H222G981 Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 In your opinion, should countries be allowed to have nuclear weapons? In my opinion....no country including the US should have a right to Nuclear Weaponry. I don't think anyone should have nuclear weapons. Reason being...nuclear weapons are toxic, its not good for us or the Earth seeing as Radiation destroys and poisons everything. Look at what is going on with Chernobyl. They had a meltdown almost 30 years ago.... and the fallout is still there. Radiation doesn't dissipate. It stays. The fallout is still going on for the next 20-30,000 + years according to documentaries and other studies stated by scientists. So I think all nukes need to be disposed. Its not good. I don't see why people think they should have access to them. Even North Korea and Iran have no business experimenting with them. 1 Quote
Guyver1 Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Agreed. I feel it is too much power for such small minded beings to wield. Quote
Matt Bellamy Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 It's true that currently, they serve one, and only one purpose: Mutual Assured Destruction. All the big countries know, that if one launched any against each other, the other would surely launch back. This keeps all sides at bay for the most part, with only small incursions. The biggest problems are the smaller, more radical countries who threaten to build and use them. They don't realize what launching a Nuke could do to themselves. The most simple minded solution, is of course, get rid of all the Nuclear missiles. Which sounds great, except when you realize that the technology still exists. Radicals will still find a way to try and make them... Even if their payload is only WW2 levels, the technology still exists. Granted, the response to a nuclear attack doesn't necessarily need one in kind, but Governments want that security, especially when no one would trust that ALL nukes were destroyed in every country. I mean, say the United States just up and declared that they have dismantled all their nukes, and have asked the rest of the world to do so. No other country would ever do so. The US would be seen as weak, and any military excursion they might attempt, now has the looming threat of being bombed by a nuclear warhead, and they would have nothing comparable to counter the threat with. The moral high ground does not matter in a Nuclear war... Where only one side has them. And while it may be downright vicious and evil to use them on a powerless nation... The victor is the one that gets to write the history books. In a century or two, through propaganda and controlling the news, the "evil" acts of the victor would be more considered more "Heroic" than "Evil". Nuclear weapons are now unfortunately, one of those "Necessary Evils" of the world. It would be nice to not have them, but there is no way they are going anywhere. Quote
Salkafar Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 It's not an issue, I am afraid. Nobody's gonna be the first to unilaterally do away with their nuclear weapons. Quote
