H222G981 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 (edited) I was shocked to find this out. Although some of you Marvel guru's may not be. I knew Black Widow was an assassin, sort of knew her as a neutral character but the way she was portrayed in The Avengers movie, she was portrayed as a hero. I will admit that I'm no expert. But I never knew her to kill kids. This must be the sort of Red in her ledger that Loki was referring to. Also from what I've been brushing up on. There has been a ton left out of the Marvel films. There's a lot of violence that they don't show that goes with the stories. Hypothetically, having a villain murder the family of a hero isn’t that strange for a comic book story, especially when you consider the origin of one of Marvel’s most famous characters, the Punisher. But there’s something in the way Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch go about murdering the wife and children of Clint Barton, aka, Hawkeye, in Ultimates 2 #7 that is incredibly unsettling and will likely never find its way into an Avengers movie, even if at some point Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow becomes a villain. In Ultimates 2, the team learns that someone has betrayed the group from the inside. The mastermind turns out to be Black Widow, who might have the best line of the entire series when she tells her shocked boyfriend Tony Stark that he shouldn’t be surprised that his “Russian spy†girlfriend is the traitor.Prior to the Black Widow reveal, Millar and Hitch deliver an excruciating sequence where the reader sees one of Hawkeye’s kids running in terror from the masked murderers who have entered the house and Clint’s wife. As the child runs into his father’s arms, the main assassin (later revealed to be Black Widow) shoots the little one and murders him.Having such a graphic death of anyone – let alone a child – take place in Avengers: Age of Ultron would instantly give the movie a “mature†rating, a major “no no†for a studio hoping to break a billion dollars with its summer blockbuster. Besides, an actress as popular as Scarlet Johanson would never agree to portray a cold-blooded child killer in a comic book movie. http://whatculture.com/film/avengers-age-ultron-10-outrageous-comic-moments-wont-used.php/6 Also I had no idea that Black Widow and Iron man made a sex tape. I'm just surprised. A number of comic book storylines over the years have referred to there being some sexual chemistry between Tony Stark, aka, Iron Man, and Natasha Romanova, aka, Black Widow, but in the Ultimate Universe, Mark Millar went ahead and actually paired the two off – until Natasha betrayed the group and was killed by Hawkeye as revenge for murdering his family (see No. 6 on the list). Still, up until that point, these two consenting adults were clearly engaged in a romantic and physical relationship, but any actual sexual intercourse was just implied, not explicitly shown. That changed during the opening chapter of Jeph Loeb and Joe Madureira’s Ultimates 3 series, when reader sees Tony and Natasha getting it on as part of a sex tape that has been released to the media. While one could argue that comics stopped being marketed to children years ago, it is still a bit of a shock to see such mature content so unashamedly put out there as part of a superhero series. The same could be said for these movies: they might be rated PG-13, but there’s no chance they would ever feature such mature, adult content as a sex tape involving two of the main characters since a fair number of children are still part of the film’s core audience. All in all, I'm pretty shocked. Never knew her to be this wild. Edited March 9, 2015 by Jupiter Knight Quote
Matt Bellamy Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Well, this was from the Ultimates Universe, and not the main (616 universe). Everyone in that universe was a much more extreme version of themselves. Stark and Black Widow actually got engaged, (he paid thousand of people from her home country to form out the letters for "Will you marry me?" so she could see it from the sky) but she only really wanted his money and possibly access to his tech ( he did make her a suit of armor). While the Cinematic universe does borrow some design from the Ultimates universe ( ie the Ultimates Nick Fury having used Sam Jackson as a model for his design, is the reason why Sam Jackson is Nick Fury in the cinematic universe), they did not use the much darker tone of all the characters. Her betrayal of Hawkeye certainly was shocking, but he thankfully got his revenge by putting an arrow in her head. I stopped reading the Ultimates after they changed the writers and artist... but they really played with the characters... Captain America - used guns in the past ( similar to his movie version), and is a really brutal combat specialist. Breaking bones and limbs for sure, but would not be shaken at all if he killed an opponent. Iron Man - His whole body is his brain, and he drinks all the time to dull the pain. Also has a brain tumor., so him joining the Ultimates is kind of like a death wish for him. Much like Cap, they gave him a different edge... but not all THAT different. Thor - A hippyish thunder god, who people couldn't decide if he was delusional or not ( the whole second story arc was Loki making everyone BELIEVE he really was). Turns out, he really is the God of Thunder. Hawkeye - Seemed like a normal dude with a bow... until he was captured and removed his own fingernails to use as projectiles to kill his captors. Black Widow - Biologically enhanced Russian assassin. Traitor, and a bitch. Hulk/Banner - the Hulk speaks a lot more... but only like a dumb bruiser would. Banner was constantly looked down upon by most everyone and is very nerdy. His Hulk transformation was triggered by the "Super Soldier serum" that he was trying to create. Near the end of Volume 2 though, he was under a bit more control of the hulk. Enough to focus the hulk on who to smash at least. Hank Pym/Giant Man - Wife beater with anger issues. Still a genius who created the particle ability to grow, shrink, and control ants. Then he used the ants to attack his wife. Cap beat the crap out of him for it ( even while he was giant) Janet van Dyne/Wasp - Actually a mutant if I remember correctly, but publicly was "created" by Hank Pym (since Mutants are still hated here too). And apparently had a few insect tendencies ( like molting if I remember correctly). Dated Cap for a while after Hank used the ants on her. Scarlet Witch - her power was refereed to as `Adjusting Possibilities`. She could make low percentage chance of something happening, become much higher ( like say an entire army of Asgardian warriors and Thor returning to fight Loki). Quicksilver - Really. Really. REALLY deadly fast. Much faster than normal comics quicksilver is said to be. Used the friction from his speed to liquidate another "speedster" So yeah. Definitely different. Quote
Salkafar Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 The first two volumes of 'Ultimates' were so good. Ooh. Real shame about what happened after that. 'Ultimatum' is regarded as one of the worst comics of all time. And now it's all going to end, anyway... Quote
durendal Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Well, that's Mark Millar for you. He's really good at shocking his readers. Which is why I like most of his works. Quote
Salkafar Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Well, I sort of perceived his 'Ultimates' stuff as the live-action version of the cartoon version of the original Marvel stories. In fact, wasn't that the point of the Ultimate universe? But it all got ruined, mainly by Jeph Loeb. Quote
