Hope you're doing well too man! Watched my copy yesterday and while I was pretty worried about the fact it was an AI upscale I have to say the majority of the film does look good. the quality of a few shots is inconsistent and faces look weird at times (Crane and Cori suffer the worst) but the suits look great every shot they're in, which is where the real meat of the film lies. I feel like it was a bit misleading to say that the enhanced version had 'new special effects' though. as far as i could tell the only new special effect was the black smoke i pointed out in my earlier post. i also take back what i said about the cover art, its grown on me and the art cards inside are very nice. the reverse artwork of the guyver/guyver zoanoid being used for the discs is unfortunate though. i stand by my opinion that it's unfortunate that it made its way onto the release at all. anyway the extras are also lots of fun. some great BTS photos and artwork on show. Very funny that the Steve Wang interview features a spread from the Advocacy scanlations when he's discussing the manga. wonder how that ended up there!

Guyver is something that has been with me for most of my life, and I hope Takaya gets to live out the rest of his life as happy as can be. Good to see some old names still around here. I had to reactivate my account when I heard the news.

Wow long time no see Mecha! I cancelled my amazon order last week because it said it was coming on the 24th or something. i just ordered from HMV and it should be arriving today now. would advise you to do the same if you're desperate to receive it quickly as it looks like it isn't even available on amazon anymore(!)

Pre-ordered on Amazon and release has come and gone, hasn't arrived, no updates what so ever... no idea what's going on

This is probably the moment I've dreaded most but also it's just good to know that he's looking after himself and not pushing it. Reading that, yeah I'd rather he focused on enjoying life and not pushing it. May his days be enjoyable and thanks for the memories!

It's heartbreaking knowing the creator of something I've loved for a long time is suffering like this. I'm really sorry this has happened to him. Totally understandable why he couldn't continue. I hope the rest of his days are as comfortable as possible.

Yeah I've also seen some of the japanese fans' confusion (upset?) by the way its been announced. A small few are choosing to not believe it until an official announcement happens via japanese channels... I'd like him to pass it on to someone else but I also feel like if he was confident he could find someone he would have done so at some point in the last 10 years. On another note, because the topic of his assistants has been so pertinent to the hiatus and to this revelation, here's a picture of him with his assistants from 1987: "A scene from the workspace where assistants and staff are all mixed together. Surprisingly, the two main assistants are girls." Taken from Shonen Captain Jr Vol. 2 which has a few pages of behind the scenes of his early guyver days. i picked this up some time ago. that's takaya in the back with the white cloth on his head.

So apparently, Japanese fans also only found out about this via the Blue-ray release? Or so I heard. This is sad indeed. I wish him good health and I do hope he does select a successor to finish it. It's not unheard of for an author handing over the reins to someone else to continue the story. Take Berserk for example, after Miura's passing, the manga was able to continue by his close friend who he told how the manga would end.

This is very sad news in terms of getting it finally in writing. But it's not unexpected; it's been 10 years since any new Guyver content, and it stopped at a point that never made sense (2 issues after a chapter release). That was never a good thing, as he deeply cared about his story, planned long-term arcs and reveals... a person like that would never stop where he did without it being without a choice. I'll always love what he did. But hopefully, finally getting a public status of what is happening with him might someday lead to Guyver getting moved into new hands by someone Kadokawa Shoten selects.

I read a review for the blu-ray a little while back that made mention to him "not taking up the pen again" so am surprised it took so long for anyone else to post this. I'm obviously really sad but i'm sure Takaya himself is even moreso that these were the circumstances that it ended on. Maybe the advert for a new assistant wasn't because anyone died but because he just needed an additional pair of hands to help out towards the end.

Apparently it is in one of the special features on the new Dark Hero Bluray.

Nice list. I forgot that Skeleton Knight has a second season that just came out. Thanks for reminding me. It was out of my radar because I follow the Light Novel and they have not released a new volume for a long time. I wasn't aware the old country bumpkin began as a light novel. How far along is it? Is it worth the read? I'm running out of Light Novels to read and haven't found anything exciting to read since I finished Mushoku Tensei. I'm also stoked that the latest episodes of the exiled heavy knight seems to have toned down the recaps a bit. Hoping this continues for the rest of the remaining episodes. But then that means they would easily catch up with the manga, which I'm now reading because of the anime.

I still find the web series Street Fighter Assassin's Fist to be the gold Standard. For me this new movie is still somewhat goofy, but definitely leagues better than the disaster of a movie starring Van Damme.
