*ScottmanXIII Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 It is a tricky matter, The site itself should have a disclaimer in general and an additional pop up could be added to any threads in the 'adult section' Facebook has the option to click on a post then select 'I don't want to see this' which removes it from the individuals visible newsfeed, could that be an option for somebody reading then thinking its not fot me? BTW - I know nothing about programming. I'm a school teacher by day and often preach about children being exposed to certain parts of the internet at a young age but when I reflect I also consider I saw 18 films in my early teens regardless of my parents efforts but I was raised right by my folks to know right from wrong and turned out fine. At the end of the day its not for us to police, responsibility should fall to the parents. A disclaimer is the most we can really do 2 Quote
durendal Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 No matter how much safeguards you put to protect certain contents, as long as there is a strong will to get it, they always find a way. Even if you require to authenticate the age, they can easily fake this. I would suggest to put these "controversial" images on a separate board which can still be accessed from this site. However, before proceeding to the inside, a disclaimer should be put with the user agreeing that he/she is already 18 of age. At least that would satisfy the legal obligation of the site. With regards to the maturity of the contents of Guyver itself, do remember that Japanese culture have a different perspective on censorship. The news reports violence but we don't see them reporting fornication. As for my stand on this matter, I prefer not to be part of it. 1 Quote
*Chernaudi Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 The problem is policing it. Unless someone volunteers to administer that aspect of it, we're left with systems with loopholes in them. Besides, we do have to face reality here--how many people still sneak into R-rated movies? Probably quite a few. How many people who are underage still look at porn or bloody violence in any media, let alone online? This stuff isn't 100% preventable, no matter the system. Hell, how many of us watched Guyver (be it the OVA or TV series) under the age of 13, which is my minimum for where I wouldn't question it so much if people watch it? Probably a lot of us, me included (in my case, the OVA). No system is fool proof, or persistence proof in this case. Maybe a separate area of the of the forum dedicated to "adult oriented" materials is the best we can do if the staff members want to go that way. As I've said, it's not like Guyver or other Japanese media is "innocent" when it comes to violence or nudity--and just to point it out, there's quite a bit of male nudity compared to female nudity, though in either case, it's rarely if ever overtly sexual. *Jess♥ Posted May 5, 2014 Author Posted May 5, 2014 I think at this point, we've got a good idea where everyone is. What I need to do now is to consult with the other staff members. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted May 10, 2014 Author Posted May 10, 2014 The decision was made to place a subforum in the guyver forum to display more exotic material. The idea of requiring some form of verification is a good idea but has too many drawbacks. first, there are plenty of youngsters who can get their parents credit card details anyway. second, some people would be too embarrassed to 'apply'. A subforum was decided to keep everything in one place. whilst it does appear like a bit of a club inviting people in, it also gives people a clear place to avoid if they should wish to. Clear disclaimers and guidelines have been placed. there is a support thread posted in the subforum for any questions and concerns. I have posted some initial images to give people an idea of how to go about it. 1 Quote

*Jess♥ Posted May 10, 2014 Author Posted May 10, 2014 OK no problem. In light of your concerns, I have added an additional layer of protection to act as an 'opt-in' system. If a member does not type in the password 'adult' then they will be unable to view the topics. in this way, the topics will not randomly appear unless a person specifically chooses to view that material.
