Hey all, I've been working hard on my game for about 6 months now and I'm almost ready for beta. things are going nicely and I'd like to find a few more play testers. I already have my best friend and my brother, I just need a few more. anyone who could help would need to record their gameplay from the very first moment. this is because I need to see what people do. I need to see how people approach it so I know what I need to pay attention to. here is a couple images. please just reply here if you are interested in helping! it'll be a windows exe file so you'll need to be running windows. I'd also like to know your specs so I can assess game performance. Also, I would be interested in what kind of games you normally play.

you learn a language better when you HAVE to learn it. best way to learn is to go live in tokyo. failing that, rosetta stone is very good. also, listen to podcasts. you'll start to pick up patterns and learn to distinguish between the different sounds. http://www.tbsradio.jp/pod/

I am a woman. yes. I'll look at those other videos then. should be interesting.

I found this to be a good balanced read. I do believe Rey is a mary sue in the same way Luke and Anikin are also Mary sue. http://www.vox.com/2015/12/28/10672628/star-wars-force-awakens-rey-mary-sue

side note, I can't even watch more than a minute of that guy. I mean the way he felt he had to point out that Rey being good with mechanics is 'totally fine'. right... I see, so girls being good at mechanics is plausible then? because girls can't be good at anything? they must be a subspecies or something yeah? this is the kind of crap we're talking about here. the whole of society stinks with it. I realised the other day, I was surprised when a romantic interest of mine was better than me at programming. I'm pretty good at it, but she is better. she does it as a hobby. I think that's pretty awesome, but why should I be surprised? truth is, I shouldn't. women are as capable as men at most stuff and men are as capable as women at most stuff. let women be builders and let men be nurses. let Rey be freaking awesome and let's not make a fuss about it because all it is, is a awesome character telling a story. you know what would be even better? if she wasn't born to ANY of the force users we are already aware of. if she was born to totally normal people. because then there would be no excuse. whether it was a girl or a boy, this character became awesome just-because. just because a normal person like you or I, can be exceptional. it's not about female empowerment (why is that seen as a negative thing anyway? talk about misogyny???) or about male empowerment (fin was pretty damn good at fighting that electric mace wielding guy even though he was a total rookie, sanitation guy) it's about making normal people feel empowered. the message behind the movie... doesn't matter who you are, you can be a racial minority, you can be a girl (god forbid!) and you can still be awesome! it really hurts me that this kind of message is seen as a bad thing or political agenda? bottom line... what is the political agenda? that women can be awesome? well I guess I should just shoot myself now if that is a crime.

it really doesn't matter if you like ripley or whole slews of other female characters. the very fact that you say that they are doing it in a way that is OK but Rey's way of being confident is not ok, that is misogynist. Rey being self empowered is a political message? so any woman who feels self empowered is in the wrong? is pushing a political message. I'm sorry but that is the very essence of misogyny. she's entitled? why shouldn't she be entitled? and you can't say you're not being misogynist because someone else is doing it worse. it doesn't negate the way your words come across. why do you keep saying I want you to be misogynist. that's absurd. why would I want that? I want the opposite of that. I'm asking you repeatedly to give us some evidence. you said that abrams said specifically that star wars 7 is all about girl power. well, get me the quote. it's really very very simple isn't it? the fact you've given nothing of substance means that you're arguing from your own imagined space and using other misogynist's imagined space as fuel for your argument. let's just use Ripley as an example. she was an ok strong feminist heroine right? one of the defining scenes in alien has her in her skimpy underwear scared for her life and eventually manages to press a button to flush the creature out into space. really freaking impressive. let's also point out alien resurrection. no political agenda there? let's just forget about the part where ripleys most intimate parts, her DNA is manipulated and abused throughout the film, and what about winona ryders character? a glorified escaped slave girl? and although ripley was shown to be very strong in this, they say this is only because of the alien DNA mixed with hers. now I don't normally think about these things and I never really picked up on these things in the alien films, I just watched and enjoyed them. but how about you actually give us something of substance like I just did? seriously, I find myself thinking, maybe there wouldn't have been an issue if the scene where kylo ren interrogated her, she was in her underwear...

don't you see how it's offensive to us that you keep saying it's blatantly obvious. you are pretty much suggesting we are stupid because we just don't see ANY propaganda. you haven't already told me. you keep saying that there are obvious messages, you keep referencing these clear political messages, but you have not ONCE actually explained what these messages are and where they are. an obvious message would be something like rey looking at the screen and saying "I am gonna beat this guy because I'm a feminist!" that is an obvious message. there are no obvious messages. that article explained that JJ Abrams wanted to make the films have a wide appeal. that's just doing his job. not a political statement. you're saying that because rey apparently became so good without any training (DESPITE the fact that we all know the force is a mysterious and unpredictable thing) it is OBVIOUSLY a political message. that's just post hoc ergo propter hoc. it's not a valid argument. you really need to start qualifying your assertions because you are not giving us anything here. it's still coming across misogynist.
-
Ffs, what messages????
-
judging from that article, it seems the makers were vying for equality and broadening the appeal. some people hailed Rey as a feminist icon, but that's down to those particular fans, not the film makers. do you really view equality as offensive? JJ Abrams says quite clearly he is trying to broaden the appeal. so girls can enjoy the movie as well as boys. so girls can feel strong and powerful too. are you really offended by that?
-
ok, I think I see what you're saying. you're saying if it was a male character then it would be a political message by MRA? ok so you seem to be drawing from something here. I assume you have evidence that this was written with a political agenda? I mean a few of us now have brought attention to the many reasons why she was able to fight in the way that she did. and yet you keep brow beating with this political agenda thing. you're just going to have to qualify it because evidently, to us, it seems completely baseless. you wrote an article about this MRA and feminist. so It seems that you spend a lot of time researching these issues. are you sure you're not just seeing issues where there aren't any?
-
so if it was a male, you would still feel this way? I just don't see your logic. so she is better than him without training. so what? big whoop? it just means that this character is badass. the mere fact that she is a girl, makes you angry. why? if it was a male character who beat him without training, what would be your complaint? who would you be blaming? masculists? or would that somehow be feminists fault as well? if your point is that it is implausible and bad writing, then just leave it at that. why bring in some hate campaign? that is why it is misogynist. because you're making it about her gender., because if a man does something implausible, it's just bad writing, but if a girl does it, it's a political ploy.
-
what is this so called political agenda then? because you mentioned feminist before. that kinda presupposes a bias towards gender. so if you're not talking about gender, then let's forget about feminism, and figure out what you truly have a problem with. what is the issue? if it's feminism then it's completely about gender and my counter points stand as 100% relevant.
-
child of palpatine??? wow!!! very intriguing!!! palpatine was incredibly powerful force user, far more powerful than any force user of the time. I think I heard that right.
-
so when a girl does it, it's not ok, but when a guy does it, it's fine? anakin flew into space with no training, and took out the droid ship. he had never sat in a naboo starfighter in his life. you saw what happened to all the other starfighters. and luke, with no official training, took out the death star. but I guess this is ok because they are men. Rey had trained plenty with her bo. she had looked after herself her whole life on a tough planet and defended herself with some clear combat skills. why can't she hold her own against kylo ren? because she's a girl, right? if it was a guy in that position you wouldn't have batted an eyelid. because that is what movies do. they take characters and make them do amazing things.
-
actually, I find that comment to be misogynist. truth is, we don't need men in that movie's context. we should have a relatively equal balance, sure, but we don't need men. not unless we want to see children being born. women are just as capable of getting drenn done.

Prometheus 2 - “Alien: Paradise Lost!
Jess♥ replied to Shin Mefilas's topic in General 'whatever'.
I would have to watch aliens in a different light. it is a very different type of movie. I am sure it is an excellent film in many ways. but i feel like it is more of an action film and I'm not so much a fan of action. tried watching the expendables, got bored. -
I'm not gonna write the spoilers right here. because you might have clicked by accident. I watched it on 17th december, opening day!!! I was determined not to get spoilers because this is important to me. These past few months I've been slowly evolving into a star wars junkie. This film does not disappoint me. I want to say I really like the episodes 1 2 and 3. I also enjoy episodes 4 5 and 6 but not as much. this doesn't mean this new film was more like eps 1 2 and 3, but I think it just has something for everyone. I thought there was a great potential for this film to be a let-down (especially after jj abrans star trek) but I have now decided to forgive abrams and now I will consider him my pal. was totally crying at a few points in this, mostly from exhilaration, also some pretty breath taking stuff for me personally. so easy for there to be lots of clichés in the film but I think they were effectively avoided. I can't say this is my favourite because i've only just seen it. but I plan to watch it again in january ( meerkat movies!! XD )

I was going to avoid the entire internet and the entire outside world. :- http://how-i-met-your-mother.wikia.com/wiki/Sensory_Deprivator_5000 but then I decided that was unrealistic so I went to watch it today.

or we could just realise that ridley scott created it and only the films he makes are canon. my own personal opinion., -

I can respect your view but at the same time I have to keep in mind where they were going with the extra movies. those alien vs predator movies were absolutely awful. Even if I didn't like the idea of making an origin story, truth is it was ridley scott the original creator of the franchise and prometheus was actually a decent movie. if we are going to get more movies in this franchise, I am so glad they won't be continuations of AvP. -

I did really like alien 3. it had teh same sense of isolation and hopelessness as the original. I always hated aliens. cameron turned it into an action movie. that's not alien for me. I think the alien is scary no matter what. seeing the origins in prometheus didn't make it less scary, it makes it more scary because it kinda makes me feel vulnerable in my own being. not due to external monsters, but the potential within . those things that can get inside our bodies to the cellular level. it's no longer just a fear of a predator, but also a fear of disease. also, I know almost exactly what a nuclear warhead is, I know what it does, how it is made, and more or less who makes it. and I know why. is it scary? yes, it's one of the most scary things I can think of. i think not knowing about something gives a sense of constant danger, something we can grow accustomed to. constant dread will eventually subside into a hyper awareness and eventually a comfort with hte idea of danger. it's the existence of safety that makes the danger more stark. when we know the origin of something, when we know that there are safe places in the universe, we know the danger ever more acutely. -
love those pictures! that is so cool.
