April 16, 201510 yr New thread for a new trailer! No real plot points yet, but a whole lot of new imagery as well below:
April 17, 201510 yr yoda said there was always 2 sith, but there was nothing to say there couldn't be a non-sith training in the force. also, I am not sure if it meant there are always at least 2 or only 2.
April 17, 201510 yr ok, from wikipedia - The Banite Sith, as depicted in the Original trilogy and Prequel trilogy, was founded by Darth Bane; it lasted 1000 years BBY and promptly ended with the death of Palpatine. During this dynasty there existed only two at a time: a master and an apprentice.
April 18, 201510 yr i think it was more of a statement in meaning that if there's an apprentice, then there will also be a master. there could always be more than just two sith. remember, count dooku also was darth sedious's apprentice, so there was actually three in the story to begin with. even though we didn't see dooku until episode 2 i think. so this new sith(maybe) in the new movie, episode 7, could either be an apprentice that dooku took on before he was killed in episode3, or was a new apprentice of sidious, since the emperor skipped appearances in episodes 4&5 and reappeared in episode6, would be a great way to intruduce when a new apprentice was being trained.

Most of this is from the reading the Darth Bane trilogy, but obviously has been wiped out by Disney. The "Rule of Two" basically only applies to the most powerful Sith. The rule of two from Darth Bane (and technically from Revan) says: "Two there should be; no more, no less. One to embody power, the other to crave it." The interpretation is pretty vague, as there are always going to be people studying the ways of the Darkside. Whether intentionally or not. Is it up to the current "Master and Apprentice" to hunt them down? Most likely yes. But in the 30 years without a Master AND Apprentice, it's believable for someone new to have arisen, found a sith holocron etc... As well, it was not uncommon for both the Master and Apprentice to start looking for candidates instead of just wiping them out. In the traditional Rule of Two, if the Master is starting to feel his Apprentice is lacking, they might attempt to find another. This could be bad for the Sith as by the time the Apprentice is ready to cut down their master, they might be weakened, thus a weaker apprentice taking over, which could hurt their positions. As well, if the Apprentice find their own apprentice, and they strike down the master... The new Master would weaken the Sith by not being able to overcome the trial themselves. Much like the old sith Emperor, if I remember correctly, Palpatine/Sidious has been able to extended his life span, and has become so much more powerful in the force, that even someone considered a "Master" would have a very hard time ever trying to defeat him one on one. Which is one of the big reasons why Vader wanted Luke to join him. Together, they might have been able to take Palpatine/Sidious allowing Vader to become the Master finally. And you notice how Palpatine was goading Luke into striking down Vader and becoming the new Sith Apprentice. palpatine doesn't care if Vader gets struck down, only that someone more powerful would replace him. It's a tricky situation for sure. As for Dooku, officially, he is a fallen Jedi who only became Sidious's apprentice AFTER Darth Maul died (unknown if his surviving is currently canon). So there was still only 2 at once. Though the clone wars cartoons gave him a "protegee" Dark jedi, but she never actually became his apprentice and was never given a Darth title. The big question... is Kylo Ren the Master, or the Apprentice...? (or hell, do they even know about the Rule of 2?)
April 19, 201510 yr You now its funny but I'm not as excited as I should be for this movie. I have really drifted away from Star Wars as I've gotten older. I like it for the most part however I am worried about them staying too close to original trilogy and over relying on themes and styles from them. I'm not saying they wont work, I just worry that it will stop the film from having its own flavor, if you get my meaning.
April 20, 201510 yr I just worry that it will stop the film from having its own flavor, if you get my meaning. i'm not worried, knowing jj's films, i expect plenty of flavour and plenty of action with a continuous flow to it, which he does so well when he has 100% control.
April 29, 201510 yr So did some of the Sith clans work for Darth Vader and the Emperor? Meaning the Sith as a whole had full control of the Empire?
May 1, 201510 yr I read some star wars history. it seems that in hte long past, some dark jedi went to a planet that had a race of people called the sith. these dark jedi taught the sith their ways, as the sith had a natural affinity for the force. These dark jedi were the lords of the sith. this resulted in lots of war, the sith were a formidable force but eventually they were destroyed due to infighting. The infighting was pretty bad because the sith were also more naturally aligned with hte dark side. due to all of this, one particular lord of the sith made teh decision that there should be only two so that infighting would not happen. there would only ever be a master and apprentice and the apprentice would become the master when the master had died. this would end the infighting.all of this was a very very long time ago, before darth sideous eventually succeeded in creating teh empire. I think hte sith lord who created the rule of two was called darth bane.
