This is a revival of Yuki's "What do you eat?" thread, and is for food discussion.  Likes/dislikes, what we ate today, things we want to try, stuff like that.

For me, so far today, I had a chicken salad and french fries, and that's basically it.  I do also have to admit an addiction to French and Italian bread.

So, post away and don't make each other too hungry, or un-hungry, whatever the case may be ;)

recently I've been switching to more vegetarian food. It is mainly because i don't like teh way hte animals are treated in a lot of places.

I'm not literally agains the idea of eating dead animals. I would be perfectly happy to eat Game if it weren't so expensive. And i am perfectly happy with fish. I would just prefer not to eat meat from animals that are intensively reared.

so anyway

, I got some really nice meat free burgrs. they are from tesco and the flavour and texture is really nice.

I also like to make rice a lot. I found that it is really easy to make in hte microwave in a plastic container. same amount of water as doing it in a pan, just cook for 25 minutes full power. lid on hte container is best.

I got lots more to say but it's late. ^_^

Rice is one of the easiest meals to make.  If you think you made too much, don't fear.  On your next meal, just add some eggs (scrambled), carrots, peas, and if you prefer some bits and pieces of meat (we usually put diced hot dogs or sausage), fry them together (with a little bit of oil) and add a pinch of salt, and you have just created a genuine Yang Chow fried rice.  The most important part about this dish is that it is necessary for the rice to be left overs, as that is the main essence of fried rice.  And you only need 5 to 10 minutes to cook this.

I often take taco kits and make chicken filling per the directions, but then I break the shells up and make like a chicken taco salad/nacho thing with it.  Easier to deal with than trying to fill taco shells and hope that everything stays in while you eat them!

Not exactly food per se, but I also enjoy various drink mixes.  Such as tea, citrus stuff and grape stuff, mostly Crystal Light type stuff.  I also like Coke Zero (tastes almost like regular Coke) and Mr. Pibb, which I think is Coke's version of Dr. Pepper.

I also have a couple of loafs of Italian bread, and some butter and I'll be waiting until later today or tomorrow to get my sandwich maker stuff.

I'm especially fond of making fresh tuna sauce for sandwich filling.

homemade tuna sandwiches are a thousand times better than store bought. easy too. to be honest, the store bought ones taste like utter crap.

I'll give you my recipe. try it. you'll love it.

small tin of tuna, hand full of sweetcorn, teaspoon of curry powder ( I prefer tandoori mix), 2 tablespoon of sweet soy sauce, a third of a tub of cream cheese.

the measurements are approximate of course.

by the way durendal, I have always heard that it is dangerous to use rice leftovers. it has a dangerous bacteria that cannot be destroyed by heat. obviously you aren't dead so what do you know that I don't?

I think that information is greatly exaggerated.  Unless you leave it in room temperature for long periods of time, which any food will spoil and give you food poisoning.  Always store food properly and best if kept refrigerated.  The bacteria you are talking about are usually the result of improper storage of rice, usually when left in room temperature after long periods of time, similar to how molds grow in bread.  Besides, you will know that the rice is spoiled when it releases a certain odor.  What we usually do is cook rice in the evening, and if we weren't able to finish it, we refrigerate it and cook is as fried rice the next day for lunch.

As for tuna spread, we have a different recipe.  It involves mayonaise and tuna chunks only.  Tuna chunks can be substituted for shredded Chicken meat.  Add some salt and pepper for flavoring.  Add a layer of fine lettuce in a bread and you have a nice chicken or tuna sandwich.

yeah that recipe is the standard tuna mayo spread. I developed my recipe from that. I wanted something that was easier to store and more healthy, being a good source of minerals with lower fat and higher protein etc.

here is a comparison if you want to check it -

the standard store bought tuna mayo here is pretty much what you said. I did make it like that for a while and it was nicer than the store bought but of course mayo is just oil, vinegar and egg. by the way, you could possibly use tofu to make it too. very healthy choice!

oh thanks for the info about rice, that does make sense and I guess I was just being dense. ^^;

I'll be sure to try that recipe some day!

Sorry Yuki, not much of one for seafood.  My tastes there are pretty boring.  I usually eat some ready made fish fillets that you have to put in the oven to cook--they're made from raw talpia.  I also liked some salmon stuff that came in a similar state that had to be cooked from raw in a sauce.

I'm more of a meat person, mostly chicken, turkey, pork and beef roasts/steaks.  Thanksgiving and Christmas are two of my favorite days of the year because of that.  I like making fried chicken from scratch as well as baked pork chops with a coating on them.  However, until about a year ago, I never really ate hamburgers or ground beef tacos.  Now, I can't get enough of the stuff to a degree.

Dumplings.  And I'm still proud to say that that chives dumplings I make is still the best one I have ever tasted so far.  Even friends have been bugging me to make it.  I actually made a business out of it but had to stop when a large conglomerate asked me to work for them.  I was selling them for $2.5 for 10 pcs and profits are actually pretty decent, but it was way too time consuming to make it.

This is going to be my last post for a while--I'll be back on later tonight if I have my way, not really feeling too great right now--but I'll say this:  Herr's Deep Dish Pizza cheese curls are awesome!

whilst boilling up some spirali pasta,

cut chiken breast into little bite size chunks and fry in a lightly oiled(extra virgin olive oil) pan. add some crushed garlic, chopped onion, pinch of basil and oregano.

once chiken cooked, added a chopped tomato and the pasta into the pan, black pepper and salt for seasoning and stirred through spoon full of tomato paste and zigzag of sweet chilli sauce.

continued sturring until skin falls off chopped tomato and served. tasted delicious. perfect villiage peasant food, as i call it.

that sounds delicious guyverfan! I'll have to try that recipe. I don't generally cook pasta but that does sound good.

it is, cook it up all the time cause its quick&easy and tastes great.

sometimes i mix it up alittle by adding some sliced hungarian salami or chopped ham/bacon pieces in with the chiken

and during the last stir i'll add some pitted&halfed kalamata olives and crumbled fetta cheese.

I'll be making some chicken taco salad/nacho stuff tonight for the F1 race.  Pretty good and simple to make, though a bit time consuming if you make it with raw chicken breasts.

For me, it'll probably be a beef and gravy sandwich topper and I did get some new coffee creamers today.  One is chocolate/caramel, and the other is Heath bar toffee flavored.
