Wow long time no see Mecha! I cancelled my amazon order last week because it said it was coming on the 24th or something. i just ordered from HMV and it should be arriving today now. would advise you to do the same if you're desperate to receive it quickly as it looks like it isn't even available on amazon anymore(!)

Pre-ordered on Amazon and release has come and gone, hasn't arrived, no updates what so ever... no idea what's going on

This is probably the moment I've dreaded most but also it's just good to know that he's looking after himself and not pushing it. Reading that, yeah I'd rather he focused on enjoying life and not pushing it. May his days be enjoyable and thanks for the memories!

It's heartbreaking knowing the creator of something I've loved for a long time is suffering like this. I'm really sorry this has happened to him. Totally understandable why he couldn't continue. I hope the rest of his days are as comfortable as possible.

Yeah I've also seen some of the japanese fans' confusion (upset?) by the way its been announced. A small few are choosing to not believe it until an official announcement happens via japanese channels... I'd like him to pass it on to someone else but I also feel like if he was confident he could find someone he would have done so at some point in the last 10 years. On another note, because the topic of his assistants has been so pertinent to the hiatus and to this revelation, here's a picture of him with his assistants from 1987: "A scene from the workspace where assistants and staff are all mixed together. Surprisingly, the two main assistants are girls." Taken from Shonen Captain Jr Vol. 2 which has a few pages of behind the scenes of his early guyver days. i picked this up some time ago. that's takaya in the back with the white cloth on his head.

So apparently, Japanese fans also only found out about this via the Blue-ray release? Or so I heard. This is sad indeed. I wish him good health and I do hope he does select a successor to finish it. It's not unheard of for an author handing over the reins to someone else to continue the story. Take Berserk for example, after Miura's passing, the manga was able to continue by his close friend who he told how the manga would end.

This is very sad news in terms of getting it finally in writing. But it's not unexpected; it's been 10 years since any new Guyver content, and it stopped at a point that never made sense (2 issues after a chapter release). That was never a good thing, as he deeply cared about his story, planned long-term arcs and reveals... a person like that would never stop where he did without it being without a choice. I'll always love what he did. But hopefully, finally getting a public status of what is happening with him might someday lead to Guyver getting moved into new hands by someone Kadokawa Shoten selects.

I read a review for the blu-ray a little while back that made mention to him "not taking up the pen again" so am surprised it took so long for anyone else to post this. I'm obviously really sad but i'm sure Takaya himself is even moreso that these were the circumstances that it ended on. Maybe the advert for a new assistant wasn't because anyone died but because he just needed an additional pair of hands to help out towards the end.

Apparently it is in one of the special features on the new Dark Hero Bluray.

Nice list. I forgot that Skeleton Knight has a second season that just came out. Thanks for reminding me. It was out of my radar because I follow the Light Novel and they have not released a new volume for a long time. I wasn't aware the old country bumpkin began as a light novel. How far along is it? Is it worth the read? I'm running out of Light Novels to read and haven't found anything exciting to read since I finished Mushoku Tensei. I'm also stoked that the latest episodes of the exiled heavy knight seems to have toned down the recaps a bit. Hoping this continues for the rest of the remaining episodes. But then that means they would easily catch up with the manga, which I'm now reading because of the anime.

I still find the web series Street Fighter Assassin's Fist to be the gold Standard. For me this new movie is still somewhat goofy, but definitely leagues better than the disaster of a movie starring Van Damme.

I started the One Piece anime way back when, and then moved to the manga and never looked back. The filler episodes and arcs the anime adds always rubs me the wrong way. Was the same with Bleach and Naruto back in the day. Nowadays series can get away with not having to be on every week and can take tine off if need be.

I've been keeping up with a couple series... But there have been so many series come out that I have been reading the manga... And the Anime version does a piss poor job of it. The one I am looking forward to is coming next Month: PSYREN. Read that manga thanks to NA release of Shonen Jump. 19 years after it started and 16 years after it ended, they are making an anime of it. I REALLY hope they don't screw it up. Since there is no light novel version or anything, it is based on the manga, so hopefully it will be what I want it to be. But as for what I am watching right now... Oddly, all of these were manga I started reading that have now been turned into anime. Some for the better, and some not. There are a few more series I had been reading the comics of at one point... But the Anime's quality was not nearly good enough, so I am not ruining my thoughts of the series with watching the trash animation. Tensei ****ara Slime Datta Ken 4th Season / That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season - The anime has caught up with the manga again, but of course, as mentioned, it is based on light novels so there is more to work off of... But the Anime has largely been following the aesthetic of the manga. One of those that has been doing a good job of it. I never read the novels, so any changes doesn't bother me much. Gaikotsu Kishi-sama, Tadaima Isekai e Odekakechuu / Skeleton Knight in Another World Season - Another fun isekai fantasy story. Can be a dime a dozen, but this one has some fun characters and a decent enough premise that also skips some of the worst isekai tropes. The main character is so OP... and yet not at the same time, in some funny ways. Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru / From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman - This one has been following the light novels a bit more than the manga, but not as bad as some. Really good action. They do take the "Sword master" fact of the title pretty seriously. Tsuihou sareta Tensei Juukishi wa Game Chishiki de Musou suru / The Exiled Heavy Knight Knows How to Game the System - This one has been doing a good job of following the manga overall, and has decent production values. Another Isekai with some good ideas on how things are handled. Ryoumin 0-nin Start no Henkyou Ryoushu-sama / The Frontier Lord Begins with Zero Subjects - Another manga I started reading a while back. Been done pretty well. It's a fun little wholesome series.
