go watch episode 133 because goddamn that episode is so good. i want anyone who starts watching naruto to get up to that point so they can see the peak of the series. have fun man!

edit: oh god i wrote so much

Shippuden is actually the time jump, and we see the group years after the last incident with Naruto and Sasuke. Storywise, it shows a lot of conspiracy theories, which I kinda enjoyed. But animation wise, I did not enjoy it, because the animation just turned dragonball. They are prolonging one episode to the point of being irritating. Of course this is my opinion. But for me, after watching a few episodes of Shippuden, I stopped watching and read the manga instead.

ok well i'm safe watching all the ones i have then and i guess it is good idea to remain with all the eps i have and not get the fillers.

I did look at a good website which pretty much said what you said bbdude.

I wonder if i will even bother with shippuden.

I can't be bothered reading manga to be honest so if the anime is so bad, then it's a good idea to avoid it.

well i'm giving it a break after the initial arc. I'll watch some drama for now and go back to naruto in a couple of days.

Ryuki, if you have not yet seen the last story arc of Naruto (prior to Shippuden), you might get pissed by how the show was directed. As the story arc involves a chase, which was panned out into several episodes, literally prolonging the arc. What could have been finished in a few episodes was stretched to cover a seasons worth of episodes. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Ooops. Sorry, good thing I was vague, and hopefully didn't reveal anything significant. But yeah, once you reach that arc, your mind might change on the direction of the series. Anyway, while you're still in that early episodes, enjoy them, as those are the episodes that got me hooked. Perhaps you might want to discuss the progression of the episodes you have seen? I know I've been wanting to talk to anyone when I was watching those episodes.

hmm, though I watch the anime of Shippuuden. I Would suggest you skip it. Stick to the manga, the manga tends to be awesome, while the Shippuuden TV version tends to have flash backs of flashbacks of the same flashthey had in that same episode...just to prolong it, and I'm not even counting the flashbacks they have to the episode or two they had before it. It seems, 2 minutes are wasted looking blankly at a character and talking slow, and others are flashbacks. By the time you are done, you've wasted maybe 4 hours of your life watching what you could of gotten off the manga in less then 5 minutes. And that's without the long fight scenes! O_oAs for the classic Naruto Series, pretty awesome. From begging to pre filler, it's one of the best anime's around. It has some of the most memorable villians and gags out there. You'll be very pleased once you see Jiraiya and Shikimaru on screen get flashed out, then there is no turning back.

Yeah, Ryuki, there are a lot of characters to look forward to. I'd love to tell you about an awesome fight scene, but I will be giving a huge spoiler so I'll just wait until you reach it. Just so you know, it involves Orochimaru and a few others.

ha, i'm sure that's the one fight everyone who begins watching the series hopes to see because it's been keeping you wondering since the beginning of the series.

orochimaru?

i don't remember. do i even know who that is?

perhaps i am a bit hazy about the first episode. I watched the first ep as soon as i obtained it and then there was a gap.

so maybe i'll watch that again just to refresh my memory.

so anyhow, i got to ep 21 by now. i watched the introduction of new character, gaara, and now they are going to have an exam.

i always thought gaara was a good guy but it's looking like he is not.

Hey y'all. I thought id have a?look whats going on and saw ryuki's post on naruto. Im sure i remember him posting about naruto a while back so good to see he has started to watch it!!

I just wanted to say that i freakin love naruto as a show. You wont know who orochimaru is for a while. If youre only at ep 21then youve got so much dopeness to watch! if you thought so far was good you aint seen nothing yet. As for filler im gonna go against the grain and say watch it if you can be bothered and dont mind not getting to the main story arcs so fast. Because i got into it slightly late i had the option of just blitzing the filler when it came up. granted there is some duff stuff but some of it really isnt that bad. You'll find that you end up watching episode after episode of the main arc anyway because its so friggin addictive- cause its freakin awesome! But i try and pace myself cause i dont want it to be over :) though there was a certain arc that i just couldnt stop watching! i love the creator for naruto but i cant forgive him for the end of that one :( still cool though, anyway...

I think people who watch it every week hate the filler because it does slow the whole process of getting through the main arcs and i think many read the manga aswell so they want to see what theyve read animated. I dont do either of these. I have like 40 episodes in hand of shippuden and dont bother with the manga. I hate knowing whats going to happen in something im going to watch. I even try to not watch trailers or previews

of films i want to see so the experience is ffffresh! i'd happily read the manga after or if there was no anime but given a choice of anime or manga id always go for anime in the case of something like naruto.

Dont forget the movies aswell - yes they're dope. Make sure you find out roughly when to watch them, they dont really fit into the whole scheme but need to be watched in certain places so not to be too out of synch.

Enjoy it dude!

well i really like some of the different scenarios, when we see naruto just fooling around with konohamaru and the others. so that's why i thought i might like the fillers.

the type of filler i really hate is the type of filler that has a really pointless story as an excuse to do flashbacks.

I hate recap fillers. but if the producers have taken the time to write the episode and do good character interaction and have an entertaining one-off story that might not be related to the main story arc, that's ok. if it is giving me more enjoyment of the characters then i think it is good. actually, I wouldn't strictly consider that 'filler' rather i would consider it additional material. a filler is something to fill in the gap when you have to have a certain length of series. when you commission around a hundred episodes, I don't think you can really consider that filler.

Yeah good semantics ryuki. Yes i think we can all agree that pointless flashbacks do suck . Most of it as far as im aware is additional material which is all good by me. Like i said its tolerable. I will admit that as far as i can rememer the most frustrating momentum breaking additional material is that towards the end of naruto as you are just wanting to know what is gonna happen! ( but bare in mind at that time i had no idea shippuden would be arising to give us more anyway)

all good things come to those who wait :)

ah, i agree with you here. i liked those episodes and scenes between arcs when things were at rest, i remember dragon ball had something very similar. i loved it.

but the fillers are mostly just made up arcs with made up characters that really were only there to stop the anime from catching up with the manga.

if you like one-off episodes of filler, then download episode 101. that one is pretty funny. i think 100 is recap filler, but has some good character interaction between two characters who you'll meet in the next few episodes you watch.

ok , I might see if i can get the episode 101.

it's hard to make up my mind if i want to get those fillers then.

if they are made up arcs with made up characters, does that make it bad?

if I'm not a manga purist then would it make much difference?

no ;)

im thinking of this in a dragonball way. I enjoyed dragonball & z but watching it through again and again can get tedious with that amount of filler that just really really prolongs and frustrates -that is true ball ache filler thats why im glad theyve done db kai. I dont see all additional stuff like that in naruto being so bad as it is entertaining ,maybe not to the degree of the main arcs but is still ok.

Id watch it all and if u ever watch it again make your own naruto 'kai' and leave it out!

The fact youre even considering it shows you wont mind it - go on you know you want to ;)

thus ends my initiative to get ryuki to watch naruto filler/aditional material!

fair points. perhaps i dislike it so much because i read the manga and really wanted to see what i had read animated.

so i may have been impatient with it.

i imagine someone who never read the manga would have a radically different view, and probably wouldn't even realise how much filler the show has.

if you haven't read the manga, you probably won't mind until the filler leading up to the end of the series, where you are practically fed arc after arc (and if i remember right, mostly lasting only around 7 episodes).

interesting side note, I got the game today for my new xbox 360, "Naruto rise of the ninja".

it seems like this game is adapted right from the anime with some bits cut out and other bits added in.

interesting. but what i noticed mostly is that they use the american voices!

that is really weird. very forced in places.

well just thought i would throw some advice in here and see if it could help, the stuff based on the manga is epic and if you thought that highly of the zabuza arc (i did as well) i cant see you not enjoying the rest of the series minus the fillers, and in my opinion shippuden takes it to another level (though you will find debate on that, its just a matter of opinion) you can try wikipedia to see which episode numbers are filler and which are not (usually when you look at it by season information they mention which episodes are fillers or if the entire arc was filler) most of naruto 1-135 is is manga based, after that to 220 it is filler (i only found one filler storyline interesting and that would be the last one involving gaara, you will see him soon if you keep up) then when shippuden starts, the first 55 episode or so (not exactly sure) are manga based then it goes on and off because they want to let the manga progress a little further before they get any closer to it, so again the best way to check which episodes are which in my experience would be wikipedia (be careful of spoilers though) bottom line, if you like naruto you have to give shippuden a try when you get to that point even if it can be annoying trying to avoid fillers (and yes some of them are that bad), as far as any interest in the fillers go what i told you were my opinions only, the fillers for the most part until 220 are high on comedy and while i enjoy the humor in the main naruto story line some of the fillers comedy just takes away so much of the series feel(there are a few exceptions though) as far as shippuden fillers go you do not have that problem really the shippuden fillers are much more action based and try to live up to the more serious tone that shippuden takes on (my opinion again) so best of luck and no matter what you decide and end up doing i think that you will at least be hooked enough to make it through some of those awful fillers to continue to watch and follow the show until it ends (or at least visit it again one day)

so i just watched 'eppisode 27'.

then i went on to episode 28 to find it is the same episode.

what is going on, i thinking... so i try to figure out why they are the same and i find out that somehow, some stupid person has labelled episode 28 as episode 27 and i have 2 of them.

so i actually missed that episode.

what a bummer.

well that snake guy is so creepy.

he scares me.
